This is a bustling little diner at the end of a shopping center in Plainview. Usually busy during lunch on weekdays but they do a good job getting you seated. It's a standard diner so expect some clanging of plates by bus-people, tables wiped down just before you sit down, you get the idea. Standard diner fare menu. Typical for me is the turkey burger deluxe platter and a coffee. Yes, coffee with my burger, fries, onion rings and ketchup. Try it before you critique it. Blue Angel is a good choice if you are in the area. Someone else wrote about The Plainview Diner being better. Sorry, but there the seating takes forever and the food is just so so. If you get seated toward the front, you will be eating with an audience--because people waiting to get seated are standing about 30 inches from you. My husband ordered french toast. I ordered eggs over easy. Both plates came out pretty quickly. My husband's french toast wasn't cooked through so there was raw batter once you cut into it. I found a hair in my potatoes! We left. We have been going to this diner for years, but now we are very disappointed of this place! Their staff are very nice and quick to respond to any needs. However, they have a new staff that took wrong orders and couldn't hear what you order. It is so bad that we have issues every time we go. Straight up Homely diner, the service was fast and efficient. Our waiter was also very enthusiastic and funny (more tips for this guy). I heard many good things about this place so i dropped by with my siblings and a friend. Don't come expecting five star cuisine, it's a no frills classical small diner. Their prices are low, the food is hot and they give huge huge portions. My friend's omelette was gigantic and came with ample amounts of veggies and filling. Tried my first pie here also, tasted great with the side ice cream (a la mode). The only downside was a hair was found in one of our dishes. But my family's not a huge stickler on stuff like that and informed our waiter that they should be a little cautious, but we'll knock off a star for that small hiccup. I can't understand how people are saying this place is expensive. It's a diner in Plainview, and the prices are comparable with Plainview Diner just up the block. It is definitely an older crowd in the mornings and since it is small, there is a good chance you will have to wait on a weekend. I have never had a bad meal here. Food is always good. Top of the line when it comes to diners. Great service, wonderful food and much smaller and more intimate then most of the other diners in the area. My only comment would be that you might get the feeling you are eating at an early bird special somewhere in South Florida. This diner is good. The worst thing about it is the parking lot. I had a lunch special which included dessert, beverage and soup or salad for $13.95. I had been going here for years. Service and food most times were satisfactory. The last time I visited I came with my wife and daughter and we all placed our order. My order was eggs, french fries with bacon, and buttered rye toast. My wife and daughter's food arrived and mine came a minute or so later. There was no bacon, home fries instead of french fries and rye toast, dry and no butter to even spread on myself. My family proceeded to eat and it took a number of minutes before I was able to locate our waitress. I explained my issue and she seemed very annoyed. Reluctantly she collected my food. Came back about 8 minutes later with my food. French fries were there, still no bacon, eggs were very cold and so was the rye toast (now buttered). Once again the waitress was no were to be found. By this time was family was done eating their food. Now, I get up and walk to the back of diner and locate the owner. He escorts me back to the table and looks. The owner says, "what would you like me to do?" I complained, that my family was done eating and replied, "what do you think you should do?" His reply was a shrug! I said, "don't you think you should buy me breakfast?"... and his reply was, "NO!" Here is an owner and he could not care less about customer service or maintaining any long term relationships. Even by diner standards, this place is as average as can be. It's a tiny spot with a regular clientele, the local senior crowd, so it's often times hard to get a table around 5-7pm, but don't take that as a sign of good things to come. You'll find the typical diner menu of - all things - along with some quirky staff inside. I saw some (senior) diners hammering back what looked like a pound of steak and they seemed to be enjoying themselves, but I would keep it simple here. Anything off of the griddle or a giant salad. Can't go wrong with that. The prices are high, which is another LI diner staple, but you do get a massive portion for the most part. If you have a few minutes, stay in the car as there are better diners in the area, but if you absolutely need to have your diner fix, this place will do. read more

My father would give this place a one star. He always tells me not to come here, but I am stubborn and wanted to try it for myself! First thing I noticed when I looked at the menu were the prices. They were seriously high! I mean for a little dinner like this... those prices were not reasonable. I mean i ordered a panini and fries and with tax it was almost $14. I can get a gourmet panini for way cheaper. Something I always make note of when I go to a dinner is the cole slaw. A dinner has to have good cole slaw or else it is not a good diner. I really did like this coleslaw. It was not creamy with a ton of mayo. I prefer more vinegar then mayo. I got a panini with fries. Hardly any chicken on it, and the fries were a little overdone. Not worth the price AT ALL. My boyfriend ordered a gryo with fries. His fries were undercooked, but he said his gyro was good. Wish our waiter was a little nicer. I felt nervous asking him for more water! Not a place I would come back to. read more

The whole experience at this diner was horrific. At first the circumstances, looked at individually, would not warrant such a harsh claim of discrimination but all tolled it was more than just a busy night at the diner. I'm sure those of you who are not Korean will not experience this. This is what happen, you draw your own conclusions. We were a party of three and there was a line at the door. Two parties ahead of us and two behind us on the list. One party behind us also had 3 people. We were seated LAST. We had to ask a busboy and the maitre d' to get us a waiter until we finally got our waiter after a good 10 minutes. We had a 6 year old with us who was starving so I asked the waiter if he could do us a favor and bring us a basket of bread so she could munch on it. This request was met with a brusque, "yes i'm brining it all", as if we had asked for something out of the ordinary and it was huge inconvenience. Bread and coleslaw arrived at the table but no drinks. We don't see our waiter for another 10 minutes. We flag him down and remind him that we didn't get our drinks - if he could get that to us when he had a chance. And we let him know that we would like to place a take out order as well. This was met with "Just give me a minute honey". He walks away and takes care of other tables. 5 more minutes pass and i see him sitting at the counter with his feet stretched out in front of him talking with the owner having a relaxed conversation as we still had no drinks. We finally get our drinks, place the take our order. We are served our dinners. The broccoli that was served to the 6 year old was *** spoiled ***. Not cooked too much to the point of turning gray or burnt as the owner claimed. But let me point this out, why are they KNOWINGLY serving burnt food? We flag over the maitre d' because, again, our waiter is no where to be found, and ask him to smell the broccoli. He makes a sour face and says oh yes that went bad. He ran off to find the owner only to have the waiter come back to us saying "I hear you didn't like your broccoli, do you want something else?". THIS is how they respond to serving someone SPOILED food. No apologies about how that could have happened, nothing. As we discuss the finer points of food being spoiled as opposed to being overcooked, he looks at us with a smirk on his face and asks if we're from the Korean church next door. Wait a gd minute. What does my religion or affiliations to any organization have to do with spoiled food you're serving to your customers?!?!?!?! At this point we are IRATE. How DARE you ask me that question when we're trying to tell you you just poisoned our 6 year old girl? The owner comes by and tells us the same thing, offering us something else because "we didn't like the broccoli." As I said when i started this tirade, that the individual acts aren't unusual. All restaurants get busy, all waiters get frazzled. That's not the problem. It is a HUGE problem when you start asking me if i'm from the Korean church next door because of my Asian eyes. If they thought for one moment that we wouldn't challenge what they did to us because we were "meek soft spoken broken English using Asian folk" they were sadly mistaken. As we tried to get an explanation of why in the world the waiter would bring up anything about religion or race when we're discussion food, he back peddled saying we took it the wrong way. How would you like for me to have taken it?!?! What possible point were you trying to make when you brought up the Korean Church????? You draw your own conclusions about what happened that night. You would think in this day and age and area, being in the melting pot of the United States of America in New York, I am completely disgusted by the behavior I experienced at the Blue Angel Diner, the owner and their wait staff. Sadly enough the matri d' who said that the broccoli was spoiled shrank back into his chair as all this was going down obviously fearful of contradicting his boss. As we finally left the diner after being forced to pay for 2 of the dishes that was served to us that night, he apologized to us quietly when the owner and waiter walked away. On a Saturday evening at 845pm my fiance went to use the ladies room. She immediately slips on a wet floor, lands On her wrist and hits her head on the door. No wet floor sign. No indication that it may be wet. Nothing. Mind you, the average patron is over 60 years old. Had someone else fallen they would have surely broken something. When asked why there was no sign the response was he was just about to put it up. You don't mop a floor, leave it wet and walk away!! You put the sign up first!!! The floor was so wet she couldn't even get up! We asked about an incident report and the manager was clueless and lacked initial sympathy. Someone did bring her ice, however. His only response was to call an ambulance. The only good thing about this is the bill was comped, as it should be. Let this serve as my incident report. read more

My age is catching up with me and fate brought me to Davis Vision in Plainview to get glasses. They needed some time when I had to pick them up so we headed next door to the Blue Angel Diner for some lunch. We walked in around 12:30 and it was bustling. Mostly with people 20+ years our senior. We were quickly seated at a booth and given menus. I had a burger deluxe, which included lettuce, tomatoes, fries and onion rings and a sesame seed bun. My wife ordered a LEO omelette with well done home fries. My burger came basically as ordered-medium rare. Fries were ok and the onion rings were crispy. The burger itself was a bit greasy but I expected that. The LEO omelette was huge, as were the chunks of onion in it. The home fries were very well done and very crispy, but also very greasy and, oddly, undersalted. The service was fantastic. Our waiter was on top of everything, our water and coffee were never empty and dishes were cleared promptly. Prices were relatively low with lunch being under $30 including tax and tip. Standard diner fare with great service. Exactly what you would expect at a quality Long Island diner. read more

I took my grandmother here for Mother's Day, and was just like every other table there--each table had at least one senior citizen sitting. None of the teens/twenty-somethings looked happy, which I chalked up to holiday blues. Mistake. There were tables open, which also really surprised me. My grandma had the hamburger deluxe, which she liked. I had a steak panini, and hot damn, those fries were good. Those were some of the best fries I've ever had. The rest of my family enjoyed their meals; the little bites I tried of burgers/veggies/etc were quite nice. But, alas, back to my rubber--I mean my steak. It was fatty as heck, and required as much chewing as a garden hose. I picked the meat out, ate pretty much a grilled cheese sandwich, and brought the beef home for my dog. For the same $15, I could have gone to the grocery store in that shopping center, bought a loaf of bread, a block of cheese, and a can of dog food--and had enough food for the entire week. read more

Popular at night for the local geriatric set. At lunch time very busy.might have to wait for a table. Good lunch specials that vary day to day. Great split pea soup (Thursday). Good gyro sandwhich served with french fries and soup and a beverage and desert for lunch special ( about 9 0r 10 dollars).
