Rhode Island has no shortage of clam shacks, lobster rolls, chowder houses, and seafood restaurants. I've been to most of them. Yet every summer, I find myself coming back to Blount again and again. It's one of those places that simply gets it right. One thing I make a point of doing is ordering something different almost every visit. Too many people find one favorite and never venture beyond it. At Blount, that would be a mistake because the menu is loaded with great options. On my most recent visit, I ordered the scallop roll. It was outstanding. Fresh, light, flavorful, and served on a perfectly buttered roll that complemented the seafood without overpowering it. Other visits have been all about the clam cakes, fried seafood, chowder, or one of their other sandwiches. Choosing what to order can actually be the hardest part of the experience. Fortunately, if there's a line, and there often is during the summer, you'll have plenty of time to study the menu and debate your decision. Trust me, you'll need it. Of course, the lobster roll is the headliner. It's the item most people associate with Blount, and there's a good reason for that. Yes, you'll pay a little more than you might elsewhere, but once it arrives you'll understand why. They don't skimp on portions. You're getting a substantial amount of lobster, and every bite tastes fresh and worth the price. Another personal favorite is the whole belly clam roll. If you've had a truly great whole belly clam roll, you know they're hard to forget. Blount's version ranks among the best I've had anywhere. The setup is part of the charm. You wait in line, place your order at what feels like a classic seaside food truck or trailer, then grab a seat under the large tent overlooking the water or at one of the nearby outdoor tables. It's casual, relaxed, and exactly how a Rhode Island summer meal should feel. The supporting cast deserves some praise as well. The fries are consistently excellent. The clam cakes are always fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly, personable, and genuinely helpful, even when they're dealing with long lines and busy crowds. I've never had an interaction that wasn't pleasant. What impresses me most is the consistency. Over the years, I've tried countless items from the menu, and I honestly can't think of a single thing I've regretted ordering. That's a rare accomplishment for any restaurant. I live in Lincoln and work in Boston, and whenever someone tells me they're visiting Rhode Island, Blount immediately goes on my list of recommendations. Yes, getting there may involve crossing the Washington Bridge, and that can sometimes test your patience. That's a discussion for another day. The important thing is that once you arrive and take that first bite, you'll forget all about the drive. Blount Clam Shack on the Waterfront isn't just a great seafood spot. Stopped in not realizing there was an outdoor seating location down the street. Ordered a large lobster roll with mayonnaise It came with 3 clam cakes. I added a white chowder for dipping my clam cakes. Excellent claw meat abundant in lobster roll , I slice lettuce just enough , roll butter toasted Very good lobster roll . Clam cakes very good but a few more clams in cake would have made them excellent Chowder was ok, needed more clams , I prefer a pepper , paprika kick. Add more butter to it like my Massachusetts clam chowders. Minimal seating inside, no outside tables, ... I had to eat on waterfront on rail across street. If I had know outside service and seating down the street .. I would have went there. But, all was good and no issues on my end... I would bring home more clam cakes next time . I live in Massachusetts but took the the ride to Warren RI for seafood. The food trucks are in a Buissness park right on the water in Warren, it's very beautiful There is plenty of parking and it's free. One's we parked we walked down and made the line to order your food. The line was very long but well worth the wait. We order at the window and they give you a buzzer that will notify you when your food is ready. We ordered the shrimp platter and the small lobster roll. The shrimp was fresh and the lobster roll was really good. The atmosphere is beautiful and very New England. My only complaint is they don't give enough food. The employees are very nice and everything is very clean. If you're in the area, eat here. read more

Okay this place was cool. We went on a holiday weekend so it was quieter and the ice cream spot next door was closed so I wonder if the lines weren't as long as usual. I will say by the time we left they started to get longer so maybe it was our timing because I've heard it's usually a long line, but we'll take it because it was quick! My husband loves fish and I just....don't. Their non-seafood options were limited but I could tell they fried them in a separate oil which is awesome. Although limited, they were great in taste. My husband loves every bite of his food. He bought the fried platter and was in heaven. The view is super cool and perfect to get some awesome photos of the bay. Overall, a great experience. Came in for lunch with several friends. You order at the shack and they give you a buzzer. The guy who checked me out wasn't super friendly. The food was cooked pretty quickly. I got the small buttered lobster roll. It was huge and hard to eat but super tasty! For a side I got the clam cakes. Also very tasty. This place is all about the vibes. Lots of families and friends, having fun eating outside and watching the boats come and go. Often people bring their dogs, sometimes cats ( on a leash, I swear it). The food is made and served from two trailers that they bring in for the season. The food is what you expect, I've never had anything bad but I've never had anything outstanding. I've been eating at seafood places and clam shacks for over 50 years and while I have my favorites in MA, RI and NH, I finally decided to give this place a try. My daughter and I are there for lunch last week. The New England chowder is just OK. Creamy, lots of potatoes, not a lot clams, a bit bland. I tried the stuffed scallop, which sounds great on paper but fails to deliver much. The clam cakes were average. Taking an additional star off because while the service was friendly, we waited forever on a not-very-busy weekday afternoon. Chowder came out first, then the stuffed scallop which turned out to be undercooked, and finally after a very long wait, the clam cakes. Why not all at once? Why so slow? It takes five minutes to fry a clam cakes. As has become my mantra with most mediocre experiences - I'll go back if someone else is paying next time. read more

I really enjoyed my time at Blount Clam Shack. The employees were extremely kind and offered suggestions. When we arrived around 3:00pm on a Monday, there was more than enough parking and it was not crowded. There was a great amount of seating as well. All tables were clean and the property is well maintained. Our food came out in about 5 minutes. We ordered a small Lobster Roll with Sweet Potato Fries and Coleslaw and a Giant Lobster Roll with Chowder and Coleslaw. We also got a side of fresh fruit. Our total was around $85.00. The Lobster Rolls were packed full of an immense amount of lobster, which was smothered in butter. The Chowder had a generous amount of cubed potatoes and clams. They have ropes to wind you around on single file -- in the heat for at least an hour. Just to then have a meal you've waited and sweat for, under a tent. It's all outside, granted the water is there and it's a nice view but I'm still hot from the hour long line wait. But, while you wait though you get to hear a middle aged white man playing guitar, if that's your fancy. I'd rather just listen to the dad rock yacht club station on my Spotify. Overall, I'd rather pay twice as much to wait and sit inside for food that's half as shitty, because the environment this establishment offers is just not worth it to me. Took Sunday drive and ended up at this fantastic lil place right on the water . Easy parking in crushed seashells like the old days. There's food trucks one with a full menu one with express easy items which was perfect for us just ordering chowder & clamcakes with a stuffie! We were so hungry we forgot to take photos the stuffie was out of this world best ever ! Full shrimp pieces of lobster & scallops it was the best I've ever had in a call shell$7 not bad at all! Then 3 clam cakes with white chowder which my husband said it was great! Turns out I don't like clams but if you do, you should eat here. I got the clam chowder and found the clams to be chewy (maybe I was eating them wrong? Do you just swallow it whole?) but the rest of the chowder was flavorful and I did my best to eat around the clams. I also had the fish Reuben which is a misnomer since it has cole slaw and not sauerkraut but semantics aside the fish was fried fresh and hot. The tarter sauce and cole slaw were delicious. I also tried their Clam Shack Summer Ale and at first was disappointed it was brewed in MA, but they make damn good beer there so I get it. I'm not from the area, but I hope I get to come back again! Went on this last Friday night June 2025. We had heard the jumbo lobster roll was smaller and bland and were praying it wasent true but when we tried it ourselves we unfortunately have to agree. It looks like Blounts changed the bread roll itself from previous years making it smaller. The amount of meat for $36 doesn't seem to match the amount in years past and the dill mayo was seemingly non existent. It also appeared Blounts is transitioning to a more lobster salad with small lobster pieces in the roll as opposed to the large lobster chunks the rolls had in years past. The Chourico clam cakes seemed to be cooked in oil that needs to be changed or they were sitting out too long because the batter was dark and chewy on the outside not light and crispy. We used to be willing to fork over the extra $ for the jumbo roll bc it was that much meat and had a great taste but we might find ourselves looking elsewhere for a go to lobster roll. Last thing I'll add, and had always been a pain point about this place, is adding another register to take orders. The line moves painfully slow as there is just one window taking orders. I would love to see the two windows taking orders and pick up move to the chowder/clam cake/drinks window. We'll probably be back but not too soon based on this recent experience. Perhaps it was just an off night. Almost forgot! They changed their Cole slaw recipe and it is definitely for the worse! No carrots or purple cabbage in this version. It is all white cabbage seemingly and the mayo/vinegar ratio seems off. I wish they would go back to the old recipe. read more

Got to come here before they close for the season, usually on my annual visit to New England. We came on a Saturday afternoon and there wasn't a line. Lots of people though but you can find a table with an umbrella for shade. My friend advised me to get the 1 pound lobster roll (Giant) with dill, cost about $36. The amount they give you is amazing. (Well you pay for it.) The lobster had a light seasoning and needed a tad bit more salt or lemon. It was still good in my opinion. My friends who come here all the time said their flavoring was lacking a little and missing the pickle. I guess when you don't know, its all good. The slaw was a nice complement. Blount is a family owned business that also operates a a co-packer for many popular grocery stores and restaurants throughout the US. Not only so they have the Clam Shack on the water, across the street is a fish market that also has the same food available for dine in or take out as the Clam Shack. Their clam chowder is the best I have ever eaten and can also be purchased in the fish store to enjoy at home. I had the clamcake and chowder combo and it did not disappoint. My husband ordered the chicken tenders which are made by Blount and there was more than enough to share. Crispy on the outside and warm on the inside they were very tasty. Our son ordered the fish and chips and ate every lat morsel. I guess he was happy with is choice too. If you like seafood, or if you prefer a burger or chicken, there is something for everyone at Blount. read more

It is my favorite Clam Shack on the East Bay Whole Belly Clam Roll on a grilled bun with clam fritters and clam chowder. Shrimp Wrap- fried shrimp with lettuce, fresh salsa, Kick 'N'Bayou sauce. The fried shrimp wrap was delicious. The fried shrimp was fried lightly and you could still taste the shrimp. The sauce was a nice kick too but it wasn't too spicy, just a nice kick. The wrap was crispy and had a great crunch with the freshness of the salsa. I usually get the lobster roll here, but I really wanted those whole belly clams The whole belly clam roll was delicious! Very nicely fried, it was light and you could still taste those clams. I added a little Tatar sauce to the roll and a little lemon for freshness. The clam fritters are delicious with chunks of clams in the fritter. And when you dunk the fritters in the clam chowder that clam taste really pops out!! We stopped after a visit to Colt State Park. Beautiful location right on the water. Everything is outside, ordering, pick up and dining. We arrived and thankfully there was only a couple people in line ahead of us, they have large menu boards to look at while you're waiting your turn to order. Unfortunately, they don't have prices listed for a bunch of the pricier items that have 'market price' so we had to pick backups in case we thought the price was too much. They things we picked ended up being priced we were satisfied with so I ordered the small lobster roll with butter with fries and my husband ordered the fried scallops with fries. I loved my lobster roll and my husband was happy with his scallops, but neither of us cared for the fries. The cole slaw was delicious! It was a beautiful day for sitting outside, but I'm not sure I would want to sit outside if the weather was too hot or too cold. We would stop here again. read more

Not much mayo and spices which was great with huge chunks of claw meat. "Coleslaw" which was good was almost more of a small container of salad made from broccoli. The clam strips were okay hush puppies but not over the top. The beer was ehh, not a quality beer compared to food. They need a better selection from micro brewery's near by. Great location on the water and plenty of seating. While it may have open at 11:30 there was already a line 15 deep. I do recommend for lunch or dinner. read more

The new. England clam chowder , clam cakes and the chourico stuffy were just ok. The chowder didn't have a lot of clams and lacked flavor. The stuffy also lack flavor and ingredients like clams and chourico. To me it's texture was a little off putting. I would Described it as a mealy texture and it didn't taste like was cooked long enough. Clam cakes weren't greasy but they Hardly had any clams in them . I would never get those items here again. The giant lobster roll was 5 stars and I would order again . It had 1/2 lb of really good quality lobster meat for a good price. I had the lobster with butter. The burgers also looked amazing and my nephews loved them. The whole belly clams my friend let me try were also great . Plan B kicks in so I order the Clam Shack Clam Chowder. Made with sweet cream and loaded with chunks of fresh clams and potatoes. The perfect chowder to enjoy dockside. My small Lobster Roll is anything but small. The 1/4 pound of lobster they served on a grilled roll and lightly tossed lobster in warm butter is just what the harbormaster ordered. Pure perfection. As a non-native RI resident, we tried our share of clam shacks as a novelty when we moved here. This is by far one of our favorites. Great ambiance on the water. Typically crowded in season but usually a table opens up by the time you've made it through the line. We love the fish sandwich and the lobster roll is great as well. Pricing is what you would expect. Free refills on soft drinks! There is an ice cream window there now but we haven't tried it yet.
