We moved into our house about a year ago and noticed we had a leak in our roof. We check a few places for quotes but learned that Blalock installed our solar panels so wanted to check if they also do roofing. Luckily they do both and went with them as their quote was competitive (including reinstalling the solar panels) and knew that they were the experts with handling our solar panels. We met Lenny (Leonard) who managed the overall project on-site as well as Art & Sara who managed the office/follow-ups/payment and with all the contractors we worked with for our house, they were by far the best in class. The roof was done on time and communication was phenomenal. Highly recommend for roofing and solar panel installation. Received an alert/email from my solar panels (Enphase System) that some/one of my micro inverters was not communicating with the gateway. I logged in and saw one panel that was black-sent an email inquiring about it on New Years Day-the next morning, the company had already inspected my system and ordered the new micro inverted and once it arrives they will call to schedule the install. The solar system works well, but good luck getting in touch with them. Does not answer calls. Messaging is full. Asked for 4 more panels over a year ago. Nothing. Been wanting to add a battery. No luck. Based on my observations and experiences, once they have your money don't expect any kind of response or service. To clarify- great product, but the service is shockingly nonexsistant. Months ago I actually researched if they were still in business. It appears that they are- but it appears it is for the new customers. I guess a battery and 3 or 4 panels is not worth their time for an existing client. I am stuck. If I go to another company, it may put the warranty at risk on my home solar system. read more

The company was responsive when we first installed the system in April of 2024. However there were initial installation problems that required several visits to fix. Moving forward the batteries have shown errors several times over the last 21 months. I was told that the company is not responsible or involved and to call Enphase the company that manufactures the batteries. I have done so repeatedly. The system has to be reset and checked every time. Three days ago I was on the phone for 43 minutes. Today another 28 minutes. One battery seems to be more problematic, but Enphase reboots, after considerable effort on my part while Blalock is apparently is not responsible even though they installed the panels as well as the batteries... read more

We started our quest for home solar systems in the middle of December 2023, working with Electrum, which quickly provided me three (3) competitive proposals for the project at our Tustin home. We ultimately selected Blalock Electric & Solar. Blalock quickly sent a representative to confirm the selected location on the roof, the number of panels, etc. Electrum, then Blalock, began the work, with two installers taking less than one full day to complete the installation. Communication with Blalock throughout the process was AMAZING. I always got very quick replies to any emails that I sent. It took 2 inspections by the City of Tustin building inspectors, a week apart, and both went well, though an adjustment in the location of an electrical box had to be made. Previously I got Solar here and they were very slow, but this was back in 2022 (tail end of pandemic). After the job was done, I checked the roof and had to ask them to come back replace some broken tiles and clean up some mess that they left behind. Overall, not the best experience but I got a good price. 6 months later, I realized that the solar was not working and contacted Blalock. Good morning, Third contact today after leaving a message on Blalocks message machine last Friday before the 5:00 Pm closing time. I communicated their lack of responsiveness & my desire to have the company provide a bid given all the reviews I assumed were real and authentic here on Yelp. The salesman who has just hung up the phone with me was more concerned about other solar companies bids and my reasoning for not selecting them, than he is of capturing my business. It's shocking to me that "Nick" the owner isn't concerned what so ever or more so that this sales person is fabricating parts of the story to account for his irresponsibility to the company he works for in garnering business. When i asked that very question to the salesman if they "even wanted my 23,000 dollars for solar panel installation", he said "NO" . If you want to do business with solar installation companies, electrical companies or this type of work, given the experience Blalock Electrical has displayed, my recommendation is that you not turn and walk away from them, but rather you turn and RUN!!!! These are very expensive installations and whomever you choose to do the work is supposed to warrant your roof for many many years. Be carful with their customers. Exchange a fair labor and parts with a work ethic and moral compass which represents the Nordstrom's or Tesla experience. Blalock Electrical is NOT going to give you that experience. If you are interested in rolling the dice, may I suggest the 100's of other companies who want your business. Their your dollars, you're installing solar to try and hang on to as many of your hard earned dollars as possible. Blalock electrical salesman was dishonest with me and deflective because he's either lazy or some other unknown reason. He had the audacity to say he lost my number, but had no trouble calling me back this morning, isn't that odd? Yes. I thought so too. Furthermore, he knew my home address because I gave him my plans from the initial installation of my existing 39 panel's and he dropped them back off on my porch. Why wouldn't he follow up on any other day? I don't know the answer to that either. Finally he mentioned today that he would need to install another sub-panel. I'm perfectly fine with that as well, but he refused to provide a quote to do all of the work. Why wouldn't an electric company just provide a quote and do the work? I'll tell you why, because the salesman too busy to do his job. To busy fabricating stories of what was or wasn't said during our conversation to cover his own bum, than to just do his job! I'm not mad, upset or sad about this experience as much as I am in shock and awe. Money is tight for people during Covid and when general contractors are busy as in past years, they treat the customers as an option, not the priority you are. What an efficient operation! Blalock installed our solar, which was just turned on today. (Yea!!) We had to work through the installation of a sub-panel, as well as a whole house fan and an EV charger. Each of these raised aesthetic and performance issues which Blalock could not have handled any better. Our preference was to upgrade our existing electrical panel but SDG&E was going to require us to trench to the handle at the curb to install a new panel, thousands of dollars we did not have. The sub-panel was the perfect solution, and Blalock was consistently willing to answer questions and direct us to the best way to do the sub-panel. (Can we put the pool on the sub-panel? Sure, but it's not necessary.) Blalock started with two visual inspections of our property, and then a third to determine the best, most efficient way to run the EV charger from the panel to the garage. Blalock's workers were on time, courteous, and helpful. Leonard the roofer was awesome, super cool cat who did really nice work. Blalock ran the EV charger under the eaves and then painted the silver casing to minimize any cosmetic issues. They asked where we wanted the whole house fan in the attic -- we deferred to their judgment. They instructed us how to use the whole house fan and warned us multiple times to make sure there are windows open when it is running so we do not burn out the motor. Sara Gomez, Blalock's office manager, has guided and directed us through the process, and even answered an email question on a Sunday (!) even though it was not urgent. Post-install we had one small hiccup that Blalock quickly came out and corrected. I would describe Blalock's work as very precise -- they did what they said they were going to do, when they said they were going to do it, they were very tidy and clean, and they continually asked us what we wanted and worked with us to accomplish it. Permitting went quickly, scheduling was easy, install went smooth, and the inspection was painless. I couldn't be happier with the look and early production numbers from our 19 LG 370 watt Neon R panels with Enphase IQ7+ microinverters. The Enphase IQ Combiner 3 with Envoy allows remote monitoring of the system via the Enlighten app which makes tracking system status and production easy.
