Some of the crabs were good but I didn't get what I ordered. I ordered a dozen of large female crabs for $60. They tossed small crabs in with the large as if it's okay. They need to let the customer know if they don't have enough of the size requested. You just don't give people what you want them to have. I would have declined and ordered from another spot. It's a basic grab-n-go crab house, not a restaurant. You go in, order your crabs, and wait patiently (normally 10 to 20 minutes) while your order is fulfilled. You can always go to the liquor store next store to get your Bohs while you wait. I highly recommend calling in your order for prompt service. They accept call-ins only on the same day that you are picking up your crabs. If you want to pick up your crabs as soon as they open, call about 30 minutes beforehand and leave a message. To get the most bang for your buck, make sure to listen to the whole message when you call because it lists the specials for that particular day. read more

Carryout crab feast is one of our favorite meals to have at home. We have our "go to" crab place, but because MD crab season is pretty much over, we had to try somewhere new when my sister was visiting from out of town. The crabs here were AMAZING!!!! Maybe some of the best that we've ever had. PRICE/PROCESS: So we didn't know that we could call ahead of time, but when we showed up, we placed our order and they said it would take 20 minutes. Not a big deal because it's nice that they steam them to order. Some of the crab places steam a whole ton of them and then they just sit there getting really watery. They had medium, large, and extra large. We chose the "large" size. It was $50 for a dozen males, and $30 for a dozen females. We ended up getting a dozen males and 6 females. $65 between the three of us isn't so bad! I'm pretty sure, although I didn't count them, that they threw in a few extra crabs. That always adds some goodwill and makes us want to go back. TASTE: The crab seasoning that they used was spicy and delicious. The meat on the males was juicy and plump, and the meat on the females was more delicate and sweet. As a heads up, the female shell definitely felt harder to crack then the males. Also, I was happy that some of the crabs had the "eggs" and gooey stuff. I was even happier that none of the crabs had that watery taste- probably because they were steamed fresh for us. LOCATION: The sign for Blake's is blocked off by some trees so just be on the lookout for it if you're traveling from the West. Also, my phone gps showed me two different ways to get there coming from the city. The first way is along Pulaski highway, the second way is the way that we picked. Pick Pulaski highway!!! Even though it adds a few extra minutes, it'll be worth it. The way that we came went through some questionable parts of town and normally I don't get worried, but some of the roads were so bumpy and full of potholes that I was worried about getting a flat tire! Plus that way was really confusing and at night, it's not good to get lost. Oh Overall, we'll definitely be back! They told us that they were still getting MD blue crabs (early november) but that they would be switching to getting crabs from out of town and that the prices would go up. Either way, the service was very friendly, the crabs were incredibly fresh, and the location is near KFC/Popeyes if you want to get some chicken to go with your crab feast while you wait! read more

On Sunday, I went to Blake's Crab House, Inc. . Something rubbbed me the wrong way when I called and asked do they take card over the phone and the response was "no, and we don't take EBT either". I didn't inquire about EBT. Which should've been my red flag but I'm not in the business of taking everything personal so I ignored that. I went to pay and pick up my crabs at 5:30 pm. I received a text to come inside to get my order. I gave the cashier one debit card. She said nothing, walked to the back and another lady came out to the front. When she approached me her disposition was off kilter. The first words out her mouth were "is that card stolen, has there been any issues with that card" -- my card was still on the back counter. I told her I hadn't used the card, so maybe it wasn't taking because the bank doesn't recognize it as me, so just as anyone else would do in a store if there's an issue with a card, I gave her another debit card. I would've simply called the bank to tell them it's me. As a former banker I know for certain, as many of us, it is not unusual for a bank to lock a card due to inactivity, a purchase in an area you don't frequent, or an invalid pin. So I assumed she was giving me my first card back in my hand. She went to my other card in the card machine, picked my first debit card up -- and cut it with scissors. I asked her did she cut my card. She goes, "uh yeah I did, we have to the receipt says 'card hold'" I said "card hold could be anything, you should've gave it to me so I can call my bank" she tells me "well if it says card hold we have to confiscate the card, cut it and put it in a safe." I was thrown off because first of all, she was talking to me like a criminal. She then says "and she wasn't even supposed to take that card because that card wasn't signed on the back" I said "and neither was the other card, which I assumed you were giving back and cutting it wasn't your place because it's not stolen it's mine". She's still very sure the card was stolen. Never had I been asked for ID. Never did she ask me to call the bank. Never did she properly state that illegal and made up process and procedure they have convinced themselves are correct. I told her to put the card on the counter, because at that point I wasn't asking anything or being nice. She held the card all the way at the edge of the counter, it was so far I couldn't even zoom in to get a good enough picture. I reached my hand to move it forward, she kept jerking and moving the card back and said "nope, nope, you're gonna try and take the card" well, considering it's mine I didn't see the issue. She eventually moved it close. Then I said "turn it over so I can get a picture form the back" she said "what?" I said "turn it over so I can take a picture of my card," I took the picture and told her and the rest of the staff, I'll be calling the Better Business Bureau and the Police. I said I was gonna let it go because I didn't want to get belligerent, so I left. I did call the manager to let him know how rude his staff was. The managers name is Josh. He told me "I was right there, I did think that could've been handled differently." I told him there was a way she was supposed to communicate with me and she failed to do that, I am a loyal customer and that she was unprofessional. His response was, "well I can say, she's been going through some things, so she's been on edge lately." I told him I don't care about that, we all go through things and when you are at work you put that in your back pocket especially when you work in any type of customer service. Hour or so later, they sent me text messages about absolutely nothing. The same pic and reciept that I have in my own phone. No type of apology or communication for the mosunderstanding or mistreatment. I spoke to my bank, never do they ever authorize a merchant to cut someone's card and they told me that would be considered a legal issue because it's technically my property. I filed the police report Sunday night online. Well, yesterday according to BCPD they told me to meet them at the store because by law it was illegal, and it was theft of my property and destruction. We met there yesterday at 3:00 and to no prevail I didn't get my property. I left, only to have 2 missed calls and a voicemail message from "Mrs. Blake" with a nasty attitude and condescending tone. Please know you are only as good as your leader, and what you allow is what will continue. I kindly told her to stop calling my phone because it's harassment. I'm sharing this to say, discrimination is real. I've never experienced this before. I thought about what could've happened had I grabbed the card and tried to walk out. Which shouldn't have to be my worry on concern. Because I asked her to stop calling my phone, she keep calling me from an unknown number. Actions of people speak louder than words. Tone matters. So be careful to who and where you put your money. read more

They mad medium males for $2.00 so I said let me get a dozen a try them. I placed my order driver there and picked them up. I arrived a typical crab place for Carry out. I got my crabs and left and went home to eat. The crabs was still warm when I arrived home. I open the bag and took some out they were a mice size some of them had to be large crabs. After several recommendations, I finally tried Blake's. The recommendations were on point. The crab prices are beyond reasonable and the crabs themselves are fantastic. We got a dozen smalls for $20 on two separate occasions. The smalls were packed with sweet flavor and extremely juicy. The meat was plentiful and all the crabs were well cooked. I like the spice blend, it seems have a bit more spicy heat than elsewhere, which I like. At certain hours, you can request less spice or no spice. The normally excellent customer from the long time employees has been replaced with horrible service from the new faces. I'll spend time and money for good customer service. I'm very disappointed with my latest experience with Blakes. I live in Philadelphia. I drove over 2 hours to go to Blakes, traffic from Philly to Baltimore was really bad I guess because its Memorial Day weekend. I was initially disappointed because they weren't selling large crabs (male or female) by the bushel, only by the dozen for $65. So I was prepared to settle for 2 dozen live crabs, even though I wanted the half bushel. I asked if they could put them in my cooler with some ice for my long trip home, which they did the last time I was there. To my surprise, the manager who was a blonde guy told me "no" and that they're not supposed to do that. Huh? You sell live seafood, packing it in ice should be standard procedure. I asked again and reiterated the fact that I had a 2 hour drive back to Philly. The "manager" then replied that I could go buy ice from a store around here and that "There are plenty of places to buy ice around here". I thought to myself that there are plenty of places to buy crabs too and left. I was about to spend $130 on crabs from this place and they refused to pack my order in ice. That's like going to a restaurant and being told they won't serve your food on a plate, you have to go buy it yourself and bring it to the restaurant. Outrageous! I ended up going to Conrad's and when I asked if they could put ice in my cooler for my long drive home, the cashier immediately responded "Of course!" She even gave me tips and told me leave the bag a little open and don't put the lid on so the crabs can breathe. Now THAT is a professional business. Also, they had a half bushel of crabs at a reasonable price, which is what I wanted in the first place. I'm not really sure what's going on with Blake's. If a customer is spending over a $100 in your establishment, you should be more than willing to pack their order in ice. I think Blake's has gotten lazy, arrogant or both. Terrible customer service and I don't think I'll return. Blake's isn't the only game in town. Conrad's service was friendly, professional and the crabs were really good too. I love Blakes Crabs. Been coming here for years. The last time I came here, I told the manager that the last time I came-half of my crabs were very light. He basically said, "too bad" because I did not know that I was supposed to bring them back. I live very, very far away. Okay, so this time the exact same thing happened. I bought all of them back and he said "oh yeah they are lite." He gave me a different batch and this time they were heavy. I paid over $100 each time. I have been coming here for years and never experienced this before. I just think he should have given me extra carbs the first time and or the second time. From the time that Kristi Blake reached out to me via Facebook, ordering my crabs, and picking them up, was a great experience. The customer service was AWESOME! I will be honest... I was a little reluctant that this contest was too good to be true. However, it turned out to be an on time blessing. I decided to order my bushel for my mom's birthday party. I was so nervous that they would not have crabs the day I pre-ordered. However, when I arrived Kristi's niece greeted me with excitement and had my bushel of crabs ready for pick-up. Terrible experience........ I went there on a Friday evening after long work week ,with my daughter to buy some crabs. I saw people using their credit and debit cards to pay and Blake's is constantly telling them they have to show ID in order to use their credit or debit card I'm sitting there in disbelief because that is a clear violation of credit card companies policy. so it's my turn to pay for the Dozen crabs that I wanted to buy for $80 and of course I tell them I don't have to provide ID in order to use my credit card the cashier gets a manager to come up and try to reinforce the silly store policy of customers having to show ID in order to use their credit or debit card. I tell them no you're in violation of Visa which clearly states that the store can not require ID in order to complete the transaction as long as the credit or debit card is signed on the back. I show them my card and even though they are now aware of the violation they simply will not sell me the crabs. What can I say.. I'm a true Baltimorean thru and thru! I have been eating crabs for as long as I can remember and for just as long that Blake's box was a staple. The prices are tremendously resonable, they are always fresh and always seasoned just right.. I love that I can walk in and they can still call me by name.. Blakes oh Blakes. First place I've given 5 stars on here. I've never ordered the large or jumbo crabs because they are usually sold out by the time I order. Crabs are seasoned very well. These crabs are so serious I drive from Owings Mills to get them and then I don't even want to share when I get back home lol. The ladies that work here are really nice. You can only carry out. Every time I order they give me more than I ordered. And the prices are just right whether you are buying crabs for a group or just for yourself. They have specials everyday. Delicious meaty crabs!! Theres nothing much to say but thank you Blakes for living up to the recommendation!! I will admit one or two of the dozen and a half had tough meat but the rest were great!! I couldn't get through on the phone so had to go to the store and order so it took about 30min for my order to be ready. I opted to get 2 ears of corn as well and they were to DIEEEE for...I might go back once just for a bunch of corn lol!! My first experience at Blakes wasn't that great. The crabs were just okay and enough to satisfy my crab craving. The second visit was everything! I went an hour after opening and purchase a dozen of medium males that were $2 a piece. I knew what I was getting my self into. I just wanted to soothe my craving so at that point, size didn't matter. When I arrived home and opened the bag, I was blown away! They were huge, meaty, well-seasoned and hot! Great crabs, well seasoned. If you want to call in an order for pick-up...good luck getting someone to answer the phone. If you don't catch them when they open and they start getting busy, they won't be able to answer the phone. The prices vary based on whatever they catch so it's really a gamble on what sized crab will be available throughout the day. The prices were pretty decent as well. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because I wish the hours were better. read more
