Typically, restaurants have gluten free bread that is made with tons of preservatives and tastes poorly. Regina and Paul make their own tasty bread with wholesome ingredients. Flights. Were insanely good. U ever hit up a spot where each flight taste properly unique and significant enough to actually stop and relish each in their own way? They had that! Had the "first 4". Never tried a potato stout before. Yum. Pretzel/pierog thing, pretzel (way more taste than a typical pub pretzel, bit sweet NOT sugary), and the jackfruit sammy. Again not looking up the menu for exact names sorry but all fantastic. Followed up with a pint of the beach blonde. Space is sweet. Grabbed the nice nook. Books to page and lots of local CSA, farm stand, bird/wildlife pamphlets to check out. I'm so happy we spotted this on our "near me" search and stopped by. Wow ! What a great little place ! Was in the area and did a search of brewery's. We had burgers here and duck fat fries. Both delicious. I highly recommend the burgers had mine in a home made pretzel bun with sautéed onions. Cooked perfectly and the home made pretzel bun is killer ! The duck fast fries are homemade and they're very delicious. Highly recommend the Blind bat for a burger and fries. I did notice they offer pierogi on Fridays and Sundays I believe. While browsing, i doubted this place and decided to try it. I believe this place is most noticeable for its hospitality, i was wiped with such a friendly host, who i believe is also a brewmaster. The place itself is small; it has only five tables or so. My husband and i enjoy beers, we had some samples to try, and everything has a unique flavor profile. For the food, i got waffle crab cake, i enjoyed it; it is made of real crab meat with no bread crumbles or any other add-ons, so different, yes. On the other hand, the pierogi dish was a little disappointing, considering that you pay for a piece. They could be a little bigger if the place aiming for a Polish-style one were underwhelming. One of Long Island's best kept foodie secrets since 2014 is this fantastic little brewpub in Centerport. Paul Dlugokencky is a creative brewer, and his beers are definitely worth a try. Some of my faves include Tahoma tart lager, Honey & Basil Ale, Long Island Potato Stout, Hellsmoke Porter, Blind Bat Be Bop Belgian-inspired IPA Lucifugus IPA and the sour and smoky Vlad the Inhaler Old Polish-Style Smoked Wheat Beer. Paul will happily let you sample whatever he has on tap, or try a flight! The refreshing libations are just half the story, though, as the food Paul and his wife Regina serve is AMAZING and just as creative as the beer. Crispy on the outside, tender and flavorful on the inside, their pickle-brined, beer-battered, duck fat-fried chicken sandwich really lived up to the hype. Marvelously decadent beer and cheese spaetzle is a must-try, as are the burgers, the incredible gribenes and potato onion duck bacon knishes, and the "Here Comes the Sun" zucchini and ricotta tarte. Some of my favorites are the organic smashed turkey burger with New York State smoked Gouda or grass-fed smashed beef burger and locally grown kale salad with house made dressing. Being a blind bat is probably not all that bad. I mean, bats don't really need to see (echolocation, right?), and most importantly, they can still drink plenty of beer. So if you're a bat (or more likely, a human?), head up to Blint Bat Brewery's new storefront spot. C'mon, let's go! I've been seeing Blind Bat's name pop up for years, whether in bottles/cans at farmer's markets, on tap at a few select locations, or occasionally amidst a beer festival. Problem is, it's so few and far between that I never got a true feel for their brews. Welp, that lack of feel is over now that BB has a place to call their own in Centerport. Still softly opening, my buddy and I swung in to check it all out and by the end, we were smitten. Start off with the cute café ambiance that's set up through the turquoise-colored tables, display case of (some) eats, and a nod at local love, especially found on their mirrored wall that showed a list of nearby places contributing to Blind Bat's success. Continue with both food and drink successes in making Blind Bat not only a taproom, but a bistro. Bistro you say? Why yes! Blind Bat has a nice little menu of edible options (almost) all made to order and varying from basic items (sausages and hamburgers, or smmmashed as they say) to more eclectic selections (cajun artichoke dip and duck bacon knishes). Those latter two choices, along with a "Here Comes the Sun" Zucchini + Ricotta Tarte, made up my buddy and I's meal. Uniquely delicious is a strong word to describe things here. I don't think I ever have, nor I ever will again, eat a knish with duck bacon at any other place besides Blind Bat, but by golly, it's a puff of tastiness! The tarte had a creamy consistency and came close to a quiche in style while that dip? A nice zing of spice with plenty of sourdough baguette pieces surrounding it. Moral of the story, don't sleep on the grub when you come here. But wait. Beer! Blind Bat truly has a hand in some individualized suds while still holding on to great flavor along with a kick of locality in each sip. Ever have a Long Island Potato Stout? Honey and Basil Ale? Hellsmoke Porter? One trip to Blind Bat will give you all these original tastes and much more. A flight of four (plus an extra pour for $2 more and a pint for mi amigo) gave us a taste of everything mentioned as well as their Belgian IPA, Hefeweizen, and Smoked Wit. Dang, Blind Bat really knows how to put out some great quality in each of these styles creating a reason to return over and over again. One other reason? Paul. The owner and brewer of Blind Bat is a quirky yet super friendly fella. Not only is he concocting and pouring these local libations but he's in the back cooking up a storm and out front thanking customers for coming in. This guy is the lifeblood of Blind Bat and luckily, he can also see (...bad joke there). But you get the idea that customer service is a big part of BB and a facet for why coming in is worth the trip. Overall, Blind Bat Brewery finally has a physical place to call its own (which isn't a little cottage, as cute as the pic is). Between its food, brews, hospitality, and connection to locality, Blind Bat is the full package and surely a beer spot that will continue to make its mark in Centerport, on Long Island, and all over. So don't worry about bats not being able to see. If they can drink Blind Bat beers, they'll be lovin' life (and maybe they'll be a little tipsy too). read more

We found Blind Bat Brewery Bistro through the NYS Craft Brewery app and we couldn't be happier we did! We just finished a nice 5 mile walk at Jones Beach and we're looking for a place to grab a drink and little food. We were greeted by Paul and grabbed a seat and ordered wine (I know) and my father tried several beers. They have a really great menu filled with fresh and organic ingredients, which is not something you typically find at a brewery. We had a knish and Cajun-style artichoke dip. My dad said it was the best knish he's ever had and the dip was incredibly tasty and fresh. If we didn't have BBQ plan for dinner - we would've ordered a full meal! Regina, Paul's wife was also fantastic and spent time chatting with us! Another local celebrity, Bob from Duck Island came and it's really nice to see them support each other! I went brewery hopping a couple of weeks back, and ended up stumbling upon this gem. From the outside, this place looks like a cute little cafe, and honestly, from the inside it does too. I drove by 4 times before I realized, oh THAT'S the brewery? But man, am I glad we found it. This place is slinging some really unique craft beers, some inspired by locally grown ingredients (shout out to the Island Potato Stout). They only had 6 taps when I went, but each beer was so unique from the next that I highly recommend getting a flight and trying them all. Huge props for not have 6 taps of just IPAs. They also have a pretty decent looking food menu (I didn't get any food while I was there, but everyone around me that did, their food looked great) and a selection of wine for your non-beer drinking friends. I have become a Blind Bat Brewery addict. The El Reno Fried Onion burger has completely ruined me for a burger anywhere else. The sLamb burger is so incredibly tasty and rich it is ridiculous! Guacamole is so fabulous that I told the place that I used to buy guacamole from to go taste it a Blind Bat and see why I could never buy guacamole elsewhere! Duck Fat Fried Organic potatoes are killer as is the greek potato salad and macaroni salad. Anyone who has tasted the ice cream sandwich knows it is the best ever! Sadly I don't drink beer but brought a friend who does this weekend and she loved the flight. Luckily for me they serve Macari wines that are delicious. My friend from Westchester, who is also a chef, wants to eat at Blind Bat every time she visits. This weekend she ordered the cheese spaetzle for an appetizer and it was sublime! Great food and beer! Made the trip from the South Shore a couple of times now and have never been disappointed by anything. The El Reno burger and Tommy Joe sandwich on the regular menu are personal favorites, but today I tried the new duck fat fried chicken sandwich and it was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Truly everything on it is wonderful, from the chicken itself to the pickles and the aioli. Paired with an onion and duck bacon knish (also incredible and loaded with, well, duck bacon) and Echolocation IPA, it was the perfect lunch. The beers available are refreshingly un-IPA-centric and many change with (and reflect) the season. The weizenbock is top- notch, as is the lightly smoked Hellsmoke porter, but all deserve to be tried as they truly run the gamut and are quite unique (where else can you get a sweet potato saison?). Paul is a great guy, super friendly and very welcoming. He and Regina have clearly put lots of thought and effort into this place, and it truly shows. The prices and portions here are appropriate for a bistro (I mean, it's right there in the name...) but you are getting quality food and beer made from the best (often local and organic) ingredients. These days, everyone and his brother (read: brah) is opening yet another craft brewery, hoping to get in on the trend. It's one hoppy IPA after another, with varying success (Sand City in Northport has mastered the NEIPA style, but other joints, meh). What if you want something different? What if you want to actually explore craft beer, made by an artist who's not in it for the profit? Paul at Blind Bat has some beer for you to try. He's been brewing out of his backyard for years now, selling bottles, cans, and kegs here there and everywhere. Finally he and his wife Regina landed their own space, not literally in their own backyard (that's where the tanks are), but pretty close to it on Washington Drive. As I said, you're not likely to find standard bro IPAs here. Nor are you going to find beers that are paragons of their style (that may have disappointed connoisseur Aren T over there, who's been all over America, which isn't known for its varied beer culture, but I digress). Paul takes a little of this, a little of that, and makes unique beer. Hey, I don't like all of his beers (sorry dude). But I like that it's different, I like that he's exploring, and THAT is what craft is. Besides, who else is making stouts with Long Island potatoes, or local oyster shells? Who else is making honey-basil beer, with basil so local you could walk to where it was grown? I'll wait. And the beer's not all. Paul and Regina have a great food menu, including one of the best burgers I've had in recent memory. They pay attention to quality, using local ingredients, and it shows. I have to try the tomato tart before tomato season ends - it looks so good. I hope it's as good as the duck bacon knishes! Speaking of tomatoes, I needed some cherry tomatoes the other day, and the local farm stand only had grape tomatoes. I found my cherry tomatoes - at Blind Bat Brewery? We have Regina to thank for that! Look, this place is different, and I gotta be honest, it's not for everyone. My husband and I stopped in to have drinks, since the evening was so nice and we wanted to try our local Centerport bistro. We didn't know what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised. My husband enjoyed his beer and being a wine drinker, I had the Early Spring wine. The wines are all from Long Island. I will let the experts rate the beers but I do have to RAVE about the hamburgers, best I can remember having in a long time, really delicious. If you are a longtime local resident - Hamburger Choo Choo delicious ! We will make this bistro a regular visit . The macaroni side with a smidge hint of (I think it was ginger). The beer is unique and delicious. The effort to keep everything they use organic and local is not only cool but it truly shows in how great the food tastes.
