I would say that the staff was really nice and the establishment was really clean. However the crabs were a strong no. They tasted old, they were over cooked and somehow the seasoning was brittle and bitter. The shrimp were also over cooked, I could get the shell off. $80.00 down the drain. Second time ordering from this place and both were great experiences! Staff was friendly over the phone and in person. Ordered a dozen large male crabs, 2 pounds of snow crab legs, and 2 corns for two people. The snow crab legs included regular melted butter as well. We did order garlic butter on the side too, but realized it wasn't included until we got home. Fortunately, the one regular butter ended up being sufficient enough for us anyway. The crabs were great! A decent size for large. I think next time I'd go for XL if I wanted to splurge. Both the crabs and snow crab legs were super heavily seasoned with old bay, which coming from a Marylander - was seasoned just right. You'll get a text when the order is ready, which I like, so you're not there sitting in the parking lot waiting. Speaking of parking lot, it can get a bit crazy crowded when it's busy. But luckily we were in and out quickly! Would definitely order again whenever I'm craving crabs. read more

Came here for some crabs as they were one of a few crab houses still selling crabs in January. The line was busy, but got through and placed an order for 1 dz. females for $45 and got 1/2 dz. free. The drive was a straight shot for me coming over East Baltimore to Erdman Ave. Once there, I gave them my name and my crabs were ready for pickup. The staff were pleasant. The decor of the store was nothing to write home about, but I came for the crabs not the ambiance of the establishment as it was carry out only. They also sold steamed shrimp, corn on the cob and even paper to eat your crabs on! Once home, the crab were a nice size and weight. The seasoning was not overly salty and the crabs were steamed perfectly. All on all, a good place to purchase steamed crabs. Will be putting them in my rotation of crab houses to visit from now on. read more

There were multiple larger sized crabs mixed with mediums.. didn't disappoint. I enjoyed the shells being a little softer when it came down to crack!! If you're a fan of peppery crab seasoning, Blakes is the place. These guys always have comparable prices and crab sizes. The only downside is the business hours and the wait at times. For the Fourth of July most people go to a cookout or go to see fireworks. I don't deal well with the crowds and the heat, so I usually just stay in. However, I was craving crabs, and when I saw that Blake's was open from the post on their Facebook page, I decided a last minute trip to Baltimore was in order. They do open on certain holiday's like Father's Day or the 4th, so be sure to check the page for updates if you're thinking of doing something similar in the future. The drive down was so easy due to the lack of traffic. We got there just right after 2:00 PM. The place was packed with people picking these up for their holiday parties. You could barely get in the parking lot. They were sold out of everything except for the medium and jumbo crabs. The staff member kindly told me that the earliest they could have anything was 4:30. I panicked because it was only 2:00 and I wasn't sure what we were going to do for that long. I don't know Baltimore at all. Oh well, we didn't drive down there for nothing. I placed my order and then used my handy Yelp app to find a spot to kill time. We came back at 4:25 and the crabs were freshly steamed and ready right at 4:30 as promised. It was $40 for a dozen medium. We got home a little over an hour later, they were still warm and chalked full of meat and well seasoned. I think they were even better than the ones I had last year! Also, I don't know if it was a mistake or not, but there were a couple extra crabs in there which was a much appreciated bonus. Happy 4th to us! It was definitely worth the drive. We got two meals out of it with a couple of sides I made. I will continue to go to Blake's when I'm craving crabs. read more

So when I come to b'more from Jersey I HAVE to get blue crabs...like who wouldn't?! Lol I typically go to another location, which I still like, but wanted to try something new. I saw Blake's as it wasn't far from my hotel (Embassy Suites-which I recommend). I pulled up and stepped out of the car in heaven...old bay filled my nose! Boy the crowd coming out and going in was a stamp my yelp passport! I ordered a dozen large males. After about a 10minute wait, I'd arrived near closing, the owner informed me they only had 6 large crabs, but gave me 6 extra large crabs AND two cons of corn with no difference in the price. I go here often to order crabs. Went to pick up my order of crabs today. There was an Asian lady whose entire behind was showing through her leggings. I whispered to her "hey just so you know, you can see through your leggings ". But when she leaned in all you could see is a bunch of sores and everything all over her face. She tried to cover it with makeup. She had a horrible attitude even helping me. Classic case of a junkie. I should've known something was wrong when the other women close to the front counter asked her if she needed help finding our order even though I already told her the name. Smh. Please be careful of the people you're hiring. She's not a good representation of your business to be in the front "attempting" to assist customers. read more

A colleague of mine was raving about crabs from Blake's so I hopped on Yelp and was excited to find they have such great reviews. I requested HubBae drive aaaalllllll the way out to Baltimore to pick us up crabs from Blake's a couple months ago and we were not disappointed. Our crabs were heavy, meaty, hot and freshly steamed, and ooooohhhhh that seasoning. Blake's seasoning is a divine peppery goodness that I can't get enough of, despite my typical preference for little to no seasoning on my crabs. We have enjoyed crabs and their signature garlic butter from Blake's that HubBae would pick up all through this past Summer and every single batch has been far better than ones we've gotten from Captain White's at DC's wharf, better than Casey's of Laurel, better than Crab Galley of Bowie / Odenton, and better than Shoreline of Crofton, all the places we have frequented over the years. Blake's crabs are also priced very fair and reasonable and their staff has always been super friendly and informative over the phone, even when we've called during busy holiday weekends. I mentioned twice that HubBae has always gone to retrieve our crab orders from Blake's, but recently I volunteered to take the drive despite not being familiar with their address or that area. Blake's is located off Pulaski highway in a bit of a run down area outside of my typical stomping grounds. As I got closer and closer to their address, with Waze taking me through a lot of distressed looking residential areas of East Baltimore, I thought to myself "ummmmm... really wish my dearest husband would've let me know I was headed to the hood hood." I ran in to pick up the crabs and the employees at the front counter were all really nice and helpful and processed my payment really quickly without incident. When I went to put the crabs in the car though, I noticed rats scurrying around about 20 feet from their entrance and not too far from my car. Here's the thing.... I understand mice and rats exist in every city and even in and around some of Georgetown's most prestigious restaurants, BUT..... I'M SCARED OF RATS!!!!... AND MICE... and really I'm scared of most pests generally. I'm not one of those "oh, it's just a spider" girls. I'm the person running and screaming, flailing their arms in the air at the sight of any bug so just imagine how I... LITERALLY.... TRIED... TO CLIMB... ON THE TOP OF... MY ROOF OF MY CAR... to escape Master Splinter and his homeboys in front of Blake's. I have never gotten into my car as fast as I did, after seeing rats within a stone's throw of distance to me and I had the heeby jeebies for my entire drive home, BUT.... Blake's crabs were still BOMB though, LOL!!! I thought I'd lost my appetite but NOPE! Those delicious crabs got devoured, HubBae got cursed out (not really) for neglecting to give me a heads up for where I was headed, and I got to see where people are talking about when they refer to Baltimore's "over East!" I'm not sure IIIIIIIIII'll be headed back "over East" to pick up crabs from Blake's anytime soon (ever again,) but I'll definitely still be happily sending my friends and family to them to get the delicious and reasonably priced heavy fresh steamed crabs I thoroughly enjoyed all Summer long and will continue to enjoy, just without the colorful experiences from retrieving them. read more

I bought a half bushel of pickings a few weeks ago and took them to Pennsylvania for cookout. They were a hit. Meaty and perfectly seasoned. I don't eat crabs much, but have been tasked to always bring crabs from Blakes, whenever I visit. I'm definitely planning to get more soon. read more

Traveled an hr today onMarch 20. Been going to Blakes for years. Their crabs have gone down. They throw med crabs in when you ordered all large. Some of my crabs were burnt and of course they were at the bottom of the bag when I got home. They have lost a customer because I won't be going back. I let it slid last time because you give them another chance. I travel to far and pay too much to have some lousy crabs. read more

The crabs are so good here! I tried for the first time last summer and have been hooked ever since. Blake's is about a 35 min drive from me but so worth it. The crabs are always so flavorful and juicy! I also enjoy their steamed shrimp, seasoned corn and GARLIC BUTTER. Yes, I put the GB in all caps because it definitely steals the show! So many other places sell butter but it never tops the GB from Blake's! Perfect compliment of flavor on the crabs, shrimp and corn. If you're thinking of trying them out I wouldn't hesitate. Employees very courteous and helpful...actually showed me a crab of the various sizes to help me decide which size. On my way back to NY on a Sunday I was able to get a Pickens selection for $70 a huge box of a mixed size . What a delight when I opened the box and found mostly X lg of the sweetest meatiest crabs perfectly seasoned . I was in and out in 30 minutes . Staff was very helpful . Blake's have the best carry out crabs that I've tried. Good prices, seasoned perfectly and very heavy. It's hard to get through on the phone to place an order. The wait time ordering in the store is about 20 minutes. I made the mistake of going an hour before closing on a Friday and they were out of the small/medium males (which are $36 a dozen). The person who took my order didn't tell me they were out of males and rung me up for the cheaper female crabs instead. Eventually realizing his error, I re-ordered a dozen and a half of large males ($55 a dozen). Just a tip for the business to make sure the board in the store reflecting the crab prices is updated promptly so that customers know what is available. I had the small/mediums the week before and they were very meaty, and I couldn't tell much of a difference from the large crabs. Going forward I will make sure that I get there early enough to get the sm/med. Still, the extra money for the large crabs were worth it! read more

Great service! Awesome dollar crab specials. Hot $2 medium males which were heavy, full of meat with large claws. Actually, their mediums are arguably large crabs at other locations. My husband and I LOOOOOOOVE crab. There's nothing like crab and beer in front of the big screen at home. That said, we ONLY buy from Blakes. This is NOT a restaurant, and you cannot sit and eat. It's take out only. I call ahead, order 2 dozen jumbos and corn, and we're set. Yeah, we live in Baltimore, and can buy from ANYWHERE. But you can't beat the freshness or the heaviness of their crab. Here, a jumbo is actually a JUMBO. Not many places can say that with consistency. As for flavor, there's always just the right amount of spice, and not too much salt. You can even ask them to season yours lightly. Don't let them sit, because they'll overcook. Open the box/bag so the steam can escape. But eat them while they're hot - although they're freakin awesome cold too! Damn. Time for some crab! read more
