The Blue Tangerine In Hampstead was the worst experience by the owner!!!!!!! I made an appointment for my daughter for a haircut who is 10. I checked the online prices, which went up 28.95. So I go in and ask if the wash is included she says of course. I told her several times she needs a good trim but due to her super curly frizzy hair it can't be to short I want it to not sit on her shoulders. I said I want it to be near her shoulder. She said ok. I said because she needs to wear it up and it gets really frizzy when it's short. After several times she said ok I looked and she said u mind if I texture which she just layered it. I said ok and at no point did she say it's 10.00 more and I didn't ask because never, not even myself have gotten an extra charge of 10.00 to layer and she should of said it specially since that she is the owner!!! Let's just say its above her shoulders, I can't put it up and it's super frizzy and puffy!!!! I know it will grow but I'm upset!!! Not only the part of not being up front about it, but my daughter has her last father daughter dance this Saturday!! I just want to warn everyone to ask even if u think it's a crazy question and it was not even a good job, specially with curly hair or listening to directions. I wouldn't call what I got a manicure. The girl who did my nails, did an ok job- as in my nails are painted now. There was no soaking of any sort before she began pushing back cuticles. No lotion was used at any time. No rubbing, relaxing or manicuring was done whatsoever. She simply filed and painted my nails. The gel process was fine but I left with paint under my nails and on my skin, my nails are still rough to the touch, and they are shaped like sea shells- wide on top and narrow at the cuticle. I should have spoken up, but I felt bad. The girl was clearly new to this and the salon did a poor job of training her. She was sweet and I think she did her best with the tools (lack thereof) that she was given. Speaking of tools, she pulled hers out of what appeared to be her personal toiletry bag- not the clearly sanitized plastic ones you would hope for. For $36 I expected hot towels, soapy water, neck rub, and scented lotion. What I got was a sloppy polish and nail clean up. They did give me 20% off for being a first time customer- unfortunately for them I will be a one time customer. read more

Not good!! 3rd time for mani/pedi. First 2 were really good, but 3rd time was bad!! Seemed like tech was not comfortable and maybe new at nails. My nails were not evenly cut and filed, polish on the outside of my toenails and I asked for my fingernails to be buffed up shiny instead of polish, but I'm certain she didn't know what I was asking for because it didn't happen. Service I went in for was not received, asked for partial was given and charged a full foil price..... never was told the toner I got and didn't ask for was an additional cost..... application FAIL.... my hair cut is unfortunately noticeably uneven... I called the next day to say how unhappy I was.... said next time we will root touch up???! Honestly how???? I had a shellac manicure yesterday. The technician was very pleasant and did a nice job. My concern is that when I went to pay for the manicure at the front desk I was charged an additional $10.50 for polish removal. No where in the brochure or website could I find any mention of this additional charge. This only the 2nd time I have had a shellac manicure so was surprised but this additional charge. I do think clients should be aware that the actual cost of the manicure is $47.50, not the $37.50 that the brochure and website state. read more

I found this spa through a town moms page on Facebook. I'm heavily pregnant and the matron of honor in a wedding so I needed to have my nails professionally done. I had a bad experience at a previous nail salon that was traumatic so I was nervous to have a mani pedi but I knew I couldn't do it myself. I was so comfortable the whole time. It was nice to have time away from home so I didn't mind how long I was there and had great conversation. My nails came out great and I feel so refreshed and ready for the wedding. First off I want to say, this is such a beautiful salon. I had my hair roots colored, balayage, cut and styled by Kaitlin and had an amazing experience. She's so sweet, caring, and thoughtful but most importantly she listened to exactly what I wanted to see in my end result and she delivered exactly that! I'm so happy to have found someone like her so close to home. I have been needing to find someone closer to my location for a very long time, as I used to drive into the Boston area, while stopping to drop off my toddler to someone for care and yeh whole process would take me all day. Went with 2 friends for a mani-pedi trip. We all agree we will not go back. A simple mani-pedi with 2 of us going at the same time took OVER THREE HOURS. The women that provided the service were nice enough, and the place was certainly quite clean. We even watched them re-clean their tools during our service. But three hours was ridiculous. To make matters worse, the service was inconsistent at best. During my pedicure, she massaged one leg, not the other. She applied the wrong color polish to my friend. The shellac French manicure one of my friends done was amateurish at best. The white tip was uneven and gloppy. By the end of the day it was already chipped. On my plain-old basic one-color pedicure, the color wasn't even applied evenly so I've got one big toe where it looks like she applied polish to my nail while it was still wet - like the polish didn't even take. I can do a better job on my own toes after 2 glasses of wine. It sure would be better than paying $57 + tip for a crummy job. So I'm giving it 2 stars: 1 because it was very clean and the other because the nail tech was easy going about fixing a nail that my friend smudged before we left the salon. I could easily have given it 1 star but I'm feeling generous today. read more

I have been a client for awhile now. The color is good,but have not always been pleased with the cut. I like the salon, the decor and the location. But my last appt. last night will be my last. My appt. was at 6:00pm and I didn't get out of there til 9:30pm. when I booked the appt. I told the receptionist I wanted a root touch up, and low lights and a cut. He only did the root touch up, because he advised me that I didn't need it. And when I told him how I wanted it cut, he did it totally different then what I wanted. I HATE the cut and will never return again. I feel like he just wanted to do it his way and didn't do the low lights because he just wanted to get out of there!! The cut and color I received from this salon was embarrassing. Both the color and the cut were applied so unevenly I question the sobriety of the hairdresser. The layers were choppy, obvious, and random. The color was incredibly uneven, blotchy, and spotty. One side of my head has more highlights than the other. One section of hair is really blond at the top and bottom, but brown in the middle, not evenly colored all the way through as it should be. It is going to cost me an incredible amount of money to fix this hair. If you're going to go to this salon, understand they rush you (and themselves) out of the chair and do a half-you-know-what job in the process. No good. read more

Absolutely disgusted. I had a facial I totally enjoyed and the woman talked me into purchasing the facial products Colin. A travel set costs 40.00 dollars. I purchased it and used it for a few weeks to test it. My face reacted to the product with redness and irritation and so, I stopped using it. I tried to return the product and kindly asked for my money back as the product that was suggested didn't work with my skin type. The receptionist and owner told me that they don't take returns on any products once they are opened. Apparently, they don't want my business because I won't be returning back for a massage, facial or hair business. It is very disappointing to experience this as a professional business owner should accept that some products won't work out for all people and they should stand by their products. I really wanted to love it here. 5 minutes from my house, average prices, and Deva (curly dry haircutting technique) certified. I scheduled a consultation for the haircut, and when the appointment came the stylist asked 'do you want just a trim?' I responded 'I heard you were Deva certified, I need a Deva cut.' We talked about my hair for a few minutes and all was well. She lightly fingercombed through my hair (arrggh!) and conservatively cut about an inch with some layering. Initially I liked the cut, but now as it is growing out, not so much. I've had Deva cuts in the past, and this wasn't the same, each individual curl is supposed to be strategically cut, and I don't see how this is accomplished with finger combed hair. As I said I initially liked the cut, and returned for color a week later. I was on time but sat at the color bar for 45 minutes past my appointment start time, as she was busy working on another client. We even called the day before to confirm we would have enough time because I have a lot of hair, and my appointments take longer than expected. They told me 'yes' and even scheduled an extra 15 minutes. The styling at the end was almost non existent and the hood dryer made a mess of my hair. FWIW, I love the color, and still do 2 months later, but I'll be returning to my salon in Andover or Beverly. read more

I always leave happy with my cut and I love the girl who cuts my hair. But the last time I was there, I heard gossiping between a stylist and her client. The content of the talk was not appropriate and both the stylist and client were being very loud and inconsiderate. My stylist did her best to stay out of their conversation which I was pleased by. I do not think it is professional to have a stylist gossiping along with her client and using rude language loud enough to hear throughout the salon. I hesitate to return because I look forward to not only a professional haircut, but a professional atmosphere. I am beginning to think that this place is driving away from professional. read more

I went in for a manicure, pedicure, and to get my hair done... and I can easily say that my hair looked the best it had in years.. 110% the best hair cut I've ever gotten. I want to love it here. The decor is fun, the staff friendly. But each time I leave, I can't believe what a haircut cost. I always feel over charged. After my 12 year old got a cut, I was told there was an extra $20.00 for the special technique they used. Really? I wasn't told there would be an extra charge and was planning on her being charged the youth rate. I was also charged for a special technique. Again? Why isn't this mentioned before the snazzy cut is done? Can they just charge a fee for a wash, cut and blow dry? Today. Was my first visit to this spa. In February I received a gift card intended for a massage. When I called to book an appointment I was told that they did not have a massage therapist. As I was not informed of this prior to my purchase I asked for a refund so I could get a massage elsewhere and was told NO. Here it is June and they still don't have a therapist so I used my gift card for other services rather than throw $100 away. First I had a wash/cut/ blow dry which seems ok. I'll know better in a few days after I dry it myself. Then I had a 30 minute facial as that was all they had time for. I feel like it was tossing $57 in a trash barrel. They put a few cleansers and lotions on my face. They steamed it for a few minutes, then put another lotion on. The technician just sat at my head between each thing. There is no massage of any type during this rushed 30 minutes. For that kind of money you'd expect them to offer a scalp or neck massage while the lotion is on your face rather than just sit there. Total waste of time/ money...nothing relaxing or special about it. My face actually feels dry, not moisturized at all. They don't do any kind of mask. I could go elsewhere and get an amazing 60 minute facial for $70. read more

I called this morning to book an appointment for a cut and eyebrow wax. The woman over the phone was so nice I wanted to hug her through the phone! The actual appointment? Even better! The establishment is clean, open, and inviting. I only waited a few minutes before taking the chair. Being an introvert, social interactions scare me a little. However, Stylist Krysten was a GEM! Her personality is bright, her attentiveness to my requests was amazing, and her work was magnificent. For what I thought was *just* a cut and wax? No, she made the experience enjoyable and relaxing. My hair looks and feels beautiful, and my eyebrows (which were in serious need of TLC) are perfect to my face shape. I was hesitant to try this salon after reading the reviews, but I live in town and had been driving all over the state trying to find a salon that could give me a decent haircut. I have very thick yet fine hair, and I like it short. I have told countless hairdressers how I'd like it cut, but it never seems to come out quite right. I went to Carol (the owner) and got the best cut I've had since I stopped gong to Newbury Street in Boston. I've only had the cut for 3 days, so I'll post an update if my feelings change, but I can not recommend her enough, especially if you have "difficult" hair like me. I got a full treatment including massage with the exfoliation of my feet and legs and another full massage with moisturizer. As mentioned by others, the place was over the top on cleanliness and friendliness. I enjoyed the massage chair while my feet were wrapped in heated towels. I have been going to this Salon for close to a year. I have had the best mani/pedis here. I have gone to other high end salons in the area for a number of years and felt the work at those salons were ok. Here I am very satisifid, have a mani/pedi about each month. I have a shellac every other month or so. Also, for some of the time I have been going here, I had a hard cervical collar/brace on, as a result of cervical surgery. I had mentioned how uncomfortable it was for me to do my own shampoos, I was told I could have a free shampoo anytime I needed one----with or without any apts. scheduled. Just come in and no charge. How great is that! (I did give the young lady a tip. I only wanted shampoo, no blow dry, etc.) In fact, I did stop in once with no apt for anything to have done, just to have the shampoo. Free, no charge. I just arrived home from a mani/pedi and wanted to look up their telephone number to reschedule my next apt. I saw this review section and wanted to put my two cents in. I have, once again, great looking nails. My feet feel wonderful. They look great. I have aways been taken at my scheduled time. Never a problem at all. I have never used other services that they offer. I am considering other services. I am dropped of for my apts and picked up, since I don't drive at this time. I have been there 1/2 hr. early, and sometimes left a 1/2 after I was finished. I never heard any employee talk in a rude or offensive manner. I find the service here excellent. I have watched quite a few women check out and their hair looked great. I consider myself a fussy person. I never would have gone back so many times if I wasn't happy. By the way, I have had 3 different young ladies do my mani/pedis and all were excellent. Got great service. I would give them a try! p.s. I am not a relative!! read more

She was extremely accommodating, and so understanding of my concerns. She really helped to make the whole experience better, she did an outstanding job. I am originally from MA and have had a hard time finding a salon since moving to NH-This is a really great place. Everyone is so professional and so nice and they do outstanding work. I went to this salon because it was the only one around me open on a Monday. I had to get my hair colored back to my natural brown because I leave for basic training in 7 days. I let her know that's all I needed done and why. I had platinum blonde hair so she told me I needed to do a color correct which is listed at 85-114 dollars I believe and she said it should be around that price. Okay after dying it she asked if I wanted the ends trimmed because it was very dry. I said yes that's fine I just want to keep the length as long as possible. Which my hair isn't very long maybe 2 inches past my shoulders and it need to go back in a bun for basic. She proceeds to cut it right above my shoulders and put in choppy layers when I said no layers. I don't even understand why she would think it was a good idea in the first place. And they aren't nice layers. Completely choppy and uneven on my left side some go as high as above my ear and the right side is much longer. If looking at it from the back it choppy and super uneven it looks like a choppy wave. Now my hair not all fit back into a bun and it's extremely frustrating to have to use about 30 bobby pins and hair spray to secure it all back when I grew my hair to the length before because I knew it worked for it. It's extremely frustrating went I spent almost 300 dollars on something that looks like a 10 year old did it. I didn't want a new "hairstyle" just back to brown and a trim. I made it very clear. Even if I wasn't going into basic I cannot wear my hair down. I'm so insecure about it. It looks absolutely horrible. I'm grateful I don't have to worry about what I look like and it will always be back for the next few months. Over horrible experience I feel like I was walked over because I'm younger and she didn't care at all about what I wanted and just did her own thing. I will never go back and regret it all. And the last time i went she was busy servicing another customer AT THE SAME TIME. after my wash she left me in a chair with towel dried hair (a mess!) and went to do the other lady's eyebrows! Ya, i don't think so. I was there 2 1/2 hours for color and cut and it cost nearly 200 with tip ( with no highlights), I"m sorry but the service was not good. I really wanted to like this salon. It looks so cute and it is close to my house. I have been going to the same stylist for 15 years and moved to NH. I have a somewhat short...funky cut. I had recently had a baby and let my hair go and was dying to have my hair back! I had gone a bit darker and wanted to go blonde. The stylist explained that I couldn't go blonde in one visit....which is a lie. I have gone from brown to very light blonde in one visit. I change my hair color several times a year. The stylist kept commenting the entire time about how amazing my hair was going to look. Like went on and on. The cut took forever!!! I am all for relaxing and getting away but this was absurd. She finally turns me around and......my hair looked no different after 3 hours and 45 minutes. I was so disappointed and just wanted to get out of there. Plus the whole time I was in her chair her and another stylist bad mouthed other stylists. I now make the drive back to Massachusetts. read more

I am not too fussy about my hair, I got a gift cert for a cut there so i decided to try, we decided on a color swatch (light reddish-blonde) and 125 dollars and 3 hours later, I left as a brunette, I was NOT HAPPY but was running out of time so, i figured I'd give it a couple of days, I went back a few days later and she said they could fix it for me, I went back the next day, pulled out the same swatch was told it could be fixed, so i spent yet ANOTHER 3 hours there was CHARGED 65 dollars for THIER SCREW UP (but she gave me a "break on the toner" (yeah right) and said it would be an easy upkeep and cheap (75 dollars a pop) to maintain, bottom line is this I spent 6 hours and 200 dollars for something Im STILL NOT HAPPY with, I will NEVER EVER EVER go back again- to re-charge me for thier f'up is INSANE. read more

I should have trusted my gut instict the first time I was there about a year ago...Hair and color have been okay up until this last time....Turned my hair red when NOT supposed to be and owner tried to tell me it was not....Not to mention she would not let me get a word in edge wise. The stylist was sweet and agreed color not what I wanted. I waited a few days and washed and conditioned as told to do and red would wash out...no such luck. To make it worse, we had family photos scheduled for a few days later which needless to say we did not do. I called to get a refund on the color portion only...not the cut, and was told too bad, come in and I'll fix your hair by putting more product in it... I nicely said I was not comfortable with that and owner could have cared less. My mother, my daughter and I will not be returning as clients.
