Walking in yesterday, it was such a good-vibe, welcoming place. There was sunshine coming through the large windows and color all around. Our waitress was warm and welcoming as well as on top of our dining needs, even as it got busier. We 4, two of us being vegetarians, each found something delicious to enjoy. I got the BAT Omelette, which was generous with cheese, avocado, bacon, and as a delightful switch up, cherry and grape tomatoes. The presentation was a feast for the eyes, with its dainty and colorful flower petals on top. In fact, all dishes were beautifully presented. I ordered fruit instead of potatoes, which was enough to share. My mom found her bagel and lox delectable and a large enough portion to take 1/2 home. Friends found vegetarian enjoyment in the Goat omelette and the breakfast sammie. They were both well pleased with bellies full. All of us were happy brunchers ! As we dined, the place welcomed a steady stream of guests, both inside and out, which is furry best friend welcoming. So, on Sundays, come early. My partner and I just moved to the area and we saw this cute spot on Happy Cow. Lots of vegan and vegetarian options. We love how theres a lot of paintings from local artists for sale as the decor. Small kitchen so they warned that the wait times are long for food. It was true. There was a lot of empty tables on a Friday night. Lots of parking in a newly paved parking lot. We ordered the veggie burger, strawberry salad, fried pickles, and hummus plate. There was a lot of leftovers as our eyes ate more than our stomachs. First the whipped hummus was divine. I liked all the crunchy veggies and pita bread but the juxtaposition of the mushy, wet dolmas felt strange. The hummus to veggie ratio was off. We had a few veggies left and wished for more hummus. We found it amusing that the fried pickles were more like pickle fries. The exterior tasted of onion rings. Absolutely would order again. Such a fun way to eat pickles! We love the strawberry salad. Goat cheese and strawberries was a match made in heaven. I do think the vinegarette was overpoweringly acidic. I wonder if more sweetness could balance it out. I also thought something bigger than pepitas like candied pecans or walnuts could offer a better crunch to the salad. We did not like the veggie burger at all. The patty should be more firm and structurely together but the mushroom mix was so soggy and mushy and fell apart easily. I wonder if adding a binding agent or flour or something or even deep fry it with a bread crust could make the patty more appealing. We would absolutely come back. We randomly chose this restaurant for lunch and we were so impressed!! The staff and the food were absolutely awesome! We sat on the patio with our dog and they brought her a water bowl. I ordered a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and it did not disappoint. My husband got the pastrami sandwich with fries and it was phenomenal, the ranch is so good! The blt had bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and home made garlic aioli. I opted out of the jalapeño and mustard. All the ingredients were so fresh and the bread was good. People in my party had the blue cheese burger and cheeseburger. They said the burgers were made fresh and tasted good. Perfect cook temperature. The fries were surprisingly good. They had a lot of flavor. They were not soggy, greasy. Or potatoey. Kind of pricey for a sandwich shop, and they do not allow half sandwiches and I wish they did. I've lived on the mountain for about 6 years now. This is where I take my family and friends to enjoy excellence in food. It's truly in a category of it's own. That said....the menu is not a thesaurus. No pizza sliders or deep fried Snickers Wontons here. It's called Culinary Arts for a reason... Chef knows how to Kumata your taste buds. Nothing can come close to this, possibly in CA. Not kidding. There's a couple other good restaurants on the Mountain that ROCK in their own niche. I'm grateful to have a few places to eat that are absolutely a joy. This spot particularly, is the ONLY place to have a life changing Burger, Fries or Fried Pickle Zen-Out. I've only explored the menu this far with the exception of a LOX on toasted Bagel. (I was appreciative that there was a gluten free option) (They have gluten free options all around So here's the rub.... There's NO-WAY you won't love the food. !!!Not Happenin!!! My wife and I are Crestline locals and absolutely love the Spade and Spatula! My wife is a vegetarian and there are limited options on the mountain for her. She loves so many of the vegan/vegetarian options and orders something different every time! I go with the blue cheese burger. Tried it for the first time and love it so much that I haven't tried anything else! The bacon is cooked to perfection and the balsamic glaze just makes for a perfect touch. Sad to write this review because our server was very kind. We are regulars in Arrowhead and usually eat at our regular spots, the village, Stone Creek Bistro, etc. but decided to branch out and try somewhere new. Place is cute inside,decor is a little random, but nice bar area! We were seated pretty quickly and ordered within a few minutes. It took 50 minutes to get our appetizer, which ended up looking and tasting like something i could quickly whip up at home for half the cost. When we finally got our meals, over an hour after ordering, it was wrong... but we said not to worry about it and that we weren't picky. The beef dip was okay, dry.. but the au jus was tasty! I recognize that it was crowded and today was new year's day... but it was a pretty tough experience overall. We are generally happy with just about any food you put in front of us, so if you are particular, I would highly recommend choosing a different spot. read more
