During the shelter-in-place, Blue Baker is delivering essentials (wipes, fruit, vegetables, bread). I ordered a few things and had it at my door step in less than 10 minutes. This is a great thing a local business is doing for the local community. Not a huge fan of the pizzas or sandwiches, but the breads here are outstanding. I never leave without a loaf of focaccia. Theirs is moist, extremely fragrant with herbs, and just the right amount of salty. I also had one of their newer items, the crawfish roll. It had great flavor and the egg bun they make for it is perfect for the dish. I'd say it's not enough to get most people full at $12, but crawfish isn't cheap. read more

Food was just ok. Very unorganized. You order at counter spot #1. Then tell someone else at counter spot #2 what you ordered and pay. Then they bring you half your food. And you pick up the rest at yet another place, counter spot #3. There has to be a better way. read more

I've been going to the two restaurants for years now, but was just recently compelled to write a review. After ordering my food and walking through the door to the patio I dropped half of my grilled indigo (great awesomeness) and spilled my water on the other half. It was a pretty solid addition to an already crappy day. The reason for this review is that about 2 mins. into eating my waterlogged chicken breast on a piece of bread a sweet young lady walked up to me with a nice, new, huge, beautiful grilled indigo sandwich in hand. I didn't even realize any of the staff had seen me drop everything! What a way to make someone's day? In addition to some of the best bread-based food I've ever had, this sort of customer service is why I give Blue Baker 5 out of 5. read more

I was very disappointed in the pizza that I received! Although it was free, I still expected good quality. The pizza was drowned in tomato sauce, and hardly had any meat or cheese on it. I strongly encourage everyone to read Dave F.'s (Blue Baker owner) comment attached to my review. I wish to add this addendum to Dave's comment: 1) Paying wages of 8% above the miserly restaurant industry average is not heroic ... I bet you're paying less than $8 per hour. Truth is, Blue Baker wages are similar to McDonald's. 2) A 41% anual employee turnover rate is not praiseworthy. 3) Reporting that you have not laid off a single employee during the recession is hardly noteworthy, since College Station has a bullet proof economy. The 50,000 Texas A&M students who are the backbone of the town's restaurant patronage are a nearly inexhaustible source of revenue for the local fast food industry. I am unable to identify any College Station restaurant that closed its doors due to a recession related business downturn. Besides, your business has (minimally) an anual turnover rate of 41% (i.e., 41% of your employees quit, each year) ... hence, it is unlikely that you should ever need to lay anyone off. 4) Suggesting that your employees are not overworked (reporting averages of 42 hours per week) at Blue Baker sidesteps the reality that MANY Blue Baker employees (including managers) hold second jobs in order to make ends meet. Yes, Blue Baker employees are overworked wage-slave. 5) About those parmasen cheese crisps, Dave ... let me get this straight. You discontinued putting cheese crisps in the salads because people were not eating them? And, you replaced the cheese crisps with day-old bread slices because you felt that customers would find the day-old bread more palatable? Trying to pass off the downgrading of menu items as responsiveness to "customer preference" is insulting. We ALL know why expensive cheese crisps were replaced with leftover bread. Dave, if you are simply offended by my review, then take solace in the knowledge that you have made thousands of dollars off of my patronage. While spending those thousands of dollars, I have become a VERY INFORMED customer (whether you like it or not). If you wish for Blue Baker to be reviewed more favorably than Subway, then perhaps you should devote less effort in responding to unfavorable Yelp reviews and more effort in (re)developing the quality of your product and the satisfaction of your employees. Blue Baker, I love you. This spot is so hot in College Station that they just opened a second location on University Avenue. This is a Bakery/Deli/Pizza Joint/Breakfast Spot. They offer excellent veggie options (difficult to come by in this town). You can sit in a booth and use their free wi-fi while you enjoy there delicious soup and sandwich combo. I highly recommend the tomato bisque in their freshly baked bread bowl. Salads can also come in a parmesan cheese bowl...the spinach salad (the baby brutus) is to die for because I love my cheese bowl drenched in the remaining balsamic vinaigrette! They offer wood fired pizzas, free samples of bread, and giant cookies and brownies for dessert. If you come in wearing a blue outfit, you receive a free menu item. The farther you alter your appearance into smurfdom, the more free food you get! I drove into the parking lot once to see a couple of guys rubbing blue body paint all over their faces and chests only to walk into the restaurant to see that it was an entire large group that had decided to "blue it up" for some free food. This place never gets old and it's so great that there is an alternative to chain restaurants in CSTX. read more

I have eaten at Blue Baker dozens of times over the years, and the experience has paled. If you are going, I recommend the pizza...it's pretty good even if it isn't truly special. The sandwiches are usually fine, though I had one experience where the roast beef was inedible. Some sandwiches just seem odd to me and the menu is not too varied so there are not that many options for me. I will still go to Blue Baker if someone else wants to, but I would much rather go to Jason's Deli now. read more

Fresh bread is always a winner. And free samples are even better. Blue Baker is fantastic because they took great basic ingredients and made boring things delicious. Even the most plain sandwich is heavenly. Everybody loves the pizza there (wood fire oven baked in front of your eyes--can't complain about that!), but the real show stopper is the soup. Get a bread bowl and choose your favorite (mine is the chicken tortilla) and indulge. Heavenly. Be aware though that they are incredibly busy on Sundays. And I believe they're still doing discounts if you paint yourself blue. read more

The sandwiches/salads/pizzas are just fine. But I come to Blue Baker for the cookies. And the pumpkin bread, ohhhh lawd. I can eat that entire loaf in 1 sitting. I'll even rush over there early Saturday morning (they only sell pumpkin bread on Saturdays) just so I can get some before they run out. I love that they have seasonal cookies, too! I wanted to like this more after the great reviews.. but the customer service is lacking. We walked up to the Ordering counter and the employee was too distracted cleaning the overhead lamp that we stood there for a while. She finally reluctantly took our order. We got to the cashier end and they were only aware of one order, I had to explain we ordered 2 entrees. They need to work on their ordering/paying process for accuracy...because I was thinking, "why did I have to go to 1 line to Order, then a 2nd line to to Order again and pay?" (Isn't that what computers are for?) As for the food, the sandwich and soup combo was good enough although the albacore tuna was a bit too...fishy. The bbq chicken pizza was too much bbq and not enough dry chicken. The price was not bad for both at 17$. The restaurant itself was roomy, has WiFi, but the condiment station (where the trash bins) are was a bit messy. I never get why they make those "holes" to the trash bins so small.. you just end up getting trash and food all over that area. Gross. This may be a good spot for a quick breakfast bagel sandwich as the prices are low but not sure about a repeat visit to this one, I would give the University location a try in case it's just a case of poor customer service at this location. read more

My review covers the delivery service for Blue Baker. If you want an opinion about the food, I'll just say it's pretty mediocre. I don't understand why it's so popular, and I would not eat here if I wasn't able to expense it. So moving onto the delivery service, I just want to say that it's horrible...beyond horrible. I'm part of a sales organization, and I host meetings at least once a month in College Station with about 10-15 people attending. The problem with College Station is that there aren't many food options for good catering. It pretty much comes down to BBQ or Blue Baker. I've had Blue Baker cater to our meetings before (about 5 times), and most of the time the delivery would be late. It was annoying, but like I said, I don't have many options in College Station so I tolerated it. My latest experience however was infuriating. I placed an order for 14 sandwich boxes with drinks the week before my meeting. The person over the phone confirmed the time and delivery and even took my credit card (I don't know if I was ever charged for it...my company card is slow at posting charges). However, after waiting for 30 minutes after the scheduled delivery time, I gave them a call to check on the status. Unfortunately, NO ONE had a clue about the order. They said they didn't have a record of the order, and no one at the restaurant even remembered talking to me. On top of that, there was no accountability or any apologies from anyone. They acted like they just didn't care and that I should move on. So in the future, I will not be using Blue Baker for catering. On average, we paid about $200 each time they delivered. Now Blue Baker will be missing out on potentially $2400 or more a year since I won't be using them any more for my meetings. ***One last thing...I'm a pretty positive guy, but this experience (combined with the mediocre food and the previous late deliveries) is enough for me to give 1 star. So congrats Blue Baker...you are my first 1 star review! read more

Wife and I walked in with our grand-daughter. We have been here before. The grand-daughter likes their pepperoni pizza. I went with the chicken salad sandwich with chips and a drink. The wife and grand-daughter shared the small pepperoni. My sandwich was ready shortly after ordering it. I upgraded for $2.50/and got a bag of chips and drink with free refills. The pizza came out hot and fresh. My wife asked for some extra sliced Parmesan to add to the pizza. No problem. The pizza was delicious as always. The chicken salad was tasty, but dry. There was no mayo. The bread was fresh. I thought sandwiches were their main menu item. Seems to me they could make them a little more appealing. read more

Blue Baker has been my saving grace when I simultaneously need a bite to eat and a place to do some homework. I prefer the location on University, as the other one can tend to get a little crowded. If I'm there in the morning, I usually get a delicious egg and cheese on a bagel and a coffee that keeps me full for most of the day. Lunch is turkey time. Always. And Blue Baker's is really good. I also enjoy that I see the same few friendly faces there early in the morning on Mondays, as they've also found out about Blue Baker's great study area and laid back attitude. Blue Baker also has a wood-burning oven for delectable pizzas, though one time the guy behind the counter baked it too much and all the cheese dried up. It was a sad say. This location also sells some international jams, cheeses, and gourmet items that I was entirely shocked to find in good ole CSTX. Service is generally friendly but you might get a few stares from the older people if your appearance isn't like everyone else's, but I suppose that's a criticism of College Station and not necessarily Blue Baker. read more

I go to a restaurant for good food and good service, and both are in abundance at Blue Baker. I've eaten there for breakfast and lunch-- everything I've had was great! The employees are also really nice, cheery, and helpful. Some areas they could work on is on the delivery and price. It's incredibly slow, so you should probably go get it yourself. Also, I feel like it's a little on the pricey side, but I suppose it's worth it. If you're looking for something unique to BCS or good sandwiches and pizzas, look no further than Blue Baker! read more

I'm a huge carbo fan. And Blue Baker has some of the best carbs around. Blue Baker combines a funky atmosphere, good food, and an artisan-style bakery to make it one of College Station's coolest eateries. The menu includes numerous hot and cold sandwhiches on their fresh bread, several soups in either bowls or their bread bowls, as well as some of the best wood fire pizzas I've had. Breakfast is a treat at Blue Baker as well. My fiance is a fan of their smoked salmon and capers bagel sandwich, while I prefer the simpler everything bagel with light cream cheese. The bagels are still warm, and the bread just has a taste that you can't get anywhere else in town. Before I leave, I always try to pick up a loaf of the Shiner Bock Beer Bread. It's yeasty, chewy, and delicious. Not the fanciest place in town, but Blue Baker satisfies by serving quality ingredients on the freshest bread. read more

The sandwiches all look delicious, but I honestly continuously stick with the BLT and lobster bisque. Sweet treats are always in variety here. The pizzas are fairly artisanal here, in comparison to what you can find in college station. And I appreciate that the tax is already accounted for in the pricing, no unnecessary math, etc. The coffee is delicious as well but if I had one pet peeve about this place, it'd be that there's never enough during some hours of the day. I imagine coffee is one of the main reasons a fair amount of people go here, but it can be disappointing when you decide you want a coffee so you purchase a cup and then you find out that all the coffee is gone except for the decaf (which most certainly defeats the purpose of coffee). The same goes for half-an-half and milk honestly. However, I'm still leaving 5 stars in light of this because when they do have the specialty coffee available, it's damn good. And I personally enjoy Blue Baker's atmosphere. read more

One of my favorite places in CS. Good to meet with friends or take family to. It's also good for studying with free wifi and lack of crowds after lunch hours. They serve sandwiches, soups, salads, pizza (now during lunch), pastries, and loaves of artisan bread (some are dessert bread). They cycle through their specialty bread depending on what day it is and can run out. The one on Dominik is smaller than the newer one on University but feels brighter and more local. If you have a large group, the newer one might be better to visit. read more

It smells good too. The BBQ smell is making my mouth water. The chips and soda were good but I'm sure this pizza will be better. My wife and son take way too long. Changed to five star after eating. I've been to the Blue Baker several times while traveling on business in BCS. And it's usually pretty good. The pizzas are great, and you can watch them fire them in the big oven. Don't feel limited by what's on the menu either. You can ask for specific ingredients on it if you want. They've done it for me on several occasions. I also like the salads. They make them down the line as you walk to the register. I've been able to tell them more or less of specific ingredients here as well. The soup is hit or miss, for me that is. They really need to specify on the menu (maybe with a picture of a little carrot) which soups are vegetarian. The staff have to go look it up in a book when I ask. And soups that you would assume are vegetarian, usually aren't. Come on guys, use more vegetable broth and label accordingly. read more

This is one of the first places I ever went in C Stat. And now I can't stop going whenever I'm there! They have food for every meal. Breakfast they have tons of pastrys and bagels. I always get the smoked salmon on a bagel. So delicious! The pumpkin muffins are delectable. Everything else always looks amazing! Lunch their soups, salads and sandwhiches are amazing. They have bread bowls for their soups which are pretty crusty which is good to keep the soup in the bowl but not the best for munching. Their salads come in Parmesan cheese bowls and are really tasty! My favorite sandwich is the Tejas Blue. Its a little spicy which I love. I also love to grab a loaf of bread to take home and each for breakfast for a couple days. This place is also great for studying. I believe they have wireless internet and an area near a window that could be good if you are working on your computer. I can never go to College Station and not stop at Blue Baker. read more

I've been here about 3 or 4 times while visiting friends, and I think I've probably gotten the same sandwich every time. The Powder Blue is tasty enough, and all the toppings are fresh. I never thought I'd like a sandwich with fresh spinach leaves on it, but it surprised me! I do think the prices are a bit unreasonable, since it's more like half a sandwich, and there's nothing super fancy about it. The place accommodates families and larger groups of people comfortably. I've never noted the service to be extra friendly or anything, so overall this place is just like the 3 stars say, "A-OK". Next time I will have to try something other than a sandwich, because apparently I have been missing out on the items that make this a 4 star establishment. read more

Heaven's Gates for Sandwich-Lovers! Some may dote Blue Baker as somewhat pricey for the average cost of living (after all, I myself, am but a college student)...but it's worth every penny! I highly recommend the Royal sandwich. Or one of their specialty pizzas. Their cookies are of decent taste (I've had and made better). I do not understand the appeal of this restaurant. The decor is reminiscent of a brightly lit food court in a mall. And for being one of the only places to get fresh bagels in town, I was so disappointed! That bagel I received was hard, dry, flavorless and inedible. I actually had to compost it. Where are the beautiful, shiny bagels with a soft, subtle inside and a spread of lox or avocado and cream cheese? I love, love, love fresh bread and after trying their bread I was, again, very disappointed. The bread tastes like bread you can buy at any large grocery. And the sour dough bread is strange- maybe I am use to San Francisco sour dough bread... but the Blue Baker bread was tart and weird. The sandwiches were messy and boring (the only flavor that caught my attention was the hot sauce dousing the bread....). The pizza was edible and they do have some good topping combinations. I would eat it again, but not go out of my way to get it. The cookies that dot the counter were great. I especially love the peanut butter! All in all, I would come back if I had a major cookie craving. Otherwise, probably not. read more

Great sandwiches. I love the Cordon Bleu which is served on a croissant and liberally packed with bacon. The staff is helpful and the place is clean. One downside is that the sandwich can be less filling for a satisfying lunch so I always complement it with a Cinnamon Twist which is one of the best I have had; flaky, crisp, and just the right amount of cinnamon. read more
