Since I am a college student I want to love Blarneys, but each time I go there, the only thing I am "in love" with is their cheap drinks. The main thing I do not like about it is how packed it gets on a Friday or Saturday night after about Midnight. I personally do not find pushing your way through a packed bar just use the bathroom as being fun. Even dancing kind of sticks because it is often so packed! As for people, on a Thur-Sat night, the crowd is mainly college students and is very cliquey. Full of obnoxious frat and sorority members thinking they is a big deal, but have no clue how hard reality will hit them once they graduate. Athletes beware, the place is full of jersey chasers! When I do go to Blarneys, it is for the nightlife. I have eaten at Blarneys a few times and the food has been fine, nothing to rave about. read more

This may not be a fair assessment, because I'm actually reviewing this place like it's a normal establishment. In the end, this is a campus bar, and sooner or later drunk sorostitutes and douchey frat boys will make their way there. I went there to see a friend's band preform on a Friday night. The venue seemed nice, spacious and calm. The band was good, of course. Everything seemed normal and calm, like any nice laid-back pub. Then, like in Cinderella, the clock struck midnight, and the masses of insanely drunk college kids came in like someone was giving out free lobsters at a dorm's cafeteria. I know everyone says this, but seriously, I was not like THAT in college, and it's true. Some of the stuff I got to see, I could've lived without seeing again. I had seen enough of that years back. Not to mention witnessing a guy throwing up into his hands and throwing it on the floor. Just lovely, and something I could've lived without seeing. At least when normal people need to throw up at a bar, they find a trash can if they can't make it to the bathroom. Come on kids, it's not that hard! Like I said, this seemed like a decent place until those people came. And if at its worst, I can't imagine coming back again, I am likely not to go back. I'll stick to drunk people close to my age, who do stupid things I can more or less identify with. read more

We came out for a Saturday night with a small group. It seems like this is a go-to for many of the students so expect a busy space. Luckily we found a table to enjoy drinks then a spot on the dance floor. We enjoyed all the music that was playing but really wish they could put some fans inside. read more

Blarney, Blarney, Blarney... What can I say (/remember) of Blarney... Blarney is the typical college bar, and the bar that I always somehow end up at by 1:30 AM every weekend night. It's disgusting, yeah, but it's also fun when you're incredibly drunk. The much revered "Blarney shot" is a mix of crew de menthe, Baileys, and more gut-rotting liquors... But you should probably experience it at least once if you're a Minnesota student. Shots are expensive but rails and non craft beers are reasonable, even on weekends. Food... I'd pass on. I had the patty melt one time after a football game... Thought it was amazing. Then I had it sober and it wasn't. That's what alcohol will do to your taste, I guess. Although Mesa is still good sober. Go to Blarney on the weekend if you're a college student for the typical college experience. You only have four years to be this ridiculous... And it's always super fun talking for an hour about who knows what with people you hardly know and then seeing them in class the next day. One thing I'm PISSED about... they got rid of Sunday bottomless mimosas. There was seriously no better way to avoid Sunday homework than sitting on their patio and getting drunk off pitchers of cheap champagne and OJ. Bring 'em back, Blarnz! LONG LIVE BLARNEY! I was pretty hesitant about going to Blarney's for an unofficial meeting, but they ended up having some big wooden tables that were great for a group our size. The chairs and sofas nearby also looked like a great place to gather. The place seemed more warm and welcoming than I expected. This place wouldn't make a good spot to study though because they don't have Wi-Fi. Shocker! Everybody has internet options these days. So why give them 2 stars? Because our meeting was about 2 hours long and half way through she gave us our bills and collected payment from maybe half of us. The rest of us had to hunt her down when the meeting was over an hour later so that we could pay. She never came back, and it wasn't like the place was busy! The opposite, it was pretty dead when she dropped off our checks. It got busy right as we were trying to leave because tonight is the night of the Vikings game at TCF Stadium. It might pay to go back on a night with specials, but otherwise I say to hike downtown to the real Irish pubs. read more

This is a review of Blarney's Breakfast: Hungry Irishman's Breakfast: Irish sausage, rashers (thinly sliced ham), mashed potatoes topped with eggs over easy, and your choice of white or wheat toast. Mehhh. For $10 it was alright. The mashed potatoes were the highlight of the meal. The Irish "banger" was was too salty, I don't know where they get their meat but I was not a fan. Wait, or is that because of all the cheap beers and happy hour specials? Everything else is pretty standard. They don't call it "Blackout Blarnz" for nothing... Blarney is the place where everyone in Dinkytown ends up after drinking way too much with their friends. The atmosphere is quite lively due to the fact that half of the people there after 12 AM are close to blackout. My friends and I refer to it as "Blackout Blarney" because, well, that's why people go here. I suggest spending your time downstairs in the "taproom" on a weekend night. It is not quite as crowded and it will take you about half the time to get a drink as it would at the main bar. It's a fun atmosphere for a college student, but if you're looking for a classy establishment, I would not stop here. read more

This is the only five star place I have ever awarded. If you're Irish (or even if you're only Irish on St. Patty's day) stop by. Not only does it have the best bartenders in the city, it also has the best daily specials. Yes, many people think of this as a college bar, but just look around any day of the week, and you'll see people from all over the city. They come to eat the wing, Rubens, and most of all, meet these bartenders. It's a must any Tue-Thurs night, if not only for the live music, but to enjoy one of the best atmospheres in the city limits. Happy hour helps you save, but the music helps you enjoy. read more

I went here for a pre-Varsity dinner on a Sunday evening. I liked the comfy couches. They also had the windows open which was nice and provided a unique view and breeze which seems to be lacking at other Irish bars around the Twin Cities. The service was fair. (I think they might have been understaffed.) Their selection of cider is lacking (Strongbow and Angry Orchard are your choices). I had the fish and chips. The food was alright. The fries seemed a bit bland but they were still good. I couldn't eat my last piece of fish because I was so stuffed. I might return here for breakfast if I'm in the Dinkytown area. I wasn't here late at night so I can't vouch for the John Belushi-ness of U of M college students possibly getting out of control at this place. read more

The fish and chips and cheezy fries are pretty good, especially for a bar setting. This is considered the "expensive" bar in Dinkytown, meaning that actual drinks and shots might be around $5-6 not on special. It's also the last stop for the "Dinkytown Loop" meaning that it doesn't get very busy until after midnight, and in a matter of 15-30 minutes goes from calm to chaotic. If you don't like large crowds, this is not the place to go after 12:30am. The specials are pretty good, with limited drinks around $3 on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Also, ladies drink for free between 11pm and midnight on Wednesdays. This, on a weekly basis, results in at least a two-to-one gal to guy ratio. However, I have yet to see it bring in much of a crowd. Also a fair warning, there is a $5 minimum on cards. Final note, try a Blarney shot sometime. It'll be worth a try. read more

I went to tell the bouncer/security and he dad a fake half "sorry" disappointed and hurt to say the least. Bartender all said all tap for mug night than switched to only pbr when we came back. NEVER GO HERE. I was in no way reassured that I would be safe if I stayed in this bar. I wish he had asked me who said it, as if they would keep an eye on that person or IDEALLY remove them before a POC could be put in danger. Came from Los Angeles to watch the Vikings play and discovered this bar/restaurant. First of let me start of by saying UPTOWN they say is the place to go and for my people from Los Angeles, San Fran, and Miami, its like the same crap i see there, long lines, dress to impressed type deal with $$$ drinks, and finding parking felt as if I was in LA or Hollywood, but its good to go at least once. BUTT if you want to surround yourself with a younger crowd, chill environment, and less irritating. I would say dinky town would be funner as my personal opinion I found myself ending up their every night. Why? DRINKS: First of the drinks are good and low priced, I was getting $2.50 rail drink (for those from California rail drinks are the Well Drinks we see on our menus). Beers are no more than six bucks a pint for some good local beer. Some nights they even have two for one deals on drinks so you can double fist all night or margaritas for $3, $6 pitchers on Wednesday I think, etc. There's deals every night. I was getting a good buzz by the end of the night and my tab never exceeded $20 (except Friday I was pretty hammered but it didn't exceed $30). Also getting the drinks don't take long compared to other bars, they have waiters walking around and the bartenders are fast especially Tony, dude kept me hydrated like fish. FOOD: I believe Wednesday I got a bucket of wings for five bucks and it had like idk a crap load of wings, then I tried their nachos with potato chips and it was amazing they pile the ingredients on and it was delicious especially because in LA 99.9% of our nachos are Tortilla Chips. They also have deals on food and pizza too Crowd: OK this is where it gets tricky, but if you want to go when its packed its usually later on at night, but if you want to go and watch a game have drinks and eat in a calm environment where you can talk and get to know people and then slowly ease yourself into the fun I would say go later in the evening. But eventually this place ends up being the place to be especially when its Karaoke night or when the DJs there and the dance floor gets packed eventually. Also if it does get to packed and you want to go to a calmer area, there is a down stairs bar also with a pool table area and good space... But at the end of the day everyone ends up here. Staff: Better service than any of the bars in that area, its more of a mom and pop vibe so the staff and everyone is chill, plus they work . Service at other bars in that area ehhhhh.. TIPS: If you are an out of towner and don't know squat then you should download the parking meter app, arrive there at 9:15+, you only pay $1.25 a meter, meter enforcement is stopped after 10pm, so you get all night parking for $1.25 and if you do go between 9-10pm believe you will find a good spot. Any other bar is only a block away and once your done go eat pizza at mesa or meza its around the corner, get the mac and cheese and chicken bbq.... #DANK read more

Blarney's theme is that of an Irish pub and grill. It gives you the look outside. The inside appears a bit more woodsman and rustic. The Service was poor we were ignored the whole time we were there so perhaps we were missing something. The prices all around are pricey. This isn't that bad of a place if you have a rowdy group of people and you want to throw out somewhere fun. There is a bottom floor and an smaller second floor. The bottom is open giving plenty of room for standing and 'BSing' time for anyone who has a drink. The dance floor actually had a few people. Just a little ways away from the U of M you'll have your college crowd but I also noticed several older individuals mixed in so everything is right in the world. Not that bad of a place it still has potential to be better though. read more

I try not to get annoyed when I come into this bar, but I can't help it. I will hand it to the bartenders-they are pretty nice. But the drinks and food are overpriced. Don't go on a karaoke night because the host of it is probably the most annoying human being to walk the face of the earth. Constantly shouting, and when you mix that with drunk students thinking they are the next Gloria Gaynor on the mic, it doesn't make for a good combo. The service is bad and slow and it's not rare for the servers to just... forget you. I came here before a Gopher game for some breakfast and a few beers to warm up for the outdoor stadium. The corned beef hash was pretty good. It was a bit crowded but we ended up standing around a pub table right next to the server station. Our server was pretty bad. We had to wave him down several times to get him to stop at our table even though he walked right pass us every time he went to the register. I asked for Tabasco sauce and it never came. He apologized twice during the meal that he kept forgetting it but then he never brought it after the apologies. I also asked for water which came after another friendly reminder. As someone before me said it's all about who you meet there. The place itself is nothing special, and is very hit or miss. Some nights I'll have a great time there, and others I'm disapointed. We stopped on our bikes to have breakfast on Sunday. Breakfast is awful; oatmeal was a watery gruel. toast was cold with excess butter smeared on it. This was the worst breakfast I have every had. The waitress asked us how our food tasted and we told her it was awful and her response was "I'm sorry." That was it. Actually the worst whiskey ginger I have ever had. I asked if they used real ginger ale because some bars don't, which is fine but after I asked the bartender maintained that they used real ginger ale. He said it came straight out of the bag shortly after that. No wonder why it tasted so bad! Real ginger ale can't come from a bag duhhhhh carbonation doesn't work that way! I am offering a more current review of Blarney. My husband and I went there yesterday for the first time along with my son and his girlfriend before the Guinness Soccer Cup game. It was packed, and yes, it clearly is a favorite watering hole for the Gopher age crowd as demonstrated by the classically sticky floor. It was noisy and boisterous, but the building is large, high-ceilinged and very open, so it was not a distraction, but added to the atmosphere. I have eaten at plenty of low to mid to high priced establishments and I would rate the food as good to excellent given the nature of what it is - BAR food, typical burgers, sandwiches, fries. Perhaps on a student budget, students would want either more quantity (hard for me to believe given the amounts that showed up on our plate) or are looking for prices more in the Chipotle $8 range. However, this is a sit-down service at your table establishment, so I found the prices to be reasonable at around $10 a plate. The waffle fries were generous, crispy, not oversalty - EXCELLENT and enough for 3 people to share. The club sandwich was generously tiered, stuffed, well presented and tasty. The burgers were somewhat well done for our taste, but definitely not overly greasy, the bun was toasted and fresh and came with its own generous side of fries, deli spear, tomato and lettuce. Given the circumstances with the huge crowd, our waitress was attentive, hard-working, and explained right upfront that the kitchen was backed up - so if we wanted to order food, it most likely would not come in time for us to make the game on time. It was also my first time sampling 2Gingers whiskey. Blarney offers a creative menu of concoctions themed around 2Gingers whiskey. I ordered to the 2Gingers with gingerale and it was well prepared with the right ratio of alcohol (2 shots), ice to ginger ale. I am looking forward to ordering it again. read more
