I've debated on sharing my experience here but honestly need to, to serve as a warning to potential new clients with curly/wavy hair texture if nothing else. Lots of detail below, but in summary: "Mania" Maya is not familiar with curly/wavy hair texture and I had a painful, demeaning experience as a result of sitting in her chair. This review reflects my experience with her, and not any of the other stylists/staff or salon as a whole. I booked with "Mania" Maya due to seeing her name mentioned positively in past reviews - I'd never been to this salon before, but was looking for a local Drybar-adjacent service to have my hair styled before an international trip. My hair stylist is located in Pasadena, and I wanted a closer service. I have curly/wavy hair - when I let it dry naturally, I brush it after showering but not again until I'm ready to wash it. I scrunch it up to encourage the curl. That being said, I arrived with my wavy hair that hadn't been brushed. Upon arrival, Maya asked if we were washing my hair (which was part of the service I selected, so I thought it strange that she asked). When it was clear she wasn't going to brush my hair before washing it, I asked for a brush to do it myself. I rushed to brush it which inevitably still left some tangles. Maya washed my hair and immediately began brushing it without applying any detangling product. This led to one of the worst knots I've ever had, which she readily insisted we had to cut. I had to advocate to work on pulling the hair apart myself, and asked for product to be applied. She did not try to apply product first, she did not insist on trying to preserve what we could of my hair, I as the client had to do this. I would've lost a larger portion of my hair otherwise. She tried telling me it was okay because it was in the back of my head, and wouldn't be seen. I have never had any issues getting my hair done before, and I told her this. She asked me if I brush my hair everyday, which leads me to believe she is not familiar with curly hair. She insisted detangling product would not allow the style to last (which may/may not be true, but clearly I needed some product). She lectured me on how to keep my hair hydrated, how I should style it/sleep in it when I leave it natural, and shook her head every time she encountered another knot. She later asked me how old I was, which given the context, felt condescending. As if I must be too young to understand how to care for my hair. She didn't explain why she asked my age. Honestly, with how long and painful it was to try to reduce the knot, I was debating on leaving with wet hair. I was dismayed. I stayed for the full service, but would have to be a masochist to ever return to her chair. Another note, though less important, is that I was never offered water or anything to drink. I heard another stylist offer a client this, which makes me believe it should be normal here. Again, this review is reflective of my experience with this particular stylist and is not a reflection of any others. I cannot recommend Maya. read more

I had such an amazing experience at The Blowout Bar! Booking was a breeze, and they even asked what time I needed to be done so I could plan the rest of my day--so thoughtful! Diana did an updo for me for a wedding, and she absolutely nailed it. She was fun, friendly, and really took the time to ask questions to make sure it was exactly what I wanted. Somehow she made it look like I had twice the amount of hair, and it lasted flawlessly all night. On my way out, I asked about getting false eyelashes, and Mia was able to squeeze me in (lifesaver!). She picked the perfect lashes, then went above and beyond by doing my brows and eyeliner too. Everything looked perfect and really pulled my whole look together. The whole salon has such a fun, upbeat vibe, and everyone there was incredibly accommodating. they get my highest recommendation! read more

I'm 30 something and never had a real professional cut... so I was scrolling IG and this salon popped up... I rolled the dice and I am so glad I did! I made my appointment with Gigi through their IG account. The person I was chatting with was extremely friendly, professional and helpful! Gigi is a great gal and knows what she's doing with her clients hair. You're in good hands with her. I have referred my Sister and girlfriend to her already! I got my makeup done here for my maternity shoot. This salon was recommended by the portrait studio. Astrik was my stylist. Booking was easy and the cost was great ($100). I was late and they were empathetic and flexible with me and still did my makeup. Astrik was professional and personable. I felt comfortable during the service. Yes, she brought me water (I am pregnant and cannot drink champagne). She asked for feedback about my desired look and applied it expertly. They provide all the makeup, but as I am a unique skin tone, I brought my own concealer and foundation and she blended them for me. I appreciated my stylist's ability to work across her and my materials. Most importantly, my photos came out amazing! I enjoyed my experience and would return and recommend. read more

Love this salon especially for hair and makeup for a special occasion like a wedding or party. It is spacious and clean. It's very nice that offer you champagne or water when you are seated! It matters who you have as a stylist because some are better than others . I did experience once where my hairstylist did a rushed job and used way too much hairspray. All I have to say is Drybar is so much better. They don't have proper brushes and I asked for beach waves but was given curls. Also the person doing my hair didn't even know what she was doing and kept complaining that my hair was a lot of trouble (kept getting tangled) I asked her to spray a detangling spray and instead she puts on heat protectant. read more

If you want a blowout, this is 100% worth it. When I came in, I was offered a beverage, and checking in took two seconds. Victoria promptly came out and took great care of me. She washed my hair thoroughly, dried my hair, and we had a pleasant conversation that wasn't overwhelming for my introvert heart. I have long thick hair and was worried it would take over an hour. But Victoria got me from limp, greasy lifeless hair to clean, bouncy bombshell hair in exactly 45 minutes! I'll admit, it's kinda pricey. But I called my regular hair salon to see if they'd do a blowout and the cost was the same. So even if it's a bit much, it's at least fair. I guess services are just expensive these days. And by the way, especially if you are a parent, this is such a hack to get ready for date night or a party. Sure, I can do my own hair. But it's impossible to get it done with I'm at home and my kids and husband are asking me questions every few minutes. With Blo Out Lounge, I get the treat of squeaky clean hair, a gorgeous 'do, and I'm door to door in 1 hour. Definitely coming back the next time I have a special occasion! read more

I bought an eccentric dress for my dad's Hawaiian-shirt themed birthday party and needed hair and makeup that would truly make a statement. I went to Blo Out Lounge years ago and had a great experience, so was not deterred from making my appointments here again. Major pro: airbrush, a miracle makeup application technique that many other salons do not offer in the nearby vicinity. My makeup was done by the amazing, knowledgeable, skillful, and wonderful Adavel- makeup extraordinaire with a fantastic professional resume. She could truly have her own business and charge double, but I am happy she works at Blo Out Lounge. I requested dramatic. Having given myself corneal abrasions from doing my own makeup, I now leave it to the professionals. And what a job she did! I was nervous about my own selection of bold red, but it really brought out the colors of my dress. I received soooooo many compliments on my makeup. I appreciated her recommendations, and requests for feedback- she seemed determined to create the look I was aiming for. She is amazing. My hair was done by the marvelous Jessica. I was a bit nervous, and discovered she is a young woman with extreme talent! I showed her a photo of what I was looking for, and she absolutely produced superb results! Let me just start with this, I rarely take the time to write reviews and maybe I should do them more because I know how much I look to reviews for services or restaurants whatever. But I had to write about her! I have long INSANELY thick, course wavy/curly hair. I have gone to get blowouts a handful of times and I'm never happy, partially because I've been doing hair for 20 years & know how to do a good shampoo and blowout but also because people half ass all the time!! I recently got my hair dyed a few weeks ago and the girl completely fried my hair. Like-I haven't even been able to style it that's how bad it is. It feels like hay. I went to have my hair and makeup done. When I arrived I was told that the lady my appointment was with had to leave so Jordon was going to take of me. Jorden was supper nice but once my hair was curled not like the picture) I requested an updo. So another girl had to do it since we "ran out of time" They only scheduled an hour for my hair and makeup. The girl did my updo twice and finally i couldn't sit there anymore, i still wasn't thrilled with my hair but had to leave. I was charged for two separate hair dos without anyone telling me there would be an additional charge. Since the receipt was emailed to me I didn't know until I got home. But I figured, no problem I wasn't happy sooooo. Then 45 minutes after I left the salon bobby pins started to fall out of my hair and my hair started to fall. Came in for blow out and makeup. I got Xochi and she was amazing! She washed my hair and gave me a much needed head massage. She had good conversation and before I knew it, my hair was done. She gave me some tips to keep my hair looking good until it was time for the party I'm attending. I'm waiting for my makeup, I will update this post after my makeup is done. So far, amazing! *Update* makeup finished!! It looks amazing. My foundation matched perfect!! Sasha was great with asking what I wanted and also recommended what would look good.
