We were here yesterday afternoon for an early dinner of Fish and Chips.The french fries and cole slaw were fresh and delicious. The serving of fish was huge....plenty to take home. I had lemonade to drink, and it was an exceptional experience thanks to our waitress Liz. She was very attentive, energetic, and has a wonderful smile. Ate here as part of my taste of Kansas tour that included eating dirt to understand the true taste of Kansas. While I don't think this fully matched up with the earthy tones of my first taste test, I would gladly recommend this over eating dirt. Great appetizers, and the wait staff was courteous and prompt. The wine selection was superb, and they packaged my bottle up in a to go box whenever I was done eating. I would highly recommend the chicken tender basket and potato skins, alongside some vintage Merlot. read more

We love to eat here but lately every time we go it gets louder and less enjoyable. Tonight when our food came out the fries were cold and we had already waited longer than normal and didn't want to wait on them to make more. The waitress sent the manager over and he offered to make more but when we said we didn't want to wait he didn't even offer take them off of our bill. Terrible customer service. The Blue Moose used to be my favorite place in Topeka. I've been here a couple times with friends and had a great time. My wife recently joined me on a work trip to Topeka, and I was so excited to take her to the Blue Moose. I was quickly disappointed. It was wine Tuesday, so of course we ordered a bottle of wine. It took over 45 minutes to receive the bottle and the waitress had no idea how to open it. Meanwhile my cocktail was empty this entire time with no effort shown to refill it. We felt completely neglected by our waitress and when we complained to a manager, he stated that she's only been on the job two days and will have to be retrained. I believe her name was Lily. I've had bad service before, but I've never seen such blatant neglect and was probably the most upset I've ever been with a server. I told her she was a horrible waitress and should probably find a new job. I told the manager to fire her. Again, he stated that he will make sure she is retrained. How about you don't put people on the floor until they've been fully trained in the first place? On our second complaint to the manager, he offered to comp my meal. I explained to him that I wanted to pay full price, because I will never come back to the Blue Moose again. Their service has completely gone downhill and they have disappointed me so bad, that they don't deserve another chance. It's too bad I can't give them zero stars. read more

I went with my significant other to here recently for a date night. It wasn't super busy. We were seated quickly and greeted by our waiter right away. The food was just too good to talk about. I ordered a standard chicken Cesar salad which was the best I've ever had. And we ordered the shrimp wontons. Ommgggg. They were delicious! We couldn't get over it. And lastly had a cheesecake. It was a great experience. The food came out quick. Waiter checked on us several times. The only reason I didn't do 5 stars is the price. Could be a tad more affordable. Blue Moose has classy food but is a comfortable atmosphere, and we enjoy the variety of food options on the menu. Some menu items are mahi tacos, steak, flatbreads, crab cakes, shrimp and chicken curry, salmon, hummus, sandwiches, and burgers. On Sundays there is a Brunch with special pricing for Mimosas and Bloody Marys, Tuesday nights are special prices for bottles of wines, and Thursdays are busy since they have beer specials! The bar has a great selection of drinks, fantastic bartenders (and you can also order drinks at the tables in the restaurant), and there are Happy Hour specials for food and drinks from 4-6pm Mondays-Fridays. We started visiting for the food, but we also now keep returning to see our friends...the staff is very welcoming and Blue Moose has become our "comfort zone"! read more

We had a great experience here. My wife ordered the burger, which was cooked the way she ordered it, with some amazing, crispy fries. I had the braised pork, I didn't even need a knife, it just fell apart with my fork, and went great together with the mashed potatoes and asparagus. They have an awesome selection of drinks at the bar and beers on draft, too include a beer from blind tiger. The fried pickles were also great, I read a previous review that the breading was too thick, but maybe they changed the recipe cause it was not the case tonight. We also saved room for desert and had the cheese cake of the day. It had a light brown top, was not dry in the middle, not too sweet and just sinfully tasty. If I had two stomachs I would have orders more food. All in all, the service was great and I'm glad we found this place. We will definitely eat here again. read more

Participated in a luncheon of 20, ordered the short ribs, The picture was apetizing. What was served was not. a bit of beef sitting atop what appeared to be potato soup with some weak unfavored brown water around the outside of slimy potatoes (entry was cold). There were a few wimpy onion rings atop the meat, but nothing like the picture. Meat tasted ok, the rest was unpalletable, so I left it. Waiter was excellant. We went here for my birthday. There were 3 of us & they seemed irritated that we asked to be moved to a quieter spot as they sat us right next to A very large loud crowd & we wanted to be able to visit. We ordered a bottle of wine that was marked up at least 100%, but since it was my birthday we splurged. We were not brought an ice bucket to keep it chilled as we ate our meal. The food was delicious, but took forever & service was poor. So all in all it wasn't a very good birthday experience. read more

After being seated it becomes an ordeal to find any staff. It was 30 minutes before orders were taken. The food is never consistent and does not even warrant the price. Steaks are always under cooked and quite possibly the most gristly cuts possible. The wine selection is fine however the wine is not stored correctly and results it horribly damaged product. You will be hard pressed to find service, and food that is cooked well enough that it won't make you sick. Locally this restaurant is known as the part of "The Iron Mile", which is a series of places that will increase your chances of food borne illness. Had the Charred chicken with Andouille sausage and it need work. Dry and the Andouille was the mildest I have ever tasted. $48 bucks for 2 beers and 2 mediocre entrees is just too much. Comparatively to what the rest of Topeka offers, Blue Moose possesses a considerably more diverse and nuanced menu. Besides their noteworthy pork, chicken, beef, and fish dishes they are one of the few establishments in town that offer legitimate vegetarian options and you'll basically want to betroth yourself to their various twists on macaroni and cheese. Their kitchen stays open later than most in Topeka and they do a fine job of providing an alternative to the generic franchise options that cover Wanamaker. Everyone in our party of four had an excellent meal. If it was food service, it didn't taste like it. I had carne asada tacos with rice and black beans that was fresh and delicious, others at our table had the fish and chips, the petite filet, and the kale salad with chicken. For dessert we shared the creme brûlée and the flourless chocolate cake and both were fresh and fabulous!!
