We enjoyed dinner on the sidewalk at Blu Wolf Bistro on Park Ave. My son had a Mac Daddy Burger with cheese sauce and a deep fried mac and cheese patty, huge spiral fries, and a cereal milkshake. Steak Caesar for me. This would easily have been a five star review on the delicious food alone, but our server was horrible. He never came back after taking our order. He didn't bring our drinks. The appetizer and entrees came together. We asked the person who brought our food to get the server so we could get our drinks -- but he never came. Finally we got another server to do it. It was only when we asked another server to get us the check that our assigned server came out. We will probably try again, though if we get the same server will ask for another. read more

I've been to Blu Wolf Bistro a few times, but went for a late lunch recently and had a pretty good experience. The food was much better than in past visits, and being able to sit outside in the nice weather was great. I ordered the poutine tots for an app and they were delicious. The gravy was pretty salty, but I didn't mind. The tots were perfectly crispy and there were tons of cheese curds melted in. It also had crispy onion strings and scallions. I originally ordered pork bulgogi tacos for my entree, but our server came back to tell me the menu was out of date and they actually didn't have those anymore. So I got the chicken and waffles instead. When my entree came, they were out of gravy, but I actually prefer maple syrup so I got that instead. They were also out of the beer my brother ordered, so that's three things that we had to change throughout the meal. It wasn't a huge deal, but also not the first time I've been here and they've run out of things. Seems to be a continual problem. Our server was attentive and friendly, but the kitchen was slow. People who arrived after us got their orders before us, which I know sometimes happens depending on what is ordered, but it was just a burger and chicken and waffles. Nothing too complicated. Luckily we weren't in a hurry, but I was still a little annoyed by the wait. Okay, wow. When this place first opened up, I was obsessed. A true ride or die for Blu Wolf. But then, all of a sudden, something changed. I don't know if they switched cooks, or if they got lazy once this place became an established part of the brunch scene, but MAN! I wanted to give you guys the benefit of the doubt, so I kept coming back. But each time, it fell short. My biggest complaint is that the quality of the food has severely gone down since they first opened. The first time I got the bbq pulled pork Mac and cheese sandwich, it was mind-blowing. The bread was toasted well, the Mac and cheese was gooey, the pulled pork was coated in a generous helping of sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. But the last few times? I don't even recognize the sandwich anymore. The one I most recently had lacked the substance of previous sandwiches. Upon inspection, it looked as if they just threw cooked macaroni on the pork, with very little cheese to justify called it a grilled cheese. They weren't as generous with the bbq sauce either. Another thing that threw me off--although I suppose this might be normal, and I've just never seen it before--was that on Sunday they switch menus at a certain time and stop serving brunch foods. The main staples that people come here for--hangover bowls, chicken and waffles, etc.--were unavailable. This was particularly disappointing because I had told a bunch of people i was with about how those were one of the best things about Blu Wolf, and they didn't even get to try them (although, again, the last couple times I got bowls, they were disappointing). I just....don't understand. How could you let the quality of your food descend so far below what you initially wow'd Rochester with? I am sad. read more

So there is a lot to unpack here so I'll try to categorize each portion of my brunch. Wait time was 25 min. Actually less than I'd expect at a brunch rush. Easily can go walk on Park Ave while you wait. Conveniently, you're able to get a text message to advise that your table is ready. Service was great handling the demand from the brunch rush. Our server was friendly and you can tell he tried to make sure all the tables were taken care of. Chicken and Waffles entree was incredibly disappointing. The chicken was crunchy on the outside and very moist on the inside. However, seasoning was non-existent. It really needed salt and possibly a slight kick to give a depth of complex flavors which would have played well with the sweetness of the maple syrup. The gravy tasted like turkey gravy; groundbreaking. I think it should have been omitted. To add a possible spin to play sweet with the spice, a Thanksgiving chicken and waffles would have been great adding cranberry sauce and the savory gravy; making it a playful sweet and savory dish. The waffle was well, a waffle. It is a blank palate that can take on any flavor you add to it. Unfortunately, the waffle was on the same level of no flavor as everything else. Vegetarians and vegans, pay attention here... The burger and fries with the meat substituted with a quinoa patty tasted like toasted quinoa with zero thought to what flavor it should be. If it had roasted garlic or even some roasted red peppers, that would have elevated the flavor. With meat substitutes, seasoning is essential. Missed opportunity is more like it. A note about the interior is that it comes across as part sports bar, part bistro. Didn't help that some random guy started doing push-ups on the floor near the bar. Possibly a beta male mating ritual. I don't even know. Overall, I can't see myself coming back here for food. Can maybe give them an opportunity to redeem themselves with drinks some evening but I'll need time to forget the void of flavor. If you can't taste due to Covid or think salt is spicy, then you'll be fine eating here. A new chef or a new menu might be needed if this experience is typical of this venue. Please know, the staff was friendly and the restaurant was very clean. Surprisingly not as loud as you'd expect from brunch, which was refreshing. read more

Up here on business and with some coworkers who like beer so while looking around on Yelp I found this place which has a LOAD of beers on tap. I don't drink beer, but I liked what was on their food menu so I was sure this place would make us all happy. It did and here's how! Atmosphere/Appearance: Right on the corner of Park Ave and Berkeley is this very cool spot. Big glass windows out front for people watching, outdoor seating during the warmer months, a medium-sized dining room with a full bar available. Lol, so I had to make sure I shouted her out. She took great care of us, was fun, made sure we had everything we needed and made us laugh. We appreciate you. Food: I went with the Wild Game Burger because it seemed the most exciting. It actually changes all the time so the one I had may be different from one you may get in the future! Mine was was made up of bison and boar. It came with my choice of cheese, leafy greens, bacon and grilled onions. It was decent, but didn't blow me away. I probably would go a different route next time. The sweet potato fries I had were VERY good though. Value: Burger hit me for $18.00. That's steep fam, but you have to pay for the "exotic" meats! Burgers there start at $14.00 anyway, but go up to $35.00 if you're brave enough to do the Blu Wolf Challenge! You are some kind of human being if you can put away 4 1/2 pound burgers, bacon, meat sauce, two mac daddy patties (fried macaroni & cheese patties), cheddar cheese, cheese sauce, tomato, lettuce, onion, pickle, a pound of bent arm fries and lastly... a milkshake. Like, wow. If you look up on the wall nearest the door, you'll see a list of everyone who have actually accomplished this feat and a list of people who haven't. I had a wonderful meal at the Blu Wolf Bistro with my friend and her boyfriend. To start, we all shared the blue bowl shared cocktail which was absolutely delicious. The pretzel fondue wasn't quite fondue. It was a typical puffy pretzel stick appetizer with a kind of watery cheese sauce. Rather than the cheese sauce being the standout, it was the honey mustard that was absolutely delicious. Even after we finished the pretzel sticks, I kept eating the honey mustard with other parts of my meal. Additionally, the service was great and we got all of these items quite promptly. For our entrees, I got a burger and my friend got the chicken and waffles. The burger was pretty much an average burger--good quality but nothing particularly special, fresh, or of an outstanding quality. My friend really enjoyed her chicken and waffles topped with a fried egg. Overall, the food quality was quite good, the menu options were fun, and the outdoor seating had a great vibe. My first impression of Blu Wolf was that they play loud music at 2pm on Sunday for no reason. My husband and I could barely hear our server or each other. As has become the norm at trendy new restaurants, the vegetarian offerings are disappointing. None of the sandwiches, entrees, or big salads are meatless. Beef burgers cost between $14 and $17, and you can pay $2 to swap in quinoa burger for any of them (why quinoa costs more than beef, I'm not sure). I had a cappuccino, which was good and came out fast. We had the spinach arancini as an appetizer, which had nice flavors but wasn't warm at all. It took about 40 minutes for our entrees to come out. The house salad was large but unimpressive - really just some spring mix, carrots, and dressing. The tomato bisque was good with lots of garlic and a mini grilled cheese, but again, could have been warmer. My husband's Green Thumb quinoa burger came with huge strips of bacon on it. We alerted our server, who seemed confused as to why we thought bacon on a veggie burger was weird. After we looked at the menu and confirmed that bacon was not listed on the quinoa burger's menu ingredients, the server said he would "talk to Kevin about it", whoever that is. He also told us that the more he thought about it, the more he realized that it would be weird for the veggie burger to come with bacon. After waiting so long for food and not wanting to hang out for another 40 minutes, my husband took the bacon off and ate the burger. It was - you guessed it - not hot. The sweet potato fries that came with it were tasty and the only food we had that was at the right temperature. The server asked if the burger was going to be okay, and we said it was fine because we were hungry and wanted to get out of there. No manager came over to talk to us, which was the biggest disappointment. The server offered to take the burger off the bill and was apologetic, and of course the quality and the timing of the food were not his fault, but there were too many issues at Blu Wolf to consider returning. read more

Holy brunch! This place was amazing! Unfortunately, we had a table of 7 during the mid-afternoon, and they didn't have room to seat us inside, so we had to eat outside and it was a bit chilly therefore, I wasn't able to check out the inside of the establishment. (What a long run on sentence!) So, I can't really give you a solid description of this Blu Wolf Bistro, but what I can say is that my meal was incredible. I opted for the breakfast chimichanga with the two for one mimosas! I win. The chimichanga was filled with salsa, eggs, chorizo and peppers. It was topped with sour cream and guacamole and it was so, so good and exactly what I needed after a night out. The only thing that could have made this better was queso! My meal also came with a side of breakfast potatoes and they were alright. They got cold quickly, but that could just be from having to sit outside. They have an entire section of the menu dedicated to hangover bowls as well (eggs topped with random goodness and the list is extensive). My husband and friend chose those and it really hit the spot for them as well. The service was a little slow, but they were packed on the inside, so I totally get it. I don't remember our waitress' name, but she was very nice. My recommendation: Definitely check this place out and if you are going, save yourself some time and make a reservation. Had a fantastic experience at Blu wolf recently. We stopped in late on a Friday evening and were promptly greeted by the hostess who allowed us to choose our own seating. Blu Wolf specializes in a variety of different burgers including traditional beef, turkey, black bean or even wild boar. What makes the burgers unique is their "Wolf Sauce," and interesting toppings such as macaroni and cheese or sandwiches encased in grilled cheese. We were feeling adventurous and ordered the "Cheese Me Baby" with a black bean burger substitute, side of fries, bacon on the side and an additional side of macaroni and cheese. The Cheese Me Baby burger was HUGE! Easily enough for two people to share. I was actually only able to eat 1/4th of the sandwich and woke up the next morning still feeling full. My advice, go to Blu Wolf on an empty stomach and share your meal with someone. Our server, Erica, was very kind. Shout-out to her for amazing service. We didn't love the side of Mac and cheese and she took care of our concern on record time. Awesome customer service. We also tried the blueberry long island per her recommendation and it was perfect. I hadn't been back to Blu Wolf in a while, but my family was in town and I wanted to try it out again. This was, without a doubt, the best food I have had at Blu Wolf and definitely earned that fifth star. We had a party of 8 on a Sunday afternoon/evening and they were able to easily accommodate us. That was refreshing after having some issues with places being able to accommodate a party of that size in a reasonable amount of time. Our waitress was amazing, attentive but not too hover-y. And she dealt with all 8 of us pretty seamlessly. The best part of Blu Wolf, though, was undoubtedly the food. My fiance had the Mac Daddy and it was AMAZING. The best he had ever had and cooked exactly as he asked. I had the Chester and it was such a refreshing, fun burger. I loved it. My sister, a notoriously picky eater, at the bacon mac and cheese and could not have been happier. She didn't leave a single piece of pasta on her plate. It was amazing. The interior is open, with an average sized bar, high top tables by the large windows, and large booths for groups. I have been here multiple times and tried all sorts of dishes on their menu but I have come to order the same dish every time I go. On date night I order the Cajun Shrimp Caesar Salad, they order the Cajun Shrimp & Chicken pasta; and we share it: delicious!! The drinks are BOMB: I've been loving the coconut lemonade and the blackberry____ The service is a little inconsistent. The waitresses I've had have been friendly and the food has been delicious, however, there have been times when I waited a long time for my dish and I've had one or two occasions of the waitress not coming back to check on us. I've also had a few occasions of waiting for a host/hostess (or not receiving a FRIENDLY greeting). They weren't experiences that would deter me from returning, but maybe something to keep in mind. What a spectacular, welcoming space to grab food and a drink in Rochester! They have an outdoor patio, a long bar inside, and lots of booths and high tops. The brunch was fantastic with "hangover bowls" that piled the magic high to make your fun Saturday night hangover disappear. I consider this restaurant a "holiday" spot, because I only find myself at these locations at most once a year. I've only had 3 experiences at Blu Wolf, and I have to admit none of them gave me the urge to come back. My latest experience however, finally got memorable enough to write a review. As others recommended, there are 3 prime reasons to come to Blu Wolf that I concur on: 1- Location on park ave, especially with the outdoor seating 2- Generous food portions for the price 3- Drinks are strong; served heavy and poured heavy (I hope I'm not outing anyone!) Aside from those prime reasons, everything else is just okay. And being okay is fine. And being fine is acceptable. But being acceptable isn't exciting to me. On a more positive note, my service was very quick, attentive, and apologetic for mishaps. She was a very nice server (Leah, I think?), and my experience with her has changed by bias against the caliber of service here that I had in the past. As for my meal, my latest dish was the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese and the cup of Southwest Chicken Soup. And to be completely honest, I was more stoked for my soup than I was for my sandwich afterwards. The soup was not salty, and the mix of corn, veggies and bacon really whet my appetite. I wish I had ate a double order of it! The pulled pork sandwich was very large, with plenty of sweet BBQ glazed meat along not-so-sharp/bold cheese macaroni inside. Much to my dismay I noticed some white clumps in the sandwich, and I think that's mayo cooked inside? I'll need someone to correct me on that. Either way, I got full, but the sandwich wasn't memorable... I found myself wanting a pulled pork sandwich from another joint. Blu Wolf always catches my attention during my travels, but the content is just mediocre to me. Every time I stop by I hope the food had evolved to something better, but I end up disappointed.
