Really rude customer service. Cakes may be 10/10 but the rudeness and attitude is also 10/10. Pick up was Dec 6th 2925. 945am. Later review reveals that this person was the owner herself? Amazing bakery! Amazing products! I went to see in person the Amon Ra St Brown cake....I was not disappointed! In my pre going there research...I saw that they have done multiple amazing cakes like this in the past! I got there about 1pm on a beautiful sunny Friday. There was a lot of buzz outside!The line to get in the store was not too long, so I stood and admired the display cake as I waited to sample their wares. Once in, the bakery items were quite enticing. From thinking I'll just get a couple of cookies to...1 of each cookie type they had (6!) Mary R, the head wedding cake coordinator was extremely hard to get ahold of & when I finally did, the morning of our tasting (scheduled 3 weeks in advance) she called to reschedule due to a headache. After I politely told her that we were traveling 2 hours out of town and were already on the road, she got snide with me on the phone and told me we'd keep the appointment. We were also in town for our venue menu tasting (which she was aware of) and I told her that it may be a tight transition due to that tasting taking place first & it being a plated, multi course, experience. The front desk person who scheduled our tasting appointment told me that this wouldn't be a problem and they are flexible with this sort of thing. We called to let Mary R know that we were on the road heading to them for the cake tasting and were about 8 min behind schedule, and she told us that since she was feeling ill and we'd be slightly late she would leave the box of cake at the front desk and we could take it home to try the cakes. This was extremely disappointing. She may work around weddings all day everyday, but this is our first experience with the wedding process. It felt as if we weren't a priority and that it was "just another appointment" to her. Therefore we will be taking our business elsewhere, to a company that takes pride in their newly engaged couples experiences' and doesn't make them try their cakes out of a cardboard box in their own car. read more

Their window displays are epic and show off their craft. Holiday themes are especially fun and a beautiful sight! Step inside and you are greeted with cookies, pies, brownies, donuts, cannolis, kronuts, and other baked goods to name a few. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach coming in. It is tiny inside and a little awkward with people shuffling in and out. So pack your patience! Staff are friendly and helpful. Price wise, not too bad! The kronuts are priceless though, the best thing they have! It's creamy, flaky and delicious all at once. Cookies are a very good size for the price. They also do custom cakes. A few vegan and gluten free options. Kronuts are $4.50 each. Cannolis - $2.75 Cookies between $2-4 depends on the size and type. Big dog treats for $1.25. As a longtime customer of the bakery, I'm generally pleased with their baked goods. However, lately I've noticed an inconsistency in their chocolate chip cookies. I think it depends on who bakes them. On a good day, they are crunchy around the edge and chewy in the middle, buttery and salty. Delicious! On other days, like today, they are overloaded with chips, dry, and super crumbly - NOT delicious! KEEP IN MIND! Every time you drive or walk past this store & have the immense privilege to glance upon their window display, it is made entirely out of confection! How do they do this?! I really want to know. It's just simply TOO incredible for the mind to rationalize. They rotate the window display about once a season I believe & are always so current as well. I remember when the final season of Game of Thrones was airing, they create a Game of Thrones window display & it was honestly the coolest thing ever! One Christmas, they also did an entire holiday Star Wars display, complete with a rotating R2-D2 spinning around inside of a gift box! Window display aside, I can also attest to their delicious desserts inside. I've come here for all sorts of occasions big & small - my personal favorites were coming here to get mini pies for Pi Day & a hilariously designed cake of theirs for NYE/New Year's this past January! :) I've also tried many of their donuts, cronuts, and other pastries & they are equally gorgeous to look at & delicious to taste! Mary from Home Bakery did the gorgeous wedding cake and groom's cake at my daughter's wedding this past weekend. The white-on-white classic wedding cake was absolutely meticulous! And nobody can beat the flavor of Home Bakery frosting. The grooms cake, a wine bottle in a crate made entirely of cake and frosting, was so accurate and life-like, that people wanted to touch it! All of our guests were taking pictures of the groom's cake and couldn't believe how perfectly it was rendered. So my advise it to run, not walk, to get your wedding cake/groom's cake from Home Bakery. All the staff is wonderful, but be sure to ask for Mary. I cannot recommend this place enough! I called after a referral and Mary helped me out for a bridal shower cake for a family member. It was a large order and when I came in to talk about it she had different kinds of buttercream as well as the two cake flavors to try them out with. I'm not gonna lie they alllll tasted amazing! How many times have I passed the Home Bakery and never stopped here? For some reason, I always expected it to be insanely expensive. We got my niece's baptism cake here because it was close and they knocked it out of the park. It was a classic vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream - the buttercream tasted like marshmallows. It was incredible! The cake was SO surprisingly afforble and decorated beautifully. The selection of fresh pastries and treats inside of the bakery on a random weekday morning was also mind-blowing. The Home Bakery is amazing. First of all, their holiday window displays are amazing. I epicly stan them! Every year is outstanding. This year is Star Wars. In the past they have done Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, Minions, Small Foot. This alone draws me in during the holiday light season. Second their bake goods are beautiful to look at. The holiday kronut has made it to my insta page, it makes an insane picture. But the real star is how good and fresh their food tastes! The kronut is flaky and amazing. The vanilla pastry cream inside is a gooey hidden treasure. We also tried the peanut butter cup brownie. It was surprisingly light and not overly rich. It was melt in your mouth yummy, one of the best brownies I've had in a long time. Lastly, we purchased a slice of the holiday jelly roll. It was so light and refreshing. The frosting was perfect, not too buttery or greasy, it tasted fresh, and the cake was moist and spongy. The prices were great. I spent only about $10 to bring home dessert for the family. That is sometimes the price of one dessert at a restaurant, and this was fresh baked, and way better. You can always tell a good bakery from a mediocre one by the turn over of the product, the line of people in the store, and the freshness of the ingredients, and this place hits the target on all three. What a true delight this place is. We had a woman named Emily (spelling?) wait on us. We appreciated her patience and customer service. Since we had difficulty deciding what to purchase, she politely guided us to some of her favorites. (Forgive us if we do not get the exact names correctly): we had the lemon bar, cookie dough bar, and a sugar cookie dipped on one end and coated in peppermint stick candies and a peanut butter cookie. Looked like it was pieced together with buttercream as the glue. A 6" cake cost $29 a hefty price for 2 unbeatable slices. When I took it back to show them, they blamed ME for not refrigerating it. Who likes to eat COLD cake? I have been patronizing them for 30 years and will now be using HOLIDAY MARKET IN ROYAL OAK. they make BEAUTIFUL and delicious cakes. Highly disappointed in the customer service I received at The Home Bakery. I placed an order for Christmas Eve and verified their hours online. Upon arrival, the bakery was closed. I emailed and called immediately and no one responded resulting in no dessert for my holiday party. Additionally, there wasn't a courtesy call given which I find odd, especially on a prepaid holiday order. Even the confirmation email did not have hours listed. The extremely rude manager called me 3 days later to tell me their cancellation policy. I reiterated that I did not cancel and their lack of communication and transparency on hours is the reason the order was not fulfilled. The email confirmation and online hours were not accurate and it was not posted anywhere on their building. The Home Bakery is not reliable, flexible or empathetic. Instead of trying to resolve the issue they offered for me to pick up 5 day old bakery items, cleary not caring about the quality as a first time customer. I recommend going elsewhere. I am all for supporting small businesses and there are way better options that care about their customers. My order was $116. Very minimal refund that could have avoided this poor experience. The Home Bakery ruined my holiday. read more
