We celebrated my birthday there this week. It was even more than I expected! The speakeasy feel and decor were superb. Our server, Chloe, gave us recommendations for cocktails. Mine had whiskey with egg foam and a lemon on the top to make it look like an egg. The drink glass was served in a nest. The bartender made special birthday shots for us. It's the perfect place to take someone you actually like talking to. Cell phones aren't allowed and it's a much needed break from having your attention hijacked by an inanimate device. The vibe is basically "Rich Grandpa's Hunting Lodge on Shrooms." There are taxidermy animals everywhere, but they're wearing jewelry or holding martini glasses, and look like they've seen things they can't unsee. It's like the animals had a coup, took over the mansion, and started a high-end cocktail program. It's dark, moody, and fancy enough that you forget you're in downtown Phoenix. Was very grateful to have a free Saturday night to snag a reservation here. Reading as one of the top cocktail bars in Phoenix I can certainly see why! After checking in, you're lead away to a secret door that unless you know it's there it's like you're being whisked to the unknown. You're met with a wall of library card catalog. This is where you will lock your phone away during the experience. Yes NO PHONES ALLOWED. I actually loved this concept to disconnect. While I went solo and people watched, it would be a great place for a date or quality time with someone without the distraction. Once your phone is locked away (you keep the key you have access to it as needed outside the bar) you're shown behind the curtains. Adorned with an array of awards and a large bear keeping watch, you're seated and presented with an extensive drink menu! I mean you have options. Mocktails available as well! Note there is no food here so eat before if needed or head up to Wren and Wolf for dinner after. Great place for either pre dinner or post dinner drinks. Well crafted high quality cocktails with unique ingredients and names. I won't give away all the secrets here but you won't go away thirsty! Cool small speakeasy located inside of Wren & Wolf. We went before our dinner reservations. You have 90 mins and NO PHONES. Once you're let inside a side door you have to lock your phones up. My reaction was "you're kidding, right", then I said, let's do it. You keep the key to your numbered box. This is such a perfect way to disconnect from your phone and have ongoing conversations with no interruption. I kept attempting to show our bartender the activities we did while in Arizona, but forgot I didn't have my phone lol. We had a good ole time with our bartender (male, forgot his name but I've learned he's afraid of heights and won't go on a hot air balloon ride LOL!!). He made this drink something near an old fashioned but it was topped with an entire gingerbread cookie, I had about 3. Oh, and the staff all had on Christmas pajamas as uniform. So cute & comfy! Keep in mind we have no sense of time so we were nervous about being late to our reservations for Wren & Wolf.. the hostess assured us she would come get us and escort us to the table in time. In the end you basically get 2 drinks to pay off your reservation fee. Only drinks served here, no food. You have a certain amount of time for your reservation as well. I went on a first date and it was very nice and intimate, great drinks, brown leather, small space with dim lighting and well lite bar. We had a great time and really got to focus on our conversation so I will definitely be back. The servers were on it with the drinks and they have cute names and are more spirit forward. This bar is stunning! I booked a rezzy here so my boyfriend and I could grab some drinks before dining at Wren + Wolf. The server was really great and knowledgable! I wish I could remember her name but she made the drinks so well. I had a few different drinks here - one with coconut tequila (super yum!), one with honey and another that tasted like Christmas. It's a cute place. We went to see the Halloween pop up. It was cool. The servers were dressed as camp counselors and they had a whole Friday the 13th theme. It's $25 a person to make a rsvp and that money can go toward drinks. Their alcoholic drinks are $18 per drink. If you don't use the full $25 per person you lose it and you can't use that money toward a tip. You have to tip on top of that so that other money is just SOL. I really did enjoy checking the place out. The rsvp is 90 minutes do they make you leave when your time is up. I don't ever need to go back. What a fun experience. You'd think the no-photo-allowed concept would be a real bummer for someone who enjoys documenting everything like I do, but I liked the novelty of it. The room is very beautiful and the craft cocktails are tasty. Lots of attention to detail, and some very attentive staff. Still lots of photo ops possible in the entrance hallway, where photos are permitted. Do not miss the bathroom, possibly the most unique one in all of Phoenix! To make a reservation, I had to pay a $25 nonrefundable deposit per person, which goes towards your drinks. Drinks were each $18, so it wasn't hard to make our deposit money worth. You are given 1.5 hours for your reservation, and your time starts at your reservation time, so be sure to arrive a little earlier. They have you lock up your cell phones in the beginning, which only added to the experience in my opinion. The ambience was cool, and the inside was aesthetic and had some digital art wow-factors. There wasn't any food available, just drinks. We had the watermelon sugar high, teddy bear book club, rainbow road, apple-y ever after, and down with the thiccc-ness. The bar was behind a curtain, and before you went in, they laid out the house rules which included a no cell phone policy. You were to place your phone locked into a large apothecary wall with drawers and locks. They told us that this was to be more in the moment. I love me a good speakeasy! My friend and I saw this one on Instagram and had to try it. The allure - no phones allowed inside! I don't have a problem keeping my attention on my guest but the appeal still stands. It's a nice disconnect from the world for 1.5 hours. They definitely kept the actual location under wraps but the random velvet rope had to lead somewhere I suppose! I got a picture of the cute lockers and the trophies in the hallway but obviously nothing inside the speakeasy. Overall it was a fun experience, I had the Down with the Thickness cocktail and my date had the Trophy Wife cocktail. Both were excellent and about $16 each. There's not the option to give this 4.5 stars but I would if I could! It was really a neat place, I somehow prior to going did not realize the theme and was pleasantly surprised when we got there! The drinks were delicious and it was super cute in there. When you first get there you have to lock your phone away in a box and can't take photos while in there (I like this idea, forces everyone to be present) the reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because I think it would be really nice for them to sell appetizers or small plates in addition to drinks. Our server told us that the Dirty Little Secret was his favorite drink, and it did not disappoint-- it's the best drink I tasted here or at Wren & Wolf. I knew I loved Wren & Wolf so I had high expectations for the Trophy Room and it surpassed it. Once you get over the shock of leaving your phone locked up, you start to notice all the amazing decor, the wonderfully crafted drinks and that you are actually having authentic conversations not only with who you arrived with but the waiters, bartenders and other patrons. I literally cannot remember going to a bar and conversing with so many people and it was organic and felt to relaxed. The drinks are pricy if you are not used to the bar experience is everything trend but they are delicious and complex and have subtle and flavorful notes that hit at different moments as you enjoy your drink. The decor is like the super masculine sexy vibe that you didn't know you wanted in your life. Rifles galore and the bullets are everywhere. Do not miss the bathroom, it's over the top and fabulous!! The ambience inside is romantic cabin-y vibes with super dark lighting (you can barely read the menu ), tons of wall decor to look at (including more trophies and guns than I can count!) and it's communal seating so you'll likely end up sitting across from strangers! The service was great - our waiter recommended several new drinks based on our taste profile and we liked every one of them! I do enjoy the low light and projectors that give the impression that the paintings on the wall are moving... Almost feels like a Harry Potter portrait. As others have stated, there is no food available which kind of stinks when the drinks are this tasty and strong! My main issue is - Opentable secures $75 to make your reservation... and if you dont use the $75 while there - "they absorb" (the restaurant) the difference... and tip is additional. Just wanted one round - after dinner drink... $75 plus tip for a cocktail? Not a good business practice....
