This is such an incredible store. I learned from the general manager today that it's the last professional art supply store in the Central Valley. They have a wonderful selection--everything from canvases to clay supplies and of course painting supplies. Today we picked up new oil pastels on a great deal of $2.49 each if you buy 6 or more. We also selected some of their value packs of canvases (although they also sell individual canvases) and a wide variety of paints. Something I love about this store is that several times a year, they select a nonprofit to run a donation drive for. You can buy items they put on a shelf for the nonprofit and the items go directly to that agency. It is so nice to see stores organizing for the community! read more

They were in stock. Got to the cash register and the tag price was $17 each. We saw the same tubes on the Blick website for $8 each. Showed the webpage to the cashier. She punched in some codes on the point of sales machine. We got the discounted price. So sign up for a Blick customer loyalty account and enjoy the lower prices. read more

Such a lovely specialty store. It beats going to Michael's or Hobby Lobby and *hoping* they have what you're looking for. Blick is perfect for all your artsy fartsy needs from students to an at home project. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable. They do an excellent job of checking in to see if you need guidance or have questions. Which helps my social anxiety tbh. I'm in my 30s and I still get shy to ask for help and just kinda freeze and hope I can google my question ‍ For my a watercolor class I needed various brushes and I love the bulk discount they offer, so that helps with budgeting. I wanted to get started with a small, portable watercolor paint kit. Nothing elaborate. I figure the best paint set is the one that you have with you ou when the mise strikes...much like with cameras. Most places have either kiddie sets for small children, or big, bulky fancy sets for the time-rich retiree crowd. I'm neither. I had heard that Blick was the place to go for the above and everything in-between. The staff greeted me up on entering the front door and answered my questions. A true art store for true artists! LOCATION & DECOR: On Howe avenue next to Panera bread with shared parking in a hotdog style lot. Small art store feel full of artist supplies. PRICE:$$-$$$ Artist supplies can be expensive when you consider that you need multiple things for any one medium but the supplies here are not overpriced. They offer back to school discounts, student and teacher discounts and regularly have deals on supplies from student level to artist grade. Plus bulk pricing on most things with the purchase of 6 or more and it's easy to buy six of anything when stacking up for a project. They also have free shipping with orders usually over $69 so it's worth it to do bulk orders online as well AMENITIES: I don't think they have a bathroom in the store and if they do, it's in the way back near the employee only section cuz I've never seen one nor any signs for one. STAFF & EXPERIENCE: This is my favorite art store. I stop here first for all my artist needs, then I search their website for what they aren't carrying in store. Lots of supplies for different mediums like drawing, oil painting, watercolor, acrylic, printmaking, sculpting and more. They have easels and boxes & portfolio cases to carry supplies and artwork. Jars and pallets from wooden to paper. They have a plethora of pens and markers and many types of colored pencils and pastels. They've got paper for every need. Stretcher bars and canvas by the yard. Half sheets of special paper like arches watercolor at 22x30 in. They have gator boards and these are the best Gator boards I could find anywhere. Half an inch thick all the way up to 30x40 in. The staff is the best! It's almost like they love their jobs lol. I mean what better place to work as an artist than an art store? There's always someone knowledgeable about what I'm looking for and everyone is truly joyous and eager to help. And I've been in there so many times that most of the employees recognize me. The running joke is that I should just pick up an application which I would totally do if I was looking for employment because this place is just fun. I can call in and ask about supplies before I head over to the store just to see if they have them in stock. They regularly stock their supplies so it's not a matter of if they'll get it in, but a matter of when. During the height of the pandemic, supplies in all places were down, but I was still able to get everything I needed from blick without too much delay if any. I couldn't be happier with an art store. The best art supply store in the area! One of the last good large art supply store chains still around. Excellent low prices for quality items! Over the top customer service! You can indeed check local store stock (but not prices) on the website, but please be aware that the items offered on the Blick website are internet only direct ship prices that are not valid at ANY of the local stores. That said, the stores still have awesome prices on quality items! For instance, the metal frame art desk I was looking for was $310 list but $167 in store regular discount. This is the ONLY Blick store for Sacramento. There are two more in San Francisco and one in Oakland and one in Berkeley. This is THE go to Art Supply store for all high school and college art students in the area as well as local artists. Great friendly knowledgable and helpful staff! I found a great art desk that was out of stock. They took my name to call me when it was back in stock. They called me RIGHT AWAY when they received three more in. They held the item for me. They have a item hold and call back notebook with notes to call people back like this. I have not seen quality customer service like this since the 1970's! read more

Decent store, but they always seem to be out of stock when I need something. I had a project and needed a specific paint, which they said would be in the next shipment. They took my information and didn't get back to me for a whole month, luckily I ordered directly from the supplier because they didn't prioritize me (the customer) at all. I had the most wonderful experience in this store today! I was shopping for granite pencil sets & paper, as I want to get into sketching/drawing. I arrived as the store opened, the two women working in the store were so friendly and helpful. I browsed for almost an hour, asked questions, etc. left spending more than I planned, but totally happy with the money I spent for the quality of materials and superb customer service. My biggest pet peeve in stores is being completely ignored or being followed around like I'm a thief. These ladies had the PERFECT balance of friendly and attentive service. I needed a few materials for my first attempt at oil en plein air painting. I went in an hour before closing on a Sunday and got everything I needed (and more). The layout is wonderful. Compact but they carry everything you need in the major brands plus their house brand. After carefully selecting my materials, I went to pay and my card was declined. I only had a debit card with me. And I couldn't transfer money on my phone same day because it was Sunday. Plus, my Apple Pay account is linked to that one debit card with like no money. They were insanely kind and understanding. They offered to hold my order so that I could come back. I took them up on that offer and claimed my supplies the next day. It saved me time and was a great experience overall. If you are planning on spending more than $35, just buy it online--trust me. With Blick's online website, a $35 cart gives you free shipping and, more often than not, lower prices and more selection. The web match rebate is really a joke. They will not match anywhere near the price of the web prices because they have to account for shipping. So any web match rebates will only discount less than a $1, even if the online vs in store prices are much more different. Overall recommendation: Buy a lot at once online rather than buying in smaller, more expensive quantities in store. Greatest part is their selection for fine art materials is better than that of any crafts store; however, their selection online definitely trumps their in-store. Great for when you need it in a hurry or need a physical items to compare, but if you afford to wait a week or two, opt for better deals online. read more

I hate writing this but I am super frustrated. I love this store ...I love the employees they're knowledgeable and really great ... but..... They've decreased their days and hours to Monday through Friday 10 to 4. Are you kidding me ??? I have a job and I can't even shop there because their hours are not flexible. I get the covid reason but there are other days you could switch with. I'd be fine if they closed five days a week if they would just be open at least 6pm or better yet Saturdays (the busiest shopping day) when I could get there. Unfortunately I have received adds marketing Gamblin oils and their new kits from online and when I saw a 40% off kits and oil paints by them I went to the store to find they did not have all of the products and Diane the manager claimed the sale was for online despite it not indicating that anywhere and that it was not on sale which would mean full price. I did end up with 35% off but the uncaring and inability to help had me putting back 3 items, wasting time and milage and leaving no desire to return to their location. Clearly their add is wrong and nothing was done to prevent others from falling for this with frustration. I am contacting their main store and would recommend you purchase at other stores for better service and pricing. read more

I came here for the customer service. I knew a bit of what I wanted, but wanted some assistance as I mixed and matched the old with the new paints. The gal that helped me was very knowledgeable and the products seem to be working out well. I am happy with my purchases. Unlike your local craft store that will give you one item for 40percent off, they won't give you the customer service has to offer. I guess if I didn't need customer service I'd just buy it online. I would like to preface with the fact that we are long time Blick customers and have shopped with the company since they were called Utrecht and were located down the road. My boyfriend and I went in to pick up some art supplies, but ended up leaving without purchasing anything due to a female employee. She was basically stalking us in every aisle we went to. My boyfriend even tested it by moving to another aisle after she followed him. We would rather pay double the money than be disrespected this way. We were friendly when we walked in and fully intended to purchase a number of items. She rubbed us wrong by profiling us in some way. The store is clean and bright and cheerful. They have all the Copic Markers in stock, which is what I am usually buying. Tons of paper selections, canvases, brushes...They have it all. Blick is more of an art than crafts store (Michaels is for that). The location is very convenient, just off 50 on Howe, very close to CSUS. If you're an art student, this is your place for all your art needs. Very affordable prices, there are always discounts, good value for what you pay. I mainly shop here for paint (acrylic & oil), brushes, canvas and panels. I like the selection of paint at Blick, the low to high quality. Brushes also range from synthetic to natural. Great selection of pens, inks, color pencils, gauche, watercolors, paper, drawing/drafting instruments, and sketch books. Staff has always been very helpful and knowledgeable. I love the area in front of the store dedicated for all kinds of knick-knacks and gifts that are always very unique. I usually get something here for my nephew every time I shop. Warning: Shaddy business practice! I wish I had read othes reviews before I went there the 1st time. I was told they do web price matching. But the receipts I received never showed itemized discount, it only showed a total discount, which left me in the dark to wonder how much I was actually paying for anything. Today, on my 3rd trip to the store. I finally decided to pay attention. I had to do a complete return 1st so the returned item wouldnt be causing any confusion on its ambiguous receipt. When I made a small purchase, I was quite surprised (again) that the cost was much higher than I anticipated. The store manager did end up adjusting the price only after I pointed it out. But this shouldn't have ever happened!!! My purchase price turned out to be $20 something instead of $40. That's quite a difference! I wonder how much had they over charged me before on my bigger purchases. But what bothers me more than anything is how shaddy it feels! Some of Blicks items are more expensive online, some are less online, which is fine. But isn't it a consumer's right to know how much they are paying for a product??? How many consumers have they duped simply because the consumers have trusted that they would honor the web pricing? I wish more people could know this. I needed a quart of 1Shot sign paint. Online the price form Blick's was 30% off of 28 dollars. I called the store in Sacramento and ask if the honored the online pricing. Noah said they did. I drove to the Sac store and was charged 28 dollars for the product. When I disputed the price. I was told that the 30% off was to cover the cost of shipping. ... ... What does that have to do with me? I picked the product up locally. No shipping involved. The only thing the listing says is, "30% off". And, I have just paid 12/15 dollars in gas to get here. The paint cost me 40+ dollars. I will never shop at Blicks again. PS. When I talked to the manager, he tried to explain away the logic and continually told me he understood my frustration. Best place for supplies of any kind; they have a great selection for printmaking, and that's usually what I'm there for. I've been going here for like four years and I've never once seen an employee that isn't head-over-heels excited to help you. Has way better supplies than Joann's/Michaels, however I've never been to University Art so I can't compare, but I don't think I need to read more
