Pecan waffle with eggs and bacon
    Lori F.

This place has been here forever. We came here pretty early 6:45am. We were acknowledged immediately and told to choose any seat in this section. Sat down and our waiter Craig took my immediate drink order and brought my hot coffee creamer and sweetener and our menus. Took a minute to order I got the pecan waffle and eggs with bacon. He got the pancakes and with eggs and sausage. I tell you Waffle House who? IHOP who? My waffle was perfectly crispy outside and soft inside and no skimping on the pecans. The pancakes were so fluffy. The eggs cooked perfectly and my bacon (which I find is sporadic to get it just the way I want) was exceptionally crispy and soft at the same time like I hoped and made me happy. I forget about this place but haven't had a bad experience here yet. I have to keep this place in mind anytime I want a delicious breakfast.

Cute old style diner. Excellent friendly service! Family dining experience with comfortable booths and old fashioned decor. I almost ordered the wagon wheel breakfast with eggs, grits, meat pancakes etc but another guest had the shrimp and grits and it looked too good to pass up. Oh my am I am so glad ! Shrimp and grits heaven with a perfect mild creole sauce and fresh diced tomatoes! My husband ordered chicken and mushrooms with onions and cornbread. He said it was good ended up asking for more onions. The only thing I would say is the bathroom could be cleaner in the toilet are the plumbing on floor area could stand a deep clean.

Truly one of the GREATS in Jacksonville Diners! There aren't many Famous Amos restaurants left, but this location is worth the visit. The service is fantastic here and their food is amazing. Highly recommend their burgers and patty melt. We are never disappointed. Our waitress, Delores, was exceptional. Comfortable atmosphere. Fast and friendly service at a reasonable price! Just Do It! Look forward to breakfast.

The burger is greasy/wet, it is drenched in a bland cheese sauce, the meat is underseasoned, and the patty has no sear. Definitely not worth anything near the $21 cost. The salmon BLT is served on bread that is cut so thick you're mostly just eating old/stale bread, and the sandwich is also greasy. Their french fries come drenched in a disgusting garlic oil and cheap grated parmesan. It's bad cooking dressed up to look fancy without any understanding of the basics. The restaurant fits as well. Its ugly artwork is accompanied by furniture that looks like it was ripped out of a Le Pain Quotidien. The cakes look amazing, and the bar is nicely designed and well stocked, but neither saves the drab surrealist-cafeteria vibe of this pretentious establishment.

Breakfast anyone?…read more On this Mother's Day all I wanted was some coffee and something yummy for my belly. So we all got in the car and headed to Avondale for The Fox Restaurant. When you walk up it's a cute small restaurant that packs a mighty punch with their decor, vibe and the menu. Normally the line is pretty long to get it but it moved quickly. While in line I was greeted by the owner Ian. He was so friendly and charismatic. He sat me down as I waited for my husband and kid to join and handed me a nice hot coffee which was soooooo good! The restaurant is decorated with all vintage art work and hand drawn art work from patrons. As well as different signs with funny phrases. My favorite was sign said " If you are grouchy, irritable or just plain mean, there will be a $10 charge for putting up with you". Hahah I read it to my son because he tried to get mad about his dad taking forever to get the tablet out the car lol. Now back to the food! I had the French toast, with eggs over medium, turkey sausage and fruit. Everything was so good! I also caught a glimpse of their biscuits and I will definitely be back to try them. Besides the excellent service there I like that my Togo items were in a bag that said "Eat Local, Eat Often". I try to buy local as much but more importantly I love being able to support a local business as well as something that is a staple in the community. If you're even in Avondale or you're thinking of breakfast make sure you go to The Fox Restaurant!

The ambiance was inviting, we were treated like old friends from the moment we walked in. If we do not return to visit on this trip, we definitely will the next!

I had not been here in several months and I was surprised by how many open tables they had at the end of the lunch rush. We were greeted upon entering and our party of five was seated at a 6 top in the back of the restaurant. This small room in the back is honestly one of my favorite places to sit as it is away from the hustle and bustle of the main dining area. Over server (Lauren) was polite, cheerful and considerate. She promptly took our drink orders and then took our meal orders without missing a beat even when there were modifications or special requests. While we were waiting on our food, drinks did run dry which was the only hiccup of the whole meal. When our food arrived, everything was well prepared and visually appealing. We ordered the following: 1. Half order of chicken and waffles (white meat only) with syrup, butter, etc on the side 2. Cheeseburger without onion and fries 3. Cheeseburger without onion and tomato and fries 4. Club with onion rings 5. Cheesesteak with onion rings My club was a great sandwich and their onion rings are top notch. It was a filling meal for a big eater. My wife always gets the chicken and waffles and likes that you can get it in a half order with your choice of white meat only, dark meat only or chicken tenders. Two of my kids got cheeseburgers and they were dripping with melted cheese (not even sure the 16 yr old tasted his he inhaled it so fast). My other son got a steak and cheese on a sub roll with onion rings and I stole a bite - it was really good. At the end of the meal, you pay your check table-side through the toast app via a QR code on your phone. Or you can pay with a scanner. Also, Lauren was nice enough to give us to go drinks for the road.

However, after multiple visits, the overall experience has not matched the level of hype surrounding the restaurant. Portion sizes relative to pricing remain the primary concern, making the value feel uneven despite the appealing setting. I work in the area and have gone with several office mates. We've tried several dishes and sandwiches but still can't understand the extreme hype. I was told the Chorizo was spicy and it was so bland I felt like I was eating Hilshire Farms kielbasa. Pros: * Outdoor Dining - Pleasant outdoor dining area that provides a comfortable place to relax * Service - Consistently friendly service and a casual neighborhood feel * Variety - Menu crafted by highly regarded chef‑owners with strong culinary credentials * Location - Murray Hill location for a laid‑back meal or meet‑up * The best dish on the menu has been the pork sandwich - which is half a sub roll and plantain chips Cons: * Pricing - Pricing feels high for the portion sizes (e.g., three chicken legs at $23) * Expectations - Overall experience does not fully align with the restaurant's reputation * Some dishes feel more modest than expected given the cost Chancho King is a great place to unwind in the neighborhood, but the pricing-to-portion balance left me wanting more.

For appetizers, we ordered the carpaccio, sourdough focaccia, and the 'nduja arancini with a goat cheese crema. All 3 were fabulous and I'm still dreaming about the focaccia bread (garlic soffritto, calabrian chili, served with parmigiano butter). For the mains, we decided to share the caesar salad, rigatoni bolognese, chicken 'nduja, and carrots with whipped ricotta. The bolognese was by far my favorite and I'd love to try more of their pasta dishes in the future. Then onto the desserts! The tiramisu and olive oil cake are not to be missed. One had children's spaghetti with chicken because she gets skeezed out with veal in the meatballs. But her dish was excellent. The sourdough focaccia bread was excellent & fresh! I love a traditional Chicken Piccata & knew that's what I wanted on the way in! But wait... even though it's on the Chefs specials card - it's not chicken piccata at all. It's a breaded fried hammered out cutlet a think chicken parm. But mine was a tad overcooked. And they've created a stone ground Dijon & artichoke spread to put over the top with arugula & fresh graded parm. It was okay... but man.. just make a damn good true to form traditional piccata please. Name this chef special something else. Piccata it's not. House Cab was good! Wouldn't hesitate to go back. I realize you're trying to stand out from a busy & competitive area & same ol same ol. Very reasonably priced & value. Also thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside & having our puppy with us. I ventured inside & they have a large bar that looked awesome with a generous number of seats. The bartenders were talented with the shakers, upbeat & professional without killing the ambiance of the room. Bathrooms were not labeled men/women & had 4-5 with a family one. Loved the old original doors, wood work & history of the building. Enjoyed our groups visit!
