I hired this company to do my hardwood floors in my living room and dining room to be done in parts. They came and sanded and did the floor in 2 days. Sanding it the first day and coloring it the second day. I was not satisfied with the end result because they didn't shellac the floor. I spoke with Mike who was rude and attempted to go up on the estimate by $500. They have yet to come and complete the service. read more

Outstanding quality work and excellent customer service. Blake refinished our 1934 floors and installed hardwood over concrete in two rooms a year ago. After about 9 months one of the floors over concrete came undone, started to raise up and created a large bump in the room. Michael Blake came out, looked it over, investigated and found out the the problem was with the glue used. It was not Blake's faults, as the glue vendor reported having the same problem in their showroom. This company does outstanding work, stands behind their installations and does beautiful refinishing and installations. Trust in them, a relative rarity these days. read more

We have used Blake floor co to refinish hardwood floors in a couple of homes that we rehabbed, and most recently had them refinish the floors in my moms 1956 ranch home. the floors in her home turned out absolutely gorgeous! You would never know those floors were 63 years old and that 5 kids were raised in that home! They look BRAND NEW! My only regret is that my mom is no longer with us to see how wonderful the floors look. As a Realtor, I recommend Blake floor company to anyone who ever asks me for someone to refinish floors. We used Blake Flooring in 2004 to refinish hardwood floors at a home we were rehabbing in the City. They did good work. We called Blake to request a bid to install new hardwood flooring at our current home in St. Louis County. We made an appointment to get a quote for the work. Blake came to our home as scheduled. We never received a quote. The estimator told us what Blake would not do as part of the job. The list included - others would have to move all the furniture in and out of the house, no new baseboards would be installed, all doors would have to be removed, we would have to move out of the house for 7 or 8 days etc. Businesses that cannot deliver a timely quote send a pretty good message to prospective customers - nothing they do will be timely - proceed at your own risk. read more

We have used Blake Flooring on four different house jobs in the last 10 years. All were homes with at least three rooms to be sanded and finished. Every time has been a great experience with them and our floors could not look any better! The last job finished in July 2012 had some areas where wood planks had to be replaced along with an area covering about 2ft x 3ft were there was no wood at all. They did an excellent job and you can't tell where the wood floor was missing. It blends right in. We would definately use them again in the future. read more

I wish I could review Blake Floor Co. on the work they've done, but they never bothered to show. I arranged for an estimate to have my floors refinished, with a few patches to be fixed. Also carpet, pad, and tack removal. A sweet, professional, knowledgable woman came to take measurements and get an estimate together. I show her some pet stains that worry me and she says it can disappear with darker stain. It's late March, and I tell her I'd like to have tenants move in by May 1. She says they're booked three weeks out, but can definitely finish the job by the end of April. Within a day or two I received the detailed estimate, with a contract for work. I signed it that same day and sent it back to her. I've just hired them. The next day, I get a call from Emil Blake, saying he just wants to have a look at the floors for himself before beginning. Thinking, "great, they're ready to begin!" I meet him at the house a day or two later. He looks at the floor with the stains and says it'd be best to tear out the floor and replace the stained planks. I told him that I'm aware the stains may never come out and I'd just like to proceed as planned. He tells me to leave a key outside so the workers can do my house on standby, which means they'll come when they get a few free hours to work on it a little until the real start date. I'm excited to begin. A few days go by and I see that nobody came. No big deal. I text Emil to tell him the house is ready and on standby. Then I get an email. It's a NEW estimate for about $2000 more, including tearing out flooring in an entire room, and a new contract. So I guess he didn't like that a contract for a lower bid was sent out and signed without his consent. I told him that I don't want him tearing out the old floor. It's a rental, and if the new stain doesn't cover the pet spots, I'll get an area rug. It's been about a week since the initial estimate, and I'm getting worried. To make everything go easier, I tear up the old carpet myself, I pull every tack and staple out by hand with pliers, pry off baseboards, remove the doors from hinges, tarp up doorways, remove window treatments. I make it as easy as possible for Blake to come in and just begin working. No carpet to deal with, nothing. Another week and a half go by, and nobody has worked on the house. I'm not super worried that they couldn't get to my house on standby, because I'm still slotted in for the third week of April. It'll be close, but it can get done. By the end of the second week of April, I call to confirm their start date. The receptionist tells me she'll try to reach one of the bosses and call me back, but I never get my call returned. I made it clear that tenants will be moving in in ten days. Emil doesn't answer me either. A few days AFTER the start date, and with great effort, I get a hold of someone. They're behind and don't know when they can get started on it. Maybe two weeks? I'll have a definite start date in a day or two. A day or two goes by. Still nothing. I'm so worried. I make the difficult decision to tell my tenants they can't move in until the second week of May. They're pissed, but I have to do it. I call Emil's phone from a different number and he finally answers. He acts like he has no recollection of my house. I remind him of everything and plead with him to level with me. He promises me he'll talk to his son, and he'll call me back. Of course he doesn't. I call him back the next day, even though he swore he would reach ME, and says two of his crews just quit, he's been having health problems, and that I should just have some other company do it. So one month, several unreturned calls, two contracts, and two blown deadlines later, Blake Flooring just gives up. Backs out. I felt sorry about his health, but having now read other people's reviews, I see that it was bullshit. They've been doing business this way for years. It became clear to me that they sent out the estimate and contract, and when Emil saw what his company just agreed to do, he wanted out. The house wasn't very big, it wouldn't take much work, and probably wouldn't make them much money. So instead of honoring the contract, Blake Flooring Company will lead you on, ignore you, cost you money in lost rent, give you excuses, and finally just tell you to get someone else. Thank you for wasting my time. If they had been professionals from the beginning, they'd have given me a reasonable estimate the first time and stuck to it. Grow up. So don't call them. Get anyone else. P.S.- Because of Blake, I had to do the floors myself. I had no other options by the time I got a straight answer. The tenants didn't move in until mid-May. On the bright side, I learned a new skill. If you're on this page looking to get your flooring done, you should call Blake, schedule an estimate, show up late (or never) and just waste their time. Then, tell me what price they quote you. I'll do your floors for way less than them, just out of spite. read more

When I bought my house in 2012, Blake Floor Company refinished all of my hardwood floors. They did a beautiful job! Someone had put in wall-to-wall carpeting and it had been ripped out before I bought. This left many small holes throughout the living room. There were also two outlets installed in the floor (plaster walls). After Blake Floor Company was done, you would never know the outlets or the holes for the carpet had been there. read more

I just bought a house in Glendale, MO and one of the only things that really needed work was my hardwood floors. Blake Floor did a great job filling in holes, getting most (of what I'm assuming were) pet stains our, and finishing the floors. They finished my 2 bedrooms, a small hallway, living room and dining room. Because of the finish, it took a few days to complete the project (I believe they put three coats on my floors - each took a day to dry). They missed a pretty large spot in the master bedroom, though, that was pretty obvious and should have been caught on a walkthrough. When I told them of the issue, it took a bit of convincing but they met me at the house at 8 am (not between 8am and 12 as originally proposed) to check out the spot. I'd already taken too much time off work to wait around for 4 hours just to make sure they got inside okay. But they replaced the wood and it's as if the random spot never existed! They also did a great job on the quarter round. Because my house was vacant, I really wish someone would have called with an update at some point. Someone to say, "It's about 3:30, we just finished the first coat, all looks well, hoping to be back early tomorrow to start on the second..." Basically, someone to confirm work had been done in the house without me having to go over and peak in a window because opening the door and walking around was out of the question. Horrible company! Save yourself the trouble and stay away from them. This is the absolute worst customer service I have ever received and the work is not great either. After not returning my calls for over a month about finishing the job they now harass me about payment when it still is not finished how they said it would be. I had Blake come out today for an estimate. Kathy arrived on time and did a walk through. She did not take any actual measurements (like the other companies have) and seemed more interested in what we might be selling the property for since she is a realtor. She said the few stains on the floor would probably sand out but wanted to do the estimate to include a darker stain not just the polyurethane coats. She took a few pictures and I noticed when she left she took a picture of the house from the street? Just like in a few of the previous reviews she said they were very busy but if we could do a standby they may be able to squeeze us in if they can just pop in. Not the way I like to do business so I won't be waiting for an estimate before I say No Thank You. read more

I have used Blake Floor Company a few times over the past few years and they seem to have gone from a decent floor company with pretty poor customer service to a horrible company. The last time I called and sent in a contract to start on a floor job, they never showed up, and after two calls to the office secretary who told me the owner, Emil, would call me and never did, I chose another company to do the job. I had waited for two weeks past the start date they gave me and still no response from Emil. The office secretary was nice on this occasion but was sort of rude the other times I have talked to her over the years. As one of the other reviewers said, they do not update you on the job status at all. The quality of their work is decent, and their price is very low, which is the only saving grace of dealing with them. I guess you get what you pay for! read more

I have used Blake Floor for 3 different houses. The first house they did a great job refinishing existing wood (that was in the mid-1990's). The second job they did a decent job in 2000, albeit calling and communication (as stated in other reviews) is poor. I used them for the third and final time in 2013 in a new home, to install pre-finished wood floors. The quality of the work was marginal at best. They did not fill nail holes or want to install a needed threshold between a bathroom and bedroom, without my almost begging. Only after I complained did they fill the nail holes. Now a threshold board is starting to separate, and they won't come out at all. According to the snippy receptionist I spoke with, "Emil wants you to know he won't come out anymore to do anything, and you need to pay the invoice we sent you." I reminded them I had used them for multiple jobs and always paid my bills on time (the one they referenced was for some replacement boards, and the bill was not delinquent in any way.) Things have gone from good to poor with that company, and I guess they get by with their marginal work and poor customer service because they are fairly priced. At some point, though, this will stop working. I got Home Depot to install wood steps recently, and I was impressed with not only the quality of their installers but also their customer service. There were phone calls to me to let me know they were coming, to see if everything was satisfactory, and the guys were exceptionally nice and accommodating. They were the ones that suggested I have Blake come out and evaluate the threshold board (Blake installed) because it was starting to separate. I will NEVER use Blake again or recommend them to anyone. They don't want to stand behind their work and are downright rude to deal with. It takes days for them to call you back, if ever. read more

We've used Blake on about 10 floors, and have been very happy with the results and the price. Several involved restoration of old growth pine that had been abused. On others, we moved walls around and they had to do significant patching. Some of these jobs were done as far back as 10 years and they've held up well. read more

I used Blake Flooring at one of our rental houses and they did a great job. The floor had a lot of pet stains and we had a fake fireplace taken out. They were able to get up all the pet stains and they did such a good job in replacing and blending in the wood where the fake fireplace was you could not even tell it was ever there. I have received a ton of compliments on the flooring and would recommend this company again and again. read more
