It's not the place to go for a business lunch because the noise level is too high for that kind of conversation, but for other occasions the Blue Moose is fine. Reasonable prices, friendly but not overly so wait staff, good service, fun atmosphere, and most importantly TASTY FOOD, make it a 4 star restaurant in my book. They also have a "Guest Rewards" club that gives you discounts and Tuesdays they have $10 per bottle wine. The thigh and leg were cooked fine but the breast was bone dry. The asparagus was undercooked and a bit too smoky to even taste the asparagus. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the Blue Moose due to the fact that I had a work acquaintance who is convinced he is the second coming of Riff Raff who loves this place. He frequents there just to bother his ex who works there who reeks of patchouli. I never went there terrified that I would run into this crowd. Well, there it was, Thanksgiving. I have no family in town. The liquor stores were all closed. I do not cook. Most stores and restaurants were closed. What to do? I decided it would be a good night to give the Blue Moose a shot! There was a limited menu that night. Mostly appetizers and pizzas. We ordered a pizza and the hummus appetizer. They were both really good! A little expensive, but not outrageous. I have to deduct stars for the drinks though. I ordered two double shots of well rum. First off, I HATE well rum, but when I found out that each well shot would be $4.50 I did not feel like splurging the extra buck fifty for Bacardi! Not only were the shots WAY over priced and not great, the bar tender shook them up with ice flakes, which all fell into my shot glass. THAT was a rather unpleasant surprise! Food was pretty good but seriously some of the worst service I have ever received. We waited at least 45 minutes for our food and when it came to the table it had obviously been under the heat lamps for awhile, both my mom and brother's orders were wrong, server was inattentive (never asked if we wanted another drink we would have to flag him down to ask for another). This place was recommended by a friend. It is a nice place but their brunch is extremely expensive for what was on it. The food was substandard at best, and they kept running out of everything. The eggs were cold, the bacon sat in its own grease in the pan once they finally put more out, the potatoes were cold, the breakfast pizza was burnt. They allegedly had french toast but no way to order it, they were supposed to have made to order omlets but no way to order them either ! Their brunch foods were a bunch of finger foods that were cold and not good ! We have had acid reflux all day and this is the only thing we ate ! $50 for breakfast for two people !! We could have eaten at golden corral for half that much and had much better food ! Then when we left, the manager held the door for us but never said a word !!! Not thanks for coming... Friday night they were SUPER busy and we ordered 3-4 different drinks before finding one they actually had liquor for. The waitress had to come back to our table multiple times. We weren't upset about it, it was actually kind of funny.. They were so apologetic (waitress AND bartender) that it wasn't a big deal anyways. Always a good place! I don't know if it's the cook(s), or if I just have hit it on the same night with the same 'short order cook', but the food was horrendous the last few times I've been there. Ok it is a bit weird naming a restaurant after a hypoxic moose, however the service is much better than that poor moose received in the ER. I have never had inattentive or slow service in the handful of times I have dined there in 2016. Some of the staff need to lighten up, but overall they have been very interested in customer satisfaction. I have even brought my extended family here when they visited this summer. My reservation for only 6 was accepted no problem. Now for the food, well I have to say I can tell when different cooks are on duty. The Alfredo sauce has been good one time and watery the next. The chicken nachos are to die for for, but they don't seem to have any consistency to how much toppings to put on. I feel its clean and welcoming even when the place is packed. I highly recommend The Hypoxic Moose to meet friends, take family, or dine on your lunch hour. read more

Loud and noisy! Ordered drinks and before the waiter came back to take our food order we had already decided to leave and find somewhere else to have our date night. The building and decor itself is wonderful and has the potential to be a really great dining place but the noise level is just ridiculous! Feels like they tried to combine a nice, classy restaurant with a sports bar and the sports bar took over. There are TVs everywhere which takes away from the classiness of the restaurant and makes it so loud that you have to almost yell across the table to hear each other. Just left Blue Moose, and what a terrible experience! We decided to sit on the patio for a drink and appetizers, and as soon as our food arrived we were inundated with flies, understandable, so we moved inside to the bar area. We asked a waitress who our waitress inside was, and she pointed out who she would be. That one walked right by us, so we politely got her attention, and she told us she would get our waitress outside. (The chicken wings were not good, the chicken quesidilla was excellent.) We still could not get any service so decided to move up to the bar. Bad move. Mr. Cocky bartender was too busy to listen to our explanation as to why we had moved to the bar, so he asked the manager to come talk with us. Nice move! The manager told us that he would have the wings removed from the tab, but that was not done. We had to have the drink prices corrected TWICE, (overcharged) and then had to request again, that the charge for the wings be removed. Total fiasco........this did not deserve a tip, so we decided not to leave one. (FYI: I have NEVER done that in my life!) AND THEN..........wait for it.....................the bartender had the audacity to follow us outside, as we stopped to listen to the band for a minute, and shot us nasty looks when he realized we had'nt tipped, and then went back inside after shooting us one last one as he went in the door! REALLY? Needless to say, we will never return! I am not a complainer, but this needed to be addressed. Sorry. read more

The Blue Moose Grill is one of our favorite restaurants when we visit Topeka. The menu is diverse and the prices are very good. Four of us and a toddler sampled a number of items. While not a place full of children, the waitperson was quick to supply a kids menu and made sure his food came out first( always a plus for us and other diners). The wine menu lists the reds from light to dark and also offers 6oz or 9oz pours as well as the bottle option. I liked this as I am a 1 1/2 glass kind of gal. The beer selection was satisfactory to the others at the table. Our artichoke dip was good, nothing special but respectable, served with colorful chips and warm pita, the cauliflower"wings" were served as 4 big flowerets, breaded and fried golden topped with crumbled blue cheese and served with 2 sauces, the standard hot wing sauce and a caramel BBQ sauce. We liked this one a lot. 3 of us had sandwiches. The turkey club is huge! and could be shared. The others enjoyed their turkey pesto panini and grilled short rib sandwiches as well. Me, because I read other Yelp reviews ordered around the whipped cauliflower and was pleased to see a section of smaller options. I had a small order of Chicken Putanesca served over angel hair pasta. It was delicious. With a fresh and lively red sauce dosed with capers and kalamata olives. The portion was actually quite perfect with appetizers. The whipped cauliflower was, unfortunately, the least enjoyable. While they state it is Paleo friendly it had so much cream in it you could taste the dairy over the cauliflower. I don't get it. It was also way under seasoned. Bland. Can not recommend. The meal was so satisfying that dessert was not possible but the Lemoncello Cake sounded so good we took a piece home. I mean who wouldn't love cake soaked in Lemoncello with whipped marscapone cream and fresh strawberries. This was, in reality a dry barely lemon flavored cake with an ok cream that would have sufficed if the cake had any flavor and 4 thin slices of a small overripe strawberry. Sadly disappointing. If I'd skipped the dessert and the cauliflower I'd have given higher rating. read more

Im a little confused about the lay out, im not sure if its supposed to be a fancy place to eat or a sports bar, my boyfriend and I went out to eat dinner and I expected a nice romantic dinner, however a game was on and the table beside us walk talking loud, and cheering, and occasionally not loudly but we could hear it, cussing about their team, the place was not super crowded, we had our drinks and had ordered our food the table behind us continued to be a little loud so we asked if we could move to a quieter side, our waitress informed us "all my tables are full I have nowhere to move you too" I guess they only have so many tables so instead of moving us to a diff area, asking a manager to move us, or letting us just tip her and then have a diff waitress we spent our meal listening to cheering and loud talking the whole time, we asked her if there was anywere else to sit at all because the other side looked empty, and she told us she could not move us. After that we did not see her much, our drinks got down to empty and we had to flag her down for a box and our ticket. read more

The food did come to the table hot, which is a plus (this was a Wednesday night). The service was acceptable for a loud, busy atmosphere. What was most disturbing was that the price on the tab did not reflect the price on the menu, for our drinks. this was pointed out to the waiter, and he said "oh, I did not realize this table did not have the new insert". After several minutes, the manager came by, and without apology or explanation, said "I've adjusted your ticket by seventy five cents" and then sort of chuckled, as if I was a weirdo to point out a basic flaw in their operation. On my way out, I looked at six or seven other table drink menus, and they were all incorrect according to what they were charging. I mentioned this to the hostess, a squat, older woman with a pinched face and a boy's haircut, and she flippantly said "Well, it's only a quarter!" But that was not the point...at all. It's only false advertising...it's only theft, it's only immoral, unethical, and just plain wrong. It's quite sad, as the food was good and the service as well, up until their error was pointed out. An apology would've been nice, but the sarcastic sass was completely over the top and uncalled for. I wouldn't recommend this establishment unless you're looking to be overcharged and treated rudely for pointing it out. read more
