    Nice and clean...
    Nicholas S.

This morning I stopped in here for breakfast. I hadn't been here in quite awhile. And I must say, me being a breakfast diner man, (and I've eaten in many) I wasn't let down. A1 service, prompt, fast, and polite. And the place is very clean. I had my usual favorite, scrambled and home fries with whole wheat and coffee. I never had to ask for a warm up, she was right there. A good waitress! The waitresses all had black pants with a white blouse. This adds old fashion class which I like. Of course I'll be back again. :)

So if there were such a thing as 3 1/2 stars I would give this restaurant that- better then three stars but not up to my past four star restaurants. First things first- the staff was super friendly! My lunch companion and I shared a bowl of chili and it was delicious! He even took cup to go. For our main lunch dishes he had a chicken gyro which he said was "pretty good" and I had a turkey sandwich on rye toast. I wasn't really impressed by the sandwich unfortunately. It was ok for "semi-deli/ semi-real" turkey but having gone to a few restaurants recently that serve fresh turkey meat off the bone this sandwich was a letdown.

Gross microwaved veggies in an egg pocket without cheese.

Calling this a restaurant is quite a stretch. The service was mediocre at best and the food is legitimately gross. The man asked if the corned beef was house made and we got a striaght "it's from a can" as an answer. While we appreciate the honesty, that sentence just about summed up our experience. I ordered the "vegi omlette", which contained cauliflower, broc, carrots, and cheese. Odd ingredients for an omelette if you ask me, but I figured it was the safest choice. Wrong. Please see the attached picture of what I renamed "bag of steamed veggies from Wegmans in an egg pocket." It was so obviously a bag of veggies that it was laughable. They even forgot to put the cheese in. The potatoes were inexplicably orange-ish as if they had paprika on them, but they were tasteless and the texture was unpleasant. I would have paid more to have used the ingredients to make my own food rather than have whoever prepared our food make such a gross mess of it. Hey. At least the toast was good?

    Super Ruben!

While planning our dinner party months in advance, the communication from Janine was excellent. She helped us develop a 4-course menu that was sure to have something for everyone, including vegan and allergy friendly options. Amy was our server for the evening, and she ensured we had everything we needed to enjoy our evening. The chairs in the Meyer's Den are wide and comfortable, the decor is dark and classy, and being in the basement away from the dining room made it very quiet and easy to converse with family. The room is rather spacious for 12 guests, but could also accommodate a few more people without feeling cramped. Out of the appetizers we selected, the Charred Octopus was very popular and everyone enjoyed it...even those that had never previously eaten octopus. The baby cauliflower dish was also a beautiful presentation, and quite large and enjoyable. The salads, particularly the Charred Hurricane salad, were nice light courses before the entree was served. As for the entrees, the filet mignon was a little on the dry side, but we really enjoyed the light and crispy spinach fritters that accompanied the beef. The salmon was a generous portion of medium rare fish, and there was lot going on with that dish - spicy cauliflower and za'atar potatoes that had some mixed reviews. Folks who ordered the duck breast seemed to enjoy the complex preparation, which had asparagus, green beans, and two pureed sauces - cauliflower ginger and cherry-rhubarb. The doughnut bread pudding with apple pieces and vanilla ice cream was a delicious, decadent way to end the meal. We left rather stuffed, and delighted with the overall experience that allowed our family to celebrate together.

I decided we should go for Valentine's Day! So here we are a group of 4, on Valentine's Day . Reservation was for 6 however our show ended early so we came around 5:30. Restaurant was empty except for a few people at the bar. Host was less than happy about us coming in early. We had no problem waiting. He reluctantly seats us. The waitress comes out rolls her eyes and then gives a fake smile. Maybe because our skin is brown but our money is green. Now to the food! Awful and severely over priced! We have been too many expensive restaurants that can walk the walk. Erie Grill can't even crawl. Caesar salad $25 (serves one, not an entree), chicken lollipops $16 end up being two chicken legs. The others ordered wagu meatloaf. It definitely tasted frozen. I order tuna tartar wontons (Nosh's Ahi tuna wontons would murder these) and a bowl of jambalaya (meh). It has definitely taken me one month to get over this experience. Nice hotel well that's all I can say! PS. Manager seemed to be "taste testing" booze in the back. Unprofessional!

We were quoted about a 40-minute wait for a table, but told bar seating might open up sooner (around 30 minutes). They took my number and we stepped outside to take a walk around the block while we waited. We ended up getting a text about the bar seat availability in about 15 minutes. Once we got seated at the bar, things turned around quickly. The space has a really cozy, intimate vibe with dim lighting, warm atmosphere and overall it feels thoughtfully put together. We ordered hot toddies to drink, which were perfect for the weather, and for food we got the Japanese sweet potatoes and the cavolo nero pesto. Both dishes were incredibly delicious - flavorful and well-balanced. Just be prepared for a wait (and maybe stay nearby instead of wandering off), but once you're in, it's a great experience!

It's a small space inside but it's designed well enough to manage a flow of traffic for customers and staff. We sat in the back greenhouse area. I think the least enjoyable part of our experience was how loud it was in the restaurant. Definitely not a good spot if you're trying to catch up with someone and your voice doesn't carry. I couldn't actually hear the specials the server was telling us. I want to try out Vern's again, so I may wait until there's an outdoor table or ask to sit in the second level to see if that's quieter. We tried one of their spring menu appetizer items, the Japanese sweet potatoes with kimchi ranch and dill. One bite and I was addicted, these were so so good. We then moved on to the classics for entrees -- bee sting pizza and the ragu-- and we were amazed at how good everything was! The only note we had was about the pizza, it was very soggy in the middle but still edible if you rolled it over in itself. We also had a few cocktails, and while they were somewhat small, you could tell they weren't watered down in any way. Two drinks was more than enough for me. Overall it was a great experience and we want to try it again. If you're someone who struggles to enjoy a meal out where you can't hear much, maybe wait for outdoor tables.
