3 burgers... 48$??? why is mediocre food so f ing expensive?!? Drive thru line takes at least 10 min per order.

My husband and I have kept driving by this spot as it was being built out and wondering when it would officially open. I'm sooo excited to see it's a drive-thru still AND offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lines have been wild since it opened a few days ago, and of course they are experiencing some opening week issues, but all things considered I'm really impressed -- the staff were super friendly and organized, the prices are on par, and the food was tasty (and likely only to get better as they get more comfortable with their peak customer times, etc.) For all those complaining -- keep in mind this is their first week, give them a break and support your local community members bringing small businesses to life in this sleepy mountain town. read more

The short version is, Blue Jay Burgers uses extremely low quality ingredients even compared to similar restaurants down in San Bernardino. I am giving two stars only because it provides a lot of food per order and the drive-through staff was very nice. I got the Blue Jay Special Breakfast Platter. The two hash brown patties were quite greasy and seemed to be the discount restaurant supply brand one buys when one doesn't want to pay a little extra for Ore-Ida. Referring to my photo, the scrambled eggs underneath the hash browns had been cooked in far too much oil and were scorched. Also under there were two of the lowest-grade sausage patties I have ever had the displeasure of eating. They reminded me of school cafeteria food; weird flavor with lots of gristle chunks. The bacon shared that odd flavor similar to McDonald's bacon even though Blue Jay Burgers' is much larger and thicker. The only saving grace were the odd-looking white pancakes which were fairly fluffy and tasty. The little woman had the Triple Pig Breakfast Burger which has two sausage patties, bacon, chorizo, cheese, and a fried egg with roasted garlic aioli. Sounds like a flavor bomb, doesn't it? It wasn't. The chorizo and cheese were completely overwhelmed by everything else, especially the sausage and bacon that I have already described. On one hand, I hate leaving a bad review especially for a restaurant in the San Bernardino Mountains where, even in the best of times, they have such a hard time succeeding. On the other, I must admit I feared Blue Jay Burgers would copy the habits of the other three mountain restaurants to which it has either a direct or indirect relation. They too have a reputation for inconsistent cooking and low-quality ingredients. I had hoped they would up their game for a burger stand with a limited menu. I'm sorry to say that is not the case. $18 gets you a soggy burger and rather tasty onion rings (you get a whopping tiny amount but they are quite good). Ok, sarcasm off. The food was good when they first opened but somewhere along the line the owners stopped caring about quality control. Basically this place is out of the freezer, frozen hamburger Pattie's, frozen French fries, not my favorite. The name says burgers but the menu is more Mexican food than anything? I don't get it, if you want good food, make it fresh! Service was nice and polite, but it took forever, which to me, when using frozen products, shouldn't be an issue. There really isn't anything special about this "used to be a McDonalds" restaurant. To me, the Restaurant business in general is extremely concerning to me, nobody uses fresh foods, nor locally sources items anymore and it's a huge problem. This is a perfect example, find a bakery and locally source your buns, locally source your beef and grind your own meat, take the trimmings and melt the suit into tallow and fry your own French fries! Simple!!!! But you'll never see this anymore and it's really sad to me! At least buy fresh beef and you can buy commercial Tallow that'll kick up the flavor and buy a better French fry, this alone would add a minimum of 2 more stars to this review. And where's the real milk shakes?! If you haven't a palate, then this place is for you, if you have an iron stomach and can absorb Crisco, then this place is for you, if you've never had a home made French fry or burger, then this place is for you. In my opinion, get rid of the Mexican food and concentrate on a better burger experience, or change the name of the restaurant because it's super confusing when you're walking up and only see Mexican food items on the board as you approach the front door! read more

Ordered online 12/22/23 from their menu. 5.99 For a burger French fries 2.50. Cool. Ordered for 4 people . Was very surprised when $50 barely covered it.(49.07) The burgers went up to 8.99 . VEGETARIANS AVOID! In my lifelong experience as a vegetarian, I have never encountered a burger joint that wouldn't make me a grilled cheese, or a "cheeseburger, hold the burger," but this place refused. I Ordered a Classic burger with a Beyond patty. I took a bite out of it and realised there was bacon on it. I looked on the receipt and it said "classic burger add bacon sub Beyond patty". Who would order a vegetarian burger patty and add meat?? I haven't eaten meat for 15 years until now. I'm sure they're very tasty but please get your orders right , especially for vegetarians. We've eaten at Blue Jay Burger 3 times in the past and we've only been disappointed...but we decided to give it one more chance. What a huge mistake. In a word the burgers are...horrible. They apparently use the lowest quality meat available, consisting primarily of some sort of gelatinous filler. The burger patty appears to be boiled or steamed with only the slightest grill mark around the edge. The bun was hard and the veggies lackluster, the whole thing being devoid of flavor. The french fries are just ok and the iced tea tastes packaged, definitely not fresh brewed. The only thing good was the Diet Coke, kinda hard to mess that up. I've been here three times over the last two years, somehow hoping it will be better but always leave disappointed. I really wanted to like this place, but the issue is the food every time. Service is always fast and straightforward. Milkshake is always solid, but burgers and onion rings always seem like they were made yesterday and re-heated. Chicken sandwich and fries are OK, but honestly McDonald's is better. I don't have a problem paying the convenience upcharge and I get that restaurant prices have all gone up, but I expect good food. I remember when this place opened it was new and exciting, the last few times I had a Cowboy Burger it was pretty bad stale bun, onion ring inside the burger was rock hard. Horrible experience. They ran out of side order French fries and onion rings by 6:30pm. They didn't even bother to make sure to have enough onion rings for the Cowboy BBQ burger even though we were told at ordering that the burger would have one for sure. That burger also barely had any bbq sauce and the bacon was almost laughable. The double cheeseburgers were missing pickles and barely had any sauce on them. The drinks were also way too small, especially for the price. As a local I was really hoping this place wouldn't be a disaster and was looking forward to having a drive-thru again. Jalapeño burger was tasty but nothing super, fries are good but they really skimp on quantity, and literally the WORST shake I've ever had, ridiculously thin/runny and only like 2/3rds full. I'm visiting family and stopped here. I just paid ten dollars for four beef and cheese flautas that didn't have any beef and barely any filling at all! An accurate description would be fried tortillas topped with cheese! I honestly didn't see a single piece of meat in even one flauta. There were some refried beans but maybe a total of 1teaspoon for all four flautas. I really feel like I was ripped off and won't give this business my money anymore. The last time I came here I waited a very long time for a chocolate shake only to get a vanilla shake. I brought that back in and they made me another one with hardly any chocolate. First off I want to say that I support small business all the way. Hopefully management/ownership sees this and is able to take some constructive criticism. This one is very simple. You cannot serve burgers with out having fresh meat on them. As soon as I got my order through the drive-thru, I noticed right away that the burger meat patty had been sitting there for a while and was just reheated. The meet was hard, and was extremely overcooked. I'm guessing they cook a certain amount of patties before lunchtime, and they have them just sitting there in the warmer. I promise you, that if you make the customer wait an extra couple minutes to get fresh good tasting food nobody will complain. If that meat was fresh, the burger probably would've been fantastic. The fries were good, and the burger has potential, but you cannot serve old meat that's been sitting around under a heat lamp or warmer, customers will be able to tell every single time if that burger is fresh or not. I hope this helps and you change protocol a bit, make us customers wait a little bit for fresh food, nobody will complain about it I promise you! read more

This place was GREAT when they first opened. Unfortunately they went downhill quickly. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt each of my last three trips. First was a messed up order, and food had gotten somewhat bland. Next order was correct but food was totally bland and definitely not fresh. Finally, third fail, the whole family ordered Cowboy meals; two with French fries, two with onion rings. (All I really wanted was onion rings, since my burger experience with them had gone so far south). They skipped ALL the onion rings. Not only the two orders with the combo, but on all four Cowboy burgers too. (Hey BJB geniuses, without the onion rings, it just became a regular hamburger). $55 for burgers and fries. Got two burger meals one of the cheeseburger and the bbq burger both were excellent! Cheeseburger was exactly what you would want from a fast food burger, nice bun tasty meat. Bbq burger they forgot to put bacon which it was supposed to include but the onion rings were the perfect crunch and delicious in the burger. The fries are thick but crispy and seasoned lightly. So excited to have another fast food restaurant up here. First two weeks of there opening, it's gonna take some time to get things perfect as a new restaurant so give some leeway. read more
