I had absolutely no idea this town existed until we took the back roads from Big Bear Lake back to Los Angeles a few weeks ago. When we entered the small town of Blue Jay I was pretty excited since I'm a life long Toronto Blue Jays fan and a lover of small blue birds in general. Almost as soon as you enter the town you also drive by Blue Jay Burger and that was enough for us to pull the car into the drive through and take a gander at the menu. This place looks like a pretty typical fast food establishment with burgers, chicken sandwiches, fries, and the beverages to help wash them all down. Now, I don't remember the name of the sandwich I ordered but it doesn't seem to be on the restaurants website so I'll just throw out a a description. I didn't order a burger, I ordered a sort of stank sandwich between a burger patty and the sandwich itself was pretty solid. The sandwich had lettuce and tomato on it and did the job. The french fries were also solid, being lightly crispy and having solid flavour. The funniest thing I ate at this place was the chicken nuggets which were ALMOST indentical to a McDonald's McNugget from the shape to the flavour, but hey, no complaints from this guy. Overall, I'm sure Blue Jay Buger is a great place to have if you live in a town like Blue Jay. This fast food shop offers some local community flavour instead of the copy and paste chains most places have and that's certainly not a bad thing. Although this wasn't the best of anything I've ever had, it was a solid spot for a quick lunch before we were back on the road. Is it worth stopping by? I think so, it's always nice to grab some food off the beat and path and experience some small town flavour.

Walking in yesterday, it was such a good-vibe, welcoming place. There was sunshine coming through the large windows and color all around. Our waitress was warm and welcoming as well as on top of our dining needs, even as it got busier. We 4, two of us being vegetarians, each found something delicious to enjoy. I got the BAT Omelette, which was generous with cheese, avocado, bacon, and as a delightful switch up, cherry and grape tomatoes. The presentation was a feast for the eyes, with its dainty and colorful flower petals on top. In fact, all dishes were beautifully presented. I ordered fruit instead of potatoes, which was enough to share. My mom found her bagel and lox delectable and a large enough portion to take 1/2 home. Friends found vegetarian enjoyment in the Goat omelette and the breakfast sammie. They were both well pleased with bellies full. All of us were happy brunchers ! As we dined, the place welcomed a steady stream of guests, both inside and out, which is furry best friend welcoming. So, on Sundays, come early. Great food, vibe, service....a perfect opportunity to break bread together when local or up the hill for a visit.

We love how theres a lot of paintings from local artists for sale as the decor. Small kitchen so they warned that the wait times are long for food. It was true. There was a lot of empty tables on a Friday night. Lots of parking in a newly paved parking lot. We ordered the veggie burger, strawberry salad, fried pickles, and hummus plate. There was a lot of leftovers as our eyes ate more than our stomachs. First the whipped hummus was divine. I liked all the crunchy veggies and pita bread but the juxtaposition of the mushy, wet dolmas felt strange. The hummus to veggie ratio was off. We had a few veggies left and wished for more hummus. We found it amusing that the fried pickles were more like pickle fries. The exterior tasted of onion rings. Absolutely would order again. Such a fun way to eat pickles! We love the strawberry salad. Goat cheese and strawberries was a match made in heaven. I do think the vinegarette was overpoweringly acidic. I wonder if more sweetness could balance it out. I also thought something bigger than pepitas like candied pecans or walnuts could offer a better crunch to the salad. We did not like the veggie burger at all. The patty should be more firm and structurely together but the mushroom mix was so soggy and mushy and fell apart easily. I wonder if adding a binding agent or flour or something or even deep fry it with a bread crust could make the patty more appealing. We would absolutely come back. Maybe not for the mushroom Patty.

This was hands down one of the best burgers and malts I've ever had. The burger was fresh, juicy, perfectly seasoned, and cooked just right. Every bite tasted like it was made with care instead of rushed out of the kitchen. Then came the malt, thick, creamy, and packed with flavor. It was the perfect classic pairing with an already incredible burger. One of the coolest touches is how they name many of their burgers after classic cars. It's a fun, nostalgic theme that fits the old-school malt shop atmosphere and gives the menu a personality you don't see very often. Great food, friendly service, and a unique experience make this place well worth the drive. I'll definitely be coming back to work my way through the rest of those "car" burgers. Highly recommended!

The kids meal was adorable and came in a cardboard 50 style car. If you're gonna order the macaroni and cheese, just be aware that it takes a little longer to cook compared to everything else, but it comes out hot. However, the noodles are slightly overcooked. The fish and chips are made with cod and I highly recommend. Very crispy and hot. You get three fairly generous pieces per order. The thing that really makes this place shine are there milkshakes and malts. We offered to upgrade the kids beverage to a peanut butter chocolate milkshake for a very affordable price and served as dessert for the whole table. This place is no-frills, but very family friendly. There were lots of families there. For napkins, they had a giant roll of paper towels on every table. The bathrooms were fairly clean.

California Hot Dog: 3/5 It was okay. Strawberry Lemonade & Regular Lemonade: 10/10 AMAZING! Two of us had the strawberry lemonade and two had the regular lemonade, and we absolutely loved them. Our waiter could not have been nicer. I wish I could remember his name. He was so kind and eager to make our visit a good one. We started with the deep fried mushrooms which were good, but a little too heavily battered for my taste. They came with 2 dipping sauces, a spicy aoli style and an Asian chili sauce (sweet). I had the grilled salmon with lemon caper sauce. It came with your choice of 2 sides. I got the fully loaded baked potato and steamed vegetables. My meal was delicious and a large serving that I could not finish. Good value at $24. My husband got the ribeye with herb roasted potatoes and a salad. The salad was large and fresh with plenty of carrots and tomatoes. The herb roasted potatoes were delicious, but I would definitely get the fully loaded baked potato again. My husband said his ribeye was delicious and cooked exactly as he asked (medium). I had a martini which was a generous pour and the bartender even hand-stuffed some olives with blue cheese for me which was really kind as the bar was quite busy. The atmosphere was great - filled with people enjoying themselves dining, talking, and laughing. Restrooms were spacious and clean. My only complaint was that the seats were hard wood.
