Able to seat a party of 12 at last minute; high quality, tasty innovative pizzas, super salads

We got into Vail around 9pm and wanted food. Walked across the way from Blue Moose because we don't really care for pizza and went into the Tavern place. It was LOUD and the menu options were terrible and like $30 for nachos or something insane. I couldn't hear the person next to me talking it was so loud, and after traveling 2 hours by plane and another 3 by bus, I was not in the mood. So we left and went to Blue Moose. Vail man. Anyways, back to this review. Blue Moose was pretty empty and very quiet. We ordered a caesar salad a pizza (half bbq chicken style, half with a bunch of meats), and a meatball calzone. -Pizza: 3.5 stars. Good enough. We were starving. Came out quick. Slightly undercooked and very doughy. I like doughy. My fiancé does not like doughy. Cheese wasn't fully cooked in. I still liked it. Meaty half was great. -Caesar: 4 stars. Drenched in dressing. I loved it. My fiancé thought it was too much dressing. Dressing fanatics, order this. -Meatball Calzone: Some liked it, I thought it was okay and a bit doughy as well. Not much flavor. 3 stars. -Service: Good, even though he spilled ranch on my fiancés nice jacket. But it was on accident and he did try to clean it. So I won't dock him on that. -Price: For Vail, this is inexpensive food. I'll take it. read more

Some worker there with a unique mustache (normal in the middle, thin pointy horizontal on the ends) interrupted my conversation with my wife, proceeded to get into a loud argument with me, and yelled at me from across the restaurant. I don't think I've ever met a more rude and invasive person. The argument was over a table for seven. Six of the people were there, and we weren't quite sure if the last person was going to show. He wouldn't seat us. Well, how about we just get a table for 6 and if the person shows, he can pull up a chair? No that's not allowed. The restaurant only had a few tables full at the time. When you're skiing, it's difficult to contact someone - sometimes they don't hear or feel the phone, sometimes they're skiing for an hour before they check their phone. So our party was forced to wait. If that's their policy, fine, we were willing to let it slide. But privately to my wife, I mentioned that the policy was ridiculous. The mustache worker overheard me and forced his way into our conversation, yelling 'It's not ridiculous'. We then proceeded to get into an argument where he was determined to get in the final word, ending with him yelling at me from across the restaurant after I walked away. I'm not saying that they need to change their policy, even though I don't agree with it. Sometimes you need to stick to rules, especially when you're a worker just doing your job. But eavesdropping on our conversation, interrupting us, proceeding to get into a loud argument, and then yelling at me from across the restaurant is the opposite of what someone in the service industry should be doing. My advice to this guy - do something else with your life, pizza service is not for you. The pizza is meh. Very doughy and was served to us lukewarm. Edit - looks like lots of people are complaining about this one person. I thought it might have just been me, but l guess he's a jerk to a lot of people. read more

The service we received from Parker (from Sheboygan) was really good. He was prompt and patient. Pizza options were standard. Beer selection bottles and on tap were good as was the wine and cocktails. Place was not clean when we arrived, and that just may be an indicator of the earlier diners, but it was unappetizing. And in general the vibe was pretty generic. read more

I came here on a weekend morning with my coworker for a wedding and he scoped out this pizza place near our hotel. I can't say enough good things about the pizza at this place - I'll end on a good note. However, the service - while it was mostly empty (we went kind of early for lunch), it was a little slow, and I noticed that a group of people who were seated after us was served first. There seemed to be a bit of confusion as to who was supposed to serve us. But otherwise, it was fine afterward. Luckily, the pizza made up for whatever misgivings I had about the service. I ordered the build your own slice and asked for specific ingredients. It came hot, large slices, coated with grease (which makes for an amazing pizza) and had exactly what I ordered on it. It's a shame I don't live in Colorado otherwise I'd definitely try to make it back here. If I ever find myself in Vail again, I'll be stopping in for more of that dough-y, meaty, greasy goodness. read more

This damn pizza is absolutely amazing!!! The beers are a little pricey but the food is very reasonable!! They have so many delicious options and you can get just slices if you'd like to try a few pizzas. Most restaurants in this area were wayyyyy over priced so I was surprised when I saw the menu here but then I was blown away when I tried it! This place was amazing and our waiter was so kind. I was dying of hungry after spending the afternoon on the mountain and our food took a little time. Nothing too crazy but a smidge over a normal wait. We didn't think anything of it but our waiter comp'd our food and apologized for the longer than normal wait. They had messed up our pizza and had to make another one. I adore them and will definitely be coming back. We gave him a great tip for being so thoughtful and kind. Perfect place to end the day after snowboarding/skiing! Prime location in the center of Lionshead Village makes this place a MUST if you are staying at a nearby resort! We were tuckered out from a full day of riding down the mountain but still managed to muster just enough energy to make it downstairs to BMP. Big Moose Pizza -- 5/5, Toppings: pepperoni, sausage, Canadian bacon, black olives, mushrooms, onions, green bell peppers + mozzarella. Delicious and would definitely get it again. Your signature Supreme pizza with all the fixin's Pepperoni Pizza -- 5/5, super surprised but VERY impressed with their basic pepperoni pizza. Classic pepperoni and cheese. I actually preferred this over the BMP because the cheese was a star and not overpowered by any other toppings. Pep + cheese, you cannot go wrong. Service was excellent, decor was fun and inventive. Great location within Lionshead Village and walking-distance from many hotels and rentals. 100% worth rattling your aching bones and muscles to dine in. read more

The worst customer service I've ever experienced. The guy behind the bar taking our order to go was extremely condescending. He had a smart ass comment for every response and he wasn't trying to be funny. He was just a huge A--Hole. After reading some other reviews, this is an ongoing problem. If management condones this Customer No Service, there are easily 50 other restaurants to choose from around Vail. We ended up going elsewhere and had a great meal with even better service. We were really craving a pizza so this was a perfect choice considering this was the only food item they were serving. We needed some veggies in our life to feel healthier so we ordered the veggie pizza and added pepperoni. We were fairly pleased with the quality of the pie, but the service was pretty mediocre. Also, the bathrooms were disgusting so that was not a selling point at all. Our server was nice, but didn't do great with our orders as we had to ask for ranch 3 times after our pizza was delivered to the table. Simple request, but mood changing when your wife is a stickler for ranch. read more

On our way in to pick up our parking pass we stopped by Blue Moose Pizza for lunch. It's a pretty casual spot and since it's a Ski town, you're pretty much good to look like you just came off the slopes...nothing fancy. The staff was efficient and there was no wait for a seat. The menu had a good selection of sandwiches, kid friendly options and pasta if you weren't in the mood for pizza. I split an 18inch buffalo chicken pizza with a friend which was more than enough. It cost around $18 and I was stuffed. The pizza came out relatively quick. It had a buffalo sauce instead of marinara was all around A-Okay. The flavor wasn't special and the thin-crust wasn't particularly tasty. All around not bad price-wise for the area. I would go here for convenience sake rather than a good-meal. read more

Amazing. Get your takeout pizza here. I was told 15 minutes on the phone and they texted me in 10. Order ready! Two large pies and a Caesar salad. Salad was fresh, pizza tasted delicious, toppings spot on, and crust nice and soft. Excellent experience - it would be foolish to go elsewhere. read more

We were really looking forward to some pizza. Our party of 3 all wanted a different kind, so we were excited to see that you could order by the slice. After we sat down and ordered drinks, we were told the oven they use for the individual slices was broken. We asked if we could split a pizza 3 ways and were told no only they could only be split in half. So we paid for drinks (no they did not comp them) and left. Waitress recommend we go to another pizza place at Vail Village. We headed over there only to find it closed. Very disappointing lunch experience! read more

I've visited Blue Moose 3 times, the only reason I keep returning is because the pizza is actually pretty good (I highly recommend the Vintage Pizza). My first visit was the best, right before the beginning of the season, I know now that he is the manager. He was friendly, personable, fast and attentive! A very nice guy and my roommate and I had a great visit. Also the host guy in the sling kicks ass! But I have to say, the rest of the staff.. and I'm in the industry.. needs to either start caring or find another occupation. The bartender guy in the beanie was nice enough, but clearly cared more about trying to toss empty cans/bottles into the trash can behind his back the entire time. During this visit, I brought my parents who were in town for pizza on a Saturday night. We're not uppity people by any means but I was embarrassed I brought them here. We heard another table complaining to the nice manager and the beanie guy was making fun of the guests the entire time.. very unprofessional and uncomfortable. The girl with the dreadlocks just simply needs to get a different job. She was very rude/cold and it was clear she didn't want to be there (this is based off of two separate visits). Also, it amazes me how the staff works there all day (by the time I get there) and still doesn't know what IPAs you have on draught EVERY TIME. I'll recommend your pizza til no end, and the manager dude and sling guy rock.. but you guys have to stop smoking weed during your shift and actually care about the job that gives you income. Every one wants to feel welcome and comfortable when they dine out or visit a bar. I hope when I return you guys have worked it out because it can be a pretty cool spot with good attitudes and care! read more

Love that they have so many options for by-the-slice. So many pizza places just have cheese or pepperoni or sausage by the slice. Boooooring! Our server was wonderful- sweet, attentive, and helpful. She recommended the Mediterranean Salad pizza and the new Jalapeño Popper pizza. They were both great, esp. the jalapeño one. I will be making a beeline for Blue Moose next time we're in Lionshead to get more of that creamy, spicy, cheesy goodness!! read more

My family and I have been coming the the Blue Moose for years. It's perfectly adequate. Being from Chicago, I am a bit of a pizza snob, and most pizza does not even remotely measure up. Blue Moose pizza certainly isn't anything to write home about. But it's just fine, comes out quickly and hot, and the toppings are plentiful. We enjoyed the Mozzarella sticks and I had a nice beet salad recently. It is one of the few casual eateries in Lionshead. Well, make that one of the few eateries in Lionshead, period. But it is not bad, and we will certainly return. read more

Came here on a Sunday afternoon with my family of 8, 6 adults, a 6 year old and a 1 year old. We were told as soon as we walked in that there would be no fryer available for the night, which we all decided was fine. Upon ordering the pizza we were then told that they were also out of tomatoes, which seems odd for an Italian pizzeria but given the circumstances with covid we understood and adjusted our order. The children's menu was already limited because of the fryer situation, so the 2 choices were 6$ Kraft Mac and cheese or a slice of pizza. Given this is a pizza place and my niece had already eaten pasta for lunch we asked for a pizza slice. Our waiter who was super cool said that this wasn't possible because they stop doing slices after 5 o'clock. We asked if he could see if they could make an exception given the circumstances and the lack of options for the children's menu. I'd also like to point out that nowhere on the kids menu does it say they stop doing slices by that time. It seems odd that a pizza place wouldn't have a pizza option for a child during dinner time. I'm not sure if this was the manager there or the hostess, because she did greet us when we walked in, but she came over with a major attitude. She said no we can't even do pizza slices at all (at a pizza place). Then we said ok would it be fine if we got some chicken tenders over at this other place for her and brought it in? To which she replied with an attitude, no absolutely not we can't allow outside food due to covid. We then mentioned that nowhere on the kids menu does it say you can't do a slice after 5 o'clock, to which she replied nastily, "oh we'll have our marketing team get right on that" YIKES. We decided to leave and tip our waiter for his troubles knowing it was not his fault and that he had just lost a tip on a big check. We then had a completely opposite experience at a Chinese restaurant near by where it was run literally by one single man serving and making food for all 8 of us. He then took the time to make us complimentary little orange desserts after running around taking care of us. It brought a huge smile to us all and showed us what great customer service was all about! It was like we were meant to go there and give the right people the right business. I do believe that this establishment has rave reviews for a reason, I just wish we got the quality service we received at every other restaurant at our week stay in Vail. Overall would not recommend blue moose pizza as a pleasant dining experience. read more

Really, really appreciated the fact that the wait for a party of 5 (very kid friendly) was only 10 minutes and they even text me when our table was ready. The restaurant was pretty packed and we were a little concerned being that covid has been spreading like wildfire in CO but there wasn't a lot of choices to choose from. A lot of restaurants were closed. Anywho... the pizza was great. Amazing dough and great tasting. The whole family loved it. The Mac n cheese was just Kraft but the kids didn't care.
