We were excited to see a new Shanghai-style restaurant open in Oceanside and wanted to give it a try. Service: 5 Stars The service was easily the highlight of our visit. The hostess was attentive, professional, and genuinely kind throughout the meal. She handled a few issues with our order gracefully, communicated with the kitchen, and even arranged refunds for the dishes that weren't prepared correctly. Her manners and customer service stood out--she consistently thanked guests and made us feel welcomed. Food: 1 Star This was the difficult part of the review because we really wanted to enjoy the food. The Shanghai fried buns ($15.99 for 6 pieces) arrived looking fully cooked, but when we bit into them, they were undercooked inside and had to be sent back. The wontons in my wonton noodle soup ($18.99) were undercooked, so this was disappointing as well.. The Dan Dan noodles ($16.99) had thick, spaghetti-like noodles made the dish feel overly heavy and filling. A thinner egg noodle would better complement the flavors and create a more authentic texture. I was excited to try the braised beef noodle soup ($17.99) the most, but unfortunately it lacked depth and flavor. The noodles were the same spaghetti like ones, which made the dish overly filling. The braised beef had good texture but lacked flavor. On a positive note, it was served hot, which I appreciated, especially compared to the wonton soup. The current noodles reminded me more of the pasta served on a kids' plate than what I'd expect from traditional Shanghai noodle dishes. Utensils This felt like an oversight. All of our dine-in utensils were disposable--to-go flatware, sauce packets, and a plastic soup spoon for noodle soup. I'd strongly encourage the restaurant to invest in proper dine-in utensils, especially real soup spoons for soup-based dishes. Despite the food issues, the staff handled everything professionally. The restaurant refunded the undercooked dishes and remade them without hesitation, which we appreciated. The service team genuinely cares about the customer experience, and that left a positive impression. We'll give them some time to work through the soft opening and plan to return in a few months. The service gives us confidence that they're committed to improving, and we're hopeful the food will catch up.

Excited to welcome authentic Chinese/Shanghai food to North County! Please give grace as their "Soft Opening" started on May 18, 2026. They are in a work in progress as they maneuver through obstacles and learn lessons from their customers. Blade Shanghai is known for their To-go orders and not a dine in restaurant. The entry door is easy to miss with a tiny Blade Shanghai sign. Luckily there was a manual written sign on the sidewalk. When I walked inside, I was greeted by a computer ordering kiosk and five tables for dine in. Gender neutral restroom is available. It is very clean. We met the owner, a lovely lady Donia, who was very nice and allowed our dog to dine with us inside. There is no outdoor patio. You have a clear view of the commercial kitchen and their amazing noodle machine that makes Dan Dan Noodles in minutes! I wanted to try everything! We finally ordered Shrimp and Pork Wonton Noodles, Pork Sheng Jian Bao, Dan Dan Noodles, and cucumbers. My favorites were the Dan Dan and Pork Bao. Albeit the dishes were very expensive than expected, the food tasted authentic and very well seasoned. The food and portion sizes were not as pictured to the visuals when ordered. The cucumber instead of chunky smashed pieces, were brought out thinly sliced. The Wontons were small and noodles were mushy. My opinion Blade Shanghai is a great addition to North County! Soft Openings are there when restaurants want feedback and comments to make improvements. Please try and you'll enjoy authentic dishes. The homemade hot sauce is so flavorful. Must try! If you dine in, everything comes in To-go takeaway boxes and containers. There are no extra bowls or plates. Take away plastic spoons, forks and chopsticks are available. Thank you for a lovely memorable meal and we look forward to our next visit.

I was passing through downtown Oceanside and realized that we have a new Asian restaurant that has opened up. This is my quick review on Blade Shanghai, a Chinese-fusion diner that has opened up right next-door to the Italian restaurant Blade 1936. Blade Shanghai is a fusion establishment that focuses heavily on specialty Chinese dishes, and they are well known for their dumplings, Gyoza and especially their house-made noodles for their Ramen. They have a special dipping sauce that comes with the dumplings and it is packed with garlic-soy-chili flavors and is much more like a flavorful blend that can be added to any dish to punch-up the flavor. The interior is extremely small though, and there's only 4 tables that allows for minimal seating. The decorations were very elegant, and the wallpaper was very intricate. The service was very friendly and attentive, and they let us know that we can either sit down and eat or place our orders to-go. Their bathroom was exquisite and very fancy. They have a fully functioning bidet with touchless, trash and dispensers. How many had a few dishes and I need to come back to get a full scope of their menu. But I really enjoyed the broth for the Ramen and I can appreciate their individual set up for takeout orders that allows the compartmentalization of each ingredient. I know that they have a lot of room for growth, and I look forward to seeing their online presence, as well as social media integration with their menu. I'm sure that many will use their online features to order their food Takeout, as this establishment does come across as an "elevated dine-out experience". Overall, I do recommend Blade Shanghai, and I believe that the Downtown Oceanside area benefits from this Chinese fusion restaurant.

The black pepper beef with peppers is also super tasty but it's a hit or miss because sometimes the meat is super tender but other times it's tough and chewy so I stopped getting it as often. The flavor is amazing though. Another thing to try is the spicy sesame wonton it tastes like normal spicy wontons but mixed with like thai peanut sauce dip which is a unique combo but it works. It is a small chain with locations around SoCal. This was our first time here. We ordered: * 1 Large Asahi Bottle Beer ($10.99) * Shanghai Pan-Fried Soup Dumplings ($10.50) * Combination Fried Rice ($15.99) * Shanghai Style Chow Mein ($14.99) * Tasty Dry Pot with Lamb ($20.99) For me, the star was the Dry Pot, wow! This is similar to your typical hot pot but this has no broth. It was already slightly warm inside so a hot soup would have had us sweating. We chose dry and it was unbelievably good. Definitely getting this again. The Fried Rice and Shanghai Chow Mein fried noodles were excellent as well. Not huge plates but we managed to split it four ways. In fact all of the dishes we ordered family style so we could all share. They did not have your typical "combo" entrees that had sides of soup or rice. Here you order one big plate of fried rice, one big plate of noodles, and so on...and SHARE. We were getting full when the Shanghai Fried Soup Dumplings came out. Wow they were huge! Biggest soup dumplings I have ever seen (maybe I don't get out much?)...seriously the size of an orange. My wife and I split one large bottle of beer. They gave us two frosted glasses and the bottle split evenly. Perfect! Ice waters were really tasty too (I never comment on water but here I am). Service was excellent. In the end, we paid the bill using the handheld POS terminal. I asked for an itemized receipt and it printed it all in Chinese! Luckily ChatGPT helped me translate and the bill looked correct. We will most definitely come back. This food has excellent flavors, good pricing and good service. Win, win, win.

As noted by its name, this place served a fusion of Chinese and Korean cuisines. Their Encinitas location took over what used to be a roadside diner along N Coast Hwy 101. The seating capacity was less than 40 people which included a few high-top counter spots. At my last visit, I came for a late dinner before their closing time. A large menu was posted on the wall behind the service counter that listed about two dozen food offerings. The items seemed to be comfort food like pot stickers, spring rolls, fried rice, and chicken wings but flavored with unique combinations of seasonings and spices. I started my meal with the Marinated Beef Tri-Tip Skewers which came as a set of three and a Chinese mustard for dipping. The meat was very tender and well-seasoned. I also ordered the Cumin Lamb Stir Fry which the cashier said was medium spicy. After tasting a couple of bites of the noodles from the serving bowl, I agreed that the heat level was moderate, even for my palate. I thought the portion size should have been more for the price. That was my main criticism for both items, otherwise the food was solid for an Asian fusion eatery.
