Went to Bludso's bbq on La Brea on Sunday evening. Good atmosphere & the staff were friendly, attentive gave great service. The food was delicious. We had the Bludso tray. Plenty of meats and sides. We all ate til we were full & we all had enuf to take home. There were 5 of us. Brisket ,chicken, red hots and burnt ends were my favorites moist and well seasoned. Greens, Mac n cheese, beans, coleslaw and corn bread were my favorite sides. Negatives - pork ribs not that tender; no parking lot but we found street parking. So let me just say that moving here from Texas has had me in a mission to find a great barbecue place , and Bludso's has sent the bar! Now I will forever be a Texas barbecue girl but I really enjoyed this restaurant. Loved walking in and letting that smoky smell of meats cooking take me right back to Texas. The host and waitress were so kind and informative. The wood style picnic tables just added to the experience. We ordered the trio appetizers which had hush puppies, fried okra, chips and queso. Wow those hush puppies were amazing!! We ordered 1lb brisket, 3 sausage links , full rack of pork ribs , pork rib tips cornbread, seasoned fries and Mac and cheese. We had a table of 6 and we had food left over food to take home. Brisket was cooked perfectly! The bark of the brisket was perfection. Meat just fell apart when picked up with my fork. Sausage was tasty and had the right amount of spice. Pork ribs were so tender and seasoned just right!! The cornbread was so delicious especially with the honey butter it came with. Amazing food, amazing vibes. Definitely would recommend to all friends and family. As soon as you sit down and you decide to order within 5 minutes the food came. We ordered 1/4 lb of lean brisket (less fat) 1/4 chicken, I recommend the "dark meat" they offered. Has more taste and seasoning The DINOSAUR RIB IS A MUST!! Cooked to perfection, falls right off the bone. Ooo and their Mac n Cheese, to die for. For dessert the berry cobbler is another must try! Delicious combination. PSA Parking is kind of tough. A lot of the street parking isn't available until after 7-8pm. The surrounding streets are permit parking. The restaurant its self has nice decor, is clean and has plenty TVs to watch the game. The staff was very nice and helpful. But the problem with Bludso's is the food. It was OVERPRICED and UNDERWHELMING! We ordered the combo plate special for $35 which includes 2 meats and 2 sides. We chose chicken and turkey for our meats and mac-n-cheese and potato salad for our sides. We also got 1 side of cornbread (dry) and an order of hushpuppies (ok). When the plate came the portion size of the meats looked like it was for a child (I wish I took a picture). The turkey itself was nice and flavorful I enjoyed it but the chicken was DRY kmy husband joked he needed to soak it in our drinks so it wouldn't be so dry lol). The potato salad was NOT good at all we each only took 1 bite but the mac-n-cheese was good. All in all the turkey and Mac was good. Meh. This place feels like they found a book on bbq and thought they'd 'try it out'. Oversalted wings, bland coleslaw, dry ribs that aren't meant to be dry. Their sauce is generic and lacks the tang that you can find at MULTIPLE bbq trucks across LA. The recipes feel like they're locked into a corporate menu that the business structure won't allow them to escape. Had Bludso's bookmarked for a while and finally got to try it this weekend. There was plenty of parking in a neighborhood street within walking distance. The interior was low-lit with TVs surrounding the venue set on a sports channel. The staff were nice and attentive and our water cups were never empty. We got 1/4lb rib tips, 1/2 lb pork ribs, and 1/4 lb brisket for two people. This amount was enough for two people, but you might want to order more if you're on the hungrier side or prefer bigger portions. The brisket was pretty tender and juicy. Took my parent's and their dog to Bludso's on a Thursday. They were extremely accommodating with the dog (one of the cooks even gave us a large bone to take home for him), and our meal was fantastic. The recipe. This is not the same Bludso flavor however it's suppose to before. Too many locations and the flavor was lost along the way. They didn't loose the salt which was a poor exchange. If Kevin sampled any of the food from the restaurants that bares his name and approves I would say he has Empathetic tastebuds. I paid over $100. for subpar salty food, and pink chicken, however the few bites i had from the cooked side of the breast was very moist and flavorful and I did have to remove the skin because the amount of salt used in EVERYTHING was going to send me back to my B.P medicine. It was my first time coming here and it was better than expected! I came with my coworkers after a long day and we were starving. Ordered the Bludso's tray for $220 that "feeds 8-10" and the sides are extremely tiny (like maybe 8 ounces) and the meats were not enough for my office. Sorry but this place is not very good. We tried it 5 years ago and it was just average, but we wanted bbq again. I wanted to give them a second chance. It didn't change at all. Ordered half rack of pork ribs. Not much meat at all and they only gave us 5 pieces. I cook ribs at home so I know there are 13 total on a full rack. Someone can't count. $21 for 5 pieces. The beef brisket tasted fine but it was 50% fat. Too much left on the plate. Besides that there was only 2 slices for $12. Holy smokes. The chicken was average at best. I like El Pollo better. Since I couldn't get the bbq chicken sandwich I tried their southwest salad it's was Delicious. I must say the chicken was cooked to perfection. The flavor and juiciness was perfect.
