Been here too many times to count. The food has ranged from amazing (prior ownership) to currently - pretty good. The bartenders and service staff are always on top of their game and are above average to say the least. The current ownership seems to have the traffic at a higher level than the past, causing much disorganization when things get busy. They could better manage and better serve everyone by having reservations during their heavy rush times. Because they don't, the staff has more work managing the long wait vs. having more time to process table turnover. In addition, they don't take reservations, but they place a RESERVED card of a 6 chair high top every weekend night. I've seen this table empty for hours as customers wait an hour or more in the foyer. If you're looking for a nice sit down dinner during peak dinner hours, there are other options. I'm sure it's a great landing spot for early afternoon dinner. Edit: The owners response on May 15 2026 stating that they allowed reservations was incorrect. As of today, May 22nd, they announced their "New Policies" which were posted on Facebook which states that they are taking reservations which in my opinion will improve the dining experience there. read more

Great food, slow service, but worth the stop We were a group of five staying nearby and looking for a good local spot to get dinner before settling in. This place popped up with several great reviews, so we gave it a shot. The food definitely delivered! We ordered the sampler (with double chicken tenders and potato skimmers), two orders of mozzarella sticks, and the mac & cheese with ribs. Everything came out hot and packed with flavor. We even got onion rings which we didn't order but were happy to see. Total comfort food and worth the wait. I also had the Painkiller cocktail, which was strong but definitely hit the spot. That said, service was slow across the board. It took a while just to get acknowledged, then more time to get drinks, even more for the food, and the bill took a while too. They were clearly busy, and our server Jen was friendly and attentive when she was with us, but the wait times added up. The atmosphere felt very "homey" kind of like a small town hangout where everyone knows each other. As someone who rocks an afro, I definitely stood out, the place lacked diversity and that was noticeable. Still, we didn't feel unwelcome, just very aware of it. Just visited Knotty Pine Grill and the food was pretty good. We stopped by for an early dinner and sat in the tavern side. It's kind of a locals place and the bar seats were occupied. It can get loud so the dining room side might be a better choice if you want quiet. Sat at a window side table and was promptly given menu's and Amanda asked for our drink order. Bloody Marys were ok but Sams Summer was better. We started with one of the specials starter, Thai chili shrimp. It was highly crispy with a nice chili sauce. We followed that with a small cheese pizza which was tasty, cheesy and thin. Hit the spot. We also ordered a Chicken Parm Stromboli to take home which was fantastic and worked on that the next day. Everything we got was very good. Our waitress Amanda was efficient, friendly and stopped by often to check on us. Nice Job. The place gets a solid four stars. read more

My wife and I went there friday night for dinner. While mine just wasn't up to par, the manager comped it for us. Thats not why I am posting this though. My wife got a veggie pizza and as always there was plenty of it left over to bring home. It is now Sunday and I just ate the last slice. When I say this 2 day old slice was as good as most pizzas around here, I mean it. I was surprised at how good it still tasted and how it wasn't soggy at all. Had to get a stove part next door and got hungry. It just so happened to be New Years Eve. We walked in at 4:40 pm and there was one other couple in the dining room. They asked if we had reservations and we said no. The hostess had 2 hightops available and we said yes. She then informed us that tonight was a set 3 course menu. We glanced it over and said ok. I ordered a Cesar, Prime Rib and 2 sides. I got creamed spinach and mash potato. My friend ordered the Eggplant Parm. She got a salad with hers but no sides were offered with the set menu . The waitress came back and told me the Prime Rib was sold out/spoken for so I had to make another choice. I chose Chicken Saltimbocca with the same sides. Cesar was good, nothing special could have used more dressing as it was light.....def not a classic homemade dressing. Meals arrived 15 minutes later just as we were finishing our salads. Mine was definitely not Chicken Saltimbocca! It was just Chicken breast with HAM! and Holindaise sauce ontop. There were a few slices of spicy ham ontop also but.....not.what the dish is supposed to be. Crazy what you get up in these backwoods places. My friends Eggplant parm was served with ricotta cheese! That also was a first. Chef had to be putting his/her on flair on CLASSIC dishes but mucked it up bad. We had to eat it because it was NYE and we were hungry and an hour from home. One star for warm fireplace and one star for desserts....peanut butter pie and my brownie was a 10 out of 10. Chef needs a tune up and make a round turn with menu items. Service was good, food was good. see below for the "ok" rating. We went to celebrate a birthday. Planned for dinner, drinks and music. When we arrived early 2:30ish (because they do not allow reservations) we chose a 6 person table. Two of us sat down and ordered a beverage and appetizer. The waitstaff asked where is the rest of your party? We said, after confirming, they were 5 mins out. Later the waitress asked if we woukd be leaving after dinner because they had a party of 7 coming for the music. I shared we had planned to stay for the music. It was not yet 6pm. Our plan was to leave around 8p -bc of an early next day flight out of Boston. At 5:40pm, they shut off the 30 yr old birthday girl from any more beer. (3 hours in with no pregame drinking, no behavior issues-we asked the waitstaff why and were told, the bartender is not comfortable). How odd. So 3 people in our party put their coats on and the Manager was at our table immediately asking those of us staying, to move to the bar. The bill for 6 people dinners, apps and beverages was about $300. Tipped the waitress well and understood it wasn't her fault. Maybe consider making reservations for people instead of making them feel unwanted. Next year will be at the Poor Peoples Pub. read more

Used to be our 'go to' for their huge, fresh Greek and Cobb salads (no added protein). Often times the pita chips in the Greek salad were missing, but with such a large portion of fresh greens I could overlook the missing chips. Last two times ordering the salads we were shocked as they're only a 1/4 the size now and for the same price! We assumed the first time was just an off-day in the kitchen or a new hire. Nope; their meal-sized salads have shrunk to a portion slightly larger than a side salad! Left hungry and very DISAPPOINTED! Just amazing to watch the teamwork behind the bar. No words needed but they work like clockwork. The food is wonderful and the employees are always personable and so welcoming. I don't want to post this because I don't want them to attract more people out of selfishness but I can't not post. Family was up for a day trip and we stopped in here for lunch. The food did not disappoint. The waitress was super friendly too. We started with onion rings appetizer, which was huge and super tasty. The meals were plain cheese pizza, which is like the north end of Boston, bison burger platter without the bun, chicken tenders with fries, chicken and vegetable quesadillas and a baked haddock with baked potato. Three of us went to Knotty Pine Saturday evening. We were seated promptly in the half empty dining room and given menus. Two servers were working the dining room but neither even made eye contact with us, let alone take our orders. Another couple came in after we did, were seated, brought drinks, and got appetizers and we were still not even acknowledged. We walked out and the hostess told us to have a good night. Seriously? I have been to Knotty Pine many times, but always on the tavern side, and never been dissatisfied. Neither of my companions had ever been there before and now none of us will ever go there again. We placed a take out order from Wontons from the parking lot of Knotty Pine, picked it up in 10 minutes and went home with it. Take my advice: go to Wontons and avoid Knotty Pine. read more

Since Knotty Pine is less than a mile from us, we eat there often. The menu doesn't change often which aggravates me but the specials are changed regularly which helps. Some good, some so so. The staff are great and friendly. Some nights the dining room is not open so the wait for the bar is too long. Needs to open more often than Thursday-Sunday especially in summer months! read more

My husband and I come here at least 2-3 times a month since we moved to the area almost 8 years ago. Our favorites are the pizza (pro tip: get a small and ask for it well done) and ribs (fall off the bone!). We prefer the bar area, but no matter where we sit, all the staff is very welcoming and we have always had great service, even when busy. The new owners have done an amazing job with renovations while still maintaining the cozy charm of the restaurant, as well as yummy menu updates but kept some of the staple items (like the ribs and pizza ). This place is a hidden gem in the woods. We enjoyed the appetizer sampler and shared the full rack of ribs that fell off the bone but just picking them up absolutely delicious!On a Thursday night it was jam packed with Open Mike. We have been many times but usually sit at the bar. This time we sat at a table near the back door and the smoke from the cigarette smokers was a bit much. When we got there tonight, we were told it would be about a 30 minute wait, and unless I am starving, thats a good sign for a local restaurant. Our wait was only about 10 minutes though. We have lived about 15 miles from here for the past 2 years and have wanted to try eating here, so as tonight was date night, we chose here earlier this week. My wife had a chicken parm sandwich with sweet potato fries and I have the fish tacos with onion rings. As soon as I saw our dinners coming, I knew by their size, I was gonna need a to go box when I was done.The tacos has a little bit of a bite to them,which I really enjoyed and the onion rings were perfect. My wife was very happy with her choice too, as she said it was made from a chicken breast and not a patty.Her fries were very good too, as I may have tried a few. Don't understand some of these reviews except that many are very old. Our party of 4 went here on a very busy Saturday night. There was a wait of about 1/2 hour. Service was excellent! Went on a Sunday afternoon. Half the tables were empty, but dirty, so sat at the bar. 2 waitresses/bartenders for the entire place. They could not keep up. Customers had to clear off tables to sit down. The 2 owners were in and out, never noticed how busy and short staffed...Left without helping in any way. Food decent bar food.
