We decided to have a quick lunch on a colder day, and decided to stop here, greeted to a warm and friendly atmosphere. This has the best combination of chips, and Salsa, chips thin and crisp, salsa very flavorful with spice. We had this place delivered. First time ever trying it. I immediately noticed that the bag which it arrived in smelled horribly of moth balls. I was hoping that was an issue from the delivery driver & their car. Then then the food tasted very odd & not good. I did have moth ball like aroma from several things I barely tasted especially the soup. Nothing was spicy but my tongue / mouth are tingling & burning. This was an overall horrible experience. We arrived at 6:54pm, and 4 of the people out of our group of 10 wanted to catch the last five minutes of the happy hour special. The bartender, although he saw and heard us mention that we'd like to take advantage of the happy hour specials, made no effort to acknowledge us until after the 7pm cutoff. We were seated, amd proceeded to place our orders. We all ordered hamburgers, and they slowly came out. My wife and I were the last ones yet to be served, and our waiter finally told us that the order was never put in. He left, and eventually the "manager" came to the table. She made light of the situation, offering no more than tk bring our hamburgers while our fries were still cooking. Our water glasses were never refilled, and when our food finally came, it was extremely disappointing. The huns were hard (almost like day-old bread), and the pattie had hardly any flavor at all. To cap our visit, we were given our check, and when the receipt came back, there were 2 different amounts - one on the original bill, and a different amount on the credit card receipt. When I asked, I was told that the extra amount was a surcharge for using a credit card. This should have been told to us prior to giving us our bill. Overall, the experience was terrible. So, I'm 27 weeks pregnant and I have been craving tres leches cake for about two, if not three weeks now. That's when I first tried this place out. Last night my craving was strong, but because it was almost 10pm, I didn't want my husband and I to venture out too far. So I suggested we go to Agave Mexican Grill & Cantina for my late night craving, since they also had this cake on their menu. Let me tell you, that was the worst decision ever. The tres leches cake I received from them was literally soupy. There was no form to it. It was just shoved in a small, round tupperware. It had costed us almost $9, a complete rip off. Today my craving was back for this yummy dessert. My husband suggested that this time, we go back to where we know it's made right. So I call in my order, and I ask for a good size piece if possible. As I walk in, there were two young kids, a boy and a girl. They automatically knew I was there for the cake without me saying anything, lol. And it was cheaper than the place we had gone to last night! A little background on myself, I was born and raised in San Diego, California, and tres leches cake was my go to snack when I had a sweet tooth. I haven't been "home" in almost three years, and finally eating this cake from this establishment brought back memories. Seriously, this is the place to go. Not only do they have amazing food, the staff is so friendly and accommodating. Thank you to anyone and everyone who works here, especially whoever packaged up my tres leches cake. You made my entire week. Mommy and baby are definitely happy! My husband and I will be coming back shortly, whether it's for another late night run for some cake, or for a sit down meal (btw, the fish tacos are amazing). Wanted to love this place. The ambiance in the bar area is fantastic! (And got it to two stars.) Unfortunately everything else went down hill from there. I admit I'm spoiled--having had Mexican food all over the west coast and Mexico--but even by Taco Bell standards it was mediocre. The $22 flounder tacos tasted like frozen fish and lettuce. Where was the sauce? The avacado? The... anything? (The sides are phoned in.) The kids nachos was literally microwaved cheese on chips. The salsa was thin. The ceviche was missing cilantro and any sort of liveliness. The flan was above average at least! The Dulce de leche was half frozen. The coffee was lukewarm. The service was terrible. Beer forgotten. 5 minutes for one sparkling water. 8 minutes for next. Bartender was chattin up customer (we were at a table) which I don't care about except our drinks took forever. Two different employees were chewing out two different employees on the floor where we could hear. Take that to the back y'all. One guy was bored and slappin wet towel against wall. We ate here twice, the first time the fajita's were awesome, we went back and not sure what was happening in the kitchen the second time, the fajitas were not as tasty as the first time. DH had the chicken enchiladas both times and he said they were great both times. The chips served were warm and crispy which is something we love. I've been driving by Blue Apache for the last several months waiting for them to open up and I'm happy to say the wait was worth it. Sat at the bar for lunch today, had Shrimp and Spinach Enchiladas and they were wonderful. Blue Apache doesn't look like much, it's a small restaurant in a small strip mall so you're prepared for an average quick Mexican meal of tacos and burritos. Think again. Blue Apache has a full upscale menu. We enjoyed an appetizer of tables idea guacamole that was so fresh and flavorful, you'll want toblick the bowl, I restrained myself. The entree plates are large and filled edge to edge with whatever entree you order. I had the Cheese Chilli Rellano, I DID brig a doggie bag home but my dog didn't get a single bite. The food variety is extensive. You want tacos, they've got quite a few for you to enjoy,, that goes for burritos, enchiladas, seafood, steaks, fajitas, etc. The bar menu is also quite varied but you don't need to go beyond the traditional Margarita. But make sure you have a designated driver. They aren't afraid to pour the tequila. After only two drinks, my dining companion and I were glad to have her hubby along to drive us home.
