One of the few legit place where you get a good massage without any funny business or tip gouging. As an added benefit, they have a steam sauna room you can use that does miracles for the tired body. Rooms itself are very clean and most of the masseuse speak limited English; but they do speak enough to understand if you want them for a hard or medium massage. Rates are reasonable at $45 an hour but if you find the right masseuse go for their 90 minute massage instead. One minor critique (and it's probably because of space issue) is their shower stall shares the same space as their washer/dryer and mop bucket. This was my favorite neighborhood downtown spot until I was told I could receive a hot stone massage no charge (offered during the massage, spontaneous, wasn't requested initially but recommended by her) but was pressured to tip more at the end. Literally the woman wouldn't give me change at the end when I was going to tip. Solid massages but disappointing service when it comes to tipping. It was a turn off for me, especially after receiving a relaxing & great hot stone rub down. They're a great business but just cautioning y'all to be prepared about their tip negotiating. Racist, Rushed, and Dirty place to Spa. While having a conversation with the receptionist she mentioned to me she hates West Oakland because Black people live there. This was the most racist thing you could say to your customer regardless of their race. I was supposed to get 20 mins steam sauna but within 5 minutes they turned off the steam and I had to leave. Then I tried to tip the masseuse $15 even if her service was not great, she took the extra $10 I had on my other hand. I was literally robbed on a day light. So I have been looking for a new and good place to try and fell upon this spa through yelp! I must say from the outside I thought it would be small, but once you walk in it is long throughout and very spacious. Kind of underground-ish. I really like the feel of it. The foot massage is $35 and body is $45. The price difference was not much so I've decided to go with the body. They sent me to a room and it was nice and dimly lighted. Oh my she turned the heater on and it was so warm. I absolutely loved it. They also let you charge your phone as you get a massage. Very accommodating!! Let's just say long story short the massage I received from Tina was absolutely amazing. I am very pleased. She did some bone massaging on my back and it felt so good. Lol! Today I booked a 2 hour body massage and facial online- when I came to the spa there was no record that I had made the booking. They offered for me to wait in the sauna while the masseuse came from home. This is all fine with me- I was in no rush. I was excited until about 20 minutes into the massage and I realize that the masseuse is not slowly warming up my body with oil to massage me- rather that is the massage. A light oil petting. Also, at one point I was seriously questioning her knowledge of anatomy. I was scared that I was going to leave in more pain than when I came in. At one point, I counted 16 times that she lightly grasped the back of my triceps mindlessly. This drove me insane. What was I supposed to say?And then, she did not even touch the same spot on the other side. I debated running out of the spa between the time the facial came about. I was already stressing that the receptionist told me when I paid before the massage that I had to tip 10-20 per hour. I do not want to tip something that felt worse than a partner with no training rubbing my back. What I will say though, is that I am glad I stayed for the facial. The facial was relaxing and it must be what this person normally does for a living because they felt competent in their movements (unlike how the massage felt). I left the tip that they asked for, but feel like it is important to say that staff should be trained better in massage / consistency of what they touch on a person. My first and last time here. The massage was ok. Parking was easy. Prices have increased to $50 but their website still reflects $45 for a 60 min massage. Waited in the treatment room for 15 mins before someone came in to start the massage. Kept hearing a phone buzzing but couldn't tell if it was my phone or the massage therapist's. I've often felt only one hand working or paused on on me. Suspicious that she was texting with her other hand. When it was over, I see her leaving the room with her phone in her back pocket with the screen lit. Mid massage texting suspicions confirmed. Also, I've received no texts on my phone during the massage. The buzzing was all hers. In addition to coming in 15 mins late, she also left 10 mins early. I was short changed by 10 mins. When I arrived they seemed confused and unsure who had said they could take a client, then said "it's OK just wait for the masseuse to get here." I paid, then waited in a very unprofessional, janky room. The masseuse eventually arrived and took a while to set up, then played pop music from her cell phone, which competed with the piped-in spa music. The massage was fine, although overly painful a few times. During the treatment there were many phone calls and doorbell rings, overall a non-relaxing atmosphere. At one point I set my purse down on a "table" which toppled over because it was not a table but a precarious board set on something. But the kicker was when I was leaving. I wanted to leave a modest tip, $10 on a $60 treatment, because I was in pain part of the time and the service was 10 minutes shorter than advertised. But the masseuse argued with me, asking for a $20 tip (33%), and the front desk person doubled down on this. I've visited the place twice, and both times the massage itself was really good, and could tell my masseuse was taking her job quite seriously. The only complaint was at first time which I had a 90-minute massage for $80 and tipped her $20 (25%), she asked for more and explained to me that it's $10 tip for each half hour. Went to this place a couple times. Last night went around 8:30 pm for couples massage. Massage was perfect as always with the perfect amount of pressure and the massage therapist is able to adjust accordingly the pressure points and location where you are sore. I love this place because the rooms are private and you don't hear your neighbor nor others chitchatting. Rooms are clean and everytime after the massage, they give you water. My boyfriend and I went here randomly and did a couples massage. They were extremely accomadating considering it was very last minute and I wanted him to get his first massage at a place that would be memorable in a positive way. It was a fun experience and everyone was so nice. The massage room got a little chilly and they turned on the heater. They were super attentive and it very relaxing. I personally wished my massage would have been a little harder but my boyfriend said everything was perfect. The staff was very professional and everything was clean and relaxing. I'm really surprised by the 5 star reviews. My friend and I decided to try out Blue Moon Spa after dim sum. No one answered when we called and the door was locked when we walked up. Finally, a lady opened the door and told us what they offered. She asked us to pay in advance (in cash) and then proceeded to tell us that our therapists will be coming shortly. It was only at that point that I realized no one was on site and she had to tell people to come from home. We weren't in a huge hurry so I didn't push the issue too much. We were taken to a "room" downstairs and waited for our therapists on the massage tables. The massages themselves were of pretty low quality. First time at blue moon spa with Anita. I have been to many massage places as I have deep knots and chronic pain throughout my body. This place is definitely exceptional when it comes to massages. Their massages are much different than the typical. Anita was very accurate in finding knots and tender areas. She knew exactly how much pressure to apply to areas around the body. She checked in to make sure the massage was going well throughout. I definitely recommend this place. The lady at the counter had a cold at the time wore a face mask and apologized, stating she was sick, which was very considerate. She was extremely courteous, friendly, and professional. My first visit here was okay. I requested a deep tissue massage and left sore. My second visit I asked for lighter pressure. Though the massage was nice, it was not relaxing at all. Too many interruptions. I kept hearing loud footsteps and doorbell. The masseuse kept leaving the room during my massage. Another employee came in to talk her.
