I went in with a Groupon for a discounted shampoo, blow-dry, cut, and style. My stylist was Erin and, let me tell you, she gave me the best salon and hair cutting experience I've ever had! I had no idea what I wanted so she was very thorough with the questions she asked me about how I wanted my hair cut. I seriously have never had someone capture exactly what I wanted done without me giving any direction. She is the ONLY, and I mean ONLY, stylist that has ever understood and executed (with perfection) the big, beautiful beach curls that I've always wanted! Plus the salon is adorable! Well, Misty should have seen this review coming. Groupon buyers, beware, because she will make up upgrade costs off the top of her hair! I purchased the deal for a cut, condition, crown highlights and blow dry. When I scheduled my appointment, I asked her about having ombré instead, and she quoted me $25-$65 extra. So the day of my appointment, she said it would be $65, but hold on, really it should be done in two separate phases, one to dye my whole hair one color and another to put the contrast in, so really it would be $40 today and $85 on the next visit. Ok... So I went home with the dye job, a 4 minute hair cut, and wet hair since we were going to "save" my blow dry for the next visit. That night after my hair dried, I saw my haircut was crooked, so she was happy to have me back the next week to fix it. The ombré would have to wait another month though. I didn't want to pay her any more money as I was losing my confidence in her abilities, so I went in thinking I would just get the crown highlights that I'd already paid for. I asked her to keep them subtle as I wanted to grow my hair out, so she suggested that for an additional $40 she would put some dark highlights in to help it blend. Good point, or so I thought, so I asked her again about the ombré and she said it would cost the same. Big mistake. Her idea of a subtle ombré was to darken my roots only, and not touch my ends. No lowlights, nothing! When she was done, I literally thought she was kidding. My hair looked one nice, even color, roots to end. She even had to take me out into the sun to try to convince me that my roots were darker than the ends. Barely perceivable difference, even in the sun! So what would it take for her to put some highlights in the bottom to make it look like ombré? That would be an additional $85 and another appointment. No thanks Misty. You and I clearly have different definitions of what ombré is. And thanks for your text message upon my post, do you now understand my concerns a bit better? read more

I found Blu August Salon on Groupon and had an appointment with Cheryl Montreal who has now become my hair cut and highlight go to girl! I actually had her cut over a foot of hair off on my first appointment to get the long bob look and I love it! I haven't had an actual hairstyle in forever! She spent so much time and effort making sure I got exactly what I wanted and even called to check on how I liked my cut/highlights a few days after my appointment. I've gotten so many compliments on my new style! I have now been back to see her 3 times and look forward to every appointment. The salon is wonderful and every employee kind and professional. I get compliments all the time on my hair(color,cut etc...) she is not only an amazing artist but also one of the most genuine, upstanding, wonderful people I have ever met, I have seen her every 5 weeks for yrs ( I am high maintainence lol) & am always grateful to have her amazing gift in my life, i revere here as a dear friend now solely from my start with her as my stylist. I visited the salon based on the reviews, and unfortunately, was disappointed, because I expected a higher lever of professionalism and skills. The hairstylist double booked me as if expecting that I won't show up, so had to split her time between two customers (the other customer was her regular while I was the first time client) and then rush to finish my cut in order to begin working with another customer. I had a basic request to trim and shape my long hair style, however, the hairstylist cut off way too much and gave her own interpretation of how my hair style should be, disregarding my request. Additionally, the stylist had long and sharp nails which made it painful to endure hair wash which should be relaxing. I would not recommend to dig in like that as it makes it very unpleasant and not relaxing, be more soothing and gentle instead! I will not use this salon or recommend it to any of my friends. read more

I had a bad experience but the owner, Misty, really took the effort to get me in there and make sure I left happy. I'm very happy with the quality of the cut but mostly the customer service. She made a point to work with my schedule and really listened to what I wanted but gave a professional opinion on how we could very slightly tweak it to get the best results. I went in to Blu August last week to get my hair done by the owner, Misty. I came in with grown out color that turned into an ombré sort of look...it was unappealing & pretty grimy looking to me. Misty suggested I add onto the groupon I had purchased & add some toner overall to the high lites, it look good in the end, but the color on the bottom was a little drab & it was my 21st birthday the next week. I called to tell her it wasn't exactly the color I was hoping for and she was so sweet about it. She booked me for the next morning, came in early because she was so booked for the next three weeks..as if that's not an excellent hair stylist, let me continue...she made the color PERFECT. Exactly what I wanted, a brighter color. I can't recommend her enough, it was the best birthday gift & I finally found my go to hair stylist. She goes above & beyond for her clients. I purchased a Groupon for a cut, highlight, and style at Blue August Salon. I am generally a very patient person and understand working in serving the public. You can't please everyone, but I was very unsatisfied with my experience at this particular salon. First, I arrived early to my appointment only to find that a previous client had been late so my appointment would not start for another 30 mins (not the salons fault) so I was very understanding and waited my turn until I realized that the woman sitting next to me was scheduled to go at at same time I was (double booking) which is ok if handled properly. IT WASNT!!! I was shafted and when it was finally my turn to have a consult the stylist told me she was not going to use foils for my highlights but was going to "brush" in the bleach!!!!!!! It turned out terrible!!!! My base color was broken and my roots were completely bleached a different color blonde than the rest of my hair! When I left the salon I was mortified. I called the stylist after I had tried to calm down a little and she basically told me that it looked good and it was just that I was not used to it. This is NOT professional. I have had blonde hair my whole life and I know what is good color and what is not! I had just moved here and was trying to find someone to do my hair in the area! Lesson learned. This place is an absolutel gem. Misty is adorable and did an amazing job on my hair. She listened and talked with me to figure out exactly what I was wanting and gave me suggestions on what would look best. She did a fantastic job with my highlights and I feel like a whole new person with the cut she gave me. It refreshed my hair and just made me feel great. I was a little apprehensive about trying a new place, because the Marine Corps Ball that my husband and I are attending is this weekend and I didn't want hair that I was unhappy with, but I could not possibly be happier right now. She talked to me like I was one of her " girlfriend's", which was greatly appreciated. She offered me a refreshment or even a glass of wine, which is above and beyond what stylists have to do. I read on here that someone was complaining about not receiving their glass of wine, but let's remember that this is a hair salon people...not a bar. Saw the groupon, called and spoke w/ Misty the owner. She didn't have an appt available as soon as I needed it so she gave me Kathleen's name and number. I scheduled w/ Kathleen who is awesome! My hair looks and feels better than it has in years. I never did buy the groupon but they honored the price for me. Kathleen is very friendly, intelligent, knowledgeable and flexible. She gave me a great cut and highlights. The salon is easy to find with adequate parking, very clean and cute. I liked that the salon is small and intimate, you get a lot of one on one attention. Kathleen took her time with me and never tried to push me to buy any products. One of the highlights turned out a bit too blonde for my taste so I called her up the next day, she had me come back and added some lowlights, gave me a relaxing shampoo and conditioner, all for no cost. I have been going to Jamie Brezo for a couple of years now. There are lots of reasons to love Jamie's work. First, she's extraordinarily talented both with cut an color. I'm a woman of a certain age who does not want to look like I am. Jamie's ability to help me look more youthful while keeping me age appropriate is wonderful. I love the vibe of this Salon!! As soon as you walk in you feel welcome and relaxed. Cheryl is my stylist. She recently cut my hair (which was still a little bit of a dead end mess from trying to go blonde years ago) and did an amazing job, she cut just enough off that it was still long, but also finally looked fully healthy again which was exactly what I asked her to do. So many people commented on how healthy my hair looked after. She also cut my children's hair (age 10, 9 and 1 1/2 years old) and did an amazing job even with my little boy who doesn't always sit still and tends to squirm. I'll defiantly be getting my families hair cut by Cheryl in the future! I'm impressed by her contagious upbeat personality and how she conducted herself in a very professional manor. She has also cuts my friends hair and colors and cuts my little sisters hair and always has done an amazing job for them. I moved to Cali from Seattle and I have been searching and searching for a salon and stylist that I "jelled" with...needless to say I could not find one so I have been flying home to Seattle to get my hair done every two months. On a whim I went to Blu August...the salon is small, intimate...very elegant looking with a cool vibe. To my surprise my stylist Misty was also the owner. Finding the right personality in a stylist is crucial, especially if you are going to be sitting in their chair for two hours. Misty was super fun, energetic and we got on famously! I have blonde hair down to my waste so I am super picky about where I go and who I let touch my hair! I was so excited at the end of my visit that I had Misty take a picture of me so that I could send it to my stylist in Seattle to tell her that I had finally found a place that I would continue to go to in Cali! I really enjoyed my experience at Blu August Salon a lot and I had GREAT service. My hair looks gorgeous. I had a groupon so I decided to check it out and met with my stylist Theresa who I would HIGHLY recommend. She really cared about her work. She had a great consult, talked with me so she understood exactly what I wanted and then, made it happen! I felt so great after I left with my color and she even blow dried it to perfection. I asked to come back for a toner in between my next cut and color with her and she dropped the price for me without having to at all just so she could still make my hair look flawless. Also, she just had great customer service. She told me about this little place to eat in Escondido (and my friends and I actually went there and enjoyed it). Just a great time, beautiful hair. I finally found my stylist! I can't recommend he enough. I honestly believe that if for any reason you don't' like her work (and I know you will) she'll work at it until both of you think it is perfect. read more
