Alright, so today was a good day and they definitely deserve for me to increase my review by two stars. A lot of what I said still holds true, but today I ordered the sesame chicken and this dish was actually delicious and well worth it for the price. For 6.95, you get several chunks of fresh well-seasoned/sauced chicken, broccoli florets, zucchini, fried rice and egg drop soup. Everything tasted fresh, was piping hot and contained decent flavors. This is definitely worth the price and I will go there again whenever my coworkers want to go since it is close to where I work. Nice portions and staff. We like to get their crunchy noodles for an appetizer (only a buck!) I usually get their chicken & vegetables with fried rice (a.k.a. moo goo gai pan) or sweet & sour chicken and always hot sour soup. Then I get a doggy bag. Ok so I am really picky about hot and sour soup and they do it my way. Moo goo gai pan I love as well and they also make it the way I like. Sitting here tonight doing something different for the dinner and had the crispy duck. It was good. Crispy and on top of a brown sauce with sautéed onions and green peppers. I would probable stay with my regular because I am a creature of habit but I have to branch out more. I was pleased. So, I had the pleasure of meeting Frank the owner who has been here for 41 years and he is quite a pleasure. And his niece was my server and she was not only delightful but also a great server. Went for Saturday lunch when they opened. It was not too crowded since it was just opening. We were seated quickly and had someone ready to take our order. After requesting time to review the menu, she brought out water. The place started to fill up fast. There clearly are regulars as they requested specific servers. Ordered the crab Rangoon and fried rice. The crab Rangoon came out fast. It was really good. Taste freshly made which makes for a good appetizers. It didn't take long for my fried rice to come. I liked the flavor of the rice. I am not a fan of dark meat chicken and should have asked when I ordered. Didn't eat the chicken but did enjoy the fried rice itself. This was my first visit. It was a good experience. I had a good server who was attentive. Overall the food was good. I was not in the mood to try a chicken dish but will be back to explore the menu more. read more

I've been going here for years, and have made my first post-pandemic visits recently. Seems there are some new, younger staff members, and some dishes are prepared a little differently than in the past, but, it's still good. Generous portions, attentive service, and everything we had was tasty. It's not the most authentic Asian food around, but, you can count on all your favorite standard Chinese dishes. They do a huge carryout business as well. In case they read these --- most of the vegetables could use a little steaming or extra time in the wok -- the broccoli, carrots, and zucchini in all of our dishes were hot but still just about raw. read more

I was surprisingly shocked at how good, cheap and relatively clean this restaurant was. A few coworkers wanted to come here and as per the usual I went to Yelp to see reviews. I pulled up to the restaurant and was instantly like...NO! Walked in and was shocked! They had a large lunch crowd, which told me something is good here. Folks at the table got soup and apps. I'm not a big Chinese food person so I stuck with sweet and sour chicken. The lunch portion was huge and only like $5. Overall I was impressed with the restaurant, servers and the speediness of receiving our food. I probably won't return unless I'm with others but wouldn't mind doing so! read more

Have heard so many good things about the Blue Gibbon over the years, but I think tonight is the first time I have eaten here in at least 20 years. They have been here at least 35 years, so they obviously are doing things right. I'm sorry I waited so long, because this place was terrific. Our party of 4 had some egg rolls, hot and sour and wonton soup--entrees were Moo Goo Gai Pan, Egg Foo Yung, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Szechuan Chicken. We all liked our dishes--they were perfectly prepared and yummy. Portion sizes were very generous and all of us took some home. Service was friendly and attentive. This is our go-to for Chinese takeout. They have a pretty long menu, so you can experience a variety of dishes. I recommend trying the ones under "Authentic Chinese Cuisine" and "Chef's Specials" headers. The quality is better than average. Here is my take on several favorites: Chop Suey Combo: Yes, this has everything but the kitchen sink in it, but that makes it healthy. Lots of vegetables and proteins in a light (watery but flavorful) sauce. My usual order. Pork with Bean Sprouts: Really nice texture and light and healthy tasting. You can eat or not eat the whole Szechuan chilis in the mix depending on what spice level you like. They really don't make that much of a difference, spice wise, but they add that light smoky flavor. Moo Shu Pork. I like the meat, cabbage, and mushroom filling but the pancakes need some work. They are thick, like flour tortillas, and so I usually toss them or save them for breakfast burritos. Roast pork with Vegetables: Delicious and simple. Nice big pieces of broccoli and other veg included. Hot and Sour Soup: Very good. Fried Rice: Quite bland. Just tastes of oil. I'd like a bit more vegetables chopped up in there, and maybe some spice. We can get lunch for the two of us for $13! Dinner is typically twice that much but can easily produce leftovers. read more

I definitely prefer the sesame chicken from my first visit. The waiter that we had was very good. He was on top of all the orders - even the one to-go order we had. We had a classmate lunch here recently and left disappointed! The place has no heat, bathrooms were filthy and a quick peek of the kitchen as we left was horrible. Soup was lukewarm and food was not ver tast. This place used to be good but I won't return because it shows no investment in atmosphere, food or customer. Avoid this place! read more

Back in the 80s my mother and her friends frequented Blue Gibbon. I used to BEG her to share. As with many long established restaurants in Cincinnati, Blue Gibbon has declined in quality and service. I recently gave it another try and have deciding against ever returning. The food was hot but stale tasting and the staff was not very welcoming. So sad. read more

First time eating here, very quit nice laid back ambience, waitress was new, but great at her job, very helpful knowledgeable, friendly and took her time answering all of our questions. All of the food was hot and fresh the cheese crab ragons were so light crispy with plenty of cheese making them some of the best Crab Ragons, pork egg rolls were just as fresh and flavorful. My husband ordered general tos chicken not as sweet and spicy as were use to, but again very fresh and flavorful i ordered my favorite chicken and shrimp pad Thai which is also a little less hot and sweeter then what I'm use to buy the chicken and shrimp so darn fresh noodles were so good and plentiful we have over half of it left because portion are pretty hearty. I'm giving it a 4 die to the sweet and Spicy not being enough to give it just a little more kick then just playing it safe. We will definitely be back can't wait. read more

This is my favorite lunch spot! The owner and staff are kind and generous. I always get the Wonton soup which is nice and hot and soothing even on a hot day! I then switch between spicy shrimp pad Thai and bourbon chicken with veggies. They tend to be conservative with the spicy so you have to really tell them directly that you want it spicy. When I was growing up, there was a Chinese place near Washington DC that had some of the most authentic Chinese food I have ever had. Even though I've moved out to Cincinnati, I remain on the lookout for really authentic places. Enter Blue Gibbon Chinese Restaurant. I have eaten here a few times and tried quite a few of their dishes, from their peking duck to their Thai grilled chicken. They have many things that your casual American Chinese diner would recognize: sweet and sour pork, general tso's, etc. They also have an "authentic Chinese" section with traditional and authentic dishes. I've been brave and tried a few and they are also amazing. Part of what makes this food so good is that it's all made fresh. The egg rolls and spring rolls are made right in their kitchen and fried there, leaving them with golden, flaky crusts. The sauces are made right in store and don't taste prepackaged like would be expected in most Chinese restaurants. The price is reasonable, the food is good. I'm a fan. read more

This place isn't in the best area and the place is dated, but don't let that stop you from visiting here! Lunch is super cheap, good portion sizes. Lunch comes with soup that I could take or leave but I'm not a soup person. Dinner is reasonably priced with huge portions. Fried rice is on point and every dish I've tried has been tasty. My husband loves their cheeseburger and double cheeseburger here. Both are huge. I've been here dozens of times and my food has always come out quickly and hot.
