Amazing food and great customer service! Such a nice reprieve from the other food options in the area!!

Late to make this review, we were there a few weeks ago. That said we usually go once each time we are out there. Mostly because we try to make a stop at most of the restaurants in the area while in town. The sushi is fine. The steak is like 50/50 if it's good. The one consistent over the years is that the staff is not usually very friendly or too helpful. The bartender has always seemed to be the most friendly though. The seats are mostly booths which normally I love. However you share it with the peak pls behind you, and if they are heavier, you're bobbing up and down bc they aren't perfectly flat. At least ours wasn't last time which became VERY annoying very quickly. If you insist on sushi, stop by. It's not terrible, it's just ok overall. Had dinner at BB. They are open but with limited menu. Started with shisito peppers. Ok but not charred enough so tasted too raw. The fried shrimp good but the hamachi collar entree was raw in parts. Got sashimi salmon. Nicely plated. Was surprised how little salmon sashimi you get for $24. See photo. When we got check the sashimi was $24.50. I was told that was because they round up. Doesn't make sense but wonder if they do that to other customers. read more

We walked in to this hip, upscale casual restaurant with cool decor recommended by a long time friend who happens to be a local. The food was outstanding. We had the yellow tail app as well as sashimi and a couple rolls. Our server was outstanding and accommodating- he was able to get us a roll with some minor adjustments. We loved this place. Blue Buddha is a great dinner spot in the town center of Big Sky. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and couldn't get a seat until 8pm, but I would say it was worth the wait! We started with the gyoza and it was divine! My favorite roll of the night was the Volcano Roll. It definitely is on the pricey side, but where else can you get sushi in Big Sky! Definitely make the trip to Blue Buddha when you visit! read more

The food was good/Ok, but our waiter Jordan was terrible. He obviously doesn't understand food service, hospitality or what the word TIP means. It means To Insure Promptness! The table behind us couldn't even get his attention to order their sushi. Being fair I might try this place again if I knew Jordan wouldn't be there! read more

The service is so slow here I almost volunteered myself to work a night shift for free in the back and prepare our order myself. While waiting, I pulled up the Dominos menu and had garlic bread bites and stuffed cheesy bread in the cart ready to go to hold me over before dinner. I was genuinely concerned we were going to miss our flight the next morning waiting for our sushi to be served. We waited almost an hour and a half for our sushi rolls yet when we asked for the check, it came in seconds. Don't come here if you have somewhere to be afterwards. Typical catch-all Asian restaurant in a location that does not have many Asian dining options. Im probably more critical than others being a Korean who lives in CA.... but this was a pretty disappointing meal. The nigiri were the largest pieces of nigiri I had ever seen. Literally huge handfuls of rice with some fish on top. The fish quality was okay. The rolls were also huge. We ordered some to share and probably only half were actually good. Lots of baked rolls and cream cheese on the menu (red flag!!). I also had to explain to the server what ikura / salmon roe is. My friend who doesn't eat raw fish got the chicken teriyaki which tasted pretty much just like soy sauce... just like the very salty miso soup. I'm sure Asian food is harder to get in Montana than CA..... but that was just depressing lol. read more

However, the hostess was not (the one wearing a crop top when she shouldn't) -- she was extremely rude and abrasive for literally no reason other than having to do her job. Small restaurant with a fun vibe a nice bar. I would definitely recommend making a reservation as walk-ins could wait a while. The sushi and drinks were delicious. The Oreo dessert is an absolute must! Don't fill up too much on sushi! Trust me! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and they have a hidden room for private parties. service was horrible. We sat at the sushi bar for 45 mins before a waiter came and took our order. The sushi chef would not even look at us. we waited another 45 mins before we got some of what we ordered. I paid for all the food we ordered. We did not get the 2 rolls included in our order. When we brought it up to our waiter, he was insisted we got everything we ordered. I showed the manager our credit card receipt and he told me that the cops were coming because we didnt pay our bill. becareful going to this place since its the only sushi place in town. this place must be one of the cew places in usa that does not accept on line reservations. i called and left a voicemail with a range of potential times. the vm stated they check their vm at 3 pm and will call back with confirmation- or not. never got a call. called them when they officially opened the next day at 5pm. left another vm. tried several times after that - phone would be answered but immediately hung up without so much as a hello. screw this place. only sushi in town but thousands of places more considerate and probably better. don't go there! may e they will learn something about customer service read more

Well, the food was decent, we especially liked the scallops dish. This place is definitely pricey. Please note that they have an up charge from the prices on their menu because of their point of sale system. This is not disclosed anywhere, and what you are charged will be three or 4% more than what is listed in the menu. So be sure to look at your bill closely. read more

We were treated like they wanted us there from the moment we stepped in the door. We sat the the sushi bar and our service was excellent. And the food was outstanding. Yeah, I dug this place! Great vibe. Fun bar crowded with a diverse crowd. One of the only places around Big Sky that actually stays open past 8:00 pm. Big Sky area is very weird that way! We came to this sushi bar after a recommendation from a local. We realized we needed reservations but told the hostess we were okay with sitting at the bar. We were seated within 5 minutes. We asked for a few recommendations from our waitress, Erica, who, by the way, was awesome. She gave a few. We also talked to the chefs who were making the sushi right in front of us. We ended up ordering the edamame (appetizer) and the chef's 3 rolls special. We were able to specify that we love spicy and crunchy. We didn't wait long before our food was delivered. It was all SO GOOD! The drinks were strong, the food was perfect, and the staff was super friendly. We also loved the vibe inside the restaurant, and there was a live band playing outside. while the food is ok, it is the only Sushi restaurant in Big Sky and it appears they know it. They are packed each night so reservations are required. We had 7:30 reservations for 5 of us and did not get seated until 8:00 am which in itself is not terrible. The server was rude and mediocre. My son ordered pan fried dumplings and the server brought him steamed and said "Our fryer is down but I prefer them steamed". Then our sushi order did not get to our table until 9:45. when I asked the waiter at 8:45 what is the status on our order he did apologize and mumbled something about the rice and fryer again. He said I will comp you dessert due to the wait. Finally the Sushi came at 9:45 with a small plate of Wasabi and ginger for the 12 orders of Sushi. I requested more ginger please. When he came back to check on us I reminded him about the ginger. He stared at the empty plate of ginger originally brought and rolled his eyes. He returned with an unrealistic heaping mound of ginger on a plate and literally tossed it on the table as if to be annoyed with us. I laughed and replied "Now you are cooking". I am not in the habit of writing reviews but find it very dissatisfying when a restaurant is not apologetic to the customer. Skip it! Everyone is trying so hard....but until they hire more staff, it isn't a winner. I think they leave staff limited due to the kitchen restraints. They bought our dessert, which was a great gesture when this was a 1 star at best. Every roll has a jalapeño, not much variety. I hate to 'dog a place' where it is clear that everyone is trying their best...this is a management issue. We waited for hours, between being seated and served food. Sushi bar is usually quick...we saw the next rush hitting the door as we were leaving and you just feel sorry for everyone involved. They need more kitchen staff...sushi guys shouldn't be doing hot plates, soups, fried food, edamame. They need to move pressure off the sushi guys, and add more instant food. Arrived at 8:30pm. Service was so weird. The host AND the waiter. The waiter was so odd and our interactions were so weird as well. He talked so fast and was in a rush which seemed odd because the restaurant was NOT busy. The music was blasting heavy metal and we had a hard time hearing each other. Then there was the food. The waiter seemed to slam the drinks and food on the table. Dude was odd. The food....disgusting. Review for takeout Overall, they have a great selection of things to order from and their website is easy to navigate. I opted for the Lake Powell Roll and the Shrimp Tempura Roll. I loved the Lake Powell roll with the combination of salmon, avocado, mango, and jalapeño. I was hesitant as this was my first time having sushi in Montana but everything tasted great and the fish tasted very fresh. I look forward to eating at the restaurant in the future. read more

I have LOVED this place - come every time I'm in town (4 to 5 times per year). Sushi is creative and amazing; service is usually good. Not sure what happened tonight, but great drinks, great conversations, until we were told to leave - some miscommunication over the (lack in) tip?! Not sure. I've never left a place feeling more uncomfortable or bewildered. I hope an anomaly, but we talked with several friendly service staff leading up to this, and it felt premeditated. I hope not. Allegedly, reservations are required. It is not posted, listed, or mentioned anywhere. Our party was turned away due to not having a reservation. We later called and the hostess stated they had reservations available, yet they could not offer us one. This restaurant does not appear to be interested in serving tourists. There are plenty of much more welcoming restaurants in the area. read more

We had a very unfortunate experience here. We weee walkins and arrived @8:15 We were seated at around 8:30. We ordered quickly because we were all so hungry. Very simple meals 2 were the exact same and we only got water. Our waitress took our order and I just asked for some lemon for my water she came back 20-25 min later to tell me they had no lemon and I said no worries. Then she said she would get me lime which I really didn't care about and came back 20 min later with the smallest piece of lime I've ever seen. This wasn't really the bad part . Our biggest problem was that we sat with only water for 1 hr & 30 min. We were all starving our waitress never came back . So I asked for the manager and they finally found him to give him the feedback that he we were at an unacceptable level with how long we are waiting for our food. He never apologized just gave lame excuses about having too many reservations that he had to seat. I didn't even bother to tell him we were walkins . There was hardly anyone left in the restaurant but we still couldn't get our food until 10 min b4 closing and then the waitress was hurrying us along to take our plates b4 we were even finished . Also to note our food was cold. It was just a disaster of a meal . No one apologized for the bad service or acknowledged that they did not perform up to par. The food was as not great overly salty. Very long wait for food. Reservations were for 5:30pm and we didn't get anything till 6:30. We almost left. Food was ok. But the wait was ridiculous. Not sure if they were short staffed or had only one sushi chef but we decided not to go back end of the week. Our server was super nice. We noticed the sushi chef was socializing more than preparing meals. There was no sense of urgency.
