Yesterday at lunch time we visited the Blue Cactus. We had heard wonderful things and wanted to find out for ourselves. The town square was popping on a Saturday morning so parking was tough, but did not deter us! The restaurant at first glance is small but it is much bigger on the inside with a pretty outside section. My girlfriend got a Spicy Cilantro Margarita to drink. Which was not her favorite drink she has had. Mentioned it was strong alcohol taste so if that's for you then it's great but for her it wasn't her vibe. As for food we got Queso of course which paired with the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was very flavorful with a solid spice level. For our main we went with the Taco Tray. 10 tacos, 2 of whichever 5 you choose and 3 sides. We chose Carne Azada, Birria, Corner (Chorizo & Potato), BBQ Pork and Ensenada (Fried Chicken) tacos along with the side choices of Re-fried beans, Mexican Rice and Spicy Veggies with Quinoa. The tacos also come with cilantro, onion and tomatillo salsa. All 3 sides were nice to pair with all tacos. It was nice to mix and match all the various toppings on the tacos to find the best flavor. Taco Rankings for us were as follows. 1 Birria (Great Flavor overall) 2 Ensenada (Surprise of the meal but a great one) 3 Azada (Hard to mess up, great baseline) 4 Corner (Dry and Bland alone but with sides and toppings was tasty) 5 BBQ Pork (Pineapple in the meat did not work with anything other than the meat itself.) Overall the service was good despite being very busy it seemed. We will be back to try more tacos and other items. The only items we do not plan to get again are the margarita and the BBQ pork tacos. We will most likely pass on the Corner tacos as well in favor of trying another taco. Suggestion is Birria and Ensenada tacos are must gets!! read more

The only good thing about this place is the decor and clean bathrooms. The place was almost empty as we went for a late lunch 1:30.-2 pm and still the service could not have been worse. Our kid was given a printed paper kid menu with activity with no crayons(which almost at the end of the visit we found they had but never bothered to give) . We were served 2 glasses heavily iced water (without checking with us , no water for our kiddo) and then for the longest time no one came by. After a while when the server came, we asked for water with no ice and one kiddie cup which the server didn't look pleased to bring -just dumped unceremoniously minus straws. It's like the staff here don't care or are super lazy. They just sat there chitchatting near the bar area with some drinks in hand and I had to literally stand/wave to get their attention which didn't work either so I walked to the back to ask for the straws. They never bothered to clear the iced water from our table. The server had no recommendations on food and when we asked spice levels on some items she was clueless. The food was bland at best with no flavor. The tacos were just a meh! And at almost $5 for a taco we have had much better for way cheaper at other places.. The side of roasted vegetables with quinoa was a joke - just vegetables with a sprinkle of uncooked quinoa in it!!!?! Nobody came to check with us if we needed anything else once our initial order was delivered. Again had to walk back to the servers to ask for the cheque by which point we were just done with this place! OMG!!! YESSS!!! I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I'm going to be honest, I was expecting an Americanized Mexican restaurant, and wow was I wrong!!!! I absolutely LOVED coming to the Blue Cactus and would 100% recommend!! The drive from where I live to there is 50 minutes, and it is SO WORTH IT!!! When you get seated they give you chips and salsa, and the salsa has some spice to it, and it is perfectly blended, it's obvious they make the chips in house, we got the chorizo balls, they were lightly fried and had a sauce underneath them that wowed us. We also got the corn tacos with truffles that are an experience everyone must try at some point in their lives. We also got these steak tacos that were seasoned to perfection and had a twist to their taste. I was a bit concerned at first as I didn't think it would be filling, and I was so pleasantly surprised. The wife and I were in Franklin and saw this good looking Mexican place. This was the first time for us eating here the decor was very Mexican and had a fun factor to it. The service was fantastic. The chips were homemade but a bit stale. The salsa was delicious. I ordered a chorizo And pork Street tacos. They were a little bland for my taste, especially the pork one. It was just a corn tortilla with a lot of pork in it. The pork was good but very little flavor. My wife had the polo which was chicken and a spicy cheese sauce she absolutely loved it, but it was a tad too spicy for her. Overall, the atmosphere was great. The service was fantastic. The food and service was not good!!! My mom & I both ordered the chicken chimichanga and there was hardly any chicken in it and the chorizo dried it out. It looked like beef, so I asked the waitress about it and she said the chicken and chorizo was mixed together, but I seriously saw one little piece of chicken in the chimichanga and it did not have much flavor either. To be fair, my fiancé had the shrimp & scallops dish and it was very good. The waitress was not friendly and I spoke with the manager about the situation with the food, but he did nothing to rectify the situation. Not even apologize to us. $75 for 4 people to eat authentic Mexican food and Taco Bell would have been better. We definitely will not return. read more

I chose black beans as my side and those black beans were wonderful. Tasty, perfectly prepared and fresh. My partner always goes fajita on me and of course the steak fajita was awesome. Our food was prepared sooner than expected, which is never a complaint. My wife ordered the Carne Asada Tacos (certified angus rib-eye, caramelized onion, spinach and molcajete sauce) on corn tortillas with a side of Spicy Veggies and Quinos. I ordered the Street Tacos (steak, chorizo, pineapple, onion, cilantro and tomatillo sauce) on flour tortillas with a side of Mexican Rice. The food was delicious! The tacos were packed with flavor, and you could taste all the ingredients perfectly. Neither one of us had any complaints and really enjoyed our visit! We decided to stop here for lunch and a cocktail. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. They seated us back near the bar. They have a pretty good drink menu and I found something that I have never tried before, a spicy cilantro margarita. It was a very good drink but if you do not like cilantro do not get it. The hubby got an XX Amber Beer and he does not care for craft beer so a lot of times these days there isn't a beer on the menu that he likes but I am glad that he liked this one. They brought out chips and salsa and one of the things I liked about their service for that was each person had their own bowl with a little carafe from which to dump the salsa from. We both ordered the taco stampler and the two tacos that I chose were the Barbacoa and the Carne Azada. They load these tacos up with meat and they come naked so that you can put your own toppings on which they serve on the side. I do not remember what tacos the hubby got but he sure did like them! Cute place and some of the staff are very friendly. Some were aloof and I guess don't know how to smile or were having bad days. Lots of kids everywhere, but, it's Franklin. You either get college students or families. We sat at the bar expecting quicker service, but things took twice as long. It took 25 minutes for my burrito bowl to come to the table and I am the only one who had an entree. Food is OK. Not much seasoning or spice on anything. I had a burrito bowl which was ok, but the salad greens were not dressed leaving me to top it with salsa. The house made hot salsa was not hot. I found the food bland, but, I'm a Hoosier now living in California and I like my spicy spicy and my food very flavorful. Top shelf margarita was made with orange juice, despite the menu stating it wasn't. I do not like those types of margaritas, but, c'est la vie. They have a wide range of tacos, and I was excited to see huitlacoche on the menu. The tacos were phenomenal. Just the right amount of stuffing on what appeared to be a house-made tortilla. It wasn't too think but still managed not to break when it was filled. They have a margarita flight with twelve different options. Do yourself a favor and GET THIS. Get the spicy veggies and quinoa!!! My niece and I went here for lunch. I would have loved to have ordered one of their many, many margaritas but alas, I was driving and I don't drive after even one drop of alcohol....so that serves as a good reason to go back some time with my husband. I ordered the veggie burrito bowl which apparently comes with different veggies than their spicy veggies with quinoa but they allowed the custom order. I don't care what you order, get the spicy veggies with quinoa. Get it as a side to your entree. Get it as an add-on. Just get it. They are so good. The veggies have a nice level of spiciness and the quinoa adds a tiny pop of crunch. I darn near asked if I could just get a container if them to go. Four stars instead of five because once our server had run my credit card and returned it to me, she stopped serving us and never returned to our t. Hot new taco place in Franklin! We got there around 7 on a Saturday night and it was a 40 minute wait. I put my name in and came back after I didn't get a call and there was some mix up with the waiting list. Seems like they're a little overwhelmed and still ironing out the bugs. They did seat us after checking in, so I'm glad we didn't have to wait more. We got chips, salsa and queso to start. Salsa is ok. Queso is very good. Next up was the tacos. I had the Corner Tacos - three for $12 and a choice of a side. Comparable to the prices of the upscale spots in Indy, so no complaints here. Corner Tacos come with potatoes, chorizo, a sauce and topped with cheese. They were good, but not spicy. I like a kick to my food and expected that with the chorizo but was a little disappointed by that. Also, you have to get three of the same tacos. I would rather mix and match. I think that's a downside to the menu. My mom got shrimp tacos and she said her food was very spicy! So next time, I'll try a different one and see. The side of Mexican rice was delicious- perfectly seasoned and I wanted more. Also tried the Octopus mixed drink - a margarita mixed with Sangria. Sweet and tart. A great combo. Recommend trying this place out - Franklin really needed something other than MOE's and the traditional Mexican restaurants that don't specialize in tacos. read more

The vibe inside the restaurant is so fun and vibrant, making this a perfect location for drinks after work or dinner with friends. We stopped in for a quick dinner as we were passing through town. We were seated right away, our service was excellent throughout our meal and they had us on our way again in no time. I had the chicken chipotle street tacos, served on fresh corn tortillas (my favorite) and a side of black beans. Everything was delicious and very filling! Really hate to leave this review, but our experience was pretty terrible from the beginning to the end. First, when we walked in and gave our party size (12) the hostess acted like she had never heard of a party that large even though we were not even close to the close of business and they were not that busy for a Friday night. After a short wait, we were seated on the "patio" and that was fine. We got our orders taken, but almost no margaritas options in frozen. The salsa was extra spicy, which is fine as long as there's a less spicy option for those that don't prefer it. When food was brought out, two in our party didn't even receive their meals and we had to track down a server to get them for us, our server never checked on us to make sure everything came out okay. One cheese quesadilla was barely blessed with cheese. Finally, one person had finished their drink before their meal was brought out and didn't get a refill on their drink until they had finished eating only after asking when the check was brought out. The high point was that the waitress who was helping the table next to us and working the bar was very nice and helpful, much more so than our waiter. This is a new restaurant in the Pavilion. I don't remember what it replaced. The tortillas (corn and white corn) are obviously homemade and are really good. The menu is very taco-heavy (which I don't mind at all). These are Mexican street-style tacos so don't expect to see lettuce and shredded cheese on them. read more

This great lil funky feel not your average Mexican restaurant, but it is downtown Franklin, great twist in the tacos gives it that separation from the other spots, but if your looking for the traditional dishes this isn't your place nice bar selection the staff was super friendly especially with the hoard of kids that was with me, they have a nice liil kids selection so they will be satisfied the outdoor seating is enclosed with an automatic roof, it's definitely a nice "date night" place.... What can i, yum!! I went here while in town visiting my boyfriend. Had lunch, the fajitas with carne asada and the tequila flight. The food was amazing! My only complaint was the drinks were premade so you couldn't taste the alcohol in them but otherwise food and service was great! The tacos were so good the first time, we had to come back and try it again. We weren't disappointed! After browsing the Farmer's Market and shops on the town square, we headed to Blue Cactus. We were greeted with a smile and were allowed to be seated outside, in their covered patio area. Our server was fantastic. We had waters, chips, and salsa right away. Drink orders and guacamole - with just enough heat to make you take notice - soon followed. On this visit, we both decided to try the pollo con calavaza. It's chicken with zucchini, corn, peppers, and a creamy sauce. It was a generous portion and made yummy leftovers for another meal. The tacos that we had at the first visit were delicious, so it was a difficult decision on whether to try something new or enjoy more tacos.
