Faidley's Seafood in the new Lexington Market absolutely lived up to its reputation. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care. The Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes were the star of the meal--packed with large pieces of sweet crab meat, lightly seasoned, and cooked to perfection with very little filler. The Haddock was fresh, flaky, and perfectly fried with a light, crispy coating. We also ordered the Pot Boil with crabs, shrimp, and snow crab legs, and it did not disappoint. The seafood was fresh, generously portioned, and seasoned just right, making it a fun and satisfying meal to share. What made the experience even better was the outstanding staff. Everyone was incredibly attentive, friendly, and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed and taking the time to answer our questions with a smile. I spontaneously tried this place for lunch. Of course, as everyone else in Baltimore, I have tried their crab cake before. It was in 2012. That's a long time. It was pretty good. Worth the hype. On my last visit last month, I went and got a Catfish Filet and Medium Tea. The Catfish is what took this review from a 5 Star to 4. I was very unsatisfied and disappointed in the Catfish. The breading was icky. Too much, not tasty, and funny looking. The tea was ok. I will skip that as well on my next visit. I will try the Shrimp Platter upon my next visit. Crab cakes are very good. Ordered the lump cake and ate it there. The soft shell crab sandwich is meh. For almost the same price, I'd get a 2nd crab cake. Loved the lump crab cakes so much that I ordered 4 (over $100) to bring to my cousins house for dinner. We made it in time to Faidley's Seafood at the Lexington Market before it closed at 5:30pm! The two of us split the lump crab cake platter (market price $31.95 August 2025), the backfin crab cake platter​ (market price $21.95), and Maryland crab soup $6.50), with the selected sides: cucumber salad, potato salad, Cole slaw, and macaroni and cheese. The crab cakes were accompanied by a handful of greens, and heaping portions of the sides. The soup came with a handful of wrapped crackers - more than we knew what to do with! I preferred the lump crab cake, the sides were all good with the crisp cucumber salad and Cole slaw being pleasantly refreshing. The potato salad was the creamy sort. The shreds of crab was visibly evident in the veggie filled minestrone type soup, but not as evident in taste. Very glad we stopped in during our quick trip. The lump crab cake was as good as advertised. We were impressed with how much crab meat was actually in the cake. Other places we've tried skimp in the meat. We also tried the devil eggs which were a nice addition. They had a bit of a sweet and savory flavor profile that pulled through at the end of the bite. Pretty good! Ordered deviled eggs and the lump crab cake. Probably one of the best scene cakes I've had. They're jumbo and don't disappoint on the lump and lump crab cake. Being from LA, a few of my friends from the DMV were so serious about Faidley's Crab Cakes that they'd have them flown in for special occasions. Had my first taste about 15 years ago and hadn't had them since. Finally making it to the legendary Lexington Market to try them again was a genuinely special moment. Finally got up Crab spot 3 while on the crab crawl and it wasn't bad. I'd say the Crabcake is 2nd on the list only because of the temperature and shell pieces. Service was great. Wow, the seafood here is absolutely incredible! In a small mall like building with lots of other restaurants. Tried the crabcake, catfish, shrimp, and fries. The crabcake was LEGIT and probably the best I've had in my life. That catfish was also worth the try and was very surprised by the taste of it, man, this place is great!! For the sides I got the collard greens and the mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was OK. I don't think I would get it again - it was kind of mushy and lacked any depth of flavor. The collard greens were pretty good although they lacked a bit of acidity. I would like to try the coleslaw next time. The service was pretty fast. They have an assortment of sauces on the side that you can bring to your table, including ketchup, hot sauce, and cocktail sauce. They have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options as well. Newly opened after a remodel last summer, the newly renovated space hosts a social and dining atmosphere with dedicated seating for Faidley's customers. You can find all of your fish, shellfish, and oysters and clams, and other seafood complements here. The crab cakes were good and certainly a great value compared to competitors in Baltimore, however I would not consider them the best. The customer service was good. The ordering process is also easy as the menu items are very easy to understand. Note: many of their seafood items, like crab cakes, will be sold at market price, so anticipate fluctuating prices through the season. You can also purchase ready-to-broil crab cakes and other seafood and sides that are sitting on ice. This local favorite in Lexington Market provides some of the best seafood around at prices that are not bank-breaking. And the ambiance in the Market provides a cool backdrop as a bonus. We tried their signature Crab Cakes, which were excellent. We also had one of my favorites, the Fried Calamari, which was also quite tasty. Don't forget about the sides as they serve up some good options with those as well. I particularly enjoyed the Carrot Salad. When I asked a question of the cashier, her rude response was to tell me to read the menu. 3 stars for service is a gift. It's been quite a few years since I've been able to come to my favorite crabcake stop in Baltimore and it's just as good as I remember it. I went for the platter of the jumbo lump crabcake with fries and my hands-down favorite coleslaw of all time. The stall along with others around it have been updated but the food is exactly the same. The crabcake is just as large with very minimal filler and the slaw is perfectly seasoned and not overdressed, the fries were also good but an afterthought with all that other goodness . We were in Baltimore for a day and absolutely had to stop by Faidley's Seafood. This place is a true Baltimore institution with so much history and so much good food. The servers were all incredibly friendly and told us to check out all the newspaper clippings and photos on the wall. Naturally, we got their famous jumbo lump crab cake. I was absolutely blown away. So fluffy, flavorful, and packed with fresh crab. The best crab cake I've had ever, period. It came with a light salad on the side as well. We also got their cream of crab soup, which was delicious and hearty. I left without trying their Maryland crab soup, but immediately came back to try that as well (couldn't help myself). The folks at Lexington Market could not have been more welcoming and friendly. I think the perfect time to come is right before lunch. Parking is easy. The half a block walk across the street is easy, and Faidley's is the first stall you see as you enter the market. I was short on time after walking the market, so I decided on a jumbo lump crab cake. It is one of the finest crab cakes I've eaten. Very little filler and lots of giant lump crab pieces. It's pretty decadent and comes with a little side salad dressed with an Italian dressing. I also got a selection of local oysters. They work really well with just a squeeze of lemon. I do wish they were cleaned and shucked better...mine were a touch muddy/dirty and there was a loss of oyster liquor. I wish I had more time to try a steamed crab. What an experience! Short and sweet visit but I had an amazing time all on my own. The service was phenomenal. Something as simple as an employee covering my crab cake with a paper plate while I ordered at the raw bar went a long way. When I got here, I approached the counter and "I've never been here. What do you recommend?" Usually, this is such a loaded question. I don't like asking it for that reason. The woman assisting me gave me several options and just wanted to ensure that I had a great gastronomical experience and was immensely kind. The guy shuckin' oysters? I learned in Baltimore that Faidley's and the Lexington Market are classics, and it's clear there's a lot of history and culture in the area. The trek to Market itself is possible on foot from the harbor or the convention center, but the light rail also makes it more accessible. I wouldn't recommend staying near the Market if you're in town for a visit, though. Would definitely make the trip with friends if possible and would not recommend it at night. The Market has a variety of shops and restaurants. Faidley's has a large section along the back. We got the seafood platter with crab cakes, coddies (pieces of cod fish mixed in batter and fried--I read that this was meant to be a more affordable alternative to crab cakes but are soft and tasty in their own way), fried oyster, fried fish, fried shrimp, and some sides including collard greens, green beans, mac and cheese. The crab cakes were the star of the show--savory and rich, spongy and juicy. The other seafood was also tasty because everything was battered and fried, but it was harder to appreciate the freshness of the seafood. The tables are standing only, which was fun and felt very classic. Photos and quotes on the walls from times past documented many other lives and generations, standing here with full platters. I would have liked having a hook underneath the table for my bag. Overall, a fun experience, definitely a key part of a visit to Baltimore. Looks like that part of town had seen better days with such grand historic buildings. Curious how that part of town will continue to evolve. read more

Many negative reviews complained about the crab cakes not tasting the same as it used to, and some others claim to notice excessive amounts of filling vs crab meat. I got the crab cakes here, both the jumbo lump and the backfin. While the backfin had more flavor, the jumbo lump had a more pleasing texture due to the bigger chunks. The backfin is cheaper, but also smaller-looking in volume. They also come sporadically from the oven, so the jumbo lump was lukewarm while the backfin was much more hot, so I'd try to ask if I could get a hot one next time. I made one of them into a platter, which allows you to get 2 sides. I picked the pickled beets and the coleslaw, which was both good and a welcome cleanser to the richness of the crab cakes.
