It's definatly worth getting the BYO pizza since you get to choose from 10 types of cheese, 4 types of sauce, and 30 veggie and meat toppings. They also have Tapatio sauce, Tabasco, and red pepper near the drink section, so all you spicy lovers should top them off on the pizza~ My personal favorite is the pizza with spicy red sauce, mozzarella and ricotta cheese, ham, bacon, italian sausage, and most of the veggies, yes I'm one of those annoying customers who puts on like all the toppings. :P Service could be slow during peak times, so I recommend avoiding lunch or dinner hours if you are in a rush. Blaze is a solid 3.5 at least for me, but I'm rounding up to 4 because I like Blaze. I really do. As many people have said before, Blaze is one of those "Chipotle of pizzas" type places. Or if we're going more retro, it's the "Subway of pizzas." Essentially, it's a "choose your own adventure" pizza where you're in the driver's seat and get to pick everything that goes on your pizza-- from the sauce to the cheese to whatever toppings your little heart desires. CRUST: They do offer a gluten free crust, which is nice for those with dietary restrictions. SAUCE: Red sauce, white sauce, pesto. And you're free to mix and match. CHEESE: Choices for cheese, include of course, mozzarella, parmesan, ricotta, mozzarella balls, and goat cheese. TOPPINGS: I don't think I can list all the topping options because there's just too many I would forget. There's plenty of options for meat-- pepperoni, sausage, bacon, grilled chicken, ham etc. Also plenty of veggie options-- artichokes, arugula, banana peppers, basil, bell peppers, jalapeños, mushrooms, olives, pineapple, red onions, spinach. And roasted garlic, yum! The only caveat with toppings is you have to make sure you don't overload your pizza, otherwise... troubles. Your masterpiece pizza creation gets popped into the oven and come out a few minutes later ready to eat. My friend told me that I need to include this special tidbit: one thing that they do at Blaze which they apparently don't do as often at other pizza places is they scrape off the burnt parts of your crust before giving you your pizza. Apparently they also serve beer and wine here, in case that sways your decision. AMBIANCE: This Blaze location has a really nice open space with plenty of dining space inside and a few tables outside as well. I've only ever been here during off hours, but apparently it can get pretty busy and a line forms pretty quickly. PRICE: It seems like the price for the "Build Your Own" pizza has gone up a little bit, but at $8.25, this is still on par with other BYO pizza places and is still a pretty darn good price to pay. tl;dr: I feel like it's pretty hard to go wrong with a create-your-own pizza place. My husband and I come here at least once a week. The lines can get long but it's worth the wait. The employees are like busy worker bees. I have never been to a pizza place where they hustle as fast as them. One employee that stands out is Dave. He is always friendly and already knows our order. I have never had a burnt pizza and if I did I'm sure they would remake it if it was brought to their attention. The gluten free crust is the best I've had from any pizza place. The pizza is really good and not greasy. My granddaughters 7th birthday was yesterday and this is where she wanted to have dinner. Great tasting pizza, made to order, for a great price. This place is always busy so order online to save time. You bypass the line when you arrive, check in at the grill, and that's when they pop in your pre made pizza. The one possible downside is that you don't get to see how much they put on beforehand. If you don't order online, you go down the row of sauces, cheeses, and toppings and tell them what you want. This way you control exactly what and how much goes on. Then your pizza is popped into the oven and comes out fresh and piping hot shortly after. Six slices per pizza, for me that's enough to split between two people for only $8 a pizza. You can pay more for a high rise crust, but at $2 I don't think it's that noticeable and recommend skipping that. I prefer this pizza crust to Pieology. I was in Davis for a meeting and we decided to try Blaze for lunch. The food was not very good and the service was horrible. We came in a little before noon and I thought they had just opened because they were trying to get everything situated. At first, i was okay with the first five "We'll be with you in a minute." We were the only people in the restaurant and we continued to be told that they would be with us in a minute. i realized that they were working on phone/internet orders and were too busy to help the people actually in the restaurant. They had been open for almost two hours already. At one point, I thought I was about to give my order, but she just walked away with no explanation. Just a couple more "we'll be with you in a minutes." When they finally decided to help us after more "we'll be with you in a minutes" they were rude and unprofessional. The lady that was barking the orders was the worst. It felt like I was asking a teenager to do their chores. They were not very helpful. The rest of my party felt the same way. The good: fast, fresh, hot, build your own. Because I control what goes on the pizza, I'm always happy with the topping situation. I personally like thin crust and wood fired so for me, the crust is pretty tasty. The not so good: spicy red isn't spicy, drink options are meh, dessert option is terrible and salads are not appetizing to the eye. I really wish the spicy red was actually spicy. It would just make the pizza so much better. I really hate that I have to go next door to starbucks for a drink and somewhere else completely if I want dessert. Don't be shy about how many toppings you want to add onto your pizza! -- FOOD -- - Green Stripe Pizza: This is my usual go-to! If you love the taste of melted mozzarella on chicken, roasted red bell peppers, chopped garlic. After baking, they top it all off with arugula and drizzle pesto (hence the green stripe). Sometimes I swap out a few of the toppings, add extra meat, etc to my current cravings (I've obviously visited Blaze a bit too many times lol. Went here on PI day and i made a mistake, because the line was out the door and the wait was 1 hr. The inside was kind of big with lots of community tables. They have a great patio as well but it was not the day to sit there and being stared at by all the hungry people in lines. Lots of people took their food togo and enjoy it somewhere nice on campus or downtown area. I took mine over to Starbucks which was next door to it. The pizza was packed with lots of ingredients. The pizza maker wouldn't give me crazy amount when i said to go crazy on it. I just said 3 or 4 more hand full of it please. lol... oh there is no shame when i want it the way i want it. lol.... The pizza was ready quite quick. went to the condiment bar and sprinkle a little bit of this and that and i was ready to grub! Washed it down with Starbucks which was next door over. Blaze pizza is the best tasting pizza for its price. Their $8 unlimited toppings 12" pizza is definitely the best value of the menu. It was also big enough to fill me up for dinner. Basically for $8 you get a crust, as much cheese as you want, and as many toppings as you want. I think all the pizzas were thin crust, which I appreciated. The menu says that their pizzas only take 3 minutes to cook and I wasn't timing it or anything but it felt more like 5 or 6 minutes, which is still really fast to cook a pizza! How can you go wrong with pizza and UNLIMITED toppings w/ flat-rate price! BLAZE has a PIZZA-my-heart :P Blaze is a different pizza joint as you get pick and choose with what you'd like for your pizza. There's a BYO (build your own) option or get the pre-made style ones. I recommend BYO since you get to add whatever please. There's different sauces (wish they had herb-butter like pieology) meats, and veggies that you would normally have on your pizza. The more toppings you add though, the heavier the pizza gets and gets kinda sloppy to eat. BUT hey, you can't go wrong with extra toppings! There's at least 4-6 workers that make the order and topping-choosing process go by quick. Don't be afraid to ask for more of a topping as they sometimes skimp on ya. After you're done, the pizza gets "blazed" for about 3 minutes. Sometimes the pizza gets a bit burnt. After sauces are aaaaaamaazing! I usually get half pesto/half BBQ. I recommend coming here if you're looking for a quick personal meal as you could easily finish one box by yourself in one sitting! It's also a chill hang out spot to just wine down and relax. We came in on Picnic day, a day after their first day, and it was super nice in here. Employees are super friendly, and the prices aren't bad at all. Our pizza was about 8 bucks and it was able to feed 2 people. You can basically build your own pizza and put whatever you want on it, but I didn't want to think about it too much so we chose two styles of the signature pizza. We went with half green stripe (pesto, chicken, red peppers, garlic, mozzarella, arugala) and half white top (white sauce, mozzarella, bacon, garlic, oregano, arugula). The lemonade/blood orange lemonade is also super tasty. Be sure to add some sprite to it, and you've got an awesome drink. Once they finish putting together your pizza, they cook your pizza extremely fast (about 3 minutes) and you're good to go. The pesto was awesome here, and I also savored the goat cheese. The personal sized pizza is decently sized and you can always To-Go whatever's left in the To-Go boxes placed beside the drink refill station. So I am an avid BBQ-sauce-all-over-my-pizza kinda person, and that's how I ask. As you might notice, when you reach the base sauce section, that there's no BBQ option. Don't worry, you can still ask for it. They usually keep the BBQ sauce at the end for those who like to drizzle it on the pizza after its done in the oven! I've asked for BBQ sauce as my base twice, and it has not been a problem for them. You can also get other sauces like tomato, pesto, and white sauce. I tried the single topping once and it's much more worth it to pay $2 more and all the other toppings. The ingredients are pretty good quality and they have a great selection: I add stuff like ricotta, Italian sausage, chicken, bell peppers, garlic cloves, caramelized onions, tomatoes, spinach, and barbecue sauce drizzle at the end. I love blaze. They seriously have the best fast pizza. But lately they haven't been able to keep up with their orders. I was waiting patiently in line and it was busy. That's fine. But I get to the front where I was about to give her my order. Instead the worker decides to fill the 4 online orders (they used to have a separate table for this) I wait. Blaze is definitely one of my go to places in Davis. If you prefer thin crust pizza this is the place to be at. The price at Blaze beats any other pizza place for the amount of food you get. Honestly you could share one pizza between two people but you could probably eat the entire thing yourself. I always do the build your own pizza, they also offer pizzas off their menu board but you might as well customize your own for the same price. You can pile on as many toppings as you want on it! They have all the meat and veggie toppings you could ever want as well as a variety of cheeses. I tend to stick with the classic red sauce with a pesto drizzle. The wait at Blaze can be long depending on the time you go. I have the line to the door plenty of times, if you're looking to be in and out then I would avoid busy lunch and dinner hours. The service isn't my favorite. It's mostly younger people who are students and customer service doesn't really seem to be a priority. They're more focused on one another than the customers and I've noticed this on more than one occasion. The seating at Blaze is community style. They have long tables with stools on both sides so you basically sit where there is room, usually next to other people. You get to build your own personal pizza with all the toppings your little heart desires for a total of 7.75! Yes believe it! All the toppings you want. No I don't mean they lay out all the cheeses and only let you pick one type of cheese, you can pick all of them same with meat and same with veggies and sauces, of course. Your pizza masterpiece is thrown into this super hot oven for 180 seconds and out comes a deliciously cooked pizza. They always have someone cleaning and greeting the guests which is awesome and I love that they are truly genuine about it. Specifically today 6/29 I went with my fiancé and we got one pizza to share. What couldn't of been a horrible experience turned out into one where the workers there saved the day. For some reason (it didn't seem like it was the guy who was pulling out the pizzas fault) the pies were coming out extremely burnt, not crispy but burnt!
