I stopped by the Blackthorn Pub for lunch today. The beer list as well as the bartenders knowledge of beer was pretty good. I ordered the fish and chips. The flavor was there, but so was the grease. And as for the "great" cole slaw, I found it colorful but lacking flavor and seasoning. All is not lost as I will give it another try in the future. read more

Seen great reviews about the restaurant, decided to try it for a date night and will be going back. The wait was not as long as I imagined it would be and the service was awesome (the server recommended a very nice beer) I had the vegan steak while my husband had the breakfast burger- my husband said hands down best burger he's ever had, and I had no complaints on my entree. Love their rotating tap and tap takeovers. They also have a very large selection of bottled beer to keep the snobbest of beer snobs happy. The staff here is also excellent. I prefer the appetizers to the rest of the menu. Ruben fritters, Irish nachos and the pretzels with cheese are my personal favorites. Great for kids and beer lovers alike. If you're traveling through Holly or live locally it's worth a try. read more

The environment is great. Small pub feel. The staff is GREAT!!!! Love Meagan the bartender! (only one bartender tends to be less than friendly and I have not seen her in a while). As for the food.....over all the menu does not have items I really care for. Some of the items I get are great, and other times not so good - must be differences in the cook? (sometimes over cooked) They have weekly specials and hit them out of the park occasionally. The side salad (vs. fries), needs "extras"-tomato, cucumber, something. The home made dressings are very good! If you are a beer connoisseur - then this is your place!! I love the atmosphere and the people, so I frequent there anyway. read more

Service is good. Food is really good. Fish and Chips were really good. Shepherd's pie is delicious, but I wish the portion were slightly larger. Beer is always fresh. My one bit of advice is don't sit by the door in the winter, every time it opens you get a refreshing blast of cold air. read more

This is one of our favorite places for good draft beer and the best fish in town but this visit was terrible, the only draft beer they have are IPA's and not all people including myself drink IPA's, I can stay home and drink bottle beer. I'm not going back!!! read more

I just moved into the area, and this was the first place I went to eat... and I/ we have been back time and time again! LOVE the beer selection (a bit pricey for some of them, but a good selection nonetheless). The food has been wonderful every time (the only thing I wasn't a HUGE fan of was this beer cheese with pretzels. I thought it would be hot cheese with soft pretzels, but it was cold beer cheese dip (kind of grainy) with hard pretzel rods... just won't order it again lol)... Their bartenders definitely know how to make a good drink, and the wait staff is knowledgeable when it comes to the beer selection :)... I would recommend the Breakfast Burger and the BLT ( a half pound of thick cut bacon on that baby!!!!) A great place to try out in the small and quaint town of Holly, MI! As far as the review for the salad.. I am not sure if that's how they used to serve it, but the side salads now are very delish! Keep it up Blackthorn! read more

First time here. Waitress was good. Beer and cocktail selections were good. Ordered the special Pot Roast dinner, just ok. My fries that came with the meal were so burnt they did not even look like a fry and never should have been served. My wife had the NC Melt sandwich that had pulled pork and that was very good. We will give it a try again, but hope they correct the issues. read more

We were in Holly for the first time in several years and decided to stop in for lunch. Several large groups were in the restaurant, so we had a bit of a wait to be seated. We took the time to admire the decor including the lovely brick wall and the interesting bar. The two waitresses were obviously rushed, but they got tables bused and got us seated as soon as they could. We each ordered sandwiches with green salads. My sister ordered a blue burger and I ordered the beet baguette. Both were more interesting and flavorful than we even expected. The whole experience was well worth the drive. read more

This place was great and the staff was too. Our waitress went over their extensive beer selection and even gave us free appetizers (Reuben Fritters). I got the fish sammich and my friend got the fish dinner. It was really good and I liked the ambiance of the room. It wasn't huge but it was comfortable. A bit noisy and a bit drafty from the door opening all of the time, but that was just a minor inconvenience. I'd for sure come back here again. Cheers! read more

My husband and I used Blackthorn for our small October wedding reception. My husband is from Ireland and wanted to have a proper Irish wedding reception where you just go to the pub with your close friends and family. It was the perfect place for such an occasion. The exposed brick walls were so beautiful that we really didn't need to decorate much. The food was fantastic and all of our guests had a wonderful time. The wait staff were very kind and attentive. Also, we asked for them to play a song as we walked into the pub and they made it happen for us. Oh! And they also wrote a wedding announcement on their sidewalk sign! The food is a little higher class than anywhere else you can find in town and the beer selections are never boring. Pricing is dead on with what I would expect it to be. I love how there are regular tap takeover events going on here because it allows me to try stuff I normally wouldn't from a store. The noise level is a little taxing here, mainly due to the high ceiling and brick walls. Some sort of buffer would make it a little easier to handle from a noise anxiety perspective. But the food, beer, staff and service are all great! I'd recommend stopping in during their next event and getting a beer sampler! read more

If standing for 20 minutes waiting to be noticed is your thing, then you've found your new favorite place. My husband and I walked in today and stood there for 20 solid minutes while waitress' just walked by us as if we were invisible. Not one staff member came up to us to ask "how many". People were leaving and their tables were NEVER cleaned off and more people joined us in line also waiting for a table. My husband finally walked to the back of the restaurant and asked if anyone was going to clean the tables so we could be seated because we've been completely ignored up front waiting and her response was "I have no idea". So we along with our new friends in line, all left and went a few doors down and dined at the Avia Restaurant where they took excellent care of us and we all enjoyed our food. The owner even went from table to table to check on his patrons. Blackthorn lost several families today while dirty tables not bussed just sat there empty. Guess they don't need the business. read more
