My first time at the Cedar Glen Malt Shop and I LOVED IT!!! It's a 50's styled diner with the music, decor, fantastic food, and great smiles! When it comes to burgers, this place came to play hard ball! They serve up 1/3 lb Angus beef that is absolutely tasty! I had the "Hudson Hornet" - a mushroom & Swiss burger with all the fix'ns. Dripping with deliciousness! The grilled onions really complete the burger (comes with). All of their burgers look great! My son had the Chevy Impala - a bacon cheeseburger with their awesome onion rings and bbq sauce. A MUST have at the Cedar Glen Malt Shop is their ice cream! They use THRIFTY's Ice cream!! Whether you go for their shakes, malts, reg ice cream or go big and get their Banana Royale (I did) or the banana split, you won't be disappointed or hungry! Another note worth mentioning, they offer a gracious Military discount. Just ask. Parking can be difficult to find especially right when they open. We had a mini vacation in Lake Arrowhead, and this business was one that I was looking forward to. Why? A tasty thick malt sounded amazing, especially if the business is kind of known for it with many options. I had not had a malt in so long. I kept wondering when we could find a window to squeeze this in. We finally walked a mile over from where we stayed (a lot of this was uphill so that was rough for me) and we plopped down, ready for our malts. I ordered a rocky road malt and Steven ordered a chocolate chip malt. The server was surprised at the easy order she received as we did not order any food or anything. Yet, it still took some time. Finally the malts arrived, but unfortunately we were left so disappointed. Malts are supposed to be thicker than shakes, but these drinks were pretty much just melted ice cream. So, we are not sure if the orders were placed as shakes and still much more melted than other shake shops, or what happened. I felt like I was drinking melted ice cream with a spoon. Once I got through my glass, I didn't bother trying to pour more from my metal cup into the regular cup. I just started scooping from the extra stainless steel cup, hoping to save some thicker portions in there. There were a few, but not a lot. Since I was expecting a thick malt or something thicker than liquid ice cream, I devoured it pretty fast and now had a tummy ache. We tried it, but it didn't work out for us. read more

A true Arrowhead gem (or nearby, we were staying in Running Springs). Service was quick and friendly...but the highlight was the food! Their homemade fries and perfectly battered onion rings were hot, fresh and tasty! The burgers were juicy and flavorful, but a tad on the greasy side - which was our only "negative". However, the real star of the show was their banana split! Our son had never had one before and this was the perfect banana split to set the bar! Not only was the presentation awesome, but the ice cream, banana and toppings all complimented each other perfectly (except I would say no sprinkles next time, not a fan of sprinkles). Stumbled upon this diner on Yelp and made sure to stop in when we were in town last weekend. Definitely felt like I stepped back in time when entering - greeted by friendly faces and the food & shakes are delicious!!! Hubby & I shared the Impala burger and this was sooo good - it had bacon, cheddar cheese, onion rings & BBQ sauce. This burger is perfection - drooling now just thinking about. This place was so cool! It's an oldies style diner that was just super cute! My family came twice during our stay in Lake Arrowhead. Once we came solely for dessert, and they did not disappoint!!! Prices are in line with similar establishments in the area, and the shop's hours are better (since most of their nearby competitors close several hours earlier). Although I haven't had a full meal there in years, they primarily serve a variety of burgers (cleverly named in homage to their 50s automotive theme) along with the usual sides complementing such eating fair. Several burger orders passed by my table while waiting for my sundae, and I must confess that I came very close to "chasing" my dessert with a burger after seeing how juicy and generously topped they were! Be aware, however, that the physical building is small, so you may need to wait for seating or elect to belly-up to the stools along the counter when near capacity. Seating a large party is, undoubtedly, extremely challenging. Similarly, parking is also problematic, with only a handful of small, narrow spaces in front (along Hook Creek Road). Suffice it to say, for most burger, shake, or sundae lovers this inconvenience does not come close to outweighing the reward of sinking your teeth into heaven-on-a-bun or voiding your Weight Watchers membership by indulging in a high-calorie frozen dessert of choice; for the few others who are unwilling to wait, take-out is an equally rewarding option. read more

Small but mighty! Cedar Glen's Malt Shop is located right off the side of the road, you might miss it if you aren't looking for it. Parking is tight, you have to pull in to one of maybe 7 spaces located right out front, and the road can get busy. The diner is retro themed with Elvis and Marilyn Monroe greeting you on your way to the bathroom. There's about 6 booths in total, a few tables near the door and several seats at a bar - all in all very small! We enjoyed a few roadside burgers on our way into town, there was only one cashier who was also the waitress and busser - she was very polite and efficient. We enjoyed our lunch, glad we stopped in for the experience, not sure it's a place we'd return to if back in town - but we found it worth the stop in, there's not many diners like this now days, so it's always nice to feel nostalgic. read more

This is a cute shop in the middle of the mountains. It has a 1950s looks to it and I liked how it was decorated. Definitely come for the ice cream, not the food. I got a tuna melt and it was probably one of the worst tuna melts I've ever had. I couldn't even finish it due to it being so dry it was sticking to my mouth. My friend got the chili cheese dog and he said it wasn't that great either. The French fries were also the worst fries I've had as they tasted dry, possibly over cooked and had no flavor to them. Meh. It's got a cool 50s vibe and sort of reminds me of Peggy Sue's in Yermo on the way to Vegas except much smaller; it has maybe 8 or 9 booths and counter space. Chili cheese fries were delicious although the presentation was horrible; it looked like pig slop on a plate. My parents loved their burgers. My patty melt toast was nice and toasty - I hate when the bread gets soggy. However only one half had meat, the other half barely had a bite of meat - just bread and cheese. No grilled onions like a normal patty melt. Burger was beyond well done and dry. Also, they use sourdough instead of rye. A classic old school style place it was part grill part ice cream shop. It carried classic fifties vibes with the decor and options from burgers and fries paired with a malt or banana split was perfect. The place was small and popping but with a group of 8 we were able to sit quick and order up. The malts were served in glass cups with the stainless mixer cups on the side with the extra ice cream. We did share an order of French fries and they were some of the best fries ever, hand cut, double fried with the perfect texture! Stopped by the Malt Shop on the way home from Lake Arrowhead. Most places up in the mountains are dog friend, but this place was not. Their chili was incredible, so much so that I would recommend getting a bowl and not a cup. Their burgers are decent as well and service was very quick and friendly.
