Our first time at the Blue Bay. We were seated quickly. Our waitress was awesome, as well as the man handling front of the house, Clam chowder was awesome, thick, big chunks of potato, bacon, and clams. We ordered the seafood platter for two. We live in the neighborhood and opted to go out to eat. This place does not disappoint. The service and food was good. We opted to fried clam strips with 1/2 onion rings and 1/2 fries. There was plenty of clam strips. The meatloaf dinner has a slice meatloaf with at least 1.5" thick and about 4x6 or slightly larger in size. There were no complaints on the meal. read more

We usually do take out but we will able to dine in on Saturday. Our server was Lillian F a lovely lady who was wonderful. She was attentive. and had what we needed whether it be a refilled, more. condiments etc. We had my Mom with us who is 101 years old. She wanted a beer! She got her beer and bartender another lovely lady couldn't help chat with us about her and her age! Both these ladies made her night. Dropped in on a rainy Sunday afternoon for early dinner. Was seated promptly in a booth and offered muffins which were good. Ordered bloody marys and they were made quickly. Kudos to the bartender for making them and notifying staff that the drinks were ready. Wife opted for the fried scallops while I ordered a salad and buffalo wrap. I received the wrap first and then the salad a few minutes later. But buffalo wrap and salad were good. Why the three stars? Wifes fried scallops weren't fully cooked which was a bummer. The middle she described as soft and gushy. Usually a good cooked scallop is really tasty but this time was not. I was going to mention to the waitress but she was missing. I did see Jim near the bar but didn't flag him over as wife said forget it and did eat most of them. That was on me for not saying anything as jim is hands on and would have fixed it. So buffalo chicken wrap was great, salad probably should have arrived first but i ate it with my meal. No big deal. One item of note, our waitress disappeared for a while and there were other waitresses in the area but they never looked up or scanned the area. It wasn't that busy either. When I think of fresh seafood, it's difficult not to picture a large mound of fried seafood. Blue Bay definitely scratched that itch. The fisherman's platter for 2 easily could have fed 4. In the order of our favorites, the platter came with haddock, bay scallops, shrimp, clams, and crab cakes. We opted for 50/50 fries and onion rings. The onion rings were perfectly battered and the onion was tender. Crab cakes were super disappointing. The consistency was very dense and mushy, and not at all like a fresh lump crab cake. Also ordered the stuffed shrimp off the specials menu. Jumbo shrimp stuffed with fish, crab, lobster, and shrimp and broiled/baked with a cracker crumble. Pretty solid specials menu item. read more

Time to try a new place so we settled here. Ugh! It could be soooo much better. The salads were fresh at least. We ordered drinks and our waitress struggled to tell us what specials were on draft. She didn't know and didn't check. Ordered a medium steak, it was barely medium rare. Same waitress kept clipping off our sentences and was super curt. Fajitas were actually pretty good with a nice portion size. Dinner is eaten and she brings us our tab with no mention of dessert or more drinks or anything. I was picking a piece of food out of my teeth when she brought the check and she said "we have toothpicks if you want one" in kind of a bitchy kind of way. I'm typically really hard to please with fried seafood - I'm a lifelong Mainer and have had my fair share. Most places are mediocre at best. We stumbled upon this place as a stop on our way home from picking something up and boy, what a find! I was shocked at the flavor. I got the clam strips and calamari and both were delicious. Even the fries were cooked better than most places. I also appreciated that they were very willing to make a menu change for our son and did the clam strips in a kid's portion. The first time I came here a while back I got the cioppino in a bread bowl. Thankfully I don't see it on the menu so hopefully it was a one off "special" because it was awful and unlike any cioppino I've ever had. It was super thick and not helped by being absorbed by the bread. But regardless we came back again for karaoke. Very clique-y crowd, we didn't feel very welcome so didn't participate in karaoke. We thought it was weird that they don't dim the lights at night, and a guy that worked there was maybe off the clock drinking but the bartender would call him to help when she needed ice or whatnot, was he working? Who knows, who really cares, just weird. Also surprising that it ends at 11, the party seemed to be just getting started and then it's all shut down. Like where's the after party? MAYBE we'd come back again and try some different food, if not for checking out the reviews and seeing what a total D*CK the owner is. Every time a customer has a bad review, which isn't shocking at all, he attacks them. That's not a great look for other people looking at reviews when deciding where to go. And saying that he is going to tells his servers not to serve people that smell like marijuana when he's minutes from Maine AND it's legal medically in NH also saying you can't taste things properly when under the influence is laughable (while selling them drinks) .... One star gives this place too many stars!! $32 prime rib steak, it was bland, not seasoned and needed a chain saw to cut through and razor teeth to chew through, it came with a small baked potato( my choice of side) and a bowl of brown tasteless water I wouldn't have called au jus. No veggies, no salad, I added broiled scallops to the dinner for another $25 they were also bland and tasteless, sitting in a dish of hot yellow water instead of brown...same flavor I would describe as "a void of flavor". Thank the good lord above there was a salt shaker to add at least some resemblance of edible as I was really looking forward to this meal and hungry. I really did try to eat the food but ultimately left hungry and would not even bring the steak home to my 7 dogs as they wouldn't have liked it and would have demanded I add gravy. I spoke to the owner who proceeded to defend the cooks and explain how I was wrong and spoke to me as if he had already tried my food and knew for a fact I was wrong. I asked him to walk away from my table and stop talking and just give me a good comp on my bill. He took off $25 the price of the scallops. After leaving the parking lot I posted a review on Google. I also read other customers reviews and I have to say the comments this owner made back to each "bad" review shows his character as a restaurant owner and his defensive demeanor toward anyone who has anything to say about this terrible food. I had a horrific experience at blue Bay. After arriving on a busy evening, we were fine waiting. We went to the bar and after a 40 minute wait, we we seated. We waited a good 10 or 15 minutes for a waitress to come over and take our order.we then proceeded to wait over an hour with no food no waitress, no nothing. Finally, getting a bit frustrated, I asked the manager/owner what was happening and he was anything but helpful. He said it's a busy night. I have no idea when you're going to get your food and deal with it.After sitting back down and waiting a few more minutes and not receiving any food. We decided to ask for food to go, and was told by the owner that the food would not come out any faster. No apology no concern over the long wait, just an attitude! This is the first complaint I have ever made about a restaurant and I am 57 years old. I've really never been to a place that I disliked more I will never ever ever be returning to this restaurant and it's very convenient for me to go there. First time there. Heard the seafood was great. So we get there and we are the only ones wearing masks except one waitress which unfortunately we didn't get. Our waitress with no mask standing at our table had to sneeze. She did turn but wtf wear your mask! We get our food which was okay. Not spectacular. Then we go to pay and there seems to be a problem with the register. After several minutes and an army of people we get our change back. I thought the state of NH mandated restaurant help was to wear masks. Wouldn't they be surprised when they get a visit. Kudos to the one waitress wearing the mask. read more

Unexpectedly charming local spot that I wish I knew about years ago! Home cooked goodness, with a full bar, friendly service and bonus- darts next door for more fun! We had the seafood chowder, (thicker broth but not too much and lots of flavor) the haddock Parmesan ( the Mariana sauce is awesome) and the teriyaki steak tips (hubby was very happy). Blue Bay Seafood & Steak is a little out of the way restaurant that serves mostly locals during the winter and vacationers through the other seasons. To its credit, it has been the longest lasting restaurant at that location over the past 10 years. It is due to the fact that they serve good food at a fair price. They also have an active, fun bar scene on the other side of the building (restaurant is on left, bar is on right) that has open mic nights, karaoke, a darts league and additional fun and happenings. Our most recent visit to Blue Bay we had one of my very favorite dishes they serve - the Seafood Primavera. It is a huge plate of haddock, shrimp, sea scallops, and lobster. You have a choice of different sauces like marinara or a spicy Fra Diavolo sauce to a creamy Alfredo or scampi like garlicky sauce. I prefer either of the red sauces - but regardless of choice - it's amazing! Served over your choice of linguini or penne pasta, served with a salad and garlic bread. I can never finish it and easily make an entire other meal from the leftovers at home. It's an amazing dish. If you have room try their carrot cake for dessert - it's delicious! read more

Hello, My husband and I just moved back to NH from Florida and decided to try out the local restaurant Blue Bay Seafood and Steak. We were very impressed. When I went in the bathroom I was so impressed how clean it was. Then they were having this date night special which was amazing. First they had on that menu very good items. And when the food came, fresh vegetables did not seem out of a package and not the norm veggies that you always get, frozen mixed broc, carrots and cauliflower in a small bowl. So Great. And the entrée was so good. Then to top it all off so much food for a great price. Then the bar, we didn't visit, but people were laughing and having fun. They have lots of craftsmen beer and great specialty drinks. You wont be disappointed, try it out. Oh! their service gals and guys were always smiling and very helpful. read more

Went there with a friend, who loves this place. I ordered the corn beef Reuben sandwich that was so DRY that I could not chew it. It lacked taste, probably due to being old and dried out. The french fries that came with the meal, GROSS! Everything in this restaurant seems to be frozen then cooked to order. Prices were extremely high for the lack luster of meal provided. We had 2 cups of clam chowder, honestly The worst chowder I have ever had , no taste no clams and was as thick as Elmers glue and sawdust mixed together. We had three meals. This is a great restaurant! We've been eating there since they first opened. The owner is a great guy, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the chef is the best! You have to have the chicken Cordon Bleu with Mornay sauce. Delish! And seriously, where can you get Mornay sauce these days? ? We were vacationing in the area, and stopped by for dinner on a Saturday night. The food and service were both phenomenal. The waitress who served us was friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely some of the best I've ever had. I got the prime rib (only available Friday and Saturday), which was perfectly seasoned, moist, and tender. Every bite felt like a pleasant surprise, and the entire experience was excellent. My father had the scallops and crab cakes. The scallops were merely good, but the crab cakes were delicious -- some of the best he'd ever had. The entire meal, with four adult entrees, two kids' meals, and an appetizer of onion rings, came to less than $100 before tip. We will definitely be returning before we head home. read more
