I have been going to Blue Marsh Italian around two times a month for the past three years or so. My family dines in sometimes, but mostly gets takeout. The quality has been slowly declining; I should have stopped going there some time ago, so this is partly my fault. Last night, I ordered a small plain cheese pizza and the "Tour of Italy." The Tour made me wish I had stayed home and eaten my passport. This particular tarantella was a takeout order and I was provided a suitable pizza and a bucket of slop. The $22 Tour consists of generous portions of alfredo, chicken parmigiana and lasagna. These three items were dumped into the same takeout container, piled around and on top of each other. It looked like my fettucine alfredo was bleeding. And this was not a result of driving it home. I called to tell them of my dissatisfaction and a very polite woman handed the call off to a manager or an owner. I have no idea, he hesitated to identify himself. I was told I could bring the items back and they would cook me a new meal. Nope, I'm not going to work harder than the restaurant. The mystery man on the phone admitted that slopping everything into one container was not the way things should be done. It felt like he was anticipating this call. I asked why they would not put three different dishes into three different containers, or at least put the crime scene of alfredo into one separate dish. I was told that they don't do it that way, but that they should do it that way (in the same sentence from this man). After the call, I attempted to eat it and found the chicken parm was burnt. Everything else laden in salt to cover up poor cooking technique and/or the apparent bafflement of how to properly spice a dish. This place is basically a red sauce joint, it's not southern Italian cuisine and it isn't rocket science. They shouldn't be serving chicken parm that is worse than what you can get at your local 24 hour diner. My kid liked the pizza though, so that was a win at least, and their pizza is usually good all around. I worry a bit because the owners/managers/phantoms at this restaurant are so clueless that on their own website, they have this testimonial quote: "Had a wonderful time celebrating my son's 50th Birthday. The food and service was excellent?" Yep, that is indeed a quoted question mark at the end of that sentence so I don't know if that is supposed to be in the declarative or the interrogative. If it's the interrogative, that's a hilarious testimonial. If these people don't care enough to read or spellcheck one of three testimonials on there website, it speaks of their character, service, and cooking. I will never go back. The gall of the mystery man was disturbing. If they don't want business from locals down the road, they're going to have to rely on the business of unknowing suckers coming to Christmas Village in the month of December or a handful of boaters in the summer months. Perhaps that has/will keep them afloat. The location of this restaurant teeters on rural. People aren't coming from miles around on a regular basis to go to an Italian restaurant in Bern Township. Many people who live 15 miles away from Bern Township don't know that a place called Bern Township exists. It's amateur hour at this restaurant. A complete pagliaccio show. read more

We came up to see the lights at Koziar and where looking for a place to eat. We decided to give this place a try. The food was fantastic. I had the Bolognese, my wife had the lobster ravioli. The other couple had a monster burger and the New Yorker. Our server was very nice young lady. She was very helpful and informative. She recommended several of the dishes we tried. We will definitely stop in again the next time we are in the area. read more

Stopped in for 2 slices of pizza to go and boy was i disappointed. The dough was very chewy and dough had a hard time chewing it and ended up throw the other slice away. I usually go to Piero's which has excellent pizza but they were closed for 2 days. Will definitely not go back for pizza. The owner, Gino, is such a weird dude, man. He's got business sense, for sure. But does he have common sense? That's up for debate. On one hand, he is the owner and operator of two moderately successful and lucrative restaurants - Gino's Café in Shillington and this one. On the other hand, he rented out his building on Lancaster Pike (formerly Gino's Grille) to some seriously shady dudes. That location is now the epicenter of GANG VIOLENCE. Like, come on man, what were you thinking? Before I go off on too much of a tangent, Blue Marsh Italian Restaurant is basically an extension of Gino's Café. Both are great lunch destinations, but while the Café serves up breakfast, Blue Marsh ditches breakfast altogether and offers a wide variety of specialty dinners. Also everything is kinda scaled up here. The hoagies, pizza, and (perhaps most pronounced) the salads are taken to the next level. The quality, construction, and overall ingredients just seem better. The Antipasto Salad is flat out one of the best salads I've ever had. I was kind of weary ordering it. There was a picture of the salad with meats and cheeses arranged in a super artistic manner. So not only packed with robust toppings and vibrant leafy greens, but aesthetically pleasing as well. I was thinking, "There's no way it's gonna show up at my door looking like that." Well, it kinda did. Maybe not as meticulously assembled as the picture, but you could tell a lot of care went into it. When it came to the Italian sub, no major issues other than the lettuce being a bit past its prime. Def a little off color and wilted. Ya gotta have fresh, crisp lettuce. Lettuce itself doesn't have a lot of flavor, but that crunch you get when paired with the soft meats, cheese, and roll is the perfect texture contrast. Kind of like that satisfying snap you get when biting into the ideal hot dog. My order did get messed up in a way. Wanted the Blue Marsh Wrap Wrap (roast beef, provolone, lettuce, tomato, and horseradish mayo). They read the ticket wrong and instead gave me the Blue Marsh Special Pizza. Couldn't really complain, considering the pizza was listed at $11 and I was only charged the wrap price of $8.25. Win I guess? The wrap sounded really good, though. I wanted the wrap because I already had my sights on another pizza - the Quattro Gusti (sauce, fresh mozzarella, black olives, ham, fresh mushrooms, artichokes). I love the taste of artichokes but I'm not sure why I keep ordering them as toppings. They always come out as super chewy and inedible shavings. Husks, if you will. I end up chewing them for awhile then having to spit them out. This has happened the last kajillion times from various restaurants. When will I learn my lesson? Maybe they have to be the hearts and I'm just getting the throwaway bad parts? I don't even know anymore. Will I be back? Maybe. It's out of the way, and I normally don't get to that side of town these days. And it's far enough that I feel a little bad for the delivery drivers to make the trek. I suppose if you live closer, it'd be worth checking out. It's only two miles from the northern tip of Blue Marsh Lake, so I suppose if you're out with the fam enjoying poo lake on a sultry summer afternoon, Blue Marsh Italian Restaurant would be an enjoyable lunch stop. read more

Excellent selection of flavorful authentic recipes. The portions are large enough to fill you up then some. I had one of the most delicious paninis I've ever had. Everyone in our party enjoyed their selection. The service was prompt, courteous and efficient. We had the pleasure of speaking directly with the owner and she was pleasant and shared that they only have attained this location a few month ago. They are still battling past bad reviews from the previous management. I'd suggest giving this place a chance. They are excellent and the place was quite clean and comfortable. I look forward to returning for another panini in the not too distant future. read more

I love their food ive only been a handful of times, today i got delivery and it was the shrimp and chicken alfredo, as im halfway through i see a decently long dark hair in the food which obviously made me disgusted and my hair is not the same lenghth as the hair in the food. We pulled off to check out this place, the dining room was close due to COVID19 which we understood, we walked in and stepped to the side to discuss if we were just going to grab a slice that was ready, or order something else. The main guy running the place didn't have a mask on at all, the ladies working the counter had them on but most weren't covering both nose and mouth and one was just using it as a chin guard... As soon as we stepped aside the one lady asked for our order number, we told her we didn't order ahead and were figuring out what we wanted, the other lady yelled over "are you ready to order?" I looked up and said no, and went back to our discussion... she barked more loudly "ARE YOU READY TO ORDER", and after I snapped back "No, thats why were trying to talk" she got pissy and all of them started walking away from the counter. We told them we wanted 2 scicilian and 1 regular slice, the unmasked (but friendly) guy put our order in the oven, after some side eyes and discussion over if we paid or not, they took our payment. We went to the car and decided to eat before we got on the road, and to our surprise the pizza was somehow still cold! The only reason for the second star is because the pizza's taste was great, unfortunately, I'll never know if anything else is, we won't go back the next time we are in the area. read more

Tonight, I went and ordered me a hero sub with capicolla it was good, not no $17.55, good. I think that was highway robbery. The only difference it was from an Italian was no capicolla,provolone,and no oil and vinegar. It had American cheese and mayo. The Italian was $10.00, which is what the menu says. read more

I went to Blue Marsh for a quiet lunch and read my New Yorker. Had my Diet Coke and ordered a salad and cheesteak. Two Trumper old boys come in and ask the bartender if they're having trouble getting help and she repeats the BS about people being paid too much to stay home, which of course the Trumpers picked up on. I saw red for a few seconds, thought better of entering the conversation, and instead immediately called for my check even though I was just a few bites into my salad. The Trumpers sneered that I probably liked Biden, which I readily affirmed. The bartender did offer my cheesteak to go ... but did nothing when the Trumpers told me to leave or that they would beat me up. Blue Marsh is the closest restaurant to my home. I've been extremely excited to try this restaurant for the last several months. It takes me 30 mins to get here but I thought it was well worth the trip based on how great it always smells. My wife and I took our sister in law along. It was a great disappointment. We spoke to the staff inside and advised we were going to sit outside. We sat at a table with garbage and had to asked them to clean it up and then had to request a menu and clean silverware. It took 30 mins until they took our drink order which consisted of 3 waters. When she brought them back we were obviously ready to order but she told us she wasn't ready to take it because she has to make her rounds of other tables first. I watched other people come in after we did and get service from other waitresses and receive food before we could even get a menu. The table next to us spoke about the restaurant the entire time and said how it was such a mess and how bad the service was. This being said and even as disgusted as I was i still thought the food smelled amazing and wanted to wait to try their food. It was nearing an hour and we still didn't get to place an order so we walked out. As I said before it was quite upsetting that my experience was being bad since I recently moved and was hoping to find a new favorite restaurant near home. I almost feel bad for the owner unless he is already aware of this issue. I'd love to give it another chance but it unfortunately won't be anytime soon. read more

Have eaten there for years and usually very good. But last time, platters were served on ICE COLD plates and the spaghetti was cold and the meat only warm. Why would a meal be served on plates that are absolutely cold? Not good practice for a good restaurant. Food is tasty but it is the little things that make a good restaurant. My wife and I were standing at the "order out section" of the restaurant and were quickly looking through the menu. The cashier very kindly asked us if we needed help and I asked a question about an item. A few minutes later we made our decision to order. They tell us that the kitchen had closed three mins prior. Mind you, they knew we were ordering, and were standing there waiting. We saw pizza still on a heater and asked if we could have that. They declined. This particular night was a swing dance gathering with a door fee to enter the other part of the restaurant. We found out they obligingly gave pizza to these customers the mins following our interaction. (We knew some of the dancers).The hours of this particular night were irregular considering the swing dance gathering. There was no way to know that the kitchen would close when it did. We have been coming to this restaurant for many years, through several owners. Since the current owner took over,the quality of the food and service has been declining. We kept returning, hoping that we would not be disappointed, but every time, we were wrong. How hard is it to expect a sandwich to have no onions, or no cheese? If someone agrees that our order was wrong, then the excuses start. If the kitchen can't speak English, that should not be our problem. We are done. Hopefully they will "mistake "themselves out of business, and the next people will be a little more concerned about consistently pleasing their customers than going to Italy, driving good patrons elsewhere. read more

We do family dinner on a Tues night which we don't require anyone to show up for so sometimes we have a little as 4 people or as many as 10. Lately we have had only 5 of our family able to make it so we didn't think to make a reservation. We popped in her with 7 people and our waitress didn't even blink an eye sat us got all of our orders correct!! The food was delicious!!! Can't complain one bit about anything. I think it has been a big transition with the owners split. I still love the food, the atmosphere and I have never had poor service. In December The Bern Twp Lions club arrived w 30 some people and the previous part owners had not listed us in the other area. The entire staff jumped in and put tables together and accommodated all of us with most getting separate checks. I think there might have been a couple of people who waited longer but the general opinion was they did a great job with no notice. The food is good, hopefully the staff situation will get smoother. I understand they are now going to under go some remodeling but I bet they will still try to accommodate all customers. read more

The place has new owners and they would not honor the voucher, this after 2 pizzas and some beers (4 between 2 people ). The pies were good, service slow and cooking slow. They would not honor the YELP coupon!! Sad- it was for $10 and if they had we might go back. They could have handled this situation FAR better. Don't stop to eat here if you're in the area to visit Koziar's Christmas Village. Disorganized is the best way I can describe this place and it's evident from the moment you walk in. There are two rooms without a clear indication of which way you should go and there is no hostess to take your name. We were seated after about 10 minutes and once seated, we were completely ignored. We never met our waitress because she never came. Instead, a young girl who wasn't our waitress reluctantly ended up taking our order after we flagged her down because our waitress was nowhere to be found. She was friendly, but seemed very overwhelmed and not very knowledgeable. There were 6 of us total (4 adults and 2 kids). It took one hour for our food to come out. Eventually we got so frustrated that we told our waitress to just forget about our order because we were going to leave and just pay for the drinks. The food appeared just as we were getting ready to leave. We ordered two chicken cheese steaks, a chicken spinach wrap, a meatball sub, mac and cheese and kids lasagna. The food was decent but on the salty side. We also didn't notice any other orders coming out of the kitchen. All the waitresses were standing around and the ones who were actually serving were serving drinks. This restaurant, despite having somewhat decent food, has some issues it needs to iron out.
