This was our first experience with Blake's. The store was busy, but we received our food in a reasonable amount of time. The food was very good--in fact, one of the best green chilli cheeseburgers I've had in a while. The service was fine. The only drawbacks: the tables/front needed to be cleaned, and only one restroom worked, except the lock on the door. Great bacon chile burgers. Service is not at all fast, but they cook it all to order. Their breakfast is also quite good. Customer service has taken a serious nose dive recently. Was great for a long time, but not so great lately. Employees cussing in the kitchen, and an overall feeling of "I don't want to be at work" hope they improve, as I hear Carl's Junior and Burger King are moving into Carlsbad. Blake's needs attention to service, but they REALLY need to update their facility. It is an old Burger King, and it shows. Signs outside are cracked and fading, interior is dirty and rarely clean. While recently in Carlsbad to see the caverns, we decided to have a late lunch/early supper at Blake's. I have been a fan of Blakes since the early '80's when they had a location (I think 2) in Phoenix. Whenever we travel through New Mexico, I always try to stop at Blakes and support the hometown team. We arrived around 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, and the place was dead (the Taco Bell next door was busy). There was one other couple in there eating. We decided that we would go in and try it. We should've went to Taco Bell! When we walked in, the Manager greeted us and we checked out the menu. One of the employees in the kitchen area looked up at me, and I gave him a cursory nod and smile. I got a scowl with a "screw you" look back. Once again, we should've left then and there. I'm sorry that you're in your 40's and working in a fast food restaurant, but that's not my fault. You made the choices that put you there, not me. I'm there to help you keep your job by patronizing your restaurant. There was a sign by the entryway that stated National Geographic magazine had rated Blake's as having the best green chile cheeseburger. Perfect, I know what I'm having. My Wife and Junior decided on their meal. We ordered, and waited for our food. The dining room and most of the tables were dirty, we had to look to find a clean table. Back in the stone age, when I worked at Burger King, if the restaurant wasn't busy, we were cleaning (wiping down tables, sweeping and moping the floor, taking out the trash, cleaning the rest rooms), not having conversations loud enough for the customers to hear. I kept my eye on the cook as best I could, because after his warm welcome, I didn't want the "special sauce" to end up on our food. We received our food fresh and hot. My Wife and I both had cheeseburger meals, and Junior had the chicken sandwich combo. The burgers were good. I have always liked Blake's burgers, and these didn't disappoint, except for one thing. No Hatch green chile on my burger. I checked my receipt, and yes, I was charged $.50 for the slice of green chile, it just didn't appear on my burger. As always, I don't send food back or get into it with the staff. If the food is good, I will eat it (this was!); if it's not good, I'm out of there and won't be back. Worst customer service ever! Walked in and was ignored for 5 minutes before I finally said I am ready to order, and in return got will get with you when I get a minute. When someone finally came to take my order, I started to order and he slammed his pen down and said talk normal I can't even hear you. So rude! The entire time I waited the three guys complained about their job and talked about the customers! The food was ok but not good enough to have to deal with the rude service. Don't come to this place if you're in a hurry. They do not have pre-made hamburgers here they make to order. If you like the old fashion griddle cooked burgers these are really good. We are from out of town and saw that most cities have Lotaburger so we thought we would try it. The only reason I gave it two stars was I liked their sauce. My bun was stale and the burger had no taste. The seating area needed to be cleaned and it was very warm in there. Soda area also needed cleaning. The staff was busy talking to an employee who obviously was on break instead of cleaning. They also were very concerned about how much in tips they were making. One employee even counted it while we were there. Next time I'll make sure to read the reviews. read more

The absolute worst service I have ever had. 21 minutes wait at the drive thru for 1 budger and onion rings. We tried to get the girls attention and she would turn away. I called and watched the guy lay the phone down and walk away. I honked the horn to get the window girls attention as she carried food 2 vehicles behind us and she again ignored me.
