Cute little cafe in a beautiful room of the hotel
    Melissa D.

For what it is, this place is great. It's located inside the atrium that connects the two towers of the Galt House Hotel, so it's got a beautiful view that can't be beat. It's a little side cafe with counter ordering, and it's very clean. There are plenty of healthy options of salads, soups, smoothies, parfaits, etc. I got the chicken bacon ranch panini, and the chipotle mayo was delicious. It was cooked to perfection. It was reasonably priced too. The panini with a bottled drink and chips was $12. Service was kind and quick. I highly recommend this place.

The lines because it's the only choice.

This place seems to have no idea how to flex their staffing higher to accommodate a line of people needing a basic staple like coffee. There were 10 people in line in front of me at 8 am on a Saturday and easily 15 people behind me. Too bad Galt House can't get this righ

It's really easy to shrug off a deli/sandwich shop by saying, "It's just sandwiches, nothing special about that" like some reviews I've seen. I think those reviews miss the entire point of the neighborhood deli. I've been two days in a row this week. Once for myself, then again for my family after they heard me rave about the sandwiches and people here. Farrah (sp?) greeted me both days with a, "Hi honey! Be right with you!". You don't get a greeting like that very much anymore, and that same care and effort she put into greeting her customers is evident in the construction of the sandwiches too! I mean when was the last time a business - even local - asked your name before you left, unless it was to put on your coffee cup? We've had the club, the Brooklyn, and the veggie caprese and all of them are phenomenal. I don't think you could make a bad choice at The Block - you're gonna be happy and satisfied. Maybe it is "just a sandwich", and maybe I'm overhyping it because of the way the love they have for the customers and product comes through the entire experience....but even if I am, isn't that the entire point of your neighborhood deli?

The tarragon mayo gives it something different, but personally, I wasn't the biggest fan. Give me regular mayo and some crispy bacon and this would've really hit. Customer service was 10/10, though. There is a large menu board as you walk in the side door (the deli is located in the back of Dittos restaurant). They primary have soups salads and sandwiches and daily soup specials. You order at the counter, pay for your order, get your drink at the beverage area and have a seat. They will then bring your order to your table. We both opted for the pick two combo. I had a half ruben sandwich and a bowl of white chili. Both were excellent. A huge half sandwich and a large hearty bowl of white chili. The chili was flavorful but not spicy. It had lots of shredded chicken, beans and corn (which could have been left out in my opinion). My friend had the chicken salad sandwich and the white chili and said her sandwich was good, also a very large. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, parking on the side and in the back of the building. I had not been for years but it was a good choice for a late lunch.

We couldn't decide what to order, so we ended up trying a little bit of everything. The tabbouleh, hummus, falafel, and spinach pie were all fantastic. Every single side was fresh and packed with flavor. The sauces deserve their own shoutout. I would happily take home a gallon of the garlic sauce, and the tzatziki was just as addictive. My husband ordered the Mediterranean salad, and my daughter and I shared the kids' shawarma plate. The salad was massive with a beautiful variety of fresh vegetables. The beef shawarma was incredibly tender, and the basmati rice was perfectly cooked. One thing that really stood out to me was the hospitality. While we were there, a family came in just before closing and asked if they could still be served. Without hesitation, the staff welcomed them in and accommodated them with such kindness. It felt less like a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone's home. You can tell there's real care behind every ingredient and every interaction. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and homemade. It left us feeling satisfied without feeling heavy, which isn't always easy to find when eating out. It is on the louder side, so if you're looking for a quiet, intimate breakfast, this probably isn't that kind of place. But for a busy breakfast spot, the energy works. The prices are moderate and felt very reasonable for the atmosphere, portions, and overall experience. I ordered the biscuit and gravy with a side of bacon, and let me just say... these were NOT your average biscuits! I got two huge, fluffy biscuits with little cubes of sausage tucked in between them and everything was covered in pepper gravy. The biscuits were soft and delicious, the sausage added just the right amount of flavor, and the pepper gravy pulled it all together. So good! My husband decided to go big and ordered the breakfast plate with all the fixings PLUS a waffle. Naturally, I had to sample the waffle, and I'm pretty sure I made my decision for my next visit right then and there. That waffle was delicious! It had a subtle vanilla flavor that paired incredibly well with the maple syrup. That vanilla + maple combination was honestly my favorite bite of the meal. The portions are generous, the food is flavorful, and there's enough variety on the menu that everyone should be able to find something they'll enjoy. Between my biscuits and gravy and my husband's breakfast feast, we definitely left happy and full. The Cafe gets a big thumbs-up from us, and I'm already looking forward to going back -- especially for that waffle!
