It was for a baby shower event and Chubby Fingers completely wowed the guests and the hosts with their timeliness, price point, aesthetics and most importantly, tastiness. Plus vegan friendly! We had a few guests that were vegetarian or vegan - Chubby Fingers graciously prepared a few of the doshiraks completely vegan. We were debating if we wanted to do the buffet style or the doshirak style, but ultimately chose to do doshirak style so it was easy for guests to take home the leftovers and also help with ease of clean up. However, we also saw pictures of how Chubby Fingers do buffet style, it would have still been a great option. So this was more of an issue of preference. Ordering Process: Smooth and easy - you get to pick and choose what you'd like in your doshirak from their menu. Obviously more expensive meats cost more but the choices are pretty extensive. For this baby shower we went with bulgogi (main entree), roasted shishito peppers, yuzu salad (so good!), jap chae (korean glass noodle dish), shrimp spring roll. As for vegan option, they switched out bulgogi with king oyster mushrooms and switched out shrimp spring rolls with veggies only. It was a great hit with the vegan guests. Delivery to the venue was smooth and no hassle, the doshiraks arrived in pristine condition. It came in really conveniently and thoughtfully packed boxes, it was really easy to transport them from point A to point B. Tip: delivery fee is not included in the menu since it could vary with distance so be sure to inquire about that too so you get a clear idea of how much everything will cost. Presentation: The pictures don't do justice to how big and how amazing these doshiraks looked. Most guests couldn't finish it in one seating and gladly took home. The food is Asian/Korean fusion and satisfies many tastes. So really great for catering when you want to make bunch of people happy. Chubby Fingers is a brand new catering company that started cooking delicious, creative food during the pandemic. They offer weekly meals for pick-up or delivery, usually on Thursdays or Fridays, as well as special occasion packages. You can see what they're serving on Instagram, where they maintain a lively food porn account (@chubbyfingerscatering), and order through DM, email, or phone. You can pick up from their space in the Arts District or get delivery within a 15-mile radius. If you're placing a large order, they'll deliver even further. One of the founders, Melissa C., is my cousin, but if the food weren't fantastic, I wouldn't eat it so often or Yelp about it with unreserved enthusiasm (you'd see me on here talking about how this or that was "decent" or "tasted like food"). My family has been getting whatever they have to offer each week, as well as a couple of big special occasion meals: Thanksgiving lunch and, this past Saturday, my brother and sister-in-law's wedding dinner. The food is reliably delicious. Chef Chanhee is Korean, and most of what he cooks has a heavy Korean influence, but everything lives in a fun, innovative, super tasty Asian/Angeleno fusion space. The first thing I ever had from them was the tri-tip grain bowl, which they've offered a couple of times. If you see this on their Instagram, order it immediately. It's superb, with a generous portion of silky, flavorful sous vide tri-tip over a fresh, hearty mix of barley, quinoa, and grilled and pickled vegetables. It also comes with perfect soft-boiled egg and an irresistible miso dressing. The bulgogi banh mi is great, too, with sides of garlicky shishito peppers and shrimp egg rolls. I've also enjoyed the Korean tacos--galbi and al pastor, with kimchi salsa and pickled onions, served with elote, charred green onion, Mexican crema, lime, and radish. I've been extremely impressed with both of our large catered family meals. The Thanksgiving lunch was outstanding, built around galbi jjim, or Korean braised short ribs, a specialty of my mom's that I judge harshly when it's made by other people. Chubby Fingers' version was flawless, the beef tender and saturated with flavor, braised with vegetables and meaty mushrooms that soaked up the sauce. The sides were also great, particularly the salad with pickled persimmon, pomegranate seeds, arugula, candied walnuts, burrata, and yuzu vinaigrette--I'm not much of a salad person, but this was just so good. There was also vegetable japchae, black rice stuffing, and heirloom carrots, zucchini, and eggplant roasted with gochujang glaze. A non-traditional Thanksgiving meal that still brought the warm, satisfying flavors and abundant spirit of the holiday. My brother's wedding dinner was even more special. Only my mom and my brother's new mother-in-law were able to attend the wedding, but since my whole family (parents, brothers, and respective significant others) is bubbled together, we were able to have a nice dinner with Chubby Fingers catering. My mom requested surf and turf--frankly a tall order for a young catering company--and they came through with filet mignon, lobster, and a bounty of appetizers and sides. The filet was gorgeous, sous vide and then grilled, as was the juicy seared lobster tail. For appetizers, we had kimchi fried rice arancini with scallion lime creme fraiche, hiyayakko with ponzu sauce and fried nori, and my favorite, spicy chicken larb endive cups with pink pickled onion. As for sides, there were dinner rolls, four cheese mac and cheese, a grilled vegetable platter, classic creamed corn, that awesome persimmon arugula salad, and roasted garlic mashed potatoes with truffle oil and what must've been a stick of butter, it was so delectably creamy and rich. Melissa also does floral arrangements, so she made a centerpiece for our table and my sister-in-law's bouquet, both stunning.
