I had absolutely no idea this town existed until we took the back roads from Big Bear Lake back to Los Angeles a few weeks ago. When we entered the small town of Blue Jay I was pretty excited since I'm a life long Toronto Blue Jays fan and a lover of small blue birds in general. Almost as soon as you enter the town you also drive by Blue Jay Burger and that was enough for us to pull the car into the drive through and take a gander at the menu. This place looks like a pretty typical fast food establishment with burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and the beverages to help wash them all down. Now, I don't remember the name of the sandwich I ordered but it doesn't seem to be on the restaurants website so I'll just throw out a a description. I didn't order a burger, I ordered a sort of stank sandwich between a burger patty and the sandwich itself was pretty solid. The sandwich had lettuce and tomato on it and did the job. The french fries were also solid, being lightly crispy and having solid flavour. The funniest thing I ate at this place was the chicken nuggets which were ALMOST indentical to a McDonald's McNugget from the shape to the flavour, but hey, no complaints from this guy. Overall, I'm sure Blue Jay Buger is a great place to have if you live in a town like Blue Jay. This fast food shop offers some local community flavour instead of the copy and paste chains most places have and that's certainly not a bad thing. Although this wasn't the best of anything I've ever had, it was a solid spot for a quick lunch before we were back on the road. Is it worth stopping by? I think so, it's always nice to grab some food off the beat and path and experience some small town flavour. read more

Stopped by the drive-thru to check out the burgers. We both had the cowboy burgers; Onion rings, bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce, and small fries, it was $27 ouch!!! Burger was not seasoned, tasted bland, similar to a frozen patty from a flat top, also undercooked with pink in the middle. Not bad, not good, but not great, definitely not worth $27 bucks! First time in lake arrowhead. We were all very hungry and decided to stop by a burger joint. Burgers were amazing! I expected a frozen flat patty. It was huge and it was not frozen. Looks handmade. I love the quality as well. My husband ordered fish tacos and he loved it as well. I still think about how delicious my burger was. This burger place has changed hands several times since McDonalds gave up its lease on the building. I wrote a review one year ago, but this past summer I noticed that it was under new management once again. I always order the Beyond veggie burger and have now been there 3 times so they must be doing something right because I usually only try it once a year when the "Under new management" sign goes up. Tried Blue Jay Burger for the first time tonight. Went through the drive thru and got a #3 combo. The burger patties are massive, very solid burger and so incredibly filling. The fries are absolutely incredible, certainly my favorite fry now. Everything seems fresh made to order and the prices are extremely fair, incredible value. The soda is great too, ice cold and great tasting Dr Pepper and Coke. Wife and I will definitely be back, our new go to place for a burger and fries. read more

This is a small cozy place. The restaurant is very clean, and the people are friendly. They have a variety of different types of food. If you are a breakfast person 24-7 this is the spot for you. They have breakfast all day. I have had the Aloha Chicken burger. It is full of flavor and cooked to perfection, the burgers are spot on great seasoning and taste. The fries are seasoned fried which are crunchy and delicious. Onion rings are not greasy, they are crisp and crunchy. The crown jewel of this place is the Cali Burrito I can't brag enough about it. It is a carne asada burrito with a homemade sauce they make and put on it adding a lot of flavor. It also come with some of those seasoned fries inside. This burrito is fire . I ordered a cheeseburger and took one bite before realizing the hamburger meat was way undercooked, like they just slapped it on the grill to brown it. Hamburger meat NEEDS to be cooked all the way through otherwise you can get really sick. I would stay away from this place and definitely don't take your kids here. E Coli poisoning from undercooked ground beef is no joke especially for kids. Hopefully the owners correct this and follow FDA guidelines before someone gets really sick! read more

I adore this place. I've gone serval times but always forget to write a review. I sub a beyond patty get it dry and no cheese add pineapple and jalapeños it's the perfect veggie burger. The patty is crispy and all around good (some places that use the beyond pattys are just gross and seem to be raw in the middle, that's not the case here) The onion rings are delicious! And so are the Churros I had low expectations for those but they were great, although I personally did not need the ice cream I'm sure other individuals would love it. You could complain that it's a bit overpriced, but it's the convince of a drive though, In a small mountain town and they have vegetarian (maybe vegan) options which makes it it worth the money for me Plus it's NOT a huge cooperation like McDonald's (that's an extra win in my book) The service is great and the food is even better. Their shutters and fries are so good and we savored each bite. The server was friendly and accommodating. One suggestion is that they need more help working in the kitchen since we waited one hour for the food to arrive. Located where the old McDonalds used to be (across from the movie theater), Blue Jay Burgers is a Drive Thru restaurant but they also have seating both inside and outside. We parked and walked in and ordered at the counter and then ate inside. It was clean inside. What stood out to me the most was how nice, friendly and helpful all of the staff were. We really had excellent service! The food was good. Standard burgers with lettuce, tomato and pickle with the thousand island type sauce. They were good. I didn't care for the french fries because they're the ones with the extra fried breading type around them that comes off on your fingers and taste greasy to me - but it wasn't like the fries were bad - I just don't like this style of french fries. We got sodas but I want to try the milkshakes next time. They have kids meals and if you want a cheeseburger the meal is only $1 less than an adult meal which isn't good value and also the burger was huge so my kids don't really need to eat the same portion size as me. Basically the difference in the kids meal was that you could choose apple juice or orange juice instead of a soda. My kids loved their kids meal modified to be cheeseburgers. My husband got the Cowboy BBQ burger and liked it a lot. The Blue Jay Burger is actually a "burger" with chicken instead of beef so like a chicken sandwich. I'll probably try that next time and the Hot & Spicy Chicken sandwich looks good too. Overall the food was good enough and the service was outstanding! read more

Blue Jay Burgers is finally here! As a mountain local and avid visitor of Hortencias, I was excited to hear about a new Drive Thru Burger place up the mountain. The only drive thru place I can think of in the area is McDonalds in Crestline. I was warmly welcomed when I walked in. I ordered a Strawberry Milkshake and it was done before I was done paying! The girls at the front were on top of things! I was so excited to get my shake that I accidentally forgot my debit card at the counter haha. After a quick shopping trip to Jensens, I decided to come back around to the drive thru and there were a good 10 cars in the line. By the time I got to the order screen, a girl came out with a tablet to start taking orders from the rest of the cars in line. Due to all of the hype and opening rush, it took me about 25 minutes from when I first entered the drive thru with 7 cars ahead of me. As 6pm approached, the line continued to get longer as cars wrapped into the street and down the block. As a tip, be patient as they work out the kinks and logistics. I'd highly recommend walking in to order due. I believe they'll even take your order to where you're sitting, which is a big plus! In addition to the Strawberry Shake, I ordered a Jalapeño Cheese Burger Combo with Fries and a Drink. My review of the food is as follows: - Strawberry Shake - Made fresh to order. It was a bit over mixed/liquidy for my taste. Gotta love thick and creamy shakes where you are almost creating a black-hole trying to suck on the straw. The flavor is great with big chunks of strawberries. - Jalapeño Burger - The MVP of the meal. Deliciously made with jalapeños, sriracha mayo and a juicy angus patty. I saved some leftovers for my wife at home. Despite being gluten-free, she separated the buns like Moses did the Red Sea and she devoured the burger. - Fries - I was pleasantly surprised that the fries were lightly seasoned with spices. They are thick-cut fries but have great texture. My only grip is that they were a bit cold when I received them. - Ranch - Good solid ranch overall. I prefer a thicker consistency, but can't complain. Pairs well with ketchup for a dipping sauce. Overall I am happy with my experience at Blue Jay Burgers. Their presence is a welcome sight for foodies in the area and visitors alike. I will definitely be back and will continue to support local businesses! read more

On the mountain, your choices- especially for food are limited. Most places do fair job but you get used to lowering your standards to get by. Not the case here at Blue Jay Burger. The burgers are amazing, the fries are out of this world and the prices are un-beatable. Blue Jay is hands down one of the best burgers I've ever had and I have been, and plan to continue to, visit them every chance I get. I recommend the jalapeño burger if you want a little kick with your burg, otherwise their regular is just can't miss goodness. The chicken sandwich is also right up there among their best offerings but let me tell you what you definitely want to do. Get some fries. Lots of theM. Burnt burnt burnt. I wouldn't even feed this to my worst enemy. Taste like black burnt charcoal. The burger doesn't even contain the items stated in the recipe. It's supposed to have an angus burger patty and egg and bacon. Instead I got to sausage patties, burnt eggs, 2 slices of bacon, and burnt bread when I specifically asked for lettuce wrap. Whoever the cook is should be fired immediately for serving trash. That much burnt is literally inedible and probably even poisonous. Never coming back. It's an okay place to eat nothing more nothing less. This spot used to be a McDonald's and believe me this is WAY better than that trash lol but it's not THE best burger spot ya get me? If you're up this way and want a quick bite the drive thru got us in and out rather quick so points for that. 1 burger by itself 1 chicken sandwich combo was like $16 and some bucks. Get ready to wait 30 minutes for your food. Ordered a very simple meal, 2 burger combos and 2 kids nugget meals. First their speaker is absolutely garbage can't hear from the drive thru at all. The price of the burgers is up there for a combo at 13.99 and the kids combo at 10.99 (crazy) The quality of the food wasn't great, the burger was soggy and the patty wasn't fresh.
