Id post some lovely before and after photos to show you what a great job she did but Yelp apparently only lets you do that if you use their obnoxious phone app they want you to download. I called once and Misty got back to me right away. Misty is always booked so be prepared to wait two weeks for your appointment but believe its worth the wait. I hate that I have to write a bad review because Misty was really nice but she turned my hair orange! I came in for blonde highlights, my hair had been blonde for 15 years and she told me my hair would look stripey ( if a hair dresser tells you that they dont know how to do highlights) so she reccomended a root touch up and said it would blend nicely. My whole top of my head turned orange, similar to a box dye job!! In all my years of dying my hair I've never had a hair dresser turn my hair orange, She then tried to tone it twice to fix it and it didn't work. I felt like she didn't listen to me when I came in asking for highlights and I felt like she didn't want to take the time and tried to do a rush job to make a buck. When I was leaving she told me if I can't live with it to come back but if my hair can't be fixed after two attempts at the salon I couldn't see trying a third time to fix it. I had to go to a different salon and pay $250 to fix my hair on top of the $160 I paid Misty. Such a waste of money. read more

This is the truth all you women out there! I moved here 2 years ago and have gone to the finest salons. I'm not going to go into the horror stories as it would take me a year, but suffice it to say I was on the verge of coloring and cutting my own hair from Ytube videos when a groupon popped up on my email. I thought.....how much worse could it get for them to straighten out the mess from the salon before so I set up an appt. with Kathleen. Seriously, I was going in for a trim and I was out of there!!! BUT.......I stayed for 2 hours having it conditioned, cut and colored. This was the first week in May. I have waited to write a review because I wanted to see how my hair reacted for a few weeks. My hair is GORGEOUS!!!! Kathleen is brilliant!! I have very fine hair and I looked like I had come out of an electrical storm even tho I have every product in the world. She explained why my hair was looking like it was (semi-permanent hair color vs. permanent hair color on fine hair). What a lesson! She was so full of information I asked if she had time to condition and color and she took the time. I am a brunette and I finally got a brilliant shade of brunette this time with no red in it!!!! The cut is so precise that, honestly, I don't have to do a thing to my hair for days!!! The products she uses are so different from any other salon and believe me, girls, there was no pressure to purchase at all. Misty was also in on the color and that is so nice that they work together to make sure you are happy and......this time I got a real blowout from Kathleen. I could have gone to a party right afterwards!! They both told me there was no way I was going to walk out of their salon unhappy and I didn't! I, like others found Misty through Groupon. And I'm so glad I did!! I have had trouble finding a stylist since moving down to San Diego (which is probably why I waited two years between cuts haha). I couldn't be any happier with the way it turned out. I love that she listens to what you want, and asks questions. After our discussion, I felt confident enough to let her cut over 12 inches off! What can I say except that Misty is awesome. I just had my second baby and my hair was a dried out desert and she got it looking healthy in no time. I had originally gone in wanting highlights, but she took one look at my hair and was like you need a Keratin treatment!! So I took her professional opinion, held off on the highlights, and got the Keratin treatment that I had purchased off Groupon...my hair never looked better. Her color technique is spot on and she has to be one of the best colorists I have ever been to. Misty did a great job taking my lion mane of a head and making it behave with a keratin treatment. Even though I had just had my hair cut and colored she re-cut the hair now that it lays differently. It is not stick straight, still has some wave. The keratin treatment lasted 3 months! I'm booking another appointment now. I don't normally write reviews but I had my last appointment with Misty today. I am moving and I am so saddened to leave her! She has been the best hair stylist I have had in many years. She knows what my hair needs and always talks me through what she is doing. My first appointment she talked to me about what would be best because I have 'special' hair (my words not hers). I have curly hair with like 5 different types of curls, it is thin and fine and very blond with grey, which is more like a white. In other words I got a lot goin' on here. She took the time on the very first appointment to get my history and what I am looking for. She knows her stuff and her prices are more then reasonable. I recommend her and will miss her dearly. I've been going to Misty for about a year now and I can't recommend her enough! She is amazing! I have really fine, thin hair and have struggled with it for at least 20 years. I've never been as happy with my hair as I have been since finding her! She's very consistent, very talented and experienced, and her prices are reasonable. Her new salon is really well designed and has a nice, comfortable spa feel. On top of everything, she's just a good person. I have been to Blu August Salon about 3 times now and have had a great experience each time. I was very surprised when I walked inside for the first with how nice it was. They did a great job decorating it and giving it a comfortable and classy feel. Luckily I have gone on workday afternoons so there hasn't really been a wait, but there is a large stack of magazines and water to keep you busy while waiting. Misty, the owner, is very friendly and listens to exactly what you want as far as your haircut; she is not pushy with ideas and puts your needs/wants first. I purchased a Groupon to try Blu August Salon for the first time. I called and scheduled an 8:00 am appointment for 3 weeks later. I arrived shortly before my appointment time and found the salon closed. I waited until around 8:10 to call the owner, Misty. She called me right back and told me that she thought I sent a text to cancel the day prior. I did not cancel, of course, and can only assume that she confused myself and another client. Misty apologized for the mistake, which I appreciated, but I was very disappointed to have wasted my time and to not have a haircut. I came here on a Groupon deal--I was suppose to see Misty but since she was booked I had the pleasure of having Erin do my hair. The salon is fairly small but super cute! I loved the little sitting area and the decor. They offered beverages as well which is cool. I came in for a wash, cut, and style and Erin did a great job on my hair. She asked me tons of questions to get a better idea of what I wanted. She didn't get scissor happy or anything, I know that's always a big concern. Amazing salon! Jamie B does my hair and I have followed her from place to place because she is incredible. She recently did a total make over on me by cutting 11 inches and putting in low lights. I had been thinking about a change like this for over a year, but Jamie gave me the courage to take the step. 2014 is off to a great start for me with this fun, new look. I am a huge stickler about my hair. I moved to SD from the SB area and was making the 4 hour drive every 6 weeks to get my hair done but it was taking a toll on my wallet! I went in again and wanted a bit more of a change and wanted to go very blonde. Lauren was great and talked to me about price, process, and what would work best for my hair. Followed my hair stylist Marissa there when she moved salons. Absolutely adore this salon, very cozy and you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. Marissa is one of the nicest/outgoing stylists I have ever met, I have been going to her for a few years and I will continue to go to her!
