I ordered Kadaai chicken upon returning and it was a culinary delight. Medium spice was perfect, and the cardamom added a lot of flavor to this dish. This was my second visit to Anjappar! We went on a beautiful Thursday night for dinner, I had gone previously for lunch on a Saturday. We were seated right away and brought water. There's plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, as well as bar seating inside. The ambiance is beautiful. The music is great too. We stared with drinks, I had a glass of Riesling and my daughter had a glass of Rose'. She had the Butter Chicken and I ordered the special Anjappar Masala with Lamb. My food was spicier than I expected, so they gave me a yogurt sauce on the side to help calm the spice, it was perfect!! The garlic naan was perfect too. The Butter Chicken is absolutely delicious. I arrived on a Friday night to find only one open table inside (they did have outdoor seating, but it was a bit of a sticky night). The menu is South Indian and broad, and I spent a lot of time thinking about it. I was thrilled with what I ended up with. Starting with idiyappam got me some rice noodle balls delivered on a banana leaf, which always adds to the atmosphere, as well as a delectable light curry I'd never tried before. I ordered what I thought would be a more generic bhindi masala, and when it arrived I looked at it a few times because it was quite a different preparation than the numerous other renditions I've had. The ample vegetable gravy had a tangy, tingly spice mix that feels distinctive to Tamil cuisine in my experience and ordering it spicy got me some kind of high-end chili peppers mixed in. It was an excellent experience. I was also awarded complimentary papadum to start. I got a masala coke; I don't think I've drunk a coke in years but watching the amount of work that went into this beverage was interesting. The result didn't really impress me; the spices simply overwhelm whatever flavor the soda has (not a trivial task) and make it taste a little dry. Nonetheless, I could not accuse this place at any point of failing to put in effort or deliver flavor. read more

Visited Anjappar on multiple occasions and I am surprised I haven't reviewed it yet. The food is great - it is a mix of both north and South Indian cuisines. The location is bit tucked away but it is a quite solid Indian food stop near Apex/Cary border. The service is quick and ambiance is nice/modern new restaurant feel. We were visiting family here in Raleigh and decided to give this place a try. A big PLUS - they are serving buffet. Another PLUS - they have outdoor seating. It was perfect for a fall day, to sit outside and eat your favorite comfort food. We loved chicken and fish appetizers - fried chicken and fried fish were crisp yet flavorful. Tandoori chicken was tender, and full of flavor. I also enjoyed gobi 65 - so yum! In main course I enjoyed chole-bhature. Chicken biryani was okay. Lamb curry was okay too - lamb was a little too over cooked for my taste. Disappointed with live dosa - it was soft/soggy from the second it came off the tava. And no one likes soggy dosa. Desserts were tasty and it was good to see variety. Chutneys were tasty too as well as my favorite curd rice - alone of the best I had in restaurant lately. My friends and I came to try the lunch buffet on a Sunday afternoon. I could not find the price anywhere online, but I called ahead and found out it was $23.99 per person, which I thought was fair. The restaurant was very crowded and there were no tables inside, so we decided to sit outside. It was extremely hot/humid so maybe this wasn't the best choice, but we were hungry. In terms of service, there was not much provided. Once we were seated we were given utensils and water, but there was not much waiter service outside of that. The buffet had a lot of meat dishes but there were a few vegetarian options as well. I'm not well versed in Indian food, but there seemed to be a good selection overall, and I enjoyed almost everything I tried. I thought the naan was exceptional! - one of the best I've ever had. My favorite dish ended up being the tandoori grilled fish because it was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor. I will for sure be back sometime to try their other menu options! read more

Our family was really excited about trying about this restaurant. Expected to love it. However it turned out to be entirely disappointing. The minute we were served the naan, we knew the rest of the culinary story would not be good. The naan tasted and looked like it came from the Food Lion -- did not look hand-made or fresh. The chicken tikka masala had a good sauce but the chicken itself was really really tough and unflavorable. I rate a good Indian restaurant just by how satisfying this dish was and it didn't even deserve a mediocre rating. None of us liked the samosas which were hard with a super-spicy interior. I asked for mint sauce and when it arrived, we just stared at it --- really watery and unappetizing looking. That is exactly how it tasted too. Even the rice which accompanied our meal felt like it was made several days before. On top of our poor meal, everything came to the table ice-cold. Serving staff was not particularly friendly and we had to ask for water/ice numerous times (one of which had the waitress rolling her eyes at the ceiling). We will not be back. Once a year they serve an Indian-wedding style lunch on banana leaves. You have to eat with your hands, as well. It is a unique, traditional experience! The food is spicy but tasty. My family and I had a great time. The servers apparently worked late into the night and came early in the morning 4 am to set everything up. They brought a lot of enthusiasm and care into the food. It was perfect) and our waiter recommended the chicken shahi korma because we were debating between chicken tikka masala and butter chicken for the second dish, and he said the shahi korma was a perfect mix of both. Beware of the sanitation issues I have eaten a lot of times in Anjappar and always liked their food. But yesterday, when we ordered Kheema Biryani, we found a dead cockroach after going home. You can see the roach on the top left of the plate at home. We are never going back to Anjappr again. This is my second review on this restaurant. Anjappar is a beautiful, modern Indian restaurant with comfy booths and tables. The buffet has over 50 dishes, tons of meat and vegetarian options, chai, juice, and desserts. Everything is mouthwatering and delicious. The staff is very attentive, welcoming, and make you feel at home. We love all the chicken, seafood, and mutton dishes. On saturdays they have a special dosa station and on sundays they have a pomfret fish fry. Anjappar is our weekend tradition now. 10/10 recommend read more

We decided to try Anjappar after seeing the great reviews & honestly, it did not disappoint. This is by far one of the better Indian restaurants in the area. Food was flavorful and generous. We ordered the paneer kulcha, ghee roast dosa & baingan bartha. This was more than enough food for two of us. Portion sizes were very generous leaving us plenty of leftovers to enjoy again. As we sat down, we were offered bottled water and complimentary pappadum with onion chutney. The dosa was a surprise since we didn't expect that presentation. It was definitely an attention getter at about 3' long! It was deliciously crispy and buttery. It was served with sambar & 2 chutneys...coconut & tomato...both very good. The baingan bartha was delicious...flavorful and delightfully smokey. Service did get a little harried since they were short handed plus they were inundated with guests and take out orders.
