Customer service is Great! I've been here a few months ago and it was a complete 180 in my opinion. I was greeted with a friendly smile and upbeat attitude from the receptionist. She offered champagne, water or a mimosa which was really nice. My stylist took longer than we expected instead of 45 minutes I was there an hour and a half. And I was honestly nervous because black hair is very different than others but she did great! They initially told me I would be charged an additional $20 for the extended time. This is the only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5. I'm not sure why the customer would be charged for the stylists issue with time management but I was happy the receptionist with the amazing attitude offered to waive it or subtract another charge for me. I'm happy with the way my hair turned out will happily return simply due to the better customer service. Update I referred my mother to this location one day after my visit and she had a VERY different experience She made an appointment online for 430 by 5oclock she still had not been helped She ended up leaving without getting her hair done because the stylist said "she couldn't do her hair" I will not be recommending anyone else here because that is definitely disappointing read more

Sent a client here to before a work event: manager Denise was accommodating and kind. Comments below are verbatim from client: "I had been set up for initially at 8 AM service, but we realized with traffic I'd be closer to 830; and they were accommodating in shifting things slightly. Never been to this particular mall before, and it's super confusing. It's almost designed like a theme park ride with crazy twist and turns. Parking was easy once we found it, and the only rather odd thing was my Stylist walked in about three minutes after I was there, basically late. I had Rachel, she was very experienced, and nice and accommodating. This salon only uses UNITE shampoo and conditioners, which are too heavy for my fine hair, and it was a bit odd. They didn't have anything else for those of us to prefer not to have a lot of extra "junk" in our shampoos. Because basically everything in the UNITE line is all about "doing something" to your hair. So we had to use my shampoo. For some weird reason, this has become a norm in a lot of blowout salons and it's annoying: They don't tend to use hot water in their hair-washing sinks. Perhaps it's to keep the bills down, perhaps it's because the plumbing just is terrible, but I had to request that my stylist actually use hot water to get the shampoo and conditioner out of my hair - which by the way is the only way to thoroughly get it out of hair. Rachel listened attentively to my specific requests for my hair, and she did a really nice job. The one downside was it took over an hour and a half, and she didn't seem to be going at any sort of a pace that would help pick it up, so I was late to the event. The shampoo itself took about 25 minutes - again, she was going at a leisurely pace... The front desk person was nice, and allowed me to pay while I was still getting my hair finished so at least I could cut down the stay a bit. Blowouts here are pricier then a lot of places in Los Angeles, the range in LA is anywhere between $45 and $65 generally speaking. Here it is $70. Which means once I tip out the stylist, I'm paying over $80 for a simple blowout. Water was offered to me, which is a nice touch, and while it's definitely a step above Dry Bar, I wouldn't go so far as to say it felt like a legitimate salon. It has that kind of temporary, cheap feel in everything, and the chairs are weirdly close together! We were pretty much right on top of the person next to me getting their hair blown out, which just wasn't comfortable. I could hear every bit of their conversation and they could hear every bit of ours, and when their Stylist was spraying the hairspray, unfortunately it landed on me. Wasn't a great thing. But again, Rachel did a good job, and while I'm not sure I would return, it was definitely an overall positive experience." read more

You're able to schedule in the before hours (7-9 AM) and this was so helpful since I had a commute and my event starts at 12. I've been a Drybar customer for years and love them, but decided to try out Blo Blow because the Carlsbad location happened to be closer to where I was staying, versus making a special trip out to Drybar Encinitas. It was easy to make an appointment online (they were in ClassPass surprisingly). There is metered parking right out front but I recommend giving yourself extra time in case the spots fill up. The blowdry styles are similar to the Drybar ones, but I like that my stylist let me customize my look a bit differently and asked me a lot of questions when we started. The salon is much smaller than a Drybar, so it was a nicer more intimate experience and not crowded. read more

The whole service was a bit off. When I was put in the chair I was told by my stylist that I could not ever achieve volume due to the nature of my hair - which was weird to hear, as I leave most hair appointments with bouncy blown out hair. Next, my stylist kept leaving the service to help the employee in the chair next to me. I'm all for training and assisting your co-workers but it happened 4 times and there was never any communication about taking a quick break. She was nice but so rough there were times my eyes started watering and there were a few backhanded comments ("if I were getting a blowout I'd come in with disgustingly dirty hair too") that made me feel pretty bad about myself. read more

I am hesitant to give a bad review, so I first reached out to BLo Dry Bar via email to share my experience, and I was never contacted or responded to. So this review is a result of management completely ignoring feedback. I have been going here for years periodically for a good blow dry. Honestly, it's hit or miss. And consistent with other reviews, I have been left to wait 30+ minutes beyond appointment time to be seen with zero apologies. There are several very talented stylists, and others not so much. For me, I want consistency. I was assigned to Brenna, who as it turned out is not ready to take on clients. I do expect a professional blow dry with an experienced person. The service was so far off the mark, and although Brenna is very sweet, she is not at a level to take on clients. My hair was literally still wet in the back when she "finished". I felt so awkward and uncomfortable and had to point out that my hair wasn't even dry. Long story short I had to go home and rewash my hair and start over. Super frustrating and could not believe I just paid for that "service". read more

My daughter and I went here for the first time earlier this afternoon and had our hair and make-up done and it was a great experience! When I called to try and book the appointments earlier in the week, I spoke to Nessa and she said that the times that I needed wasn't available but that she'd try to work it out and talk to her manager. So I left her my number. I was feeling discouraged but then a few minutes later she called back and was able to fit us in. She already made a great first impression when I spoke to her on the phone because she was very kind, sounded like she genuinely cared and really wanted to help. Then when we went to our appointment, Nessa is the one who greeted us immediately when we walked in. She was just as sweet as when I spoke to her on the phone. It was such a warm welcome. We really like this salon's vibe. It has a good atmosphere. Nessa was the one who styled both my hair and my daughter's and she did exactly what we requested and we loved it! Both our hairstyles lasted over 8 hours! Julia was the make-up artist we both had and her work was fantastic! We got a lot of compliments. Our make-up lasted just as long as our hairstyles. Great blowout today. My hair is difficult to make look nice - it's fine but there's lots of it. It doesn't get much volume. It'll hold a curl - until it decides not to. And it frizzes out very easily. They really managed to tame the frizzies and my hair held its curl extremely well throughout my photo shoot. In fact, it was probably a tad bit too curly by the time it rolled around in the afternoon (that's impressive w hair like mine). Would it have held up on a rainy day in NYC? Hmm. Not sure. My family and I came here to get ready on the morning of my wedding. I was taken 20 minutes late and rushed during my hair and make up. The woman kept telling me that she needs to hurry and get started so she could finish on time. She washed my head very fast and aggressively to the point that it hurt! I had requested a head massage so I could relax before my wedding and I did not receive it, neither did anyone else in my family which I had booked for everyone. I made an appointment a month in advance with this location for my sister and I to have our hair and make up done for a family portrait. We are both from out of town and knew better than to book last minute. On our way to the location, we didn't have the address, so we called to confirm. I had previously also called to confirm on Friday May 13th and was told all was good. The receptionist scoffed and insisted there was no appointment for us for today until I pressed the issue. Finally they confessed that someone had called to cancel the appointment the day after I confirmed it. She would not stop telling me it was ABSOLUTELY not their fault, that certainly I must have called to cancel. I didn't. Instead of being proactive and helpful, she was rude. Additionally she tried to convince us there would be no other salon with availability to help us same day. This portrait is very important to my family, as it is with my mother who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. We were left, near tears in a car in a foreign place being scolded by a receptionist who began to yell at the end. Mistakes happen, that much I can understand. But problem solving and helping isn't this salons strong suits, even when it was their mistake in the first place. There was no apology made. I guess they will find out when the client who called to cancel their appointment doesn't show up. Stay away. read more

I made an appointment more than a month in advance for hair and makeup for me and my sister. We were visiting from out of town and weren't familiar with the area- on our drive to the appointment the salon told me that the appointments didn't exist, then after pushing they said the appointments had been cancelled. It was crazy. 20 minutes before our appointment we were left scrambling- the appointments were for a family portrait with my mom who is dying. And the lady on the phone could not have been more rude. In fact she told us not to bother calling any other salon in the city to make an appointment as they would be too busy. Of course we called two different places and they both had availability. There was only one worker (granted, it was an hour before closing) the decor was cute but the way I felt as a customer was like I was in a Great Clips rather than a salon experience. I told the lady who did my hair what style I wanted as indicated in a look book they have on the coffee table where you wait, but she didn't even know what their brand styles were called.. I was expecting something stylish but in the end it looked like when your friend would curl your hair in middle school. It just looked really amateur and I left feeling kind of embarassed of my hair. I have never left a bad review before, but I am so unhappy with my hair. I went to Blo in November and my stylist was amazing. She took great care of me. I was just at Blo again today, booked the same length appointment, and my stylist did an awful job. She complained that she felt rushed and hoped that she would "get through it all before time was up." I would've paid any extra fees if I went over my time slot. The first time I was there, the appointment length was perfect, so I didn't think I needed to book a longer appt this time. My stylists name this time was Denise. My hair is frizzy, she did not spray it down with hairspray, and there are sections that are inconsistent. I did not say anything at the end of my apt because I was just in shock. My review is more like 3.5 but instead of rounding it to 4, I am going to go the opposite direction this time due to my check out experience. I booked an appointment two weeks before they only had a 2:30 pm available that day, so I took that time slot. However, I called them back and asked them to keep me in mind if there are any cancellations earlier that day, I rather take my time than have to rush to an event right after my hair appointment. I had to call and leave a message twice, before they called me a day before my appointment that they have a 7:30 am slot for me. I took it, even though it was really early and I was worried that my hair would flatten out by the time of the event at 3:30 pm. I got there Saturday morning at 7:30 am and no one else was there except for my stylist Alex. He was really great and told me that he would do beach waves/curls instead of the glam curls, since they tend to last a bit longer. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't do the glam curls, due to the time of my appointment, but I brushed it off. I told Alex to just layer on the hairspray if he had to. He did a great job with it and made it seem so effortless. I got to drink my tea and watch a bit of tv while he did my hair. When it came time to check out, I thought I saw a deal if I checked in on Yelp, so I was trying to pull it up, but my phone wasn't getting any reception, so it was hard. The woman checking me out looked annoyed that she had to wait, so I asked her for the wifi password so that I can pull up the info sooner, which was taking awhile to load, so she sighed some more and was getting irritated with me, even though there was no one else there. She acted like I was holding up a line. Finally, I pulled up the check-in offer and it wasn't right for the service that I got, so I ended up disregarding it, but the fact that she was rolling her eyes, was annoyed with me and wasn't friendly when I checked out, made me question if I ever want to come back here again. I live in the area so this would be a great spot for me to come to often, but I think I'm going to go drive out of my way to the blo bunny place in Del Mar for better and friendlier service. LOVE, love this blo location in Carlsbad! Every time I've been here my hair has turned out stunning and it just makes me feel extremely happy. Every stylist I've met is on point, and I can feel the confidence and experience in the way they interact and perform. They just have that intuition of knowing the style that would complement and make you look gorgeous!!!
