Today was a quick stop and carry out for drip coffee. I was a bit disappointed in the cup. When my husband brought it to me, it was barely lukewarm. He walked my coffee back inside and requested they warm it, which they did, but I left curious how fresh it was. I'm glad to see this location of Ntaba continue. When I mention it to people, most are not aware of the business. It is quiet - other than driving by, I don't think I see much promotion of it. Today's experience won't cause me to rush back, but I'd stop by when I'm in the area. read more

This quaint coffee shop is located in the Cliffon Heights area. From the moment I, walked into the coffee shop I felt peace, warmth and hospitality from the owners of the establishment. The ambiance of the coffee shop is very laid-back,cozy, and beautifully decorated. They offer an array of options on their menu such as beverages, pastries, and food. I was extremely impressed because they offer vegan pastries, have ample parking, and are economical priced. Which are all WINS for me for frequently supporting a coffee shop. I absolutely ADORE everything about Ntaba, from its gorgeous colorful décor to its delicious coffees (their pistachio latte is my favorite), to its lovely owners--Dayana and Rueben---who are gracious beyond measure! Yes to Ntaba! Drinks - delicious. Menu - appropriately varied (something for everyone). Plant based milk options - almond, oat, soy. Food - both sweet and savory choices, including very flaky non-meat meat pies. Ambience - pleasant, welcoming, definitely invites one to sit and linger to enjoy coffee/snacks before heading back to reality. There is also a small international grocery section in the back with a variety of items that might be difficult to obtain at a regular grocery store. One limitation: they do charge extra for plant based milk; I understand there is a cost differential, however I am of the opinion people who either must or choose to avoid animal products should be able to enjoy their coffee for the same price as dairy lovers. read more

I WILL BE BACK! The owner makes me want to come back. After being there a couple of hours she still remembered my name when I left! I was impressed when she called me by name when I left the establishment. That's good customer service. The bonus was the coffee and the sausage roll, with a side of chutney, was so good. I've never tasted such smooth coffee in all of my coffee days. I was struggling with what to order but she gave great assistance, along with my friend, and I had the white chocolate caramel mocha latte, I think . It was so good! I should have got the 20oz. Well that just means I will be returning soon. Plus, the atmosphere was so cozy and conducive to working, with the various seating arrangements and the wifi. Great little out of the way (for me) place. Good drip and sausage roll. Touted as "south African", coffee and cuisine probably leans that way because the former owners run a safari business out of the place. Polite and aware staff. But I tried to take a work call since there were only 5 adults and toddlers appeared. Good spot if you just want good food and service but if you're looking for a quiet place to work or study, might try somewhere bigger or a branded place that is known for that. read more

Owner is spectacularly friendly and cheerful, welcoming to all. Lots of huge windows letting in a ton of sunlight, so a good spot if you need copious amounts of natural light, maybe not so good if you're looking for a dark cozy corner to curl up in. The pastry I had was very rich and tasty. Didn't care for my drink, but that's probably just because it just wasn't my cup of tea, so to speak. I came to this coffee shop to try something new since I drive past it all the time. I got a vanilla latte and an almond croissant. The coffee was good, but nothing particularly special, and the almond croissant was quite tasty despite not actually being on a croissant. It was definitely more of an almond pastry, but I really enjoyed it and the flavors were all there. My only qualm with Ntaba is the atmosphere was very quiet and stoic. I came in with my young child after seeing that they advertised having some fun classes in the evenings and the owners young children around thinking it would be a good environment for us to sit together, but there was no music playing, and it was deathly silent in there. We enjoyed our coffee on the picnic table outside because I was worried of disturbing the other patrons due to the silence. I'll probably be back for a to go coffee if I'm in this area again, but probably not to just hang out for the ambience. read more

I absolutely LOVED my visit to Ntaba. As a coffee snob, I found their coffee quite delightful. I also greatly appreciated that they gave me my iced latte in a glass mug when I asked them. A lot of places don't, but that is one of my requirements for the perfect coffee shop. Additionally, the staff were AMAZING! The owner made my drink, and she was so friendly! We chatted a bit, and when I left, I felt like I had made a new friend. The decorations are also so fun! The original owner was South African, so the inside has an African savanna theme. There are cool plants and a canvas of a lion. The new owner (the one who made my drink) kept the theme, and I absolutely love it. I definitely want to go back again. read more

This cool coffee shop has been on my list to try for a few months! I've driven by it on my way to Frankfort Ave. They've got their own parking lot and the space inside is a lot larger than I would've thought. Their menu has all the regular stuff you expect. You can create your own drinks since they sell everything as a base (eg. plain latte, in which you can add flavors). I ordered the 12oz latte with vanilla and oat milk. The espresso tastes light. It reminded me of another African-owned coffee shop in Columbus, which has similar flavors. It was good! My friend tried 5 roses as a tea latte with oat milk. The barista told us it's a lighter version of English breakfast. She enjoyed it and also liked my latte. It feels pretty calm in there. Lots of natural light comes in through the windows. My friend and I enjoyed sitting on the comfy chairs. The owner came out and talked to us, which was cool. It made the experience even more personal to see that he was there. It's cool that he is South African! You can get your drink in a mug which is awesome. They've got one gender neutral bathroom that has a changing table. I'd come back again. This coffee house left me with so much joy ... and delicious coffee! Ntaba Coffee Haus features fair-trade coffee and tea from Africa as well as pastries and meat pies, a South African dish. This coffee shop on Brownsboro Road also houses A Taste of Africa, which sells food from Africa, and Ntaba African Safaris, which helps travelers plan trips to Africa. There is so much love for Africa in this building. For my first visit, I started with coffee, which definitely hit the spot. And I bought a Bubbly chocolate bar, Turkish delight and Jelly Tots candies from A Taste of Africa to share with my friend. Come to find out, "aerated chocolate" is a South African delicacy, and A Taste of Africa has several bars to choose from. And looking at the packaging, we were expecting a crunchy, malted filling, but this chocolate was creaming, indulgent. I also got a chai tea latte from the coffeeshop. The barista warned me that this chai is different than others in that it's not quite as sweet. I'm glad she gave me a heads up, and I actually preferred this type of chai. It was warm, soothing and just sweet enough. I also got to meet the owner, Robin. After talking to him for just a few minutes, it's easy to see how much passion he has for his businesses and Africa. And if you meet him, be sure to ask him how he got to Kentucky -- the man has lived several lives! It was also nice to learn how Ntaba gives back to the community here and in Africa. For example, Ntaba takes part in the ZABRA: a free bra initiative. Guests are encouraged to donate new and slightly used bras, which are then given to women who need them in Africa. The owner takes them and delivers them to orphanages and organizations himself. I'm excited to go back to Ntaba and try the meat pies as well as some of the delicious tea. Ntaba brings something new to the coffee shop scene in Louisville, and I applaud it for that. read more

Visited on a Sunday morning around 10:30 for the first time. We had one person in front of us in line, however we waited 20 minutes after placing our order before getting our coffee. There was one employee working and they were more concerned with chatting with the group behind us than making our coffees. They even made one of the customers coffee before ours. Ntaba Coffee Haus is the best! They offer organic, fair trade, fresh roasted coffee, sourced from Africa. They roast the coffee in house, so it's always brewed to perfection. You can enjoy a fresh cup of coffee there, or you can purchase bags of coffee and tea to enjoy at home. They also have some really tasty food options on the menu, including baked goods and meat and vegetable pies. The Chicken Chorizo Pie is awesome! They support local artists by having pieces on display, and for sale, throughout the shop. They also sell handmade African mugs, as well as local honey from BEG's Honey, a small family-owned bee farm in South Louisville. Plus, they have an amazing "Taste of Africa" shop in the back of the space that's full of South African products. I love exploring everything there, and I have tried some of the candies and it was really cool to experience some items we can't get locally. Source of beans are known all the way to a specific farm and perfectly roasted locally. Bring your computer or a book with you and spend a few minutes hanging inside. Definitely one of my favorite coffee shops in town! We found it by accident and I'm so glad we did. My go-to coffee is the White Chocolate Latte, which surprisingly, at Ntaba, I can have without sugar (and I add sugar to everything haha)! I love that there is a little market in the back of the store with different African goodies; I always end up buying more things than I should. I think its really neat that the small paintings on the wall are available for purchase. If you are interested in going on an actual African Safari, there is also a travel office in the shop to help you plan it! read more

Excellent coffee and time spend. Choose a new spot of a study session. Got two ice coffee for me and the misses. Very strong, very good. Super friendly staff and the food was amazing. Wife got a cheddar chive scope, said it was very light and fluffy, can confirm full of flavor. I had a breakfast roll, very souffle like. Bacon, egg and cheese/chive. Super flakey. Had to eat with a fork. Coffee was so good, we got two more but espresso, which was ever better. Ended up buy a bag of the Gorilla Coffee whole beans for the house, for later use. Definitely coming back. In the back room had snacks from Africa. We saw the owner taking care outside with pulling weeds, you can tell this shop is cared for with the love put into it. read more

Two genuine and kind owners, husband and wife Robin and Stella Mountain, are so awesome with some true South African spirit that just pours out in their decor, their friendliness, and of course with that amazing African coffee. Their warm energy hits you on the first visit if you get the chance to meet them or chat. Bonus! They also run a Safari business that they'll guide you through back in their beautiful home of Africa. The best part is, they have a small grocery in the back of the coffee shop with nothing but South African goodies! PLEASE! Louisville's newest coffee shop is instantly in my top-three across the city (and I know *all* the coffee shops in town). It's a little smaller than most, but very comfortable, with higher-end furnishing, large windows, and attractive artwork. The menu is streamlined, with a small number of coffee/espresso drinks and pastries (update: they're now also offering South African meat pies), all done well. The only thing to be desired is longer hours. Curiously, they close at 6p on weekdays and 4p on weekends, so I'm only able to stop in half as often as I'd like. read more

Pleasantly surprised by this place! It's in an odd location in my opinion and was part of my thinking when i saw that the drive thru was completely open on a Wednesday morning. Anyways, I got the iced chai latte and a lamb meat pie. The pie was good especially considering how fast they make it. GUYS!!! Y'all already know that I loveee me some coffee. I'm always looking for a new place to try. Well, today was the day that found this little gem thanks to the other Yelpers. They use freshly ground African espresso that is soooo smooth, and its paired with perfectly steamed milk with microfoam that is at a drinkable temperature. I also got a "sausage roll". A delicious sausage link wrapped in a buttery flaky puff pastry crust, with a side of chutney. The sausage had a great flavor, crust was fantastic...and the chutney! I have had chutney in the past and it was extremely spicy...well this one wasn't. It was on the sweeter side, and delicious. The best part about it all was the little grocery store in the back. Filled with some really cool African spices, marinade, cookies, and other treats. I had gotten a cherry almond nougat that was wrapped in rice paper, and a "Turkish delight". The nougat wasn't fantastic...but that was because there wasn't enough sugar #Merica. The Turkish delight treat was WEIRD! It was like a rose flavored gelatin covered in milk chocolate. Im not a huge fan of rose, but this was ultimately good. I would love to try another one with a different flavor. read more

As a former Clifton Heights resident, seeing Ntaba thrive and expand warms my heart. The cafe itself is immaculate, spearheaded by the kind of owners who will recognize you on your second visit. The coffee is delicious and arguably the best in the city; this is one of the rare coffeehouses where I actually prefer the lighter roasts, because they're just so invigorating. I also recommend not overlooking the mini-store in the back, where you can browse a selection of African groceries and candies that would ordinarily be nigh-impossible to find in this area. 5 stars, no notes. Tried to order the freshpak tea (hot with oak milk) expecting to have steamed oat milk on top of my tea but received my tea watered down with cold oat milk in a cup with a lid that didn't fit. I was a confused customer that didn't understand the menu I admit but and when I asked it I could have my oat milk steamed first and she said no. My tea wasn't good for that reason and whenever I tried to sip it it poured all over my lap due to the misfit lid. I would also like to add that my friend that is lactose intolerant, ordered an almond milk latte and we watched her try and poor whole milk into her cup and had to stop her. She ordered it iced and she tried to make it hot which we had to correct as well. I am sure the coffee and products taste amazing but the barista was not delivering good service so that we could enjoy the drinks we ordered. read more

About two years ago, someone gifted me a bag of Ntaba's coffee and I loved it! Unfortunately neither location is super close to where I live or work so it took me quite a while to visit their shop but I made a special trip on a day off work and wish I could go more often. I ordered one of their Fall speciality drinks, the Bonfire Latte, which the barista took the time to describe to me and it was super yummy - I love a fancy coffee drink when I'm not the one making it! The shop is conveniently located at a stop light so turning from/onto busy Brownsboro is pretty easy and there is plenty of parking. The space is large enough but tables are situated a little closer together than perhaps I'd prefer. The vibe is very uniquely theirs, not just "generic coffee shop," which I appreciated.
