I normally don't leave reviews, but I wanted to share my experience. During my massage, the therapist did not ask what level of pressure I was comfortable with before starting and immediately used very heavy pressure. I had to ask twice for her to go softer because it was uncomfortable. Another thing that made me uncomfortable was the way tipping was handled. It felt very pressured and almost demanded, which I have honestly never experienced before at a massage place. Unfortunately, a few minutes after leaving, my legs became extremely itchy, and when I got home I noticed multiple red bumps on my legs, which I believe may have been a reaction to the oil that was used during the massage. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so future customers can have a better experience. read more

This was my first time going to W Spa and the staff were friendly and kind. I was running 5 minutes late due to traffic and they were really understanding. My friend and I booked the 90 minute massage and it was such a treat! The massage room was super clean and the bed sheets were fresh which is super important for me to feel comfortable throughout the massage. One person on staff while I was getting a massage, which prompted her to leave the room every time someone walked in the door. They also REQUIRE a specific tip amount which is so strange to me. Why not just raise your prices if you want a certain amount per client? I won't return, but it was decent while in a pinch. read more

My friend treated me to a $40 30 minute deep tissue massage yesterday. Getting an appointment same day and within an hour was maybe lucky on our end. My masseuse's name was Angela--She was very nice. I had a lot of painful knots in my neck, shoulders, and lower back from being on the computer a lot and from doing yard work the previous day. I also have been depressed for a long time, so this was definitely an uplifting treat. My body felt a little better after the massage and my friend's kind gesture warmed my heart. Don't waste your time and money here. Massages are barely ok and the customer service is terrible! I got a massage a couple nights ago,m. The therapist complained to me that she had to stay just for me (even though it is their open hours). During the massage she wouldn't use more pressure and only massaged half my body -- it was a 1 hour full body massage!! She spent time talking to someone outside the door and finished 5 minutes early. Then she has the guts to ask me for more tip (I put $10 for a $60 half assed massage). She told me she has to ask because customers are cheap and don't respect her work. She wanted a minimum of $20 tip. Tldr: Crappy massage, terrible attitude and beg you for tips read more

Probably one of the worst experiences ever! Highly do not recommend. I needed one real bad and it was one of the cheaper ones in Palo Alto. This proves that cheap aint good sometimes but it was still 65 bucks for a Swedish Massage. When I first walked in, this lady told me to pay first and requested cash. I gave her my credit card but she said cash is better do you have cash so I was like okay that's fine whatever. During the massage, she didn't ask how's the pressure but kept saying.. ''Feeling good? Feeling good? Which imo is super awkward." What if I said no, are you going to stop? Overall it was not comfortable and I didn't feel relaxed at all. (spare you the details) When its finished (THANK GOD). She was standing right there then asked ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE ME TIPS? DO YOU GIVE TIPS? I was going to give something but that just made it super awkward for someone to ask. Usually SPAs have envelopes etc. So we walked outside.. I only had a 20 and didn't want to give her that obviously. I said can you break this 20? She said I can't .. can you give me 20.. 20 is fine. I said no.. either charge my card 10 dollars or break the 20. read more

Getting massages is not cheap, I would recommend spending your money elsewhere. I had the hot stone massage. Most importantly, they weren't professional at all. The therapist kept the door open first 5 min., kept talking to someone outside as she was "massaging" my foot with one hand. Another therapist came into the room and they chatted while I was laying there. The massage itself was also very poorly done. I've had many massages before and have a high tolerance for pressure but this one was extremely painful. I kept telling her to do lighter pressure and she kept pressing harder. I told her multiple times she was hurting me. It was very obvious that she was not professionally trained ( or didn't understand me at all). I was seriously worried about getting injured the whole time. I'm sorry but if you're charging $120 for a massage, you need to have a professional masseuse who knows what she is doing. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with W Spa. I arrived on time and was greeted nicely by a few employees. Handed my paper Groupon coupon to the receptionist and followed Chloe to the massage room. Appeared clean and very simply decorated. There were no chairs in the room so I asked about where to put my belongings and they showed me two large double hooks on the door. I undressed and the hooks held all my belongings. Then I was given a paper cup of water, which I saved for after the massage. The massage bed was fine, not too hard nor too soft and unheated, but heat was not necessary because the room temperature was fine ( and I'm usually cold!) Nowhere at this point was I asked about any sores, aches, illnesses, or pressure preferences. Nor was I given any questionnaires about want I wanted or expected or any history of anything they may have needed to know. Chloe proceeded to massage..........wonderful massage. Just the right pressure and nice stroking with lotion. Lighting was dim and I wasn't bothered by any noises, if there was some. I just enjoyed the hour. The only thing I would mention would be the sheet could have covered more body than what she covered. I sometimes thought I was a little bit uncovered. I didn't want the time to end, but it finally ended and I got dressed and left. No hassle with tipping as I've had before at other massage places. Yes, I did tip because I liked the massage, not because someone is telling me to tip! I also, had no problems with making reservations. I called and spoke with someone and picked a day and time that was available. Overall a good experience and would do it again. read more

I've come here for a massage about four-five times now and I love this place. I usually get deep tissue massages and the deep tissue work here has always been great. This is more of a no-frills kind of spa, without a sauna/steam-room, shower kind of deal. But the massage quality is great. Just tell them where your trouble spots are or point them out and they will handle it. And whenever I have requested light and or more pressure in certain areas during my massage the therapist has always done what I asked. Also, on some occassions the receptionist has given me small discounts ($10) off for my massage. If you're looking for a convenient, no frills, but still high-quality massage I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Great for what it is - an inexpensive, no-frills, no-nonsense massage. I got deep tissue for 30 minutes for $50 and it was indeed deep - as the therapist said, "no pain no gain". I really like having the option of a 30 minute massage as that is rare. Just don't expect frills. read more

Wonderful value, easy access just off University Ave! I had a 30 minute massage by Ashley which felt like it was an hour. The staff were very friendly, and the massage quality was very good. However, they have some kinks to work out in their sound system and overall the salon was not as posh as some can be. Horrible experience!! My massage therapist clearly had NO experience. I have never wanted a massage to end so badly. First of all, she watched a how-to video on her phone the entire time and did her best to follow the video. She left me mostly exposed the entire time. I had to pull the sheets to cover my body as I was freezing. As she climbed over me to massage my lower back, her knee was resting against my head, causing her to sit on me. She would do one thing on one side of the body and never did the same thing on the other side. She never had me flip over to do anything to my front. As I had had enough to say, "No more! Stop!" the manager came in. I had to beg them both to leave the room so that I could get dressed. Please do yourself a favor and skip a massage if this is your only alternative... read more

We used a groupon voucher for an hour long massage each- it was a great deal! My husband and I both had Chloe and she was really excellent. She asked us where we'd like for her to focus on and really listened. I had very tense shoulders and she worked away on each knot and kink. Do not make online booking here! They will not honor your bookings and give the runaround. I made a booking last week and they claimed that they never received the booking information and that we shoudn't do online booking! Why do they have online booking if it didn't work. They even claim to save 5$ if you do online booking. I paid via paypal and didn't receive the service. They don't reply to emails and I am now working with paypal to get my money back. I have no idea how the massage would have been and I am not going there again. The lady had communication problem and clearly didn't understand when I said that I made a booking. read more

I work in the Stanford area 2x/week and I really needed a massage before my shift. I was pressed for time and was calling around a bunch of places to see if they could squeeze me in. W Spa was the only place that had an opening but, it was perfect because it was so close and I could still get a 60min massage before my shift. I arrive and was greeted by a really nice lady. She requested I pay for my massage first, which I thought was a little strange.. but, I just paid it and figured I would tip after. My therapist was really nice and she did an OK job. I'm somewhat sensitive so I don't usually ask for heavy pressure, but there were some moments where I felt like she wasn't applying any pressure. She spent a lot of time on my glutes, which I needed because I work out quite a bit and was probably tense there. But, I didn't feel completely covered the entire time and had to keep yanking the sheet to make sure I was covered in the areas she wasn't massaging. It was cold and I was very aware. For a 60 min massage though, I didn't really like that it was $65. Feel like that's kind of high.. but at least I tried it. Probably wouldn't come back though since it's a little pricey. read more

I had their brochure sitting in my office for month. Today, I had a sudden onset of shoulder and I thought to myself when I get home in SF, I should get a massage but I can't wait that long then the W Spa brochure caught me eye sitting in my inbox. It said walk in welcome so I walked in around 1:30pm and requested a 15 chair massage for a quick fix. The lady took me into the back room told me to face down. Well I followed instruction. She gave me a fantastic 15 minutes back massage. At the end she asked if I would like to extend to a 1/2 hour massage. I went for it and it was great. I walked out of the spa with no trace of back pain. I will definitely go back. read more
