Let me preface by saying, I think it's the barista, NOT the coffee shop. Ordered the Blak Girl Magic iced. Only it wasn't cold and she told me they make it with oat milk and up charged me .50c. LOL! If you make it with oat milk there shouldn't be an extra charge unless I ask for an upgrade. At 20oz I had to add a third shot which industry-wise is appropriate for the size. It's clear she made the coffee hot and put ice on top. It's not cold at all. Oat milk has a very distinct flavor and the one used here isn't made for coffee. It's too watery. Idk what happened here but the lady w/the nose ring that made the drinks is NOT a barista or coffee professional; she just works there. I hate to say it but I definitely wasted $18.02 here. Coffee is too expensive to get it incorrect. I wouldn't return. read more

When I visited recently, a few local artisans were set up around the coffeeshop through its regular Black Business Pop-Ups. And the owner was quick to greet everyone who walked in, welcoming them to the space. The cafe's motto is "Where Coffee, Culture, & Business Meet" -- and this definitely comes across. This also seems like a great coffeeshop to come to if you need to work on your laptop or talk with people -- not easy for a cafe to nail both of these vibes well. The second I walked into Blak Koffee, I was greeted by the owner, the warm sounds of content chatter, and the hustle and bustle of a cozy cafe. The menu looked fantastic, and for coffee, I went with one of their signature drinks--the Black Girl Magic, a honey lavender latte. Lavender can be tricky to get right, but this was beautifully balanced and hit just right. Took my first sip and broke into a lil happy dance. For lunch, I got the buffalo chicken wrap, and my friend went with the fried bologna sandwich. Both were flavorful, and satisfying, but not so heavy that you needed a nap afterward--just perfect light lunch fare. My wrap had the right kick of spice, and I absolutely demolished it. Our barista/server had amazing energy, and the owner took a moment to chat with us about ways they're working to involve the community, which made me love the place even more. This is officially my go-to cafe for lunch meetings. What an awesome spot. read more

I'm not usually a coffee person, but their Black Girl Magic drink (made with oat milk and dairy-free whip) was worth every bit of caffeine and calories. They offer plenty of real food options too, not just pastries, which makes it easy to stay awhile. The only con is the tea selection -- it's decent but nothing special. Run don't walk!!! This place is such a lovely spot with amazing coffee! I tried the fried chicken sandwich, it was delicious. The buns were toasted and it came with the lettuce, tomato and cheese. For coffee, I got the blak boy joy. I got it iced with almond milk! And wowwwww. It's reminds me a lot of the *good tastes* from a Starbucks Carmel frappe. But it's even better because it's a local spot instead! It is definitely on the sweet side but very worth it. The service was great, I am generally slow to pick out what I want but the lady at the counter was patient with me. They bring your food out when it's ready. It was a nice mix of younger college aged kids and business professionals here, I love that all ages feel comfortable gathering. I was in the area and I had the chance to drop by. The space is a nice size which is if you are looking for a work space this would fit perfectly knowing you are not so close to someone at another table. There is a variety of seating options from tables w/ chairs and couches. I believe they rent out the space for private events so that is a plus! The menu consisted of coffee, (of course), tea, smoothies, and select food items. They offer muffins, cinnamon rolls and snacks like chips. I believe there is a food menu with other items but I didn't see it around. I ordered the "all that" smoothie and banana nut muffin to go. I didn't have to wait long to receive my drink and muffin. Understanding that it is a coffee shop and they do not specialize in smoothies just note that the smoothies are from a premade juice and there is no fresh fruit included. The muffin was just okay. I prob will not ordered it again. Overall my experience was good. I liked that they have a parking lot and not street parking. They take cashapp and Venmo along with cash and credit card. They also offer milk alternatives such as almond milk and oatmilk (and more) which is perfect since I can not intake dairy, the smoothie did not have dairy as well. I would definitely go back to try the coffee. I am currently in a caffeine break so was not able to this time around. read more

The ambience is so friendly and welcoming, and super quaint and inviting. The coffee was delicious. Their bakery items they provided our party was also delicious. They also gave other meal options I'll have to try. The best part is the owners and staff. Some of the most loving, caring, passionate folks I've met. If you are looking for a friendly, welcoming and warm place to relax, get some work done, or have an informal meeting, this is the place. Everyone was welcomed as they walked in. They have a large tea selection, which I appreciated since I am a fruit tea drinker. They also offer a menu of food items from the traditional café pastries to a menu of items that could be cooked. You could get a full meal here. There is parking on the street and there's also a small parking lot in the back of the building. Instead of relying on the old, reliable coffee shops, this one is definitely near the top of my list. The atmosphere, the service, and the products were exceptional. read more

Update: I was able to grind the beans I bought here and they were fantastic, possibly my favorite Ethiopian roast I've had and definitely top 5 I've ever had. I am not sure if they are roasting beans themselves or going through a 3rd party but spot on. I may not be able to get a bag every time I run out but this will definitely not be a one time purchase. See the rest of my review as well. I ate lunch here for the first time. The atmosphere was great, the owner was friendly and introduced himself to every new face (of which I was one). The staff were all very friendly and willing to engage in conversation. I had the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant and a mocha. The mocha was good but the sandwich was truly excellent. First off, I've had a lot of chicken salad sandwiches at places claiming that was their specialty. This was the best chicken salad sandwich I've had in quite a long time. My experience with most places is that the chicken salad is too sweet or not sweet enough and often tastes like it was made up as a huge batch and then refrigerated. They tend to taste pasty or be thick & difficult to eat. On top of this any that offer it on a croissant, they tend to be dry and the croissant tastes like it was probably just bought from some generic supplier and they are more chewy than flaky. The croissant on this sandwich was perfect, warm and soft. It was flaky and had a a slight sweetness that blended perfectly with the chicken salad. The mocha was good but not amazing. Among the mocha's I have had all over Louisville I rate it above average and certainly it was better than 2 of the more popular coffee brands people go to, Starbucks and Heine Brothers. It's definitely a drink I would buy again but I felt the price tag was a little steep for the result. I also bought a bag of the coffee, which is at the high end price wise of coffees I've bought. Don't know if it's worth it yet but even if it's really good I don't know that I can justify the price on a regular basis. Overall all this is not a coffee shop but truly a cafe. I say that because I think many people will read the name and assume it's a coffee shop but it has far less coffee selection than a true coffee shop and far more food options than a coffee shop would. They aren't saying it's a coffee shop, I just think it helps to know that it's truly a cafe with some truly great food. I would definitely recommend this place. My only true disappointment is that they aren't open Saturday, would have loved to bring my wife here for Saturday breakfast. It's also a shame they aren't closer to where I live but I hope they thrive and eventually open a location closer to me. We need some more good cafes, all the new ones we've had open near us recently were a letdown in the way of food. I look forward to trying other options at the Blak Koffee Cafe. read more

I placed an online ordered for pick up I ordered a 1/2 chef salad wth french dressing and a fried chicken breast. everything was perfect and delicious. While there picking up my order once inside I experienced a very comfortable, clean, friendly enviroment including the seating area and restrooms and as this is close enough for me to walk to from my place of employment i will revisit this establishment again, excited to try a different menu item on my next visit. This trip took us through Louisville, Kentucky and there we found one of the best coffee shops in the country.....BLAK KOFFEE. This place is amazing with a welcoming vibe of warmth, love, kindness, and inclusivity. The coffee is rich, robust and flavorful. They have a great menu and the food is delicious. Now for the cherry on top of the sundae.... the EXCELLENT SERVICE. There are not enough words to describe how superb the service is. Mr. Kevin a.k.a. "Mr. Blak Koffee" was so welcoming, attentive, and truly made us feel at home. It was such a great experience that we had to take something home so we bought enough coffee beans to last us severals months.
