Enjoyed this Dinkytown spot in MN! It is great for a quick bite & beverages. I loved the historic decor. They have a huge variety of signature shots! I only gave a 4 as the prices were above expectation seeing as this is not an elegant restaurant. Plus after we were seated, it took about 10 minutes to be greeted at our table.

Whoop! Whoop! Go Gophers! MY adult daughter and I received a great big "Hello" from the guys behind the bar and a "what can we get you?" as we entered. We went belly up to the bar. Bar service came with a refreshingly friendly attitude and food (chicken strips and fries) came cold and we sent them back and they got comped-no Biggy. Wasn't expecting much from the food side of this place. Go to Blarney for the drinks and the fun school atmosphere before, during or after a gopher event. RAHH!

I stopped at Blarney Pub & Grill on a Saturday early afternoon with two of my friends. We wanted to stop for a quick drink and appetizer and that is exactly what we got. We found a seat at a high top immediately as the bar was quiet at this time of day. Our waitress was great and gave us the perfect amount of attention. We all started off with drinks, I ordered an amaretto sour and it was SO tasty. We also decided to get the chicken tenders and the onion rings. The chicken tenders were super tasty and crispy, very yummy. The onion rings were not as good but still a fun appetizer. This place has a fun atmosphere and even had a few arcade games on the upstairs level. I will definitely be coming back here for more pre-dinner drinks!

Owned by Blarney Rubble, it's a watering hole for Minnesota students. Pretty cute Irish Pub that has pretty high prices right in the middle of the University District. Watch for the cops patrolling around here because they're always looking for underage people drinking or people drinking and driving. A lot of students that come here walk though, because it's close to all of the college housing. Lots of cute people coming in and out of here which I like. They could do a better job of showing all the soccer games I want them to see. And their food is nothing to write home about but the drinks are fine. Prices are a little high but you expect that in a college neighbourhood. The reason they don't get a higher rating is because the people working here are sometimes real jerks. So are some of the people that park out front so watch out.

    Reuben and a pint

After seeing the 2.5 star overall rating, I was skeptical about meeting a friend here. But here's the thing... it's a BAR, on a Big 10 college campus and that should set your expectations. What this place has going for it is a really prime location. Right off 4th St on 14th Ave, this gets you easily to Mariucci, TCF, or in my case... The Varsity Theatre. The interior is a pretty cool, pseudo Irish pub. There's whiskey barrels converted into high top tables in the central dining part of the bar. There are deep, cozy booths surrounded by lots of mahogany wood. The bar counter top has this pressed copper on top of it. It's all fairly attractive in a fake Irish sort of way. The food is decent bar fare. I ordered the Reuben and a Guinness (when in Rome ya know). The Guinness was poured in a proper two part fashion and delivered with a nice head that didn't overflow. The Reuben contained real roast corned beef. What I'm talking here is meat that's part of a "roast", not sliced, processed, and pressed lunch meat. That makes all the difference to me. Now, I wouldn't go here and order a steak or anything like that. But, if you're looking for a good Reuben and a proper pint before a game or an event on campus, you can do a lot worse. Cheers!

I decided to try the breakfast at Blarneys with my friend and her mom. We ordered the everything omelette, a stack of pancakes, and a side of sausage. Overall the food was good, way better than Tony's diner and cheaper. But no matter when I come to blarneys they seem to be extremely short staffed. I wish blarneys would staff more people because there food is always good and i avoid the restaurant when I don't want to wait for 2 hours.

FOOD: I enjoyed their chicken caesar this time which had great cheese, well seasoned blackened chicken, and a great dressing. AMBIANCE: I've now sat inside at the lower level, upper level, and outside -- all of which provide a similarly enjoyable and lively vibe which is neither too loud nor quiet.

When we entered at 12:30pm, the host told us that it was too late for breakfast since I was keen on some variation of a full English. Was surprised that they had stopped serving breakfast or brunch given the weekend. The menu still had a lot of variety although the prices were higher than expected. I thought it might have been a World Cup markup but checking the website today showed that they were consistent. Then again the website didn't show any breakfast options either so maybe they just don't serve breakfast. Ordered the fish and chips. The portions were large but should be given the $28 price. The batter was malty but had a weird aftertaste. Maybe it's the oil. Our waitress was nice.

This place does get busy so definitely keep that in mind. Luckily I made reservations ahead of time so we had a table waiting for us, otherwise we would have been put on a waiting list since it's a small space. They put us in a corner booth which was nice and spacious enough for 4 people so I'd definitely recommend asking for a booth verse a table if you're planning to come with a larger group. The servers are all very friendly and helpful. I appreciated their attentiveness and sharing what they like best, especially for what's in season based on the time of year. The menu has quite a bit of variety too which is sometimes unexpected when you come to a pub-style location. For appetizers we got Onion Ring and Fried Pickles. They were both really good and served with dipping sauces. Definitely both shareable items so if you're in a group they'd be great options! My entree I chose the Wild Alaskan Sockeye Salmon served with lemon soy marinade, creamy cucumbers, and jasmine rice -- it was SO good!! I loved the creaminess of the cucumbers especially with the rice and than the lemon soy marinade was just a unique touch to the salmon. Toned the flavors down without overpowering acidity. And the salmon was so dreamy, a beautiful pink color that you just knew it wasn't a farm raised salmon. Plus the portion was very generous!! I'd definitely recommend the Alaskan Sockeye Salmon to anyone interested in visiting here. #eatwildsavewild The only negatives (which are more so just knowledge bombs for you): * Restaurant is VERY loud. It's hard to hear because it is one small room that everyone plus the bar is in. I wished I would have took a picture to show what I mean. Just know that if it's an intimate setting you're looking for this is not the place. So be prepared to talk loudly over the loudness and ask "excuse me?" or "repeat that" many times throughout your visit because you're not going to hear everything. * Timed eating. Because this place is a hit with limited seating, once you get a table and complete your meal/payment you'll kindly be asked to leave so that they can clean up and open the table to next in line. Totally get that and am not put off by this at all, but I could see how it could catch some folks off guard especially if you are out for a meal with folks you may not see frequently-- so just keep that in mind. This is not the place to sit and talk post meal. * Parking is limited. Be prepared to walk a few blocks as the road parking in front of the business is pretty limited especially with the other stores and restaurants in the area. Regardless of those few bullets I highly recommend folks visit George & The Dragon. It's a really cool spot and the food was great! Plus theirs a malt shop right next door that looks yummy too, so definitely worth visiting and getting malts after for dessert.
