I'm not as much of a fan of this location as I was of their old one - the aisles seem taller and the store seems smaller, but I could be wrong. It just seems really crowded. I miss the "art store" feel of the old location. The layout seems pretty sterile, but hopefully the store will "dirty up" over time. I was slightly annoyed by the cashier - she double charged me for a pen, which I had to bring to her attention, and she did not seem to know how to process a gift card. This review is for my sister and I's shopping experience, specifically staff who made the experience less than pleasant. The store is conveniently located right by my work. I had never had stopped in to see what materials they carried, as I regularly purchase my writing implements and other mediums online. They have a decent selection of pens for the purpose of my visit - picking up pens for my pen and stationery exchange recipient. The place was organized. I immediately found the pens and markers section, even if it was my first time stopping by this store. They carried the brands that I have trusted and used in the past. They also had a "house" brand that was surprisingly good, price wise. In the end, I decided to go with the Blick brand. What took me a while was the color selection process. The time I dedicated to examine the product probably alarmed some of the store associates who were "on to us" during our entire stay at the store. And so to get back on track, this review is for the people working there. I did not like the feeling of being watched. This feeling did not leave me the entire time I was exploring the store and testing out pens. I felt harassed and hurried to finalize my purchase given the number of times I was asked if I needed help with anything, even after I declined help. My sister told me that she has never had this experience in any other art store. Even shopping closer towards the store's closing time (we got there at around 6:20ish), does not even justify this pressure. This level of distrust towards potential customers was extremely uncalled for, especially since I had hoped to do away with my online purchases for items I need right away (location really a plus). I would have really like to get my art medium purchases locally. But unless this location remedies this behavior towards customers, I would opt to access the online store just to avoid the unnecessary attention. read more

So brief explanation: Blick's web prices are always really good, but sometimes you want to pick up some supplies fast. The brick-and-mortar shop claims to match prices, but there's a catch. (Two, actually.) I went to the retail shop with my wife last year to pick up some watercolor supplies. We picked out a bunch of stuff, and price-checked both Amazon and the Blick website as we went. If the price on Blick's site was lower, we would buy the item in the store and ask for the price match. Most of our chosen items WERE cheaper on the website. When we got to checkout, we asked for the price match, and were given it. On the way out to the car, however, I noticed that the prices did NOT match, so I went back in to ask about it. THE CATCH - Their price-matching policy includes estimated shipping charges on all of your items! 1) Why am I paying for shipping when I drove to your store in person to buy things? Why can't you just match the prices like every other retailer in the world who claims to do so? In fact, most other retailers allow you to order online and pick up in store without paying any shipping either, because they know they don't get charged for their own restocking orders! 2) The employee acted like this was my fault for not knowing how it works. It's bad enough that you have to know to ask for "matching" but then you don't even actually match prices! We will not be returning to this store again. read more

Looked at all the craft/supplies stores by my house for matboard to no avail. Walked in today in a frenzy because I'm on a deadline. I was instantly greeted with a smile and offers to help me look for what I needed. Girl in the back helped me with what I needed, girl up front helped me with their preferred card sign up and saved a few dollars on top of it. Walked out in less than 10 minutes after wasting half my afternoon driving to those other stores. I won't make that mistake again. I'll come to Blick for my art needs next time. This was my first time shopping at Blick's, and it will not be my last. They have so many products that it's hard to know where to start. Today, I was looking for coloured pens and pencils, and I wasn't disappointed. My only complaint was that a good many of the Prismacolor soft lead pencils were out-of-stock and have been so since Christmas. Since I was shopping for pencils and markers, I really didn't take a closer look at the rest of their stock, but they seemed to be well-stocked with different types of paper, canvases, colouring books all manner of art supplies. Now, as for feeling like I was being watched... Not at all! The two gentlemen running the store were very courteous. I was asked once if I needed help finding anything, and until I asked for help, they left me to my own devices. When I DID ask for assistance, one of them was right there, helped me find what I needed, then retired behind the counter. I will definitely be shopping here again. :) read more

During the time of precautions to prevent pandemic virus spread, looking for various art supplies can be a challenge. The staff at this store are very fast, well-informed and helpful in finding and ordering for curbside pickup. Curbside pickup is probably best, in part because this reviewer usually comes out of the store with an armload of other things in addition to the original needed items. Nicely done, folks! read more

I live 3 hours away so when I go shopping here it takes me 2-3 hours to get through all the aisles, maybe more. This is not a craft store. It is geared toward the artist, amateur to professional. My review is the opposite of what some may think of this place. I used to like it somewhat at their older location they would always come up to me and help out. Now at the new location employees keeping talking away at the registers with other employees and dont provide attention to customers. There should be at least 1 or 2 people minimum dedicated to walking the aisle and helping people out. The employees at blick look like a cross between 30 year olds working a dead end job and wanting to have a social party with each other rather than going to work. This sat in my head thinking wow these people get paid to sit around stare at customers, talk about random things all day and not approach or come up to help customers? Sounds like a really easy job. But for a customer I think thats pretty rude and surprising the manager would allow that. I did have one girl who politely came to me and helped me with my questions twice the first she came to me the second I had to go to the registers where she was comfortably chatting away and then she raced back to the conversation as soon as she was done helping me. Sure its easy to talk to employees on the job and get paid I guess some people would if they know they could but I don't think thats a proper way to handle business and I think blick would be great if they could go back walking the aisles asking people if they need help. The blick employees are polite people but the socializing thing is a little rude and uncaring to customers needs. You can socialize all you want at lunch or when you don't have customers in your store! This is one of the reasons I don't support or buy from blick anymore I have to walk back and forth the aisles to employees who seem not very concerned or aware that they work in a store. I generally just try their stuff and buy online which is an extra step but fine for me. On a end note I would highly recommend shopping at Michaels during the holidays they have some amazing 50% discounts for all your art needs and they always have people walking around and willing to help you out. I rarely ever see anyone of them chatting away with other employees they are diligently working hard. I have respect for them. read more

Called ahead first to make sure they had a product we needed. There was a friendly greeting and they were able to help us out. We made the drive out there and found the product immediately. I will say its a bummer that online pricing is cheaper than going into the store and they don't honor online prices (I get its because it doesn't factor in shipping costs but a lot of places will still give you a discount for actually visiting their location in person) but oh well, just five bucks. i live in the bay area but i am visiting a friend who lives in elk grove. I am obsessed with Copic markers currently as i make crafts with alcohol inks and have found that the copic markers work perfectly. I am hoping to find the refill cartridges rather than just the markers. But i did a Google search last night and came across this store. One of the photos shows a HUGE display of copic markers and the price is beyond reasonable! In the bay, one marker costs $9. At Blick it appears that if you buy 6, the cost per marker is $5.24. Not only did they have all the markers that were shown on their website, but they carry the refill cartridges as well. They also carry their own line for less than $3 a marker. I ended up going crazy and bought way to many copics but i will put them to go use! read more

I normally buy my art supplies at their online store, so I was very excited when my sister and I found a storefront somewhat close to home! It is a much better experience than other big art stores, and they carry a huge selection of what I am always looking for. It would be nice if their copic selection restocked more often but I know copics are a high demand marker, and it is difficult to keep them regularly stocked. The staff were very nice and helpful, and let me do my own thing while still being attentive to my questions and presence. Their prices are nice too, lower than some other stores. The only thing I would like is if it became more cozy, it feels a bit too cold and organized. Art is messy and while I know stores should be clean, a little bit off art mess makes an art store more comfortable. And that's just me being nitpicky, this store is great!!! read more
